    Snoots and tips combo
    Jason V.

If you're ever in the North City area and craving for some great barbecue, this is the place to go. I came here for the snoots, as it is something not very many BBQ places in St. Louis offer. I had the #10 combo, which was rib tips, snoots and a side. The rib tips were great, and the snoots were out of this world. Fries were crinkle-cut, which is always the best for me. Portions were great, as well as the amount of sauce on the meat. They give you bread on the side. I should have got another side dish but I was so full, so maybe next time! Service was great, and the woman at the window was very friendly. I'm assuming she's a co-owner as this is a husband/wife-ran business. She was very helpful and conversational. My only complaint was the parking, in which it is best if you park in the lot behind the place. There are lots of huge potholes so definitely watch what your tires may get into. Other than that, its a decent place that is small (only 3 or 4 small tables; apparently they do a lot of carryouts) but worth checking out for BBQ lovers.

There's little I could say that could do justice to just how good Roper's Ribs is. I stopped by a few weeks ago at its joint, and while the establishment itself is quite austere, the food is not. I came in to visit this hole-in-the-wall (basically, given the lack of seating and brief waiting area outside the ordering window). After spending a good long while ogling the menu and various awards decorating the walls of this little shop, I ended up going with the rib tips & snoots combination and the baby back ribs. While the ribs were pretty classic, nothing spectacular but still very good, the tips and snoots were DELICIOUS. Very unique, and I couldn't recommend more. A little bit outside the city of St. Louis, but I would definitely recommend stopping by if you have the chance. Delicious BBQ, one-of-a-kind offerings, and at a steal of a price!

    Potato Salad & Baked Beans

A Choose Three + an extra side is a good lunch for two. We enjoyed Rib Tips, Brisket and St. Louis Style Ribs with Baked Beans and then added Potato Salad as our extra side. We were amazed at the size of the portions of the three meats. We were so full after eating lunch, we didn't need dinner The potato salad was a mustard base, which is my favorite. It was big chunks of potatoes, cooked perfectly. Not too soft and not overly firm. It was the kind of potato salad you'd see at a family picnic made by your favorite Aunt. The Baked Beans were in a thin runny sauce, but seasoned well. The four St. Louis Style Ribs were meaty and had just the right amount of BBQ sauce. Of the three meats, the Brisket was my favorite. Multiple slices of tender brisket, smothered in their BBQ sauce that has a tangy, vinegar tang taste. Seeing the other reviews rave about the Rib Tips, I ordered them as our third meat. Neither of us were impressed with the tips, which cost them the 4th star. Roper's is a true Mom and Pop BBQ joint and it will be mom and pop serving you. They are friendly, personable and they both make sure you feel at home in their little restaurant. So if you are in north Saint Louis and craving BBQ, stop by Roper's for a treat of down home BBQ.

By far the BEST BBQ! I purchased the snoot and shrimp combo and it was delicious! The snoots were crispy and the shrimp were huge.

It is a Trojan horse for one of the best burgers in St. Louis (my wife says I'm being dramatic for calling it THE best; I say I am not NOT going back for another). We enjoyed everything we order: the pork belly burnt ends and cashew chicken wings, and a coffee & cardamom old fashioned that sounds like a personality disorder but tastes like a vibe, smoky, a touch sweet, and very drinkable year-round. The Sam Elliott burger, BBQ sauce, bacon, crunchy onions, brioche, is named for a man who has never disappointed anyone, and neither does the sandwich. And the meatloaf is NOT your grandma's brick: tender, charred at the edges, laid over silky mashed potatoes with broccolini, perhaps closer to a chop steak than a loaf in the best possible way. Vibe is farm-chic: old church pews, repurposed interior doors, a proper bar up front, plus a patio and rooftop for when the weather cooperates. Fun fact -- it's named after the blue duck Billy Madison paints in elementary school, which is a fantastic piece of trivia and tells you absolutely nothing accurate about the actual restaurant. 4.7 Stars. Picking Nits: the counter-order setup is efficient, but it sets expectations in the wrong direction for the first 90 seconds, you brace for fast-casual and instead get something considerably more ambitious. Food comes out fast once you've ordered, which is great if you're hungry and slightly jarring if you wanted a slow, lingering dinner. And the Billy Madison naming is charming trivia but entirely misleading as a vibe preview, no complaints about the actual restaurant, just the branding expectations it sets. If The Blue Duck were a character: Ron Swanson. Hear me out. If Ron ate here, he'd be suspicious of the entire experience until his first bite of protein -- the counter ordering, the repurposed doors, a burger named after a fellow mustachioed American, all of it registering as potentially too clever. Then the Sam Elliott hits his plate, he takes one bite, and the skepticism dissolves into the quiet respect of a man who has found his people. Looks rustic. Has strong feelings about meat. Secretly sophisticated -- plays saxophone in a jazz club under a fake name, builds his own furniture, would 100% approve of the farm-chic decor once the protein has spoken. Presents as simple. Isn't.

The chicken could have been roasted, and the brisket was inconsistent with some tender pieces next to extremely tough, overcooked pieces. Sides also varied. A side of creamy coleslaw started fine, but ended with a heavy mayonnaise taste by the bottom of the container. The stand outside was crispy, fried okra. Service was attentive and pricing was fair. A real chef or BBQ enthusiast can tell the difference. We ordered 2 lbs of rib tips, two boxes of pulled pork mixed with brisket, fried okra, and potato casserole. I'll start with the positives: the okra was fried perfectly -- nice and crisp -- and the potato casserole truly made me smile. It tasted exactly like the one my mother makes for Thanksgiving and Christmas every year, so that was a sweet surprise. However, the rest of the experience was just average at best. The rib tips had a good flavor but were extremely dry, and they didn't seem grilled at all -- more like they were baked, just as other reviews mentioned prior. Long time customer's can also tell the difference because people mentioned the brisket and chicken being baked also .. hence why the food is greasy and dry. It's obvious. The pulled pork mixed with brisket honestly tasted like the Jack Daniel's microwaveable pulled pork from the grocery store -- not something I expect when paying restaurant prices. Potion size for the potato casserole was small. As for the garlic bread, it was just okay -- not memorable. Tastes nothing like garlic. Overall, it was an underwhelming experience. I wanted to love it, but there are too many better BBQ spots in St. Louis to roll the dice again here.
