I was with a group of people from the community college and we were looking for somewhere to have lunch. We didn't know the area well and the last few lunches we had at this location were average. One girl that used to work in the area, came up and said "oh, we have to go to Paul's market! ". I was skeptical because it sounded like we were having lunch at a grocery store. Turned out, it was a butcher shop and deli with a great menu. We were a fairly big group and they worked their way through our orders efficiently as well as the other customers. They gave the kind of service I like when I eat out. I asked them what the best item on the menu was they asked me a couple questions, gave me a recommendation. (the Italian stallion.) and asked me some follow up questions about condiments, they answered a few more questions and they delivered! When I was looking at sides to have with it, he told me the sandwich was " hefty". He was he was right. A lot of times when I'm out for a quick bite I might swing by a Jimmy John's or a subway just to get a quick sandwich, but this was an example of why it's always best to go local. While we were in the ordering process, the guy who looked like the butcher and was also the owner came over to check and make sure we were getting our needs met. He was very busy, but he even made it outside once we all were served to check on things and thank us for coming by. I had a chance to look around and noticed the full valley of barbecue fried chicken and all their sides. I went over and looked at the meat counter in the steaks and other items looked fantastic. Not what you find at the grocery store. As someone who worked in the food service industry in high school and college, my standards for good service are relatively high. This experience reminded me of my days at a locally owned family run business with great food and great service and a responsive staff. Such a cool local market with something for everyone. I always enter for something, get that and a few other tasty somethings. Fresh fruits and veggies, canned goods, fresh meat including wonderful steaks, cooked meets, bagged foods, including sweet and savory snacks. They have some nice sliced meats and packaged block cheese and a handy dairy section with just a few essentials. The people are friendly, warm and caring. read more

I have been looking for a legit butcher shop since moving to St. Louis and folks, I have found it! Paul's Market is the hometown butcher shop that also sells some local produce and other grocery items. I needed an actual butcher that breaks down large sections of animal themselves because I needed beef bones. None of the chain grocery stores had what I wanted (and yes I have asked). I make roasted bone marrow and homemade bone broth and for that I need long cut femur bones and beef knuckle bones (joint bones: hips, knees, etc.) I walked up to the counter and asked one of the butchers for what I wanted and he said "Oh sure, how much do you want?" So I told him and he walked into the back to go see what they had. Guys, he came back with several whole frozen cow femurs! Like, with the hip and knee ends still attached!!! He said "How would you like these broken down?" and proceeded to use the meat band saw behind the counter to precisely cut the bones down to the sizes I wanted. There is one negative point I would note, but it's very minor. This is a butcher shop, so it smells like a butcher shop. Right when you walk in you get hit with it and it made me nervous when I first walked in. But their selection of products and the service quickly made my doubts disappear and the quality of the items I bought was excellent! read more

I grew up in North County and only found out about this place as an adult (a testament to how much my parents got out), but man I'm glad I did. Awesome meat selection and ready-to-eat meals. The only bad thing I can say about this place is that regardless of how long you are in there, you come out smelling like grease from the chicken fryers (I'm guessing). Not a terrible downside as Fried Chicken is one of my favorite colognes but it does linger on your clothes and everything you buy. My Favorites: - Bacon wrapped filet - Greek pasta salad - Provolone and prosciutto stuffed cherry peppers (like 15 bucks a pound but DAMN!) - Apple bratwurst - Their house sauces, available for purchase already bottled - The Italian sausage is hands-down the best I've ever had. I just grill them up and eat them unadorned. I use it in my lasagna too. And one time I was stuffing some sausage at home and needed casings. They sold me a "hank" of hog casing. A "hank" is a unit of measure for hog casing that means "more than you will ever need" but it was like 15 bucks and packed in salt and lasted forever. read more

I'm a regular Paul's Market shopper, dropping in often to stock up on ground chuck and Boar's Head deli meat, or to grab a quick lunch or dinner when I don't feel like cooking. The burgers, steak fries, slaw, salads, Chester fried chicken and fried catfish are all delicious. Their 3ft long deli sandwich was a big hit at Mom's birthday party. Recently, they went above and beyond catering and delivering the food for 75 to a funeral repast, including fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, chef salads and cobblers. I highly recommend their catering service, if you want great tasting food delivered stress free. The staff is very friendly and helpful. read more

They screw you on their price! I bought a roast for $6.99 a pound and asked them to slice it with a #6 Gary said no you want a #16. I said NO I want a #6 I'm the one eating it and making beef jerky! so then he decided to mark it up from $6.99 to $12.99 a pound! Referring to Yelp post of 5/29/17 - On 6/27/17 stopped by Paul's to pick up a few things. Milk was well in the date. Picked up pork chops and a can of tomato soup. Was going to use the soup today and just happened to notice the expiration date was Dec. 2016. How can you have canned goods on your shelf that are out of date? Canned goods have a very long exp. date! read more
