I've frequented this place over the past few years and just now realized I had not written a review. To be fair, I'm not much of a BBQ person, but I come here for the fried catfish. I always go with the catfish sandwich which comes with 2 huge pieces of fish, pickles, onions and 2 slices of white bread (the St. Louis way). I typically opt for the fries as the side, but it's the fish I crave. Not many places where you get a good fish plate, so I'm always happy when visit here. Friendly service and everything is always hot and fresh. Give them a try. read more

Not a fan. The food was ok. It really didn't seem like BBQ to me. The meat was chopped up in more of a sloppy joe's. The taste was ok. But nothing I could not have gotten from the grocery store and warmed up. The atmosphere was a bit much for me. It is in a somewhat of a strip-mall. The location was not ideal and you have this off putting feeling that you don't really belong. I was never scared to be there, but close. It is very small with only a few tables. We were the only ones that sat and ate there, so there was more than enough room. (I wouldn't say the place looked dirty, and it was very clean, but it just didn't look clean). The chef/cashier/waiter did it all. He looked a bit surprised to see us there and even more surprised when we sat down to eat. He was very nice, and attentive, though. He showed very good customer service and was very kind and polite. And when he brought out the food, it was hot and not bad, but I don't think I would go back here. read more

Great little BBQ spot. I have eaten here three times now and have had the rib tips, half rack of ribs, and a half bbq'd chicken. They were all excellent but the star was the chicken. Cooked through but juicy and with great homemade carmelized BBQ sauce. Their sides are all great too, especially the baked beans. I ordered a half rack of ribs with two sides for myself and smoked chicken wings and two sides for a coworker. The total was only $18 which in the BBQ world is a bargain. I can't wait to try the pork steak but it seems they rarely serve those at lunch. I've been telling everybody I can about this place because I sure don't want it going anywhere. It's really clean and nice on the inside, spacious too. Update. Had the pork steak. Charred. Carmelized sauce. Just the way I like it. One of the best I've had. read more

Hidden gem. The interior is bigger than it looks from the outside, and the place is Spartan but clean. Counter service. I thought the prices were reasonable... until I got my order. Then I thought they were amazing. The food quanity to price ratio is excellent, $9.50 for a surprisingly heavy bag of BBQ. AND it was really tasty. Win-win: cheap, lots, delicious Must try. Service isn't why you go to a BBQ joint. This place is a prime example. Let's just say it was odd walking into a place where the open sign wasn't on and nobody was at the counter to take my order. But this family consisting of a Mom, father (pit master Andre), and son didn't disappoint when it came to the food. I got a half rack of ribs that despite being so hot they were still burning my fingers towards the end of the meal were delicious enough to repeated burn myself with. Smoke flavor wasn't as strong as I would have liked and I prefer dry rub but, and this deserves its own paragraph: OH Mamma the ribs are good! The sauce was delicious. Some of the best ribs I've had in a while. Okra was great and green beans were a perfect side. All for a price that makes me want to come back. Andre had come out to check on the Patrons towards the end of my meal and handed out wet wipes. The ladies at the table next to Me were really personable and very excited about the food too. Omg. This place is a hidden gem! I have had so many different items on the menu and I have not one complaint about any of them. Their fish is one of my favorites. I enjoy the catfish strips and nuggets and you must try the snoots here. They are the best I have had. I also had the rib tips on many occasions and I usually will get fried okra and spaghetti to accompany it. They are open this year on the 4th of July so I will be placing my order ahead of time! Found Smokehouse BBQ on yelp. And was there eating catfish an hour later. I'm pretty picky about my catfish. Being from the south I prefer smaller filets light breading. The fish was fresh perfectly cooked. Cheese fries were good but nothing special. My buddy had a brisket sandwich and loved it. It's simple place for folks that want the real deal. Horrible customer service! Cashier got upset with me after I called in an order and waited 20 minutes before arriving just to be told, "You're gonna have to give me a minute we're busy. There were only three customers in the restaurant. I asked how long do you think it will take and was told "another 15-20 minutes." Clearly my tome isn't valued here. As the only person in the place I worried that might be a sign of a let down and I must say the only let down is they don't have a combo meal so that I could try more. My stylist treated me to lunch from here. I had the rib tips that were sooooo goood!!! A little too much sauce but everything was good( potato salad and green beans) AND they give you the traditional white bread with your 'que! I will definitely stop in next time I'm in St. Louis. I'm WAAAAY overdue for an updated review of Smokehouse. Unsure if I caught them on a bad day during my first visit, but they've been great ever since my second visit. I've branched out a bit, and tried the polish, the fried chicken wings, the barbecued 1/2 chicken, and the pork steak. All have been damn good. The only downside to this spot, is that the brisket is ridiculously expensive....Rudy's BBQ in TX is generally the only place I'll buy brisket from, and they's $6.49 per 1/2 pound, while Smokehouse asks for $9 for the same amount. Moving along, the foot long polish is ENORMOUS..think it's a mix of pork & beef w/ a natural casing...but it'll get you full for $5.50. The pork steak's pretty darn tender, and is a meal on its own. Chicken wings made to order, and they do the job pretty well....no complaints. The rock star of my 5 or so visits?? The barbecued 1/2 chicken. Seriously folks....the best barbecued chicken I've ever had. Super juicy, falling off the bone tender, good smoke ring, sauced heavy....sweet baby Jesus it's good! They've more than made up for a poor first impression, and have become my go to spot when I don't want to drive out to Roper's. read more

WELLLLLLLLL! These BBQ chicken wings were amazing...matter of fact I cant recall EVER having some as good as these were. I went by there yesterday because I had a craving for BBQ chicken...well they had run out so I tried the rib tip/snoot combo....it was good so I said no doubt the chicken would be as well. I WAS CORRECT! The side I chose "baked beans" could use a lot of work though. Nothing more than pork and beans warmed up! BUT hey....the sides arent the star! ay man look. I went to eat there a year ago on my trip to st.louis. So I got her some wings. can't remember how many, but yea... some wings and fries with a cake and something to drink. the total came out to something real manageable. Iono what kinda seasoning or grease they use, but ayoooooo....it very attractive to my nostrils, ya dig..I samples the fries and the fish... and smh.....boi, I aint wanna leave. the flavor creeps up on you like your first high and before you know it, you want more. I was somewhere else in my head eating that food, my guy. I damn near ate my shorties order too. she probably would've hit me with the "oh, so you went to get something to eat and aint get me nothing?" and I would've been like "ay....you know what.... ay" like aint no excuse why they food that damn good, ma.... I ended up ordering the same thing I ordered before and two more additional cakes with my fat ass. the service was on point. hats off to the staff. I'll be back. I hope they bottle that bbq sauce they had up there..and sell it online or something. cuz I got a lil and put it on my girls wings (which I assisted in consuming when she wasn't looking) and that lil sweet but spicy taste... yea, y'all did that... Definitely make sure you check your order. I simply ordered two Rib tip sandwiches in which I should have gotten one side for each one. Got home only had one side in the bag, Also, I should have gotten 2 pieces of bread with each Rib tip sandwich but unfortunately one of the Rib tip sandwiches had no bread at all.
