We had a reservation for five people on a Sunday evening. This location is inside a hotel. When we got there, the parking lot was pretty full. My husband dropped me off and went to find a parking spot. I stood at the hostess stand for close to five minutes waiting for someone to take me to a table. A number of the staff saw me, but I guess it wasn't their job to help me. I was finally seated and the rest of our group arrived. Noah was our server and he was really good! He was professional, but we also got to see his personality. If you come here, ask for him! The ambiance is fine. There's nothing special as far as that goes. There was kind of loud music coming from somewhere near the dining room and I was very aware of the bass. Now for the food! My husband and I split a wedge salad. It was my favorite part of my dinner. Three of the five of us liked our meals. Those meals were the cannelloni, chicken parmigiana, and linguine tutto mare. Unfortunately, none of those were mine! My husband had the chicken risotto and it wasn't great. It would have been better if it didn't taste like licorice. We all think there had to have been some anise in it to taste like it did. Licorice tasting pasta dishes aren't a thing as far as I know. I had the short rib ragu pappardelle. It was not good at all. Those of us that tasted it couldn't pinpoint was wasn't good, It really was pretty bad. We were there for my mother-in-law's 97th birthday and wanted to keep everything chill and pleasant so we didn't ask to see the manager, etc. I was a bit surprised that I wasn't asked about my meal when they cleared my full bowl and I didn't want it boxed up. Ordered takeout so I can't speak on the ambiance or atmosphere (or even the service) but we ordered food so I'll give my opinions on that. First of all, their takeout portions are HEFTY! So I definitely think it's good value in that way. Flavor-wise, it's average. I got the Rigatoni Bolognese, which came in a rich sauce and was well cooked. My only complaint would be to have more meat in it. My boyfriend got spaghetti and meatballs and it was huge. The meatballs were good and the spaghetti sauce was decent. Ehhh. This was my 2nd time trying this restaurant because I thought I had a good experience the 1st time. My entire experience did not feel welcoming considering the restaurant's reputation. I decided to call in my order for pickup and was told I couldn't order a kids meal; that the child had to dine-in to receive it. Lol, fine. I proceed to order something else and ask for the total. I was put on hold, never to be spoken to again. Since it was pickup, I go inside. Before I see the receptionist, me and a staff person lock eyes and she literally turns around as to avoid me. No greeting, no smile, it's like I didn't exist. I tell the receptionist I had called in and she never returned to the call for my total. She goes to get someone--who takes an additional 7mins--to provide me the ticket. Then, she grabs her purse behind the counter and vanishes, never to be seen again. Maybe no one in this restaurant cared to see me. Idk, but the energy was repelling. The restaurant wasn't too busy, very clean. Food was ok. I ordered calamari, pizza, and a salad, paid $52. I love calamari, so it wasn't the best tasting to me. However, there's an orange sauce that accompanies the dish and it's so good! This is a family owned business with another location. Our entire meal was filled with employees gossiping at the bar or sitting there watching tv, including who I can only assume was the owner. So much for a romantic dinner. Meal includes some bread, hard borderline stale bread. We ordered the fried cheese, refrigerator cold on the inside. Waiter commented "jeez" as he walked away, like asking for a warm app was out of line. The pasta side dish had been left under a warming lamp long enough it was burnt in the edges of the pasta and crunchy. Three entire pieces of chicken in the chicken fettuccine. They make a really good martini, I like mine with their hand stuffed blue cheese olives. Their house red wine is a montepulciano which is very good. Food: The calamari was just right texture wise, flavor lacking but the sauce was great. A solid 3.5/ 5 My eggplant parmesan was very tasty and flavorful, the pasta it came with was very bland and that was disappointing with an Italian restaurant. But overall 3/5. I also tried the cannoli and presentation 5/5, but taste was where I was disappointed 2.5/5, it was just ok nothing to right home about and I was sad about the unsatisfactory in the calories consumed. But all is well in that regard. Overall experience was not bad. When I entered the restaurant I was over 20 mins early and was seat immediately regardless, which was great. The waiter was pleasant, but it was my first visit and I nearly felt rushed to order being asked my order immediately upon sitting down. Regarding pauses and asking if someone has been there before could go a long way. Final take I would possibly visit again, maybe or maybe not; the Italian restaurant market here is solid enough that not returning would not mean anything. Bartolino's is one the best Italian restaurants on the Hill. In business in the area for 60 years, they have perfected recipes that go back decades! The pizza is an untold secret and highlight of the restaurant! You gotta get one for dine in or take out. It's the best thin crust pizza in Missouri! This visit I kept it simple and had a dish not even on the menu which they created and serve to one customer who requests it every time she is there. I call it The Laura Dish, it's simple 2 grilled chicken breasts and steamed broccoli. The chicken breast is moist and delicious, the broccoli is large sprigs s some of the most perfect prepared steamed broccoli I have ever had. I'm not sure what they do but I wish I knew, to replicate it at home! The maître d' and the servers are professional, kind and attentive, without being overly attentive. The ambience is nice and always clean and well lit. The bathrooms are always spotless. They also have a live band on Sundays and people even dance and have a good time. read more

On a whim, I came here with a friend after trying to find something for dinner. We were a bit worried as the parking lot was full, but noticed there were several tables available upon entry. We were promptly seated and had someone come fill our glasses with water. Shortly after the server arrived and I asked him whether the rose' listed was flat or sparkling. He seemed unsure but said it was sparkling. I ordered it and indeed it was not sparkling. The next time he came around, I notified him that it was flat and asked to switch to Prosecco instead. He was happy to accommodate. What shocked me was this was now the second time I was given a sparkling beverage served in the wrong glass. Don't get me wrong, by no means am I a wine snob, but I definitely know which glass goes with the which. Moving on, I went with the chicken spiedini for my main and chose the white sauce pasta as my side. My date chose the cannelloni. It wasn't long until our food arrived and unfortunately, this was the catalyst that led to the downfall of our evening. I noticed the spiedini was unlike any I had ever had before since it was stuffed with tomato and cheese. It tasted off and I ended up not caring for it at all. My date's cannelloni was good but he tapped out as he got full rather quickly. To sum up the evening, it was just ok. Oh, I forgot to mention the ac wasn't working, so it was hot as all get out. I was pretty excited to stop by here as this used to be a favorite, but I was pretty disappointed. We arrived around 8:10 (restaurant closes at 9) and were immediately told that the kitchen was closing so we needed to be fast. When we sat down, the waitress also told us to hurry up. Again, we still had 50 minutes. We ended up ordering right away. We had the house salad and angel hair roseanne, and a burger. The scallops in my pasta dish were still cold. This was our first visit after the restaurant was remodeled. It was our monthly dinner out with our County friends (my wife's college friend and her spouse). The food was amazing . The pasta combination dish was in a red sauce but could be in any of the 3 other sauces available. A Bolognese sauce was my second choice. The dish came out hot and filled to the top of the pasta bowl. The pasta was plentiful inside There were ravioli, spaghetti noodles rigatoni a few large shell noodles and a few meatballs to top it off. The amount of food was great. We had leftovers and still had plenty of food. It was nice meeting Mr Bartolino at the hostess station very much a welcoming gesture. Thank you. The food was awesome very flavorful and lots of choices pasta fish and chicken. I would have given this review a 5 but we had a full glass of wine dumped on my wife but did get a new glass and not charged for it. It was a weird way it happened. Good Italian in a surprising location (lobby of a Drury Inn?!). Nothing fancy. Nothing too special. Big portions. A little pricey for the pretty straightforward food. Probably three star food -- nothing to write home about -- but our server, who was absolutely fabulous, earned the extra. In fact I'd say in general, everyone we came across at the restaurant was welcoming and upbeat. Bread and bread sticks with olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and grated Parmesan came to the table to get us started. Three of us shared the appetizer sampler, which was fun -- a little bit of everything from stuffed mushrooms to fried mozzarella sticks, fried ravioli, and a cannoli -- all of which were predictably good for these hungry diners. One spinach salad with fried artichoke -- perfectly good. One short rib pasta that was delicious and HUGE. And one halibut special that was tasty, if way too heavy on the cream sauce for this diner. I enjoyed my cocktail and the red by the glass recommended by our server; my companion was less impressed by the Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc. It's a perfectly good family kind of meal: simple, ample, nothing too fancy, served in a buzzy room that made us forget we were in a hotel lobby. Night out planned with some friends to celebrate my birthday. I studied the menus well and looked at pictures on yelp. The two things that swayed me here was a cocktail on their website menu that sounded absolutely delicious, the Raspberry Bourbon Smash, and the pictures on Yelp of the Tiramisu. When you book online to make reservations you actually have to give your charge card as they could charge you $15 a person for a no-show or late cancellation. On the reservation it asked if we were celebrating anything so we indicated a birthday celebration. Normally the ambience is great here, but we were sat at the very last booth right by the door where the hotel guest come and leave from. Honestly didn't see much of the restaurant back there. Our waiter introduced himself and asked us if we had been here before and if we were celebrating anything. My friend told him that we were celebrating my birthday. I was looking at the cocktail menu and to my disappointment I did not see the Raspberry Bourbon Smash. It was a different menu than the cocktails on their website. I asked if they had it. He checked and said they didn't have the ingredients anymore so we settled for sangria. We ordered the sampler appetizer platter. When it arrived to the table, it had 1 cannelloni that we could split 4 ways, 4 stuffed mushrooms, 4 fried cheese sticks, 4 toasted raviolis, and only 3 broiled shrimp. Why would you only get 3 shrimp? It seems like it should've been 4 for $26. I forfeited my shrimp so the others could try it. My husband said the stuffed mushrooms was the best he ever had. So I traded him mine for his cheese stick so he could enjoy another. The others said the same thing about the mushrooms. The cheese sticks and cannelloni were really good. The shrimp they said was just OK so I guess I didn't miss out. The toasted raviolis were hit and miss. Two of them were stuffed full and two were pretty hollow. Onto the main course. My husband ordered the Tortellini Con Piselli. It is always delicious (rich and creamy) and always a very large serving. The other two ordered the special of the day, a fish dish which they said was very tasty and the Salmon Carsiofi which they said was cooked perfect and a very large serving. I ordered the Chicken Spiedini. I had high hopes for it, but honestly it was just OK. We all thought it should've been cooked a little bit more. It was very pale and soggy. I actually only ate one of them and took the other one home so I could reheat it and make it crispy. For my side I was torn between a baked potato or pasta. The waiter said you're at an Italian restaurant so you should probably get the pasta so I went with that. I ordered the pasta with pink sauce. When my meal came, I took a couple bites of it and I knew it was incorrect. He came back to the table and I asked him if this was the pink sauce. He looked at it and said oh no that's the marinara sauce. He took it back to the kitchen and came out with the pink. This was way better, very delicious and creamy. Now onto the desert, the one thing I was waiting for. I saw the pictures of their delicious tiramisu on Yelp so I knew that this is what I wanted to order. When they brought our desserts and she put it in front of me I said, oh no, I ordered the tiramisu. She said this is the tiramisu. I was like no that's not what it looked like on Yelp it's square and... She said oh we serve it like this sometimes. I was so disappointed it basically looked like pudding in a cup. No ladyfingers in it and half the size of the pictures on Yelp, but it still cost $13. Considering that this was the one factor why I chose this restaurant you can just imagine my disappointment. I honestly can't even tell you how it tasted because when I was eating it all I could think of was this is not a tiramisu from a fine Italian restaurant. It was something you would get off of a buffet. All I have to say is if you come here and you want tiramisu ask them before you order if it's the good homemade tiramisu that comes in a square slice with ladyfingers or if it's like pudding in a cup. We were so confused why they kept asking us if we were celebrating anything because they never did anything for my birthday. I'm not sure if they normally do and the waiter just forgot. My friends ordered the strawberry cheesecake which looked absolutely delicious and a dessert drink called the brown squirrel, which they said was very rich, creamy and wonderful. All and all we had a good time and good conversation throughout the dinner. We were there for a couple of hours. Our bill, including tip for the four of us was $335. That was for four cocktails, one combination appetizer, four entrées, two desserts, and one dessert cocktail. They did not know their types of pasta, advertise, Catelli pasta and gave us shells, then the waiter proceeded to argue with me when I told him that is not what I ordered. He offered no apology and no (manager) came to be sure we were OK. We walked in and heard music from the street, they had what they called live music in the bar and it sound like they were having karaoke night very loud which made for not a nice dining experience. Decided to do another StL Pizza Passport place. We were able to sit outside on the patio and enjoy the nice evening weather. Our waiter was very nice but it took a little long for just about everything.. order taking, our drinks to arrive, food, more drinks, dessert.. etc. Even though the visit was long.. the food made up for it.. The pizza was superb and the Seafood Risotto was just about the BEST around. Even though we were full we couldn't pass up a piece of Tiramisu. My Favorite!! And so yummy. They had a great Music Duo there and I truly enjoyed the evening. So I guess I was glad it took awhile for our food and drinks. Shhhh.....we gotta keep this a secret. The Happy Hour, at Bartolino's Osteria, is top notch. They celebrate HH, 3-6 PM, every Monday thru Wednesday. On Thursday, they celebrate Happy Hour 3- Close in the bar and on the patio. Now that is how HH should be scheduled. In addition to discounted adult beverages, they have a special bar menu offering super deals on a variety of finger foods. Some of the most popular are; Toasted Ravioli, Pizza Fries, Crab Cake, Lobster Rangoon, Mini Cheeseburger and a One Topping Pizza. The bartenders are old school. They free-pour their creations, making them extra strong. Many of the patrons sitting around the bar are regulars. It's almost shades of Cheers. They all greet each other by name as they position themselves on a bar stool. Don't worry if you're not a regular, they're all extremely friendly and welcoming.
