Five Stars! This is my new favorite place to go on The Hill. It reinvented itself into a FIVE STAR Italian fun place. While reservations are recommended, I was lucky to get us a spot for two on a Saturday night for dinner. Walking in, it reminded me of a small family place in Palermo but with class. Hostess and server were very friendly and pleasant and attentive. The Ravioli appetizer was excellent!!! For St Louis, having an outstanding Ravs is a high bar and Collins's easily earned a top spot. The ravioli is a must try. The Beef Rigatoni Bolognese was also outstanding and an interesting fact is the pasta is made in-house. The Cavitelli was also fantastic and another must-try is the Sicilian Old Fashioned which was delicious. I could easily do two or three. Collina is a must return soon column. Five Stars! read more

I was trying to decide btwn 3& 4 stars but best to go high and give places a chance. We met a friend here for her birthday and they did provide her with a free birthday dessert. It was a carrot cake that I'm pretty sure had cheesecake btwn the layers. I only had 1 small bite of that part. Entrees ordered were seafood risotto, sweet chili glazed salmon and the special of the night which was a pork chop over risotto. Per my friend her salmon was delicious. My risotto was overcooked so the clams were rubbery-yuk. The shrimp looked overcooked but they actually tasted fine. The pork chop was good but not great per report. We did get bruschetta as an appetizer- again good but not great as there was too much balsamic glaze such that it was overly sweet. Jonathan was our server and I had the impression he was new to the job. He did fine but it was small things. A definite detractor was the location of our table- we were right next to the kitchen. If I backed my chair up I would have been in their pathway. Anyway they left the door to kitchen open and it was sooooo noisy. What a cute little place! First time trying Collina. We live in the neighborhood and it definitely has a neighborhood feel. The staff was so friendly, we took a seat at the bar, the bartender was fun and funny and engaging. After a couple martinis, we ordered the 1/2 fried chicken, I ate it before a took a picture whoops. Brisket toasted ravioli were perfect! Lightly breaded with generous portions of brisket. The homemade marinara is so tasty. We split an Italian chopped salad and it was plenty for the two of us. Spring mix was fresh, toppings of meat and olives were delicious. The rib eye and mashed potatoes were cooked perfectly to order and it was a good quality cut of meat. The grilled salmon with chili sauce was lovely. Honestly it was so good, it would have been amazing without the chili sauce! We finished with the port wine chocolate cake. Rich and delicious. We visited Collina Eatery a couple weeks ago after reading a positive post by a friend. Collina is a corner, neighborhood cafe on the hill surrounded by apartments and homes in a quiet family area. I believe the building was an old converted gas station. It's small and quaint with most of the seating on the sidewalk or patio. It was a beautiful evening, perfect for dining o' natural. Upon arrival we were greeted by smiles and cheery attitude. I had made a reservation for an inside table (not knowing how the weather would be) and they graciously changed us to a table outside. We ordered a couple glasses of wine which were delivered quickly and sipped while we perused the menu. They brought fresh Italian bread to our table to nibble on which we enjoyed. The menu was a nice mix and balance of beef, pasta, multiple fresh seafood entrees, pork tenderloin, and fried chicken. They even had a couple burgers and a wrap for this so inclined. We decided to start with their Italian Chopped salad. We asked how large it was and decided to share it. Good choice. The salad was quite large and more than enough for two. Possibly three people. The salad arrived in a beautiful presentation of spring mix greens, peppers, green olives, salami, mortadella, and parmesan dressed in a delicious vinaigrette. For entrees we went with the bacon wrapped beef medallions and I ordered the red snapper. Even while they tended a party of sixteen, the advised us up front and made sure to provide great service for all of their other tables. Service was top notch. The salad came out beautifully presented as described above. My only criticism was there was no salt and pepper on the table, and they didn't offer fresh ground pepper. They were able to provide salt/pepper but having fresh pepper shouldn't be unavailable to diners in a restaurant of this caliber. When our entrees arrived they were beautifully plated. Kudos! Presentation is a sign of what is to come. My date had the beef medallions with applewood smoked bacon and a cowboy butter and red wine reduction, along with asparagus and parmesan risotto. I received the pan seared red snapper with citrus beurre blanc sauce, accompanied by a crab polenta cake and spinach with toasted corn. The beef medallions were a perfect medium rare (as ordered) and the sauce a great paring. Rich and delicious. Tender. Melt in your mouth. The risotto cooked to a tee, light and not remotely gummy. The grilled asparagus tender and full of flavor. The red snapper was simply amazing. One of the best plates of food I have enjoyed in St. Louis. The snapper was a thick, generous fillet perfectly seared preserving the light, juicy, flaky fish. The beurre blanc light a wonderfully complimentary to the light fish. Another melt in your mouth dish. The sides almost out shined the snapper. The crab polenta had a lightly crispy crust with a center of soft, fluffy, perfectly seasoned corn souffle. Wow! Amazing. And finally, the spinach with toasted corn. The spinach was lightly sauteed and slightly crispy while the slightly crispy chickpeas rounded out the flavor. We were too full to order dessert thought it all sounded inviting and we would expect to be fabulous. Though we passed, they brought us a slice of carrot cake stuffed with caramel cheesecake to celebrate our anniversary. I'm typically not a carrot cake person, but feel converted. A light and balanced perfect close to our meal. Delicious! I'm a sixty-ish, foodie-ish with a wide pallet and dining history. Everything was wonderful. The food great and service to match, with only a couple minor service flaws. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant. It's a hidden gem in St. Louis. Unpretentious and a really good value. The place was packed.. sitting outside in the heat was brutal but tolerated due to what we were there to do!!! Food was very good... Yum! My dad and I made reservations here before our show at The Fox. We started with the brisket ravioli appetizer, which was super yummy. The green goddess sauce paired perfectly with the tender ravioli. For our entrees, I opted for the chicken cordon bleu, which was delicious. It was served with a cheddar gnocchi which was clearly homemade. So light and fluffy, I would eat just that for my meal! My dad got the bucatini pasta which he said was delicious, as well. First time visiting Collina around 7 on a Saturday night. There isnt a hostess stand so checking in is an awkward stroll through the dining area. This location used to be the old pit stop. It's noticeable because some of the staff still wear those shirts. The service was nice but things were noticeably slow for everyone. I don't mind waiting for the food to be done right but I could here some other tables getting antsy. We started with splitting the fall salad which was sweet and tangy, the pecans were my favorite part. I had the fettuccine de gambari. The shrimp were big and the pasta was incredible. Wow! What a hidden gem. Found this place thanks to Yelp and thought it would be a good place for people with varying preferences and it knocked it out of the park. First, the service was phenomenal (shout out to Julie!). Second, the food was great. We had a great experience and sent some family friends the next week and they loved it too. It sits on the corner of Mackland. We ended up coming back in around dinner time. Our server came over and greeted us, she was pleasant. I asked her which one of their specialty drinks was the least sweetest because sweet & overly sweet drinks are a no for me. She went to ask the bartender and the bartender recommended the old-fashioned... I literally get old fashioned's everywhere I go which is why I wanted to know which one of THEIR specialty drinks was the least sweetest so I could try one of those. But I guess that was the only option?? We order appetizers and we opt for brisket ravioli, and lobster arincini. The ravioli was good with the green goddess sauce. Just "good." I couldn't try the other appetizers as I am allergic to shellfish, but my husband said they were also, just OK. My husband opted for a seafood pasta that he said was bland, again I couldn't taste because of the allergy but for him to say that speaks volumes because he never complains about anything. I ordered the steak medallions which were delicious & cooked perfectly, my veggie side was also bland so I just added some salt and pepper and they were fine. This was a wonderful find! Incredibly thankful the have gluten free items AND it is clearly marked on the menu. We came on a Friday evening and are pleased we did. Our server, Max, was very helpful and had great suggestions. My husband had the rigatoni and I had the Seafood risotto. I am the one that has to eat gluten free (Celiac). Truly a big disappointment. First, the good part. All of the employees were very nice. They had a special for 1/2 off bottles of wine if you buy 2 entrees. We asked if we could taste a particular wine, which the server gladly did. We liked it and bought a bottle. Because of dietary restrictions, I asked if they could substitute spinach for risotto, which they happily did. When there was a mistake or oversight, they quickly tried to rectify it. The down side: We came in at 4:15 on a Sunday, just minutes after they opened. We asked for bread but the server said they had none, and another employee said it was because they are closed Monday and Tuesday so they don't replenish if they run out on Saturday. The bartender suggested they get some of the bread they use for bruschetta, and the server brought us 3 small pieces. I believe they may have sent someone to the store to get regular white bread in a loaf, but we left before anyone could come back. I asked if they had any oil for the bread, and she came back with oil in what looked like a small soup cup. There was no spoon, so we could either dip the bread in the oil, use a fork or spill it from the bowl to the plate. When the bottle of wine arrived we had to ask for glasses. My wife ordered salmon and three times explained how she wanted it cooked because it can easily get rubbery if cooked too much. The waitress understood. When it arrived, it was overcooked. The staff was immediately agreeable to taking it back, and my wife ordered a different fish item, but I in essence ate by myself because it would have been room temperature had I waited. They have "guest" WiFi but nobody knew how to get in for themselves or customers because we were told it recently changed. An employee called the owner and got the password. Again, the staff was very friendly and quick to rectify what they could. But my wife felt that the experience was so far below the many wonderful restaurants we had dined in at The Hill and other STL locations, she said that she did not want to go back. I understood and agreed. Again, the staff was very nice, and I hope this establishment can get it together. I went to Collina on the Hill with a friend on a Saturday night to try the fried chicken and was very impressed, The food I had was top notch with excellent sides. We started with the brisket toasted ravioli as a starter and enjoyed that a lot. The fried chicken came out hot and fresh, and really enjoyed the mashed potatoes and green beans. The restaurant itself is pretty cool inside and the servers were all friendly and attentive. I checked out Collina Eatery on The Hill for dinner back on 06/12/2025. Believe it or not, this used to be a gas station. (In the second photo, you can see the gas pumps out front, near the patio seating.) They did a great job of converitng the space into an intimate, neighborhood restaurant. Regarding the cuisine, it's sort of a combination of Italian and classic American. There's also quite a bit of variety in the menu. Both the food and the service were executed very well. Looks can be deceiving... I came here for dinner after a suggestion from a colleague. I was impressed at the website and couldn't wait to check it out. Once I arrived, it was a completely different story. When I arrived, I wasn't sure I was at the right place because the restaurant didn't quite match the aesthetic I saw from the website. When I went inside, I had to go through a closed veranda and arrived at the bar. I decided to sit at a table in the area so I could watch the game. I saw they had a pretty decent selection of spirits and wines but was hoping something from the cocktail menu would catch my eye. I asked to sample both white and red sangrias, but they both missed the mark. Instead, I opted for a flavored vodka and sprite. I was quite famished after a long day of work and was ready for an appetizer to start. It had been a while since I had bruschetta, so I went with that. It came out rather quickly and i was given four pieces total. The first bite was just ok, but again, nothing special. The tomatoes were rather sweet, which I wasn't accustomed to. I felt like they overpowered the rest of the ingredients but because I was hungry, I ate it. A short while later, my entree arrived. Since it was late in the evening, I opted for something light and went with the vegan spinach gnocchi. This wasn't anything how I had pictured it. It def. had a lot of spinach, almost too much. I get spinach is already bland but even with the other ingredients (sunflower seeds, vegan mozzarella, and tomato) it was just blah. Unfortunately, both dishes were quite underwhelming. I ate enough to get full and that was that. While the bartender on duty was super attentive and very nice, the ambiance and dishes aren't enough to warrant a return visit. We compare all Italian food in St. Louis to mama's on the hill. Collina does not measure up. I ordered the cod and it might've been OK. Had it been prepared differently. But the cod and the broccoli and the scallop potatoes were all in a bed of a tomato based sauce, which was quite offputting. We had to ask for bread and we were served cold, hard bread and even harder, cold butter. They did not have crème brûlée or flan. read more

We had an excellent meal! I really like this restaurant, and I know I'll be back. Located in The Hill, the name and decor theme are a bit unique, being housed in an old timey gas station. It has a fun, eclectic vibe with a nice, casual atmosphere. There are big screen tvs everywhere, which was a nice distraction for the teenagers with us. The food was wonderful, and the portions were so big. Each of us had food we couldn't finish and took home leftovers. I had the day's special: pork chops with glazed figs, Gouda mashed potatoes, and roasted broccoli. I really liked it. It was a bit sweet with the glaze, but the Gouda potatoes balanced that out. I couldn't finish it. So I'll have leftovers for another meal. I also had an Old Fashioned with cranberry juice. It was delicious, and well mixed - no skimping by the bartender! The two teens had chicken fettuccine alfredo. It came with broccoli in it. Portions were huge. They said it was good, but couldn't finish it. So...leftovers! My friend had the seafood risotto and loved it. Again, the portion was more than she could eat. So...you guessed it, leftovers! We also had the day's special app of grilled shrimp over roasted eggplant and tomato. It was wonderful! And we had the brisket toasted ravioli. Let me rave about the ravs: they were awesome! One of the best things I ate. We each had dessert, which again were not small, petit sized. I had the carrot cake stuffed with cheesecake. It was all that I imagined. So good. I'll enjoy the rest tomorrow since I couldn't finish it. LOL Two of our party had the chocolate torte. I had a bite. It was rich and decadent. Another had the chocolate cake with hazelnut mousse filling. It was delicious and chocolatey - and will be polished off as a midnight snack, because again the portion was big! The price for all this awesomeness was not cheap, but I would spend it again. It was a treat, as I was hosting out of town guests. The service was excellent. The food was wonderful. The vibe was relaxing and enjoyable. I did make a reservation for 4, 6 pm on a Saturday night. Glad I did. They seemed busy, but not overwhelmed. It's obviously a good spot that is doing well. Definitely a different spot in the Hill. Menu has a little bit of everything. Service leaves a lot to be desired. The front bar and the covered patio section seem to be the main focal point. The back room with the TV seems a bit of an afterthought. Food and beverage started off on a bad note. Wine was not good and the calamari appetizer was very overcooked and was only small rings. Seasoned nicely though. Main dishes were redeeming. Pork belly with grits was good as was the seafood risotto. Not spectacular but very good. Some of my pals brought me here to celebrate my birthday. I crave the sweet chili salmon so I am excited. The service was great. The drinks had the right amount of alcohol. This place used to be called the Pit Stop and we would come here in the summer and sit on the patio. I am so happy that it's still putting out fantastic food. Honestly everything was great but I MUST talk about the carrot cake. I HATE carrot cake. My pals love carrot cake. I didn't tell them I hated carrot cake. I didn't mention it because I thought that since it's something I don't like I won't eat a lot. (We were going to share that and the Flourless Chocolate Torte.) Here is the problem. That carrot cake it the best!!! It's not heavy on the spice or carrot taste. It's perfect. My hubby and I are in St Louis from the Bloomington, IL area almost every week. We have been wanting to try some local places more often but usually don't have time. I found myself alone one Saturday eve and made a reservation for 1 for an early dinner based on the Yelp reviews of Collina. The restaurant is in The Hill area on a residential street. As with many businesses in these older St Louis neighborhoods, this place was obviously not originally a restaurant and has been reborn from gas station/garage to restaurant. The building is made of brick and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Since it was a lovely May evening, I was seated in a single bay former garage with the garage door open. Most diners were dressed very casually. A dog even got a bowl of water delivered with his human's drinks on the patio. The wait staff was very friendly and service was excellent. I was promptly presented with the day's specials and my drink was delivered very quickly. The menu was varied enough to accommodate most tastes and since I was in need of a veggie forward dish, I chose the Piazza Bowl and the white chocolate strawberry tiramisu dessert special. The Piazza Bowl was very good with very crunchy chickpeas, nicely charred squash and carrots and a very hot, creamy polenta with a white mushroom cream sauce. It did not explode with flavor and could probably have stood to have a little Parmesan or a bit more balsamic on the veggies but was good none the less. The tiramisu was delightful and I savored the opportunity to not share my dessert with anyone. All in all a very nice place that I will be sure to share with my husband. Positives: we went to celebrate my daughter's birthday and she requested this place due to the ratings. We came in time for Happy Hour and I must say the drinks were delicious! We made a reservation for the patio and actually got the seats. It was nice weather and a nice vibe. People brought their dogs, etc. A couple negatives: the fried chicken was lacking flavor and a bit dry. The blue cheese mashed potatoes left a lot to be desired as well. There also was a problem with our appetizer that needed to be fixed by the kitchen and it took a very long time to fix. Our waitress seemed a little standoff-ish and overwhelmed. Not sure what was going on there. The manager came around and did offer a discount on our check. If I go back, it'll be for the drinks mainly. Glad we tried it though. Pit Stop is a quaint corner restaurant located on The Hill. It can easily be distinguished from other restaurants in the neighborhood because of its location in an old service station (hence the name Pit Stop) and its menu, which is a mixed bag of both American and Italian dishes. I made a weekend reservation for 6pm to guarantee seating. When I arrived, there were several options for open seating indoors and out on the patio. My party opted to dine on the patio due to the exceptional weather and larger table selection. Once seated, I ordered the Linguine with Shrimp and Clams. Overall, the food was decent enough, however the experience fell short of my expectations. Among the reasons: 1) the meal felt overpriced ($30) for the amount of food in the serving. The linguine had roughly 2 clams and 3 medium-sized shrimp making it less than filling, 2) once the sun went down, there was a 30 minute delay before lights were turned on outdoors on the patio and 3) music was playing loudly making it difficult to have conversation. Perfect spring evening dinner on the patio. Seafood risotto was great! We both left saying "we need to go there again!" Highly recommend saving room for the desserts! read more

Good food. Crowded space. We might have enjoyed it a bit more if patio seating season was ongoing . Food was ok, service was spotty. I always rate service at least in part on how quickly the check comes after the meal. I personally don't like waiting too long. Fifteen minutes is too long and that's at least how long we waited on a night that wasn't busy.
