    Steak and Cheese Sandwich
    Gabrielle C.

Definitely a hidden gem. We had the Steak and Cheese and the Shapiro Ultimate Sub and both were AMAZING. I recommended for a quick bite as it was both affordable and friendly service!

I went in with a great attitude and a slight bias because of the amazing things I've heard from locals about this pop & mom market/deli. I had been encouraged to go so many times and finally decided to pop by on a whim. Ambiance: It's in a great walkable area. Steps away from Lindell, bus stops the BJC and few other locally owned markets and restaurants. Right next to a plethora of condos and apartments. It's the dwellers of this units of close proximity that frequent this establishment. It is a small space that takes in a lot of natural light. It reminds me of a NYC/Chicago corner store or bodega. When I first entered there was no one at the deli, and I waited approximately 3-4 mins. I was then cheerfully greeted by a dark haired man that seemed to be orchestrating everything that I can only presume to be the manager/owner. He helped me cypher through the menu (they were out of the ingredients to make an Italian sub) and encourage I come back. Notes: They have an ATM. All the boar head meats, sauces and condiments are all GLUTEN-FREE. For anyone that is paleo-friendly, gluten-free I suggest getting the building your own salad. Order: I ordered the ultimate gyro for my partner, the turkey club for a friend and a build your own salad with bacon, spinach, tomato and onion. We enjoyed them all. This place is good but it's more than the food... if you're a born city sleeker this place gives you "feels". There's nothing like a great corner store deli.

Took my first bite after taking the photo. The white bread hoagie is fire. Nothing amazing but if you want a good sandwich every now and again this might be the spot. Vibe wise thought the inside would be more NYC bodega but it was lacking a random cat and all the grocery options to go with it. This could be the number one spot in this neighborhood but I had high expectations. The customer service is really good but I could imagine getting stressful for them if there's only 1 person working doing sandwiches and register. 3 out of 5 stars

Since this place is such a staple, we figured we had to give it a try. The place was absolutely packed, which clearly shows it's a local favorite. Even with how busy they were, our pickup order was ready on time -- actually before the scheduled pickup since I arrived about five minutes early. The atmosphere definitely had that classic local sandwich shack vibe and seemed like it would make a great casual lunch spot for almost any occasion. Unfortunately, the food itself just didn't live up to the reputation for us. We ordered the hot salami sandwiches, which they're known for, but they were extremely greasy and the only flavors that really stood out were mustard and grease. We expected a lot more flavor and balance considering it's their specialty item. We also placed a large luncheon order of 10 sandwiches. Everyone was satisfied overall and the food was decent enough, but nothing really stood out or made us excited to come back. We personally prefer Adriana's for both flavor and overall quality. One of the biggest disappointments was that none of the sandwiches had cheese on them, even though we paid an extra $2 per sandwich for the garlic cheese bread upgrade. That was frustrating considering the additional charge. Honestly, I'm guessing we may have just caught them on an off day because it's obvious this spot has a loyal following. We still appreciate supporting local STL businesses and can understand why so many people love it -- it just wasn't quite the experience we were expecting.

Finding a good spot for sandwiches is hard especially since my husband is a former "sandwich…read moreartist" from his college days, lol. But after an intense Costco trip, we were wanting a hearty sandwich. They are located in a strip mall, where they are many other busy businesses so parking can be a little tough. But going in, they were packed! Tip to tail, it was just people trying to get their food. And, that was us waiting a while to come in to pick up our goods. So, absolutely order ahead because it will make it somewhat easier. We ordered: The JD Cold Shoulder - cold cuts on a garlic roll with chipotle ranch. My husband loved his, and glad he ordered it with the garlic roll. Joe's Spicy Italian - this was spicy and sweet, and it really hits when you love a good spicy italian sandwich. You can choose your bread, and I opted for mine to be on a French roll. Great sandwiches, long wait, but just really good and worth the wait!

I stopped in with coworkers today and it was wonderful. I sat and tried to pick the perfect sandwich, but when I got up to order, I couldn't make up my mind. Well, they were kind enough to "surprise me." Yes, that's an option! My sandwich was spicy, sweet, saucy and delicious. My four "must haves" when it comes to a sandwich. I love to overindulge on a good sub. The people that worked here were awesome and super friendly! The customers were even kind and friendly to one another. I highly suggest trying this place SOON! **my one caveat is that it is a bit pricey, but my coworkers and I all agreed, it's well worth the money!!**
