3 meat platter to go (sides not pictured)
    Tracy S.

Great, friendly service. This place is delicious. We got food to go. The smoked turkey was my favorite. My second favorite thing was the coleslaw (really good, not super sweet, nice and balanced flavor). The meatloaf was tasty especially because of the root beer glaze. The Brussels sprouts were good. The burnt ends were ok--needed to be more "burnt", and the fat wasn't quite rendered. That was the only thing I wish we had gotten something different. I'd definitely come back here! My husband loved the assortment of sauces.

Great bbq for a decent price! Went for the duck but would go back for the rib tips and Mac'n'cheese! It was fun to do a round of tasting of their 6 sauces, arranged from most sweet to most spicy. I would definitely recommend the cherry smoke one, sweetness and spiciness were at a perfect balance for me on that one. The pulled pork and tri tip we had were a little underwhelming...not super flavourful But their cornbread we saw on the next table as we left looked insanely good and would definitely want to try that next time!

I cannot recommend The Shaved Duck enough and cannot believe this is my first time visiting! The restaurant is such a neat spot with some of the most kind and genuine people working there. The food was downright delicious. In a city that BBQ is always talked about, this should be discussed right along with the rest! In my opinion, it's the best pulled pork I've had. It was so flavorful but not greasy at all. We both agreed that meatloaf with the sauce was the winner in everything tried but the taste and quality of everything was great! I also loved the Brussel sprout side and would definitely get those again! Overall, great experience and cannot wait to bring friends back here!

Wait here the other night and I can't stand enough great things about it. First off my partner is gluten-free and call ahead of time to ask questions. The bartender who answered was extremely knowledgeable when he was very impressed. When we arrived, it was very cozy and acquainted in our server was awesome. We shared the wings, duck, jalapeño creamed corn, and burnt ends. Everything was cooked perfectly and delicious!

Friendly service and delicious eats! Everything we had was super yummy and I would order each item again. The cornbread was dense and not too sweet which made the honey butter combo just right. Can't go wrong with burnt ends - very flavorful with the sauce. The duck chili was a little unexpected since it was on the brothier side but I was a big of it. Meat plate made for a great way to sample multiple options! If I had to narrow it down to two, I would probably go with the pulled chicken and meatloaf (and I am not a meatloaf lover!). Seasoning was on point and def try the meatloaf with the sauce. The tri-tip was also a good option, the seasoning was great! We didn't even add any of the plethora of bbq sauces to the meat because the flavors were chef's kiss as-is. Believe it or not, we saved room for dessert and opted for the gooey butter brownie which layers gooey butter cake on top of a brownie and is topped with ice cream. Mouthwateringly good! The brownie was melty and parts of the gooey butter cake caramelized and it came out hot with a generous serving of ice cream. We will definitely be returning!

Shaved Duck!! It is awesome to see you all back. The renovated space is so much more inviting without the wall. The room is open, seems larger and able to breathe. I used to visit often and it was humbling you all remembered me even after 8 years since I had moved away for a while. Visiting Shaved Duck is a lot like seeing an old friend. Staff always welcoming. The food hasn't changed a single bit. Still as flavorful as I remember and new sauces to explore. The smothered fries are a favorite every time because you will dream about that cheese sauce. I tried the smoked wings, they were crispy with just the right amount of smoke. I went through all the sauces and Black Isle is still top for me. I also liked the modification of the mango habanero. It was much more mango forward this time and had a nice kick. The Bournon and KC were also very well balanced and the Cherry Chili. I was very happy to meet James today and look forward to hearing about your next venture with expanding Shaved Duck elsewhere and reminding those STL knows its BBQ!! Also shout out to Charlotte, you were great, thank you being welcoming!!

What a great find. Thank you yelp! About ten minutes from downtown, never would have found it just wandering the normal paths. But worth seeking out. Great vibe inside - but with this great October weather they were still offering outdoor seating as well. Started with the duck confit and the maple/brown sugar bacon. Very good sized servings for a reasonable price. Bacon was a little sweet...but what did we expect for something coated in brown sugar. We shared a two meat plate with the sausage and pulled pork which came with a massive side of fries. Too much food for two people!!! But the best part was the flight of BBQ sauces. Nice variety from sweet to heat. Hope to return some day

Recommended by a friend, I was excited to try this place. The sauces were all incredible with my favorite being the sweet/smokey option. The tri tip was so tender and flavorful. The burnt ends are a must add and the best part of the meal! The food was prepared quickly and packaged nicely for pick up. I will be back

Updating my review since they have their liquor license. It's a small, but good liquor selection. The beer and wine list is full of options. The food is amazing. You can taste the smoke in the meatloaf. It's one of my favorite dishes. We'll be back.

Great experience all around! They have street parking and you're served at the table. We had about a 10-15 min wait before we were seated. They have a smaller dining room and a couple of outdoor seating spots (it was way too hot to sit outside), but we didn't mind the wait! Sometimes they have live music playing, usually around dinner. We came for lunch :) We started off with the smoked crispy wings and oh my gosh, we were blown away. They are sooo good. I also would recommend a side of the buffalo sauce, it's a unique buffalo sauce and super good. Plenty of BBQ sauces on the table as well, I loved the Black Isle and Mango Habanero (not too spicy). My 2 friends and I shared a combination plate with 3 meats (pulled chicken, pulled pork, and burnt ends). All of the meats were amazing! The pulled chicken was very moist and had a great seasoning flavor, the pulled pork was fresh and didn't taste greasy, and the burnt ends had this delicious bbq sauce on it! We also tried a bunch of sides! The Brussels sprouts and jalapeño creamed corn were my favorites. Such great flavor. We also tried the mac and cheese and caramelized mashed potatoes.

If you are in the STL area, The Shaved Duck is one of the "must eat" restaurants. There is a reason why they got a spotlight on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri. This dining place provides ambiance, paired together with warm customer service and DELICIOUS BBQ! The brisket burnt ends, pulled pork and chicken are tender and perfectly seasoned, with just the right amount of smoky richness. A few of their signature items are burn ends, cornbread, pulled pork and smothered fries. Pair these with their creamy mac and cheese, baked beans and brussel sprouts and it's a meal that hits all the right notes. Equally impressive is the service staff, who go all out to make every guest welcome. From the time you step inside, you are greeted with genuine smiles and a sense of hospitality you will hardly find anywhere. The servers are knowledgeable with regard to the menu items, happy to recommend pairings, and quick to accommodate special requests. Cozy and inviting, with that rustic charm that makes it perfect for a casual meal or special night out. And if that's not enough, Guy Fieri gave it his stamp of approval. He must have known they put their heart and soul into every single dish that leaves the kitchen. If you're in the area or planning a food-centric trip, The Shaved Duck is a must-visit. Between the amazing food, stellar service, and its TV-worthy appeal, this place deserves all the hype it gets!

This place was great! It has inside and outside seating in a laid back atmosphere. The smothered fries were amazing and came out super quick! Awesome cheese sauce. We tried the tri-tip, jalapeño cheddar sausage, smoked meatloaf, and pulled chicken. Our favorites were the tri-tip and sausage. The loaded smoked potato salad and Brussels sprouts were tasty! They have a drink menu that includes alcohol and cannabis beverages. They also have a variety of barbecue sauces to try. There was no wait on a Friday evening with great service. Check them out!

The smothered fries!! Best cheese sauce we've ever had! Ordered the duck breast because Guy Fieri raved about it. The cherry sauce made the dish. The Brussels were crispy and yummy. But, back to the fries. We'll go back just for those. Service was great. It's pretty small so expect a wait on the weekends.

Ask the Community - The Shaved Duck

    Do they take reservations?

Yes they do, but only for parties of 5 or more.

    Is it dog friendly?

Not inside, but there is outside seating that might allow it. There were no signs that said you can't bring a dog.

Does anyone know if there is usually a wait to get a table for lunch?

I've been there numerous times during lunch and have yet had a long wait. The earliest time you can get to opening is probably best though.

What is the typical wait time on a Sunday night?

Depends on party size but we waited 45 minutes with party of 6

    Is it kid friendly?

    Yes

    Is it handicap accessible?

I have been there once, there were 2 steps at front entrance, not sure of other entrances. They do have shaded outdoor seating (we sat there on picnic tables and they had some tables with chairs). Btw it was really good

Do they deliver? Does anyone know of a restaurant that delivers in St. Louis...and it's worth it!m

    No, they do not deliver.

My research brought me here to Pappy's. I'm very glad it did. Ambiance starts with a line out the door, literally. You slowly shuffle down a long hallway full of Pappy's memorabilia. Then you make it to the ordering counter, order, and find a table. The dining room is huge, plenty of tables, with a full complement of sauces on each table. The service people at the counter were friendly, and so were the people delivering the food. The food came out quick and hot and delicious. We had baked beans and potato salad for sides, and they were pretty solid. Nothing show-stealing, but no complaints about them whatsoever. And of course, we got the ribs. Tender, juicy, a nice bite and chew, a decent bark, just a really wonderful rib. Better than any St. Louis style rib I've ever had back home in Florida. Other states, hard to say, the jury's out, but in that moment, I was eating a five-star rib. So good. We also got a 1/4 pound of the Burnt Ends. Usually, burnt ends are the king of meats, but I think we've entered the phase of America, where they're just another variety of meat and not necessarily upper echelon anymore. That being said, these were pretty ok. Should have gotten more ribs. Overall, Pappy's was pretty wow. Great local spot with a lot of pride and history, excellent ribs, I will definitely try to come back next time I'm in town.

It's not hard to see why The Food Network rated Pappy's as the "#1 rib joint in the country", as this place is next level bbq. You can smell the bbq from down the street and it will instantly make you hungry, even if you just ate... The place has the "cool bbq joint vibes", the employees are ultra-friendly, and it's fair/reasonable priced based on the quality of the food (runs between $40-50 for two people). Strongly recommend getting ribs, but their smoked chicken and turkey are outstanding as well. I didn't love their original bbq sauce (it was too thick and sweet with a heavy molasses flavor), but the hoodoo spicy sauce was out of this world. I would put Pappy's up against some of the other big named bbq joints in the country and they'd hold their own... Definitely worth the stop when in STL.

It's the Grove so do what you will with the parking situation. Walk-in always welcomed, that's the only way we roll. The inside is chill and relax, low key with good music playing. We have sat in the diner section a couple of times. Our first visit our waitress was AMAZING!!! She was extremely attentive and spot on with her recommendations. It was late on a Saturday night and we sat at high top table. We ordered the collards and artichoke dip, crispy brussels sprouts, potato wedges, LL cheeseburger and the Nashville hot catfish po'boy. EVEYTHING was a WINNER. The collards and artichoke dip along with the catfish po'boy were the stars of the show and became the BF's and I favorite staples. But DON'T SLEEP on the LL cheeseburger. A double smash burger packed with flavor and juicy, that is accompanied by american cheese, tomato jam and aioli. This burger is not to be missed. We didn't get a chance to eat the potato wedges while there so we took them home and I re-heated them the next day, expecting to be disappointed in reheated potatoes but there is something different about the way they make these potato wedges. They re-heat PERFECTLY in the toaster oven like NEW and are absolutely delicious!!! We noticed that after that first time our waitress no longer worked there and we had this guy who could care less. We discovered why he could care less. They automatically started implementing a 18% gratuity on all checks so our waiter was getting tipped no matter if he performed or not. And let me tell you he sucked. Our food was coming out before our cocktails which we ordered way in advance and he would go missing for long periods of time and our food wasn't the same quality as we once experienced. So now when we go we ONLY sit at the bar. I prefer my 18% gratuity and more go directly to our bartender who cares about our service and experience. The BF and I really enjoy Little Lucy. The cocktails are phenomenal!!! The bartenders really know what they are doing and can craft something extremely mind-blowing and delicious. The cocktails on the menu are equally OUTSTANDING!!! We have veered off our regular go-to's to discover more options like the honey hot wings which were just ok, they were under seasoned and not extra crispy as requested. The toasted ravioli is a hidden gem on the menu, which is served in a bechamel sauce with cajun spices and topped with green onions. Apparently it is referred to as stoner food. I don't care what they call but it's GREAT!!!! A truly unique way to serve toasted ravioli. A must try that I haven't talked about is the collard and artichoke dip that is served with Alabama crackers. Pro tip, always ask for extra crackers. I knew this was dish was deadly when they said collard. It is so creamy and thick. I would purchase this in large quantities and pas it off as my own. It hits the spot EVERYTIME!!! A new favorite that I order in-house and to-go is the smoked brisket sandwich, served with peppers, onions, pepper jack queso and cajun spices on a hoagie. This sandwich packs a powerful punch and the way they shave the brisket ever so thinly like a cheesesteak and layer the toppings. ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT!!!! We are still working our way through the menu as you can see.

Boooooooo! Lol. I'm not a huge fan of restaurants that serve a la carte. But whatevs. I started with the Charleston drink. It was good and strong; came out in a fancy box w a lil smoke. It was semi dramatic, lol. We decided to order the collards and spinach artichoke dip to start with. It was good. It gave spinach and artichoke dip for the most part. The seasoned saltine crackers that accompanied that were not my favorite, but not the worst, & we had to ask for more to finish the dip (we were unexpectedly charged for them -_____-). I wish it was pita bread or pita chips instead, but I guess the crackers are Lucy's special touch. We finally decide on food; she got the catfish po boy, I got the brisket sandwich. She said her sandwich was FIRE but I didn't try it so I can't speak to that unfortunately. My brisket sandwich was ok; it had queso on it and it was kinda cold which was wack. The sandwich was a decent size for sure, I just could have went for a different bread personally. The ciabatta bread overpowered the actual meat. I asked for bbq sauce to dip and eat pieces of the brisket. I want to come back and try the Brussels and catfish po boy myself.

It was delicious! The baked beans were tangy and sweet, and the potato salad was creamy. I didn't like the ribs, they were very dry and definitely not worth the money. The barbecue sauces are in bottles on the table; my personal favorite was the Honey Badger, sweet with a little bit of heat. While I'm still developing my beer palate, I chose to get sangria but they ended up being out of it. In a last second decision, I decided to get the filthy margarita. Even though it's pre-made, it was still refreshing. They have a decent selection of food, mostly bread based, which I presume is to soak up the alcohol. I got a pretzel that comes with beer cheese. The pretzel was doughy, but had good flavor. Surprisingly, it was a nice accompaniment to my drink. Others in my party got the pizza and raved about it. All in all, it was great to catch up with old friends and be in great company. This is a great space to try a beer, eat some pizza and play games.

I came here with friends for trivia night on a Tuesday and it was packed. Weekly trivia nights are just such a good time, great way to hang out, be present, and put your phone down for a few hours. Highly recommend coming for that. They also have a pizza restaurant attached to the brewery which is a nice bonus. They sell pizza by the slice too which is perfect if you just want a little something to snack on while you drink. Speaking of drinks, we got beer obviously. I tried the citrus tangerine one and it was so refreshing. I also tried the vanilla cookie beer which sounds a little out there but was really interesting and yummy. The space itself is super spacious and clean. Oh also they have a lot of board games that you can play too. I would definitely come back, either for pizza, or happy hour with coworkers or to play the games there. They have pool too.
