$1 Taco the Wednesday Special
Michelle L.

I visited The Red Bar for lunch on a Wednesday with my father. I had never been. They were busy and I can see why. The portions are HUGE! The prices are super reasonable. Good local place. The daily special was $1 tacos. I ordered 1 taco and a bowl of chili with cheese and onions. First of all the taco was good and two probably would have filled me up for lunch. This bowl of chili was massive though. It was enough for like 3 people. I should have ordered the cup. I barely put a dent in it. Both of these items were quite good. My father ordered a 1/2lb all beef frank with a side salad instead of fries. This thing was massive too. He cut it in half and only ate half of it. The bill for our lunch was $14.90 before tip. It's astounding they could serve this food at these prices and make money. I'm sure we'll be back because the food was very good!

Sadly due to price increases the cheesesteak is no longer available. However if you're looking for the best fish in Collinsville this is your spot! I come here more often because of the prices and cooked to order food. Quality is great! Everything is huge and prices are cheap. I come here now even just for the salads!

They excel at their specialties but you better be in the mood for a sloppy joe or hot dog. Otherwise it's a pretty standard bar.

I like Gouda Cheese and it's not offered on a burger at many places, so I took advantage of this opportunity. Adding bacon to a burger is a no brainer, so the pairing was a winner. For a side, I went premium and enjoyed a side of house-made onion rings. OMG! These rings easily make my top three onion rings. They were huge, sliced thick, the onion still had a snap and the seasoning on the breading was super peppery, which I like. They offer a good variety of draft beers and we all know a cold beer goes well with a smash burger. My bartender was friendly and attentive. She was hustling serving the bar and tables in the bar area. She made everyone feel welcomed. When in Collinsville, I'll be sure to stop by again. They're adding pizza to the menu and I'll have to give it a try.

Catfish 10 out of 10!! Seasoned great! The tartar sauce had to have been made in house! Ranch dressing KILLLER!! 10 out of 10. Baked Beans 3 out of 10 disappointing. Very bland. They were fresh beans but needed more seasoning or something. They weren't very busy so it was pretty quiet overall but they have Touch Tunes so that was nice. Waitress (Madison) super attentive, friendly, 10 out of 10 for her! We will be back to see how they evolve!!

The bar itself is gorgeous and the selection of drink drinks and what they have on tap is more than I've seen anywhere else. The service is pretty much immediate, the mixed drinks are fantastic (and I am very finicky about my mixed drinks), and the food....OMG THE FOOD! I really don't like burgers, but the person I was with got a burger and it was amazing and insisted I tried it and let me tell you, it was the best freaking burger I've ever tasted my entire life! I went there a second time, on a Saturday night, and it was very busy, but service was still very quick, my mixed drink was perfect, music was great, but not too loud where you couldn't hold a conversation and they even had security! At a bar/restaurant on Main Street in Collinsville!! as a tiny little female, who happen to be there with her tiny little female family member, I felt super safe and had a great time! So if you're looking for somewhere to go eat, I suggest Sloans, (I just found out they did brunch on weekends and I can't wait to try that, plus they have a full Lent menu, so no having to search while I'm allowed to eat on a Friday right now!). And if you're looking for a place to hang out and have a good time, while still feeling safe, with good service and good drinks later on in the evening, go to Sloan's!

We had ordered one of their lunch specials- pizza with 2 toppings and small side salad for 11. Good deal, right? Well our bill had the $11 as expected but $1 for each ingredient so we were charged $13 instead of 11. One of friends went to ask the waitress- she was aware but wasn't sure how to change it. Geez at least tell us about it. The main bar /restaurant area is pretty cute but I thought the restroom could use some upgrades.

Then garlic cheesy bread to toasted ravioli. Then a shrimp in sauce. Followed by bone in wings. The wings I believe were buffalo style. The garlic Cheese bread was amazing. You had the options of moscaholi, tortellini, chicken Parmesan, and a beef bruschetta? All were good and fulfilling. Then they ended it with cheese cake. Huge slices we had food left over they allowed us to box up the rest to take home. To drink I had a Bellini which was nice and refreshing. Some of my coworkers had the chocolate martini they loved a lot!! I'd love to go back on my own time to eat here. I've heard great things about their egg plant... I would be shocked if there's anyone who has lived in Collinsville for more than five years that…read morecannot say that Burt's chuckwagon isn't a hallmark of the town, as much as the ketchup bottle! I lived here in the late 90s and remember when it was on the corner of Clay Street, and I was drugged in by a couple of friends from high school, saying that they had the best food, I'm such a picky eater, and I didn't think I would be able to find anything at a place called chuckwagon, that I'd be willing to eat... oh, but I was wrong! They have something for every pallet and the food is all amazing! When I move back 14 years ago and saw it was no longer on the corner of Clay Street in 159, I literally felt a pain in my heart and I lived here for over a year before I mentioned to someone else how I was upset that Bert's was no longer around and how I couldn't believe it shut down, just to find out it hadn't, they had just moved a main street!! I was there with him 48 hours and oh my goodness how I had missed the awesome that is the Chuckwagon! Whenever I am asked what we should do for dinner by people who are in town visiting and they can't make up their mind on what cuisine they want, I tell him we're going to Bert's Chuckwagon, watch them, wrinkled their nose, tell them too late. I've made up my mind and that's where we're taking them and I get them there and I watch their eyes widen, as they try the food! Bert's is the best open secret Collinsville has to offer and if ever you find yourself, not sure where you wanna eat or have guests in town who can't decide between Italian/Mexican/chinese or just a good old burger, make the executive decision and tell them you're taking them to Bert's. Make sure that you emphasize the chuckwagon, watch their faces as they come to terms with what you just said and try and talk you out of it, but stay firm, stay quiet about what they're getting ready to walk into, and take them to Bert's!

Prices are reasonable and whatever they do to their soda it's the perfect mix With the "sonic" ice!

Longshots Atmosphere: Country music vibe (something desperately missing from the Mo/IL st. Louis scene. (As much as I loved Honky Tonk's... when thst's pretty much all there is) With new bands every day the restaurant is open. It just happened I picked "Nelly Day" to spend the day at, so things were running later than usual - so thr live band for lunch was a little later than normal. (And they were closing for "Special events".) So the atmosphere from the servers and bartenders was kind of hard to judge due to the awkward hours but if the few here today were the norm... you will be in Good hands So the food: Reasonably healthy portions for the burgers and pizza (of corse all with a bzrbecue flavor... maybe next time I'll definitely hit the Pork Pit.
