This place is dynamite! It's so tucked and hidden, I feel like you have to be a nearby North County resident to know it even exists! But alas, there's always Yelp to help. Most notably, the cow on top of the building with the old fashioned sign reading, "John's Butcher Shoppe." It was a beautiful day and the building is just very fitting and picturesque. Maybe it's COVID, but it's the little things, y'all. It was busy on a Tuesday evening, around 5pm. I say busy, but don't think long wait times, these people are as efficient as they are friendly. That day we were there, just to buy a couple pounds of chicken wings, but having never patronized this establishment, I felt like I was spinning as I looked around at their offerings. Just to name a few convenience items in their grocery corner: candy, chips, soda, hot sauce, wing sauce, pasta sauce, their wall of homemade spices and seasonings. They also have a mini deli, with cold cuts and cheese. And it's a butcher shop so of course they have all kinds of meats and a variety of cuts. There's a counter with plenty of staff and you just kind of call out to them when you're ready, you can keep shopping or go straight to the counter to purchase. Alligator, huge ribeye, corn, salmon, shrimp... you name it! If you love it as much as I did, you may be motivated to buy a T-shirt! TLDR: Very clean. Very organized. Very friendly folks. Tons of options.

I'm so glad I found this place when I did. John's somehow makes their prices lower and their quality higher, there's really no reason for me to shop anywhere else. So far I've only bought a few cuts of steak and some bacon, but their selection is impressive and it's nice to have it as an option to experiment with various dishes. Also their weekly raffle is a great idea for repeat customers.

Duck came deboned for a fee - they did a decent job.

To be honest I don't really care where I get my meat from. The industry seems so homogeneous to me that I can't say whether the same grade of beef is better at one place or another. But what IS awesome about small butcher shops is that they do tend to be more willing to cut the meat to your liking. I've only had such luck at the Schnucks over at Mason and Olive in a big grocery store. One huge service they offered was to debone a duck for me for a fee. That, on top of defrosting the thing is already a huge service in my mind. On top of that, this place has a weekly ad that's updated on their website to see what's on sale. This is a big plus because it adds yet another place for the chance that ribeye's on sale. I'm not quite enamored with the place, as I don't think they serve anything out of the ordinary that I'm looking for. However, the extremely courteous staff, the fact that they have an online ad of what they have available (TAKE NOTE, BOB'S SEAFOOD), and their solid prices (sometimes cheaper than sales prices elsewhere) makes me come back again and again.

I found this hidden gem back in 2016 when I was going to another business near them in Overland. They have a great staff. Friendly, helpful, and considerate. It's always a pleasure to stop here and pick up fresh meats when I'm in the area. I purchased two rib eyes a couple of days ago and prepared them tonight. Wonderful! I like their take on the meat snack sticks. Very tasty and not greasy or over spiced. My dogs love the beef heart and ground beef mix for a fresh raw meal. The shop is neat, clean, and parking is plentiful.

Always great customer service when I come here! Everyone is always friendly and they will do whatever you need and if you don't see what you are looking for, just ask because I guarantee you they have it!! This is one of my favorite butcher shops!!

Order at the counter weather you are getting butcher items or ordering food from the menu. Don't forget to look in the cold cases for any number of items from eggs, bone broth, their delicious frozen biscuits, and many other items. Lots to choose from. I don't usually stray from my usual order of seasonal hash but I was eyeing a couple of new items I hadn't seen on the brunch menu before. A breakfast sandwich and hash browns. I was going back and forth and one of the employees encouraged me to go with something different. I asked if I could get it on a biscuit and would be sold. They checked and said yes, I was excited because I LOVE the biscuit. I decided to try the hash browns, too. You take a number and pick your seat, counter with stools line the windows to the outside as well as section that looks into the butcher cutting area. Food came out quickly and was thrilled at the hash browns, they looked so good. Shredded potatoes fried crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside - very good and I would definitely order them again. I am usually very picky about cheese, but I love pimento and the biscuit sandwich was amazing. So it came out as a split biscuit with the house ham and pimento spread, pepper jelly, arugula, heirloom tomato, and a fried egg. I cut the egg in half so I could take half home but it turned out to be nonsense as I couldn't stop eating the sandwich and finished the whole thing! Now I will have a hard decision next time I stop in! Staff is always great, super friendly, and always helpful answering any questions. Food is amazing!

As others have…read morementioned, they do over salt their prepared food fairly often but that's just the chef's palate. Everything's high-quality and poor value after accounting for the price. I stopped in to pick up a pork loin because I was around the corner, looking for ~3-4lbs of meat. They only had a 1 1/2 pound in the case (order taker weighed it to confirm before going to the back, which should've been my first warning) so I asked if they had any larger ones. They were nice enough to check and offer to cut one. That's where things went downhill. After waiting 5 or 10 minutes, my order taker came back out to ask how I wanted it prepped (bone or boneless, skin on or off). I said skin off and ambivalent on the bones. This was my mistake, leaving my fate to the hands of someone profit motivated. I walked out with just about a 3 pound bone in roast, which is maybe half a pound more meat than the one and a half pound I turned down - not enough for my guests and I. Had I gotten a roast closer to 4lbs, I would've been unhappy with the price but not enough to write a review. Additionally, they only charged a dollar less for bone in. At $15/lb, I effectively paid the price of their beef for the meat after accounting for the bone. I felt tricked. In hindsight, I should've just turned it down when I saw the price, but I was a bit too shocked to say anything. So I paid my bill and swore that I wouldn't be coming back for anything but (maybe) sausage or a snack again.

The meat was tender but tasted like a crock-pot version with no authentic Jamaican seasoning ingredients. The greens were a 7 out of 10. I realize restaurants must make their food for all types but most Soul Foods spots will season 'like we usually do'. I did a comparative study between Meats & more and the best Jamaican restaurant in the Lou = Main Street Diner in St. Peter's. Main Street diner has authentic Jamaican food made cook to order. They brown the oxtails first and then prepares an aromatic trio of seasoning - thyme, garlic & ginger. They also use Pimento (Allspice) with a unique blend of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg & other Jamaican spices that tie the sweet, savory & spicy together in a succulent gravy. The Scotch bonnet peppers & sauce are intermixed/braised with the meat, sauce, gravy & butter beans. All of Main Street Diner's food are a 10/10 - RedSnapper, Jerk Chicken, Curry Shrimp, Oxtails, Brown stew chicken, goat, Chicken/Beef patties, etc... All entrees come with rice & peas and cabbage.

I've been there once or twice over the years, and I've eaten from the food truck once or twice. The fried chicken is fine but kinda underwhelming. It's good, but not to the point where it justifies the price. It's served on a metal tray, on a piece of wax paper, as if it were premium Texas barbecue, but at the end of the day, it's not barbecue. It's just fried chicken. The dirty little secret of fried chicken is that it's not especially hard to make decent-quality fried chicken. They sell it at gas stations, in grocery stores. Popeyes employees lacking in basic life skills, whom you wouldn't trust to make a cup of coffee, routinely crank out a product as good as anything else you can get in a restaurant. Not that I'm complaining. I love Grace! It's where I go when my "bad" cholesterol is too low and the balance in my checking account is too high. I'm at a problematic and yet gratifying state of equlibrium after yesterday's visit. I already kinda knew that I wasn't going to bother with the chicken, but I could hardly read the menu. I almost went with a half-chicken just to avoid having to squint. They've got one of those backlit screens, like at a McDonald's (where everyone just uses the kiosk now anyway), but with worse fonts and less line-spacing. I'm sure they paid a premium for it back in '06 or whatever. Everything in this place is peak stomp clap-era millennial optimism, from back when guys were dressing as lumberjacks. Of course there's a random, incongruous smash burger on the menu. They may or may not be playing Mumford & Sons on the Muzak. I figured the chicken sandwich, called the OG Crispy, would be a good opportunity to compare it to the famous chicken sandwich at the aforementioned Popeyes. Also, it comes with fries, which spared me from having to take out a loan on my house to purchase them a la carte. At $16 (I think), it'll definitely run you, but in general, the prices here seem less ridiculous than they used to. It's still entirely too much, but somehow not much more than you'd spend at a fast food restaurant. Are the fries that come with a sandwich the same size that they are if you order them separately? Supposedly, the a la carte side feeds two. I couldn't imagine two people sharing the side that comes with the OG Crispy. Someone might get cut! It was a perfectly fine size for just me. They're seasoned with some sort of blend that's heavy on the black pepper. I would have been fine with just salt, but this was no dealbreaker. The OG Crispy was great! Was it better than the chicken sandwich at Popeyes? It's hard to say. It's probably a better quality piece of chicken. Similar size. Expertly prepared: nice and crisp on the outside and not overcooked on the inside, which is key for white meat. You're given the choice of regular or hot. I of course went with the hot. I wish the sauce had more tang to it, but it was surprisingly and delightfully hot. Spicy foods in non-ethnic restaurants are so often nerfed, for children and, erm, non-ethnics. A few people at my table had the po boys, both shrimp and catfish. They looked really good, and not as skimpy as they look in some of the photos posted here. I might have to try one, once my LDL subsides and my financial situation recovers. Sandwiches might be the thing to get here. Not that you can truly go wrong with anything.

Going off the pictures and reviews beforehand, I was expecting it to be more upscale/fine dining. It was a lot more casual than that. Kind of like if Outback had less tables and more of a neighborhood bar feel lol. Not a bad thing, just different from what I pictured when I made the reservation. We came mainly for the steak because obviously the place is called Carnivore. We got the Bone In Ribeye, Chicken Alfredo and Carnivore Potatoes, plus a Strawberry Basil Martini and a Menabrea. Funny enough, the Chicken Alfredo ended up being the best thing we ordered. We basically got it to have some pasta with the steak and ended up not being able to stop eating it. Huge portion, a lot of chicken, and the Alfredo was really good. Was not expecting to leave a place called Carnivore talking more about the pasta than the steak. The ribeye was good, but for the price I expected more. Once you're spending $60 to $70 on a steak, I expect a noticeable difference from somewhere like Outback, and I didn't really feel like there was. It wasn't bad at all, it just wouldn't be the reason I came back. The Carnivore Potatoes were our least favorite. Verrrrry soft and absolutely drowning in butter. Between the two of us we ate maybe one potato and left the rest. The martini was really good and the Menabrea was a solid beer with dinner. Service was probably the biggest downside. For such a small restaurant we really didn't see our server much, maybe 3 times the whole meal. Once for drinks, once to take our order, and once a while after the food came, which is when I finally got to order my beer. After that she was putting chairs up and sweeping the rest of the restaurant before coming back, so when she did we just asked for to go boxes, dessert and the check all at once. We took the Chocolate Chip Cheesecake to go and that was actually pretty good too. Also didn't realize until we got there that Carnivore is on The Hill. It's tucked into the neighborhood and I really liked the location. Went at 7:45 on a Wednesday and parking was easy. Good anniversary dinner and I'm glad we tried it. I'd come back, but honestly I'd probably be coming back for the Chicken Alfredo before the steak.
