I like to see it busy on a Saturday, so interesting to see what others have in their carts and chat about some of the things they are making! Everyone is so friendly, from other shoppers to the staff who checks in to see if you need anything. I was looking for Tuna, but when I saw the selection, I couldn't remember which type I needed so that just means I will have to go back! I bought a large jar of capers because I can never have enough of them and I happened upon a frozen Seafood Mix Mediterranean PanaPesca. This looks really good and I think it is for a pasta dish, I will try it and see. I wish I had known when we were there that we were going to have winter weather this weekend! I would have purchased a lot more and if you need to know this, they have fresh yeast cakes. I would have purchased it to make St. Louis school cafeteria rolls. read more

I absolutely love this store! One of the few remaining original Italian grocery store/market on The Hill. So much fun to go early on a Saturday , stop at one of the coffee shops on the hill for your espresso and/or cannoli, then on to DiGregerio's. The ambiance is a bit like walking into old Italy. They have a huge meat/cheese counter, plus all of the ravioli's/pasta/cheeses in the refrigerated section. The coffee station has espresso beans, plus flavored beans. You can buy boxed pasta, or pasta flour to make your own . They now have gluten free pre make boxed pasta, and gluten free pasta flour. The service is great- lots of people to ask for help, and they are glad to help. I had a question about pasta flour, and one of the pasta makers in the kitchen came out to talk to me about how to make traditional Italian pasta. read more

We always love shopping at DiGregorio's. The Olive salad, deli meats and speidini are a few favorites! Last week I picked up some of their frozen Italian meatballs. I made some sauce and added the meatballs. They completely fell apart! They were very soggy and tasted like the filling in toasted ravioli. I love this market. From the quaint corner store feel to the fabulous service and amazing selection on a variety of foods. I especially love their chicken and pork cutlets. I don't love breading meat and these are perfectly thin, seasoned, and covered in Italian bread crumbs perfect for chicken Parmesan or just a great chicken cutlet. I love the variety of different pastas, their abundance of frozen items to take and make at home. They have amazing grated parm and pizza cheese is perfect for a pizza night. This place is pure magic! It's chock full of amazing, delicious-looking food and ingredients. I was so happy when I saw the giant display of Lorann's Baking flavoring oils in the front. They're so good for making macarons and flavored buttercream. The frozen section is the real star of this place. Pasta of every kind imaginable, including gluten free!! Giant tiramisu, cannoli, stracciatella! I had ridden there on my bike, so I didn't get to buy any of the frozen stuff, but I'll definitely be back. My friend is on the staff there and she's an absolute gem of a human. She loves working there, and I could tell the other employees enjoyed what they did. The whole place had a cheerful, happy energy. Highly recommend stopping in to browse and ooh and aah over the ridiculous selection, the pasta-making gadgets, and the deli full of giant cuts of meat. The whole place was such a fun experience. It would be a fun date to shop here and then bring home the ingredients to have a gourmet dinner with very little effort. This is a great little market. All of the employees were so nice and helpful. They have things I have not found at other stores. The selection was enormous. They have tons of olives and giardeniera as well as capers and many others. The pasta selection was awesome. I absolutely hate big noodles and I found these tiny noodles that are great. The sauce selection was huge but pretty standard to what you'd find elsewhere. They had great looking frozen pasta and I tried a gelato which was so good. The deli has fresh olives, cheese and a great selection of meat. My favorite was the salami prosciutto. Two great meats together. Lastly their olive oil selection is nothing to sneeze at. It's a nice little Italian market. It's clean, and everyone there is friendly. I was happy to find gf ravioli which is kinda pricey but delicious. The spumoni was decent as well. Finally, I got tomato sauce which if I have to be honest, is waaaaaaaaaaaayyyy too sweet in my book; it tastes exactly like canned ragu. If you're into that, you do you, but my tastebuds have been trained by 1st and 2nd generation Italians who would beat me up for feeding this sauce to them. I really enjoy checking out the various Italian Markets on The Hill. It's such a treat for me. This market is spacious, well stocked and boast a nice variety of items. The staff is beyond helpful and friendly!!! I am a SUCKER for GOOD BREAD and often times when I stop at Italian markets I have to check-out the bread. I absolutely love the seasoned and crusted bread they sell in the bags. I think it's called crostini. Theirs is the BEST I've tried thus far. I hate to admit it but I ate a whole bag in a day. Since I didn't know how well I'd like it, I opted for the small bag.......BIG MISTAKE. Off the subject real fast. I also purchased a loaf of Italian Bread, can I tell you how soft and delicious this loaf of bread was and it kept for days. OK, back to my story. The crostini bread was EVERYTHING and more. The seasoning was spectacular and one ingredient in the seasoning that stood out to me was sugar. When I tell you that, that slight hint of sweetness knocked that bread into another hemisphere, boooyyyyyy you better believe it!!!! I order their signature sandwich, very tasty and fulfilling. The meats consisted of Capicola, Mortadella, Salami and something else, with cheese and an Aioli. I hate to say it but I could only best describe it as an upscale bologna sandwich. I also ordered meats and cheeses from the deli counter as well. I was super impressed. Now the majority of their meats are Boar's Head, so I opted for the meats and cheese that weren't of the Boar's Head brand. i wasn't disappointed in the least bit, I was very impressed by the quality and price. They sell an extensive array of house made products and staff are in the back producing and packaging items to place in the freezer. They sell a nice selection of pizzas, pasta, sauces, liquors and more. The store is nicely maintained, neat and tidy. The parking is extremely hit-n-miss. You may have to walk. We lucked-up and were able to park right on the side. It doesn't really matter, anyway because I ended up walking around the neighborhood to view other suppliers. read more

We stopped by on a Saturday morning to grab some items for a light lunch. Despite the shop being quite busy, the staff was friendly and helpful. We were also pleased to see almost everyone in the store fully masked. We sampled the meats, cheeses, and wines available, and the woman hosting the table was lovely and informative. We purchased mortadella and prosciutto de parma from the deli counter, some insanely delicious olives, and a few cheeses. We also bought a $10 bottle of wine after sampling it and loving it! I grew up in a town with a large Italian population about two hours away from St. Louis. My paternal grandmother immigrated from southern Italy as a kid and my maternal grandparents were both Sicilian. Growing up I remember my uncle Steve always going to the Hill in St. Louis and going to the different Italian stores. DiGregorio's was always one of the main stops he would make. Hearing about the store built it up to legendary proportions in my mind. When I moved to St. Louis I immediately started going to DiGregorio's myself and I haven't been disappointed. It has a nice selection of Italian staples as well as a great deli/meat counter. The workers are friend, it has a nice neighborhood feel, and the prices are reasonable. It helps that every time I go there I think of my grandparents, parents, and aunts and uncles who would always talk about the store. I make it a point to take my parents whenever they are in town. I typically go to the store for a couple reasons. There are a nice selection of staple items like dried pastas, frozen pastas, and sauces. The frozen pastas in particular are treat and I'm huge fan of the different ravioli they have. In general you can never go wrong stocking up here before cooking a meal. In addition my wife and I like to make our own pasta and pizza. The best flour for that is semolina and 00 flour. You can buy both in larger (5lb) quantities and it is much cheaper than getting it anywhere else. The 00 flour in particular is an item that is hard to find. The last time I was in the woman behind the counter and I got talking about using the the gas pizza oven I use (Ooni Koda 16) and how she and her oven are looking to get one . It was a little thing, but it just personalized the whole store to me and made me feel part of the community. read more

So happy I randomly decided to check out this market after having it bookmarked forever. Upon walking into this classic Hill Italian market you see the super fresh bread display. Don't sleep on the bread- it's so good. I'm grateful they have half loafs. I then head to the deli counter where service has consistently been kind, even on the busy weekend days. They sell Miller ham for 6.99$ a pound and it's so good! I'm usually a boars head consumer but I'm not sure I'll be able to revert back after trying this goodness. They also have great cheeses. My partner and I decided to pick a random one- the garlic cheese. So good! I don't think I'll ever be able to make a lasagna without it. The shop also has TONS of pasta choices, olive oils, frozen Italian everything, lots of sauces and olives. I grabbed a chicken spedini from their butcher counter (yep there's a great butcher counter too!) and threw it in the air fryer. It had great flavor and was a fun purchase. If you haven't been I highly recommend checking this place out. It'd be difficult for any foodie to resist the fun and tasty purchases here. read more

Momma Mia! I've found my Italian market on The Hill. How have I missed this amazing little market? I go to Bertarelli's and Amighetti's and I yet I have strolled right on by DiGregorio's without taking note. What was wrong with me? I am so glad that I finally ventured inside to experience this wonderland of Italian delights. I was mesmerized by the large selection of oil olive oils and different vinegars. Not to mention the large container of Virgin Olive Oil that you can buy a bottle and get refills at a reduced price. The pasta aisle was filled with more fettuccine noodles then I knew existed and the variety of tomatoes and prepared sauces were endless as well. The deli counter seemed to have more then my local Schnucks, and they have the most reasonable prices on veal chops in town. I got a giggle out of a sign they have taped to their meat counter which states, " We will be happy to serve you when you are done with your phone call." Love it! What I loved more was what I noticed in the case behind the sign. I discovered that they have white anchovies. I've been having a love affair with white anchovies ever since they were introduced to me at The Good Pie. Oh, the flavor they add to a Caesar Salad or hand tossed pizza pie. They've also got kitchen gadgets, booze and Italian candy. The customer service was as if you were family. When we asked questions, they'd walk with us to show the item and make sure there were no more questions. Some high end retailers should take lessons. I've been meaning to get to this review for a while. My husband was in st Louis and went looking for ingredients for his Italian wife, me, who can't get anything decent in Indiana. Forget decent you can't find anything at all . Their sausage was perfect the ricotta cheese I bought was thick and needed no draining. I've never reviewed DiGregorio's? Really? I stopped at DiGregorio's Market on a Thursday afternoon. I was on the hunt for ground Calabrian chili peppers. They didn't have ground ones but they did have whole peppers. I didn't buy them because at the time it was my first stop and it didn't occur to me that I wouldn't find them on my little hunt. I picked up some other fun things though. I picked up Red Clam Sauce, a can of baby clams, Green Olive Paste (I have been really into green olives lately), Cannellini Beans, and my favorite thing was a jar of Artichoke Tapenade. It's delicious! I'm mixing it into my roasted broccoli and cauliflower when I reheat it. DiGregorio's, in my opinion, is the best of the markets on The Hill with the largest selection. I am rating this so low because every person working there was rude and I just do not do rude. Their deli looks awesome and they advertised fresh deli sandwiches. When we asked for one, she shooed is to a case where there were no sandwiches. Searching for other options, I finally asked if they make sandwiches to order and she said she was going to make more when I asked if she would do a salami and provolone, she refused. Absolutely a must stop when visiting St. Louis and "The Hill". Staff is very friendly and helpful even when they are swamped with customers. They carry some of the best meats, cheeses, and ready to eat italian foods in their deli. We load up every time we are there.
