    LOADED BBQ CHICKEN NACHOS
    Greg H.

I got the loaded chicken nachos. I was a little disappointed that it was just chip, chicken, cheddar cheese, and jalapeño slices. It was a little dry. Maybe needed some beans. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich. It could have used some crispy edges to add a little more flavor- it was just a little too bland. Our waitress was very quiet and hard to hear or get her attention for refills. The restaurant itself is a nice size and should handle parties of most sizes.

I was greeted immediately upon entry. Employee was helpful and patient while I ordered. The ambiance was calm and relaxed. There were a few patrons that complimented upon leaving, a good sign. The food itself was good. Bbq was tender, nicely seasoned and not dry. The potato salad was ok, not my favorite but worth getting again. I wanted to try the baked beans but they have pork in them. I wasn't really a fan of the bread, would've preferred white bread. I ordered chicken strips as well, not pictured, but personally would not order those again. Street parking available. Recommended.

The food was good, next time I can do without the smoked wings, and probably ask for a little more "kick" to the sauce if possible. Customer service was good as well.

Brisket with French Fries & Mac N Cheese

I ate lunch at Smoke N Bones during the week with my father. So I read over the menu and ordered the salad with brisket. Oh sorry, we're out of salad. OK, I'll have the lunch brisket plate with cheesy potatoes and French fries. Oh sorry, we're out of cheesy potatoes. OK, French fries and mac n cheese. So the brisket was very good. I really enjoyed it. Nice bark on the outside, nice little bit of the fat cap left on and just tender enough. The mac n cheese was also enjoyable. The French fries were basic and out of a bag. They had 2 different sauces. One was labeled sweet and one was labeled spicy. I enjoyed the spicy more than the sweet. I really don't have anything to say except edit the menu to reflect what you actually have available? I'm sure I'll be back. I want to try the other meats.

A humble bbq place that I've never heard of. Wandered in while we were in the area trying something else was surprised at how cheap their lunch menu was. Didn't expect much but man this place was good! Meat was seasoned well and very tender, all the sides were great. Very friendly staff and spacious area. We really liked this place and will try to make it out when we're in the area

Pretty good as usual, fried green beans were a 1st for me. They were okay (in my opinion) they were fried well, just not for me. Corn was good and the smoked wings are ALWAYYYYYYYYYYYYS GOOD!!. I had some mac and cheese (not pictured), it was a no go for me. My girlfriend said it was okay. All in all, this is my "GO TO" place for bbq!!!!! Allllllllll of their meats are PHENOMENAL

I'm surprised I've never heard of this BBQ spot before. I'm glad we walked past it and were curious enough to check the place out! When we first walked in, I was a bit skeptical. The place is very quiet with no background music playing. There is no extra lighting inside and was pretty dark inside. We ordered their lunch Brisket platter and 1/3 Ribs platter. Each platter comes with 2 sides, so we got: Fried Green beans, mac n cheese, fries, and cheesy potatoes. The meat pulls right off the ribs easily. Both Ribs and Brisket had great flavors. Like most brisket, it did get a little dry quick when it loses heat. If you use their house BBQ sauces, it tastes great! My favorite sauce was their mustard BBQ. Recommend checking it out! Friendly staff! Gender neutral bathroom! Street parking only!

Yes, this is a barbecue place.

Smoke N' Bones Barbecue Restaurant, located at 6417 Hampton Avenue in St. Louis Hills, is a good value in great-tasting barbecue. It tries very hard to be that old BBQ shack that you might have found in *Blue Highways*. Someone said real smoked-meat havens are to be found in condemned buildings with at least five calendars on the walls. Well, Smoke N' Bones isn't quite there, but they are making progress -- in a good way. I had my usual pulled chicken salad, which had some really good chicken meat plus a somewhat bland mixture of lettuce and cocktail tomatoes. Absent were the higher-end ingredients such as kale and goat cheese to be had at the down-the-street Salt and Smoke (but, this latter salad was also much more expensive). My sister had a half chicken plus sides. Here is a plus for Smoke N' Bones -- you have the option of ordering a side of chicken, as opposed to meat pulled off the bones. This is a definite advantage. In addition, the family cat loved the leftovers!!!! The decor left a little to be desired. Nothing really bad, but neither did anything jump out as exceptional. A mild negative is the ultra-cheap plastic ware. It is sized for children's hands, and very flimsy. However, my reaction might be conditioned my negative experience with a Government site in Northern Virginia, which I formerly supported as a contractor. Their cafeteria had the same kiddie utensils. The food was the best thing about that place, and it was pretty bad. But, I digress. Back to the present -- Smoke N' Bones' wait and front desk staff were friendly and helpful. I hope that their eatery, in its third year of operations, is ultimately successful. Bottom line -- nothing bad here, just a work in progress. The food is okay, if not exceptional. Let's hope that this place is around for years to come, and grows into another great restaurant for the wonderful Hampton Business District.

It is a Trojan horse for one of the best burgers in St. Louis (my wife says I'm being dramatic for calling it THE best; I say I am not NOT going back for another). We enjoyed everything we order: the pork belly burnt ends and cashew chicken wings, and a coffee & cardamom old fashioned that sounds like a personality disorder but tastes like a vibe, smoky, a touch sweet, and very drinkable year-round. The Sam Elliott burger, BBQ sauce, bacon, crunchy onions, brioche, is named for a man who has never disappointed anyone, and neither does the sandwich. And the meatloaf is NOT your grandma's brick: tender, charred at the edges, laid over silky mashed potatoes with broccolini, perhaps closer to a chop steak than a loaf in the best possible way. Vibe is farm-chic: old church pews, repurposed interior doors, a proper bar up front, plus a patio and rooftop for when the weather cooperates. Fun fact -- it's named after the blue duck Billy Madison paints in elementary school, which is a fantastic piece of trivia and tells you absolutely nothing accurate about the actual restaurant. 4.7 Stars. Picking Nits: the counter-order setup is efficient, but it sets expectations in the wrong direction for the first 90 seconds, you brace for fast-casual and instead get something considerably more ambitious. Food comes out fast once you've ordered, which is great if you're hungry and slightly jarring if you wanted a slow, lingering dinner. And the Billy Madison naming is charming trivia but entirely misleading as a vibe preview, no complaints about the actual restaurant, just the branding expectations it sets. If The Blue Duck were a character: Ron Swanson. Hear me out. If Ron ate here, he'd be suspicious of the entire experience until his first bite of protein -- the counter ordering, the repurposed doors, a burger named after a fellow mustachioed American, all of it registering as potentially too clever. Then the Sam Elliott hits his plate, he takes one bite, and the skepticism dissolves into the quiet respect of a man who has found his people. Looks rustic. Has strong feelings about meat. Secretly sophisticated -- plays saxophone in a jazz club under a fake name, builds his own furniture, would 100% approve of the farm-chic decor once the protein has spoken. Presents as simple. Isn't.

The chicken could have been roasted, and the brisket was inconsistent with some tender pieces next to extremely tough, overcooked pieces. Sides also varied. A real chef or BBQ enthusiast can tell the difference. We ordered 2 lbs of rib tips, two boxes of pulled pork mixed with brisket, fried okra, and potato casserole. I'll start with the positives: the okra was fried perfectly -- nice and crisp -- and the potato casserole truly made me smile. It tasted exactly like the one my mother makes for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year, so that was a sweet surprise. However, the rest of the experience was just average at best. The rib tips had a good flavor but were extremely dry, and they didn't seem grilled at all -- more like they were baked, just as other reviews mentioned prior. Long time customer's can also tell the difference because people mentioned the brisket and chicken being baked also .. hence why the food is greasy and dry. It's obvious. The pulled pork mixed with brisket honestly tasted like the Jack Daniel's microwaveable pulled pork from the grocery store -- not something I expect when paying restaurant prices. Potion size for the potato casserole was small. As for the garlic bread, it was just okay -- not memorable. Tastes nothing like garlic. Overall, it was an underwhelming experience. I wanted to love it, but there are too many better BBQ spots in St. Louis to roll the dice again here.

There is a line between simple and bland, and unfortunately revel borders the line of bland. And before you say "some people don't want all the seasonings or salt" there are alternatives that are salt free and can still make your food taste good. We spent almost 40 dollars on two small bowls and two small sides. The Brussels sprouts were roasted without anything, so they were just soggy Brussels sprouts. Along with the sweet potato side that again, could've benefited from a sprinkle of cinnamon or salt free seasoning. My bowl was good, it was brown rice, mojo chicken, steamed carrots and cilantro lime dressing on the side. The other bowl we got was chicken, steamed broccoli, brown rice with a mustard bbq type sauce. It needed teriyaki which wasn't an option. The other reason I gave this one star is the people took the order through the drive through, but when I got to the window not one word was exchanged regardless of my greeting. They asked for a tip on the credit card reader too. Got our food from the window without any words at all. She didn't tell me my total ; she didn't greet or say goodbye, didn't say thank you or anything. It was off putting.

The inside was clean, bright, and welcoming. Everything on their menu sounded so yummy, so I had a hard time deciding what to try. I ended up ordering a small BYO bowl at the front counter. It comes with your choice of 1 base, 1 veggie, 1 protein, and 1 sauce. I got mine with brown rice, sweet potato, grilled chicken, fresh herbs, and cilantro lime sauce. I sat down at a table, and my food was brought out to me shortly after. I was immediately blown away by my bowl's flavors. Their house-made cilantro lime sauce was INCREDIBLE. In fact, my partner tried some of mine and loved it so much that he asked the employee if he could have some for his burrito. I also tried the Hang 10, one of their raw cold pressed juices. It includes watermelon, pineapple, lime, and ginger juice blend. While the juice was very cold and refreshing, I probably wouldn't pay $8 again for it. Glad I tried it, though! I am SO ready for my next visit. I left feeling nourished and fulfilled. Highly recommend!
