This place is an unofficial historic location for the community that grew up around Bevo Mill neighborhood, most of whom have moved away and as a result the neighborhood isn't as warm as memory still serves. I think that's testimony to the strength and appeal of the places that stayed in business. Pita is pretty much what I get. It's not a sandwich, it's a kind of pastry breakfast food with savory filling. The food is kind of heavy, so that just means you need coffee - (turkish style) balkan coffee. The service is great, but it's extremely casual and not especially organized. I was so happy to see that they were still around. I hope I get the chance to visit again. read more

No thrills just some daxm good food. They seasoned the meat so well. So savory! They didn't skimp out on the toppings or sauce. Their tzatziki chefs kiss! The lady was attentive by checking on my food since there was a big order ahead of me and made me feel like a priority. It's a bakery too! I'll make sure to get some bread next time I go and I will be back. read more

As always, good authentic food. Have been going here for several years. We got the goulash cabbage rolls and Gyro deluxe. Could've got away with just a Gyro deluxe and split it but we wanted to take leftovers home. So now we have our evening meal. Great food. read more

We stopped in for lunch on a cold and rainy December afternoon. We knew from Yelp that the Gyro Deluxe was a must so asked to split one of those, but also asked for our server's recommendation. She suggested the Goulash, so we split that too. When our food arrived, they had kindly split both orders into separate (still huge!) portions for each of us without us asking. The gyro was absolutely delicious--amazing soft bread, crispy griddled meat, and fresh feta and tzatziki! The goulash was a hearty soup with tender beef and a dollop of perfect mashed potatoes in the middle. We were completely stuffed and paid roughly $23 total for the meal plus drinks. We also bought some of the pita to bring home from the cute attached storefront. What a great experience--we can't recommend it highly enough and definitely encourage anyone to check it out! read more

Zlatno Zito - One Gyro Deluxe, kindly cut in half for us because we told them we were sharing! - New American Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

I came here with a friend, and let me tell you, this review is going to be redundant. This place is so great, and I can't wait until I'm back. Without further ado: Food/Cost ratio: 5. 5. 5. I got a döner kebab, and it was gigantic, not to mention delicious. It literally covered half of my large dinner plate. It's been a minute since I've been here, so I can't recall exact details, but it was large. And delicious. Atmosphere: 4.5. It's not cute, by any means. But my question with atmosphere is, "Does the way this place present itself make me want to come more or less?" And in the case of Zlatno Zitno, I would definitely say, "more!" It's an unassuming, slightly gritty Eastern European grocery store. The ladies running the place are friendly, and there's an authenticity to it that I really enjoy. Service: 4. The ladies who run the place are friendly, and your food is made to order. Nothing to complain about here! All that being said, if you're really hungry, love tastes outside of your ordinary, and want to try a local gem, Zlatno Zitno is the place for you! read more

Amazing hole in the wall Bosnian joint. I had a friend visiting from out of town, and when she heard STL had the largest Bosnian population outside of Bosnia, she wanted to try the food. Unsure of where to take her I turned to yelp and found this place. Zlatno Zito is a truly unique and authentic experience, with no glam or thrills. Expect everyone in there to be speaking Bosnian, which honestly was pretty cool! With that said... the food was just out of this world. My party decided to split three items off the menu, and wow the servings were huge, with lots of leftovers to take home with us. The lady running the shop was also very helpful and assisted us with choosing items, and did not make us feel bad for being "outsiders". If you are looking for a good, authentic, no thrills, Bosnian food experience in STL, this is it! PS. Don't forget the Jupi! read more

This place is interesting. In the fact that they are perhaps the most unfriendly eastern Europeans I've ever met. You would think in a business you would at least say hello goodbye and thank you, not here The place smells like urine and the food is hardly remarkable! PITY! Frankly the gyros at the gyro place on Gravois across from Schnuck's near Hampton is soooomuch better! Btw, the online menu prices are in accurate can count on most of the things being marked up at least 40% since listed on the net, that really makes this place no big deal. read more

Oh man.....the little yellow custard cakes are sooooo good!! Grilled chicken sandwich was great. Service was fast and so very polite.

Two words: GYRO DELUXE. You won't be disappointed! So much meat on one massive sandwich. Loved the feta cheese and sauce as well. Check out the market too while you wait for special chocolates, bread, etc. read more

A hole in the wall gem. I'd like to thank all the gyro businesses who are closed on Sunday, otherwise I probably wouldn't have tried this place. I asked for a Donor Kebab (looks like other images/reviewers referred it as 'gyro deluxe?') with feta, and it's HUGE. WOW. They're not skimpy. The bread is fresh, the tatziki tasted homemade, and the gyro meat was incredibly tasty. While I was waiting for my food to be made, it looked like the bakery was nice and clean. The lady who took my order was very kind, too. They also take cards for those who are wondering. read more

The Sarma is awesome and comes with a half a loaf of fresh baked bread to soak up all the goodness

So yummmy. Bread is fresh and flavor is great. The only thing is i think she forgot my sauce on my gyro, however, still had some great flavors. I got dessert of tiramisu and that was also light and delicious. I did take out since we were in a rush that day. Everyone loved their food. I wish I lived closer because I would go more often. I would suggest the Gyro and the Roast Beef sandwich was awesome. Great flavors. The restaurant part is small so if you have a big group, you may not get a seat. It is nice they offer to go. read more

So my bf always laugh at me cause it's a Bosnian place and I always get the beef patty (hamburger) but it's so good and I can imagine how the other food taste. THE BEST doner in the city hands down. Everything is so fresh! I've ordered the Greek side salad and it's delicious! Very fast and courteous service. read more

My husband and I ordered the gyro supreme and the cevapi sandwich. We both liked the gyro supreme more than the cevapi sandwich but would order both again. The bread the sandwiches are served on is amazing. The portions are huge, we were surprised when opened the box. One sandwich is enough for two meals. The staff was very kind and answered our questions. We will be visiting again. read more

Very delicious cevapi (better than what I had while visiting Bosnia even!) and gyro! The bread was absolutely delicious. Serving sizes are very generous, expect leftovers or split with someone. Atmosphere is very laid back and definitely seems like the crowd may be locals part of the Bosnian community and likely know the owners. I loved the place! read more

I love this place. , the wife hates it . The atmosphere is a small bakery , city store and you walk through to the tiny seating area . Big sandwiches and the owner/ Chef is really nice . I like the breads , the large portions and the prices are really reasonable . Wife didn't like the atmosphere , a Little too cramped for her . The water was warm , and she felt like she was in a foreign , 3rd world place . I didn't mind personally . You can't expect linen tablecloths and fancy settings at a Bosnian bakery / corner store . Limited menu , but everything was tasty . The stuffed breads were a bit underwhelming . The doner was the hit . read more

OMG. You just have to come here. Excellent food. Great people that work here. Friendly. You are missing out if you don't come here.

OMG! This place has the best cevapi that I have ever had. The bread & sausages were cooked to perfection. It's a tiny hole in the wall. The prices are not bad (less than $10). The portions were huge & could easily be eaten in 2 meals. I had a meat burek for lunch, which was foodgasmic. I will definitely come back here to try other things & to try the potato burek. The service was awesome, & the food came out in a timely manner. There were assorted Bosnian drinks to chose from. read more

What a find!! Stopped here while driving through town on a cross country road trip. There is no Bosnian food where we live, so we seek it out when traveling. Thought to try this place based on Yelp reviews, so very glad we did! Unbeknownst to us when we arrived it was near closing time.....but without hesitation the kind owner gladly helped us, made small talk with us while waiting for the food to cook and then, to our surprise, gave us some free food as well. All with a smile. The Cevapi did not disappoint, generous portion and super tasty. The spinach and cheese pita was huge and was also quite moist and delicious. We also picked up some fresh Bosnian bread and had that for breakfast the next morning, tasted as it should, just like only a Mother could make. You can tell this food is authentic and made with love. Next time we are in town we will be sure to seek out this gem! Highly recommend! What are you waiting for? Go try it for yourself! read more

Gyro purists don't go here. If you want to try what I think is a Bosnian take on gyro, I urge you to visit. The place has been here for over a decade with one remodel I can remember as a kid. The staff are friendly and the cook is a charming Bosnian woman that you can watch cook up your order or you can order takeout by phone. My brother and I have been loving this place for the deluxe gyro. It is the size of Alex Baldwin's face and sits between two airy, flaky homemade slices of Bosnian bread. I swear the thing is three inches high and more than a foot in diameter. I plan to try the actual Bosnian cuisine here one day but that gyro is more than enough for me. It is probably the best gyro in town. The hours are also great here. read more

My fiancé is Bosnian, so I would say we know the cuisine well. This is our go to spot! We always get a spinach and cheese pita (call early, bc they run out fast!) I have the sarma (beef stuffed cabbage rolls;) all the flavors are amazing, the sauce is great and the serving large. He always gets the ćevapi; meats are as they should be and the lepina (bread) is dense yet fluffy. All of the cakes are perfect for me; not too sweet. Highly recommended! read more

For the price based on the huge portions and the high quality of food, Zlatno Zito's is a must for anyone who wants to try or already enjoys Bosnian food. The gyro doner is outstanding with its pillowy soft bread as big as your whole head, and the crispy, hot fries taste best dipped in mayonnaise. The chicken salad is also excellent and will satisfy you. The ladies behind and in front of the counter are incredibly welcoming and keep us coming back. read more

The bread, oh my god the bread. SO GOOD! And so cheap! The döner was amazing. Definitely eat here.

Super nice, quick service. The gyro was on some sort of Bosnian bread and not a gyro. Apparently Bosnian bread is really good! Also, it didn't hurt that the sandwich was almost as big as my lap. read more

I love this hole in the wall. They are my go to place when I'm dithering. The portions are huge. You will always struggle to finish and have leftovers for lunch. The meat is fresh and tasty. They have a grill in the back and use it for the meat and bread. Never use a microwave. You have many options here. From a traditional donër, to a gyro, cevapi, sampler platter. They will have something here you like. The staff are also extremely friendly, which isn't a guarantee in a lot of foreign places. Along with the food they have a market inside as well with different types of drinks, candy and bread for sale. I forgot to mention the price of most things is very low. The whole bad thing is the location but once you're inside you forget about that. read more

This is the best gyro in St Louis by far. Fresh bread, plenty of meat, and great tatzki sauce.
