Had to stop in one more time in the Grove before they close. We typically visit either location based on proximity of our location. I loved this original location but love Crestwood, too. Great cod, I love it. It was pretty busy with diners, but we were lucky to be only a few in line. Order at the counter, cashier today was super friendly and that always sets the tone. I went with fried chicken livers as an app and 2 piece fried catfish with fries. I went with the special cocktail, too. Livers arrived; they are all for me! I ate a few and then saved the rest for a snack later. They are fried, but not greasy, a light breading with good flavor. My drink was delivered, I was a little nervous about cherry and orange together, but it was quite good, very refreshing. My picture of the drink name didn't save properly but I think it was the Island Dream, don't quote me on it, though! Food delivered hot and fresh, I got some tarter sauce from the condiment/ drink bar area but I used the Crystal hot sauce, too. The catfish was fresh, crispy, and delicious. The fries were ok this time. I got a bunch of crunchy ones. Everything was good, might try to stop in for Brunch on Saturday but it will probably be crazy! Go experience the Grove and know you can get a lot of the great food at the Crestwood location next time!
Grace Meat + Three is a known quantity here in the STL, to the point where I had to check and see if I'd ever reviewed it. I've been there once or twice over the years, and I've eaten from the food truck once or twice. The fried chicken is fine but kinda underwhelming. It's good, but not to the point where it justifies the price. It's served on a metal tray, on a piece of wax paper, as if it were premium Texas barbecue, but at the end of the day, it's not barbecue. It's just fried chicken. The dirty little secret of fried chicken is that it's not especially hard to make decent-quality fried chicken. They sell it at gas stations, in grocery stores. Popeyes employees lacking in basic life skills, whom you wouldn't trust to make a cup of coffee, routinely crank out a product as good as anything else you can get in a restaurant. Not that I'm complaining. I love Grace! It's where I go when my "bad" cholesterol is too low and the balance in my checking account is too high. I'm at a problematic and yet gratifying state of equlibrium after yesterday's visit. I already kinda knew that I wasn't going to bother with the chicken, but I could hardly read the menu. I almost went with a half-chicken just to avoid having to squint. They've got one of those backlit screens, like at a McDonald's (where everyone just uses the kiosk now anyway), but with worse fonts and less line-spacing. I'm sure they paid a premium for it back in '06 or whatever. Everything in this place is peak stomp clap-era millennial optimism, from back when guys were dressing as lumberjacks. Of course there's a random, incongruous smash burger on the menu. They may or may not be playing Mumford & Sons on the Muzak. I figured the chicken sandwich, called the OG Crispy, would be a good opportunity to compare it to the famous chicken sandwich at the aforementioned Popeyes. Also, it comes with fries, which spared me from having to take out a loan on my house to purchase them a la carte. At $16 (I think), it'll definitely run you, but in general, the prices here seem less ridiculous than they used to. It's still entirely too much, but somehow not much more than you'd spend at a fast food restaurant. Are the fries that come with a sandwich the same size that they are if you order them separately? Supposedly, the a la carte side feeds two. I couldn't imagine two people sharing the side that comes with the OG Crispy. Someone might get cut! It was a perfectly fine size for just me. They're seasoned with some sort of blend that's heavy on the black pepper. I would have been fine with just salt, but this was no dealbreaker. The OG Crispy was great! Was it better than the chicken sandwich at Popeyes? It's hard to say. It's probably a better quality piece of chicken. Similar size. Expertly prepared: nice and crisp on the outside and not overcooked on the inside, which is key for white meat. You're given the choice of regular or hot. I of course went with the hot. I wish the sauce had more tang to it, but it was surprisingly and delightfully hot. Spicy foods in non-ethnic restaurants are so often nerfed, for children and, erm, non-ethnics. A few people at my table had the po boys, both shrimp and catfish. They looked really good, and not as skimpy as they look in some of the photos posted here. I might have to try one, once my LDL subsides and my financial situation recovers. Sandwiches might be the thing to get here. Not that you can truly go wrong with anything.
I really enjoyed my experience here. It was pleasant, low chatter from the guests. The ambiance was chill. I love that they went with navy blue as the color for their walls and it was a nice touch of vintage decorum. The place service is that you will order, they will give you a number to place on your table and a server will deliver your food to you. The following food me and my wife: Chicken wing plate- My wife enjoyed her meal. I tried her chicken and it was a bit spicy. Chicken fried Chicken plate- It was lightly crisp, and tender. Mac n cheese- Spicy, noodles a little tough, would have wanted the cheese to be firm. Collard greens- taste just like my wife's....so good! Sweet potato- mashed to perfection! Cornbread- sweet and good. King cake shake- just like the cake from good ol' New Orleans. Oatmeal creme Cookie- Lovely
I visited your restaurant last month and decided to try the special of the month which was the Horseshoe. It turned out to be an absolute hit, fulfilling all my cravings for the day! You truly outdid yourselves with this dish. I'll definitely be coming back again, as I've never been disappointed with your food yet!
The foodie in me did a considerable amount of research prior to my trip to the St. Louis area. Grace Meat + Three was high on my list of places to visit. My daughter and I arrived, stood at the counter, and waited to be seated, but this is an "order at the counter and take your number to the table" type of establishment, which seems to be a popular business model in the area. We stepped out of line to decide on what to order. I settled on the Catfish Meal Deal (hot) and a side of Fried Brussels Sprouts. There was a sauce station with an array of options. I'm a saucy lady, so I helped myself to the Dilly Tartar Sauce, Tasty Ranch and Comeback Sauce. There was also Sweet Whiskey BBQ and Alabama White Sauce. The sauce bottles were labeled with dates that gave us a bit of pause, but the bottles were cold, so we proceeded. The dining area had Southern-charm, and the other guests all appeared to be enjoying themselves. The staff were all very kind and helpful and we enjoyed our meals so much that we both placed to-go orders to enjoy at our hotel room later that evening. My daughter ordered wings to-go and I ordered the Grace Burger. Unfortunately, while eating my burger later that night with a knife and fork, I found a long strand of hair embedded in the burger patty, which caused me to discard it after those few unfortunate bites. Were it not for this, I would've given them 5 stars.
Food: amazing! This was some flavorful, soul food right here! Greens were fire!! Mac & cheese..fire!!! I had the smoked wings which were delicious, except that I would get them with the relish, and drizzle on the side.Shrimp were good size, and tender!! The fish was cornmeal (which I'm ok with), and it was fried to perfection! My only problem with the food was my a la carte fried chicken wings. He needed some help. It was cold, and rubbery. Needed to be fried a minute or two longer IMO. Not a big fan of tipping before I even get my food, so I have to remember that when you have to order, pay, and optional tip before you even sit down. I like the overall appearance of the place. Very clean, and everyone was very nice. Definitely going back! Sorry about the half eaten food in the pics. Lol!!!
This atmosphere is somewhat southern charm mixed with chic. Touches of southern accents sit in the windows and on the walls. It's very homey and fresh! However, The main star of the show. The Chicken. I got the chicken sandwich and I'm telling you I cannot wait to go try just the fried chicken next. Crispy. Seasoned. Bursting with flavor! I got original and not spicy cause I'm a wimp but the sauces you can get on the sandwich. The comeback sauce for the fr and the hot and honey for the chicken. You can't change my mind. The fries were crispy and salty and seasoned to literal perfection. We also tried their bologna sandwich which is featured on the Netflix show 'Fresh, Fried, and Crispy' so we had to get it. My boyfriend loved it so much he mentions it all the time. Fried pickles were fantastic and I cant wait to try the rest of their menu!
Atmosphere was vibrant and music sublime. The oldies and soul that gets you really enjoying your company and the food? This place had it. I got the fish and spaghetti, hubby got the grilled fish and "Grandma's cornbread," and mom in law got wings, mac and cheese and greens. Latter not pictured here but they enjoyed overall. Mentioned greens had too many stems in them and chicken could have been seasoned more. My entree was perfectly seasoned! If in the area stop by for efficient and friendly service!
Grace Meat + Three was probably one of the best spots I've ever had! It's super close to SLU, and I got the Grace Burger, which was really tasty, but I think I preferred the fried chicken sandwich. It was so crispy, probably one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in a while! We had sides of cornbread and mac and cheese, and the mac and cheese was divine: perfect flavor, pasta, and breadcrumbs. The interior is super family-friendly, lots of kids and families when I went, and the staff was so sweet. Parking can be a bit tricky, but it's absolutely worth it!
Heard good things about their chicken and it lived up to the hype! It's nicely seasoned and breaded, and juicy. The mac and cheese is unique and has a little kick. I'll be back!
Reunited and it feels so good! I met up with some friends for an early brunch on Sunday and was craving some southern food. I've only been to Grace once and that was four years ago. As a matter of fact, the last time I was there, they had a somewhat limited menu. This time, I went with the shrimp meal which comes with 1 side ( I chose cornbread) and got an addtl side of Brussel sprouts. For a party of four, our food came relatively quick. The first bite of shrimp was interesting as I tasted majority batter and very little shrimp. While flavorful, it was a tad underwhelming. While the shrimp may have been a letdown, the cornbread and Brussel sprouts were anything but. The cornbread was moist and resembled a slick of cake due to its thickness and consistency. The sprouts had the perfect combination of char, balsamic, Parmesan, and spices. Overall, I was more than pleased with the service and food. I can't wait to come back.
Would have rated a 5 if it weren't for the service. The girl was very rude and was LITERALLY texting in between taking our order. There were five of us, after each one she would stop and text. While we were sitting down, two guys came in that hadn't been there before. She didn't look up or greet them, they just stood there and she was texting. We were one of the only people in there. Food was great as always!! I wish they had a "mild" spice. It goes from no spice, to hot, to extra hot. I like spicy and the hot was so spicy I could barely eat it. Quiet inside and plenty of seating for everyone.
I absolutely love grace meat! We've been going for years now and I have probably tried it all. The kitchen sink salad is unreal. The deviled egg in the salad, the onions, the cornbread crumbs takes it up a notch. I love the fries and chicken sandos as well. Super fresh and juicy chicken. The service is always wonderful. We love sitting at the bar for the experience. 10/10 place!

The brunch was excellent, great portions and flavor! The wait time was maybe 10-15 minutes and we were checked on periodically to see if we needed anything else. It was also quiet enough to have a conversation. I will definitely be back. read more

This place has been on my to-try list for a while and I decided to finally try it during my lunch break and it was the best choice I could have have ever made. I had it on Thursday and it is currently Sunday and I'm driving back to have it again. 10/10, I can't wait to try everything! Service was good and the business was cute too! read more

Casual dining in a restaurant setting. You order at the front and the deliver your food. Good service. I felt the food was ok. The Hominy Lager was tasty. The cornbread tasted a little too dense. The bologna sandwich which this place is known for was basically a thick cut of ham with egg. I think I was expecting my taste buds to have Oscar Meyer old school tastes. read more

Plenty of seating, nice and clean. Street parking available. The food was okay. I had catfish and fries. The fried brussel sprouts were a disappointment. Just brussel sprouts with balsamic vinaigrette, not fried or roasted. I tried to order a regular margarita, but they didn't have it just an elderberry margarita. What?! Went here for a friends bday. Plenty of seating on a Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm for 8 people. Clean table, serve station. Food was very tasty and quick, however, it's super hard to beat or even compete with Broadway oyster bar's shrimp po boy. Perhaps that was a poor choice order on my part. Elderberry marg was both delish and photogenic #phoneeatsfirst I brought the bday girls fav carrot cake and they didn't do that annoying thing where they charge you for bringing a cake. Of course we shared with staff, that's the only cake tax I'm down with. There is a parking lot catty corner from the restaurant. Just that lot is enforced. A lot. read more
Looking at my initial review, it's been over 7 years since I've been here, and lots of things have happened since then. I definitely was not as impressed this time as the first time. They were out of deviled eggs, so my favorite go-to was missing. It seems the menu might be much trimmed down from before? I understand that there was a pandemic in between visits, so it's not a shock. I had the bologna sandwich which was tasty, but horribly messy. The picture was before I even tried to pick it up! I don't think I've thought this ever (or at least often), but it was TOO messy? Ordered from counter and then food was delivered to our table. Still has a good ambiance. I just didn't walk out this time with a 5 star feeling. So sad. read more

The catfish is lightly breaded and so flaky - great quality! My partner got the half bird and chose Hot seasoning. Again, not too heavy of breading - just enough for great flavor. The collard greens were a bit salty for my taste, but the Mac and cheese was amazing! The service was extremely personal with at least two people stopping by while we were eating to recommend different sauces to try from their little sauce buffet. We will be back! read more

Don't know why it's taken us so long to try Grace, especially since we had heard nothing but great things, but I'm glad we finally made it in. It was hard to choose from their large menu that all sounded great. We started with the fried pickles, which were a large serving and some of the best ones I've had in awhile- served fresh out of the fryer, and nice and crunchy. I had the Chicken Fried Chicken, which was crispy and juicy. My bf had their special burger at the moment, The Don, which he enjoyed. The mac & cheese was great, and we will definitely be getting it again next time. Even though it was busy on a Sunday afternoon, there were plenty of tables, and our food came out quick after ordering. They have an Excel soda fountain, which is always a plus! read more

Met with a could care less attitude at the ordering counter. Given a number for food brought to our table. Very casual and busy spot in Tower Grove area. Ordered fish which is all you get served on white bread. Two pieces, over cooked, more breading than fish for $12. Had to order side of Cole slaw for $ 4 more. Cocktails on menu . Not impressed. read more
First timer. (Haven't been in this space since it was Sweetie Pies Soul Food Restaurant) love the homey decor. We were greeted immediately upon entry. (I'm all about customer service). The greeter was friendly and helpful - explaining the menu and the layout of the restaurant. Great choices on the menu. Lots to choose from but not overwhelming. I opted for fried catfish, macaroni n cheese, collard greens and chocolate shake. Everything was cooked to perfection. My only negative - and it's just a personal preference- but I don't need bread crumbs on my macaroni. Good selection of adult beverages too. The prices are reasonable. I spent $25 for my meal. My fiancé and I were passing through the St Louis area and found this fast casual spot offering southern classics. There was plenty of street parking in the area that happened to be free the Friday we went. The restaurant itself has tons of seating for all group sizes. One orders at the main counter, gets a number to seat with, and someone brings your food out to you. I loved that the menu itself offered plenty of fried fish, bbq meats, classic southern sides, and a variety of sauces to pair with meals. They also offer local Excel fountain sodas. We decided to get a variety of small portions to sample: mac & cheese, grace fries with pimento queso, honey glazed cornbread, and cornmeal crusted fried catfish. The fish was perfectly crunchy but juicy inside. The fries had a wonderful seasoning on them and none of the pimento queso was left after eating. Mac and cheese & cornbread had great flavor as well. Our favorite dipping sauces were the comeback and ranch but we also tried the hot honey and sweet whiskey bbq. I highly recommend making the stop here to dine! I would certainly come back for more! read more
My first experience at Grace Meat + Three wasn't particularly memorable, so I never felt the need to return. However, I decided to give it another shot after seeing what I thought was a great special--only to realize it was last month's. Instead, I went with the March special, a fish sandwich for Lent, which turned out to be pretty tasty. I'm not usually a fan of potato buns, but it was decent. The greens, though, were absolutely amazing--I even got some to go, along with the mac & cheese. I also ordered an off-menu cocktail, which was nice. Overall, I think I'll be back to explore more of the menu. read more

How have I not completed a review for Grace's?! Are you looking for the best fried chicken and fried catfish in St. Louis? Look no further! This place has some of the best soul food in St. Louis. Greens? Check. Green Tomato relish? Also check. Everything is so good, we've sent so many people their way over the years. Go. You won't be disappointed. They are a St. Louis treasure. read more

This place was awesome! First of all, they have a self service condiment section and all their sauces are delicious. Our favorite was the tarter dill. I ordered the catfish po boy. No changes because it was dairy free! The sauce on it was mayo based and very good. It was HUGE. I only ate half. The cornmeal breading was delicious and light. The toppings on the bun also gave great flavor. My boyfriend got the hot honey chicken biscuit. The biscuit was made perfectly. The breading was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The fried chicken was coated evenly and juicy on the inside. The hot honey wasn't super hot but had a lot of flavor. We shared fried pickles and they were amazing. Evenly coated and not over breaded. Highly recommend this establishment. read more

Grace Meat + Three is amazing! The staff is super friendly, they have a full allergy list available making allergy life easy, and the food is delicious!! My favorite menu items: Fried Chicken, Kitchen Sink Salad, Fried Green Tomatoes, Harvest Shreds (they're vegan but amazing), and Mac & Cheese! read more
