Although printed menus are shown on the website, in reality handwritten menus on lined notebook paper were presented to customers. We chalked it up to being a new restaurant. I ordered the pot roast with potatoes and carrots. I received unseasoned hunks of fatty beef with no gravy, potatoes or carrots. The first side, Tuxedo Greens (Cabbage & Collards), was perfectly prepared. As a fan of both cabbage and collards, I was happy, even though they needed seasoning. The second side, Pineapple Candied Yams, was underwhelming. There was no hint of pineapple, either fruit or juice, and I anticipated an interesting flavor profile. Soft drinks were delivered to the table in unopened cans. Not a good look for an eat-in dining establishment. My other diner was happy with the catfish, but was underwhelmed by the canned green beans w/ no turkey added, and the Mac-n-Cheese, which was essentially overcooked noodles tossed in cheese sauce. We expressed our concerns to both the owner and the chef, but they doubled down on their choices. Deliver as described on your menu. Don't over-promise and under-deliver. Take constructive criticism and work to improve. Bottom line: we are foodies who are excited to support new local eateries. We want them to succeed.

Great menu, great folks, delicious food! We'll definitely be back! (the only thing that kept it from being 5 stars was the lack of Coca Cola products)

Formerly home to a more casual eatery, the space in downtown Ferguson has gotten a glow-up--and a name to match. Taste: By Tastee Eatz feels like the grown-up, dinner-party version of its predecessor, swapping the takeout hustle for a more laid-back, sit-down experience. From what I've gathered (and a little nosy eavesdropping never hurt anybody), the kitchen's got roots tied to the dearly missed Love at First Bite. That alone had me ready to risk it all on the menu. The vibes? Impeccable. The folks running the show were warm, inviting, and had that kind of familiar energy like you just pulled up to a cousin's house who knows how to throw down in the kitchen. Service felt like catching up with old friends--if those friends also served you fire food on real plates. Now let's talk about that Rasta Pasta. Creamy, spicy, and portioned like they knew you skipped lunch. You could split it with someone... but why would you? This is not the time for modesty. I left full, happy, and already plotting my return. Next on my hit list: that many varieties of fried rice and St. Pauls that currently are only available on the late night menu . If those hit like the pasta did, I might need to start a tab.

You can really tell they put a lot of love and energy into this restaurant. The food came out fast, hot, and tasty! Ordering is easy on their kiosk, and also you can order at their counter. I love how you don't have to mention that you would like your chicken fried extra crispy, it is just served that way. A little quaint diner looking restaurant, no frills, just simple and straight to the point. The staff is super friendly and helpful, which is great for first timers because you don't know how to navigate what's going on. So we were informed to order at the kiosk and we could take a seat at any table. Our food was brought to us by a robot. The downside, yet another place that doesn't want to serve you FREE water and charge for every additional condiment. Whyyyyyy if I'm a paying customer do I need to pay for bottled water. How are you washing dishes, etc..... Also, as an owner of an establishment, anytime a patron walks into your establishment, this is a key moment for you welcome and acknowledge your customers. How rude is it that for us to be the ONLY customers eating inside the entire restaurant your staff is friendlier than you are. I appreciate that Cathy herself was making each dish and she does know what she is doing but the customer service on her part is highly lacking, luckily her employees make-up for the short coming. The catfish and grits is a delicious well crafted dish that is incredible when eaten cold. That speaks volumes to how good the dish is. The New Friday special which comes with 3 whole wings, 6 jumbo shrimp, 1 Catfish Fillet and coleslaw is another great option to try 3 items in one dish. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and crispy, the catfish was tender on the inside and fried to perfection on the outside and the shrimp were large and not over cooked. Cathy definitely has her seasoning game on lock. And last but not least we ordered the cajun pasta with chicken and shrimp, added mushrooms. I would opt out of the chicken next time because it was chicken chunks that seemed to be out of the can, so it had a fake texture. The pasta sauce was flavorful and delicious and the entree was plenty for two. The wait was not long for our food which is a plus, some items I feel are over priced.

At noon on a Sunday, it was bustling, but luckily, there was a very short wait for a table. Our server, Antigone, was fantastic! She provided amazing recommendations, was extremely warm and friendly, and made our experience very pleasant despite the somewhat lengthy wait for our food. The food was well worth the wait. I thoroughly enjoyed my order of salmon croquettes with rice and a biscuit. My mate's Build-A-Breakfast order of scrambled eggs, hash browns, and chicken wings had some of the best-tasting wings that I have ever had in my life. When I return to Hive Cafe, I will absolutely order the chicken and waffles just so I can have an order of those wings to myself.

The server came over immediately and gave me menus. I briefly saw the menu online but figured I'd do a once over before making my decision. I went with the build-your-own breakfast and got the eggs and potatoes with a biscuit and turkey sausage. Drink wise, I went with water and a strawberry-pineapple mimosa. The mimosa was so refreshing and I def. appreciated the pour after a stressful flight! It wasn't long until my food came out. I was a bit disappointed at the portion of the egg as they seemed almost too small for what I was supposed to receive. The peppers on the potatoes threw me off. I think I was expecting something different. Nevertheless, they were good but not what I had pictured. Surprisingly, the biscuit was the highlight of my meal. It was perfect! The turkey sausage tasted like regular turkey sausage, so nothing special there. Overall, my server was awesome and gave great service. While I enjoyed my visit, it would have been nice if there signs to let customers know they're under construction instead of walking into dust on the floor, chairs, and everywhere. Aside from that, I def intend on coming back!

I looked online before I arrived so I knew exactly what I wanted. Mimosa was good! The server was nice and the food came out in a decent time. The fish was crispy and delicious. The Shrimp and grits was so flavorful. My friend said she didn't need to add hot sauce to her chicken because it was seasoned so well. Waffle was so good. We left full and satisfied. But right off the bat was one of my pet peeves: QR menus. Maybe when the pandemic was at its worst, they were necessary, but we've learned to live with it, so let's go back to physical menus. The service was super friendly, with our server training a newbie. We started with the Arepas con Platanos Maduros, a corn cake with veggie crumbles and platanos. They were really good. I'm always up for a dish with maduros, so I was happy to see this. For our main course, my boyfriend got the jambalaya, while I got the mushroom ravioli. He loved his dish. Mine was decent, but unless you love brussels sprouts, you may find them a bit overwhelming. I found myself wishing I'd ordered the katsu sandwich. (They were out of the maitake mushroom dish that looked interesting.) For dessert, we got the dark chocolate and tahini budino, a rich mousse, and the cinnamon bread pudding that was coved in a toasted aquafaba whip that was just divine. If, like me, you don't drink, you'll be glad to know the restaurant has a few zero-proof cocktails. I loved my Smokey Orchard, smooth drink with zero-proof whiskey, apple, rosemary, and lemon. My boyfriend got the Rhinestone Cowboy, which does have alcohol. Overall, it was a good experience, and I would recommend it to folks visiting.
