Welcome to Stone Turtle
Kevin H.

City dining in November with my wife's college friend. We chose Stone Turtle. some place new to everybody. This little quaint restaurant in Dogtown is small and intimate. It has basic burgers to nice steak dinners. I had the steak entree special 12 oz strip steak and saffron risotto. The steak was cooked to medium as I like it and the risotto was a nice mouthfeel soft melt in your mouth flavorful.. I added a white wine to go with my steak choice A Hess Chardonnay this was easy drinking and slightly fruity . We opted out of the desert menu. A tough decision although the desert menu was tempting. I recommend this restaurant you will not be disappointed with Stone Turtle

Stone Turtle always hits for brunch! I had made plans with friends to go to the pool but the weather wasn't cooperating, this was the best alternative to spend time together and enjoy a great meal! We always get the bottle to make our own mimosas and it's truly the best and most cost effective. I got the burger and it was delicious and cooked perfectly. I've loved everything I've had here and am making a conscious effort to come back for dinner.

Cozy ambiance but the food and service seemed very slow. I ordered cheese curds and a side house salad. Asked for some ranch to go with the cheese curds (was charged extra for the dipping sauce - strange that the curds don't come with a sauce and would have been nice to be told that it's an extra charge for jalepeno ranch). The cheese curds were good. I did end up sending the salad back after two bites because it had goat cheese on it. (Totally my fault for not realizing that there was goat cheese. Was still surprised to see it on my bill but did not complain as it was my fault for not remembering that it had it on there. I would have asked to have it removed, and the waiter did offer to have the chef remake it.) The other diners with me did enjoy their meals and libations.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Went in Friday evening & the staff & owner were so attentive trying to find us a table. Only took a few minutes til a bar spot opened up. I have been here many times but tried some nee items this go around. Steak au poivre Caesar salad Truffle aioli & parm fries. Caesar was so good we ordered a 2nd one! The steak was melt in your mouth. The grits were amazing- a pan fried(?) slice. Crispy yet creamy & oh so delicious. Bar is dark & chill atmosphere. Miley the bartender makes some mean cocktails. And the cocktail ice cubes have turtles or dragons in them. Just a fun little thing to remember them by.

Amazing service by Genesis. Steak was just okay but very fair price. A little too much sauce. Amazing drinks, great price & tons of options esp na. Buratta salad very gd. Salmon nice, grits a little too salty but loved them as an option.

Our whole family loves the giant stone turtle by the Zoo so the name of this restaurant caught my eye. It is several blocks south of the eponymous statue, and the restaurant likes in the heart of Dogtown. The restaurant is dived into two areas, a dining room and a bar area. There are a mixture of booths and tables, with most seating 4 people. The interior is welcoming and has a warm vibe to it. The acoustics were somewhat loud, but that was the only complaint. Our server Genesis was very enthusiastic and attentive. There were a large number of beers on draft and a good selection of cocktails. The food I'd describe as american fare mixed with asian themes. We got Tiger Rolls which were crab rangoon in egg roll form, some ribs with asian seasoning ,and a brisket dip and fries. All three were very good. The brisket dip was HUGE and I ended up taking all of it home. Overall this is a good addition to the Dogtown neighborhood and it is worth checking out.

The food was really good and tasty! The calamari was pretty airy. The steak and chimichari was melt in your mouth and the brisket tasted so good. The servers were fast and helpful! The resturant was nice but you could also wear jeans

We came here for Father's Day and we did enjoy our meal. I got the pork chop and it tasted pretty good and was seasoned very nicely. I wish the menu had a few more options. I also got the watermelon drink and it was very good and refreshing. I also asked for it to be sweeter and they did that. We got there right when it open and it seemed like it did take a little while for our food to get to our table. But overall, the service was good.

Food service and ambiance was great. Tiger rolls are spicy but good. Mocktails are authentic

We had a good dining experience here on a Sunday evening. Our server was attentive and friendly. They have a small menu with some daily specials available. The dining room is cozy. We got the steak frites and salmon dinner. Both were very good! The steak frites was our favorite out of the two - the French fries were delicious & steak was flavorful, a good portion, and cooked to perfection! I really enjoyed the grilled salmon and asparagus but wasn't a huge fan of the potatoes that came with the salmon meal. Overall, a good dinner and would come back for these entrees!

This place is great. Cozy, but modernistic while rustic, in an up and coming area. The dining room was packed with locals, and there wasn't a darn thing that came out of the kitchen that Disney look dynamite! Genesis quickly took me under her wing (gluten allergy) and guided me through the menu. She was darling, caring and cheerful. We started with the fondue, which was just off the chain! Creamy and delicious, and Genesis kept the bread on a separate plate. We split a Caesar, which wasn't quite as good as I anticipated from seeing it -- don't get me wrong -- still very good, but I think i wanted a little more creaminess and garlic. Steak au poivre was our entree .... And oh my ..... I would have rented more solace in my stomach if I could! Cooked to perfection and bursting with deep, rich flavors. Do it -- go off the beaten track and find this joint, especially if you are spending time in the park, or are Muny. We love you, Genesis!

We had gone here when they first opened. I have to say, I don't remember the food too much from back then. I'm sure it was good, but then Covid happened and hadn't been back....until recently. Boy have I been missing out. Its not a huge place (I wouldn't say it's small either), but the ambiance is nice, sitting at the corner of Tamm and Clayton in Dogtown. I started the night off with a dirty martini. I know, they are known for their bourbons, but that's just not me. It was a VERY good martini. We then got the Polynesian Ribs for an app. You get 4 ribs with a salad next to it. The ribs were sweet and tender and delicious and the salad was good too especially mixing it with the glaze from the ribs. For mains, I got the grilled salmon. It was in a sweet glaze and it was cooked perfectly. The glaze also mixed in a little bit with the new potatoes that were on the plate for a nice sweet and savory mix. My wife got the brisket sandwich. It was huge!!! The brisket was thick sliced and gouging with cheese. Of course she couldn't finish it, so I grazed on it the entire next day. The fries that came with it were pretty awesome as well. All around this was a fantastic dining experience and the service was great! DO IT!!!

Great date night spot if you're looking for a casual dinner with a good ambiance. Brisket dip is my go to, always enough for a to-go box.

The atmosphere is exactly what you'd hope for, relaxed, comfortable, and perfect for unwinding. Service was spot on as well. The wines on the main menu are very solid, but the real highlight was the proprietor's list. It's packed with some incredible Spanish and French bottles you don't come across very often, definitely worth exploring. We started with a French Pinot Noir paired with the crab cakes and a cheese board, which were both great. But honestly, once we tried a Garnacha from Spain, we got completely sidetracked, in the best way. It was that good. At that point, food kind of became an afterthought. Looking forward to another visit to explore more wines from the cellar!

There were a few open tables, but we were asked to wait by the door while they "got situated." Meanwhile, a walk-in who arrived after us was seated at a table we had been waiting for. When we were finally seated, we were placed in direct sun. I asked if we could move to a shaded table in the corner and was told it was only for parties of three. After explaining we'd just be there briefly for a drink, we were allowed to sit there, but the interaction felt dismissive. From that point on, the experience felt rushed. We were pushed to order quickly, our menus were taken right away, and the check came almost immediately. It made what should have been a relaxed stop feel uncomfortable and transactional. I understand how busy restaurants can get, especially on nice days, but a little more consideration and courtesy would have gone a long way.

On top of the food, they have a really strong wine selection, which made the experience even better. The overall vibe is polished and elevated without feeling too formal. I also got the apple dish, which was listed under the salads but the waiter was sure to explain it's not an actual salad. Since it wasn't a full salad I also got the soup. I also really enjoyed my non alcoholic drink (can't remember what it was called). This is a 4 course meal, including dessert so we had to pick one item from each category. I chose the carrots to start and they were yummy and flavorful! For my second course, I had the rabbit, it was good too, but my friend had the trout and I really enjoyed it. For the 3rd course, I had the spare ribs and they were amazing! I ended my meal with a rubarb dessert, which was tasty too! Overall great meal, and just the right amount of food! Tables were a little tight together, but the atmosphere here is good. Not too loud. A small plates restaurant that felt a little Italian. We make reservations and show up to this place that looks like a neighborhood pub. Quaint, in the corner, inviting light shining through medium sized windows. Inside, the vibes were a hybrid of someone's very nice dining room and an old western saloon. I know that's almost nonsensical, but the vibes were good. We felt right at home. Service was spot on. The server was very nice and new the menu pretty well. The food came out tapas style, so when something was ready, it just came right out. I like that. I like the periods where there are so many plates on the table at one time that it's overwhelming. What's what eating is all about. As for the food itself, it was good. I'll give a little blurb on each thing, as not to wear out your eyeballs. Crispy Artichokes (sauce au vert). These were fun and nice and crispy. Don't see artichokes like these very often. The sauce was a little weak, though. Didn't exactly go well with these fried little morsels. 'Nduja Croquetas (bomba rice, spicy prosciutto, fontina, grenada pepper aioli). Wow, now these little flavor bombs cannot be missed. Spicy sausage arancinis with a nice peppery aioli to dip. An intensely flavorful little dish that I loved. Can't find it on the menu, maybe it was seasonal, maybe it was a special, but we had a bone marrow French onion soup that was nice. The soup was good good. Very well developed flavors. The marrow bone was a little sloppy, though, and we got a transverse cut of bone, leaving very little marrow to access. Next were the Mussels (green garlic broth, Spanish vermouth, pickled peppers, spring onions, grilled LF bread). Very well cooked mussels, sitting in a lovely broth to dip your bread in. Ask for extra bread. But do not ask for extra of that sauce. That was really bad sauce. Sauce work seems to be this place's only weak point. Probably the biggest dish of the night, the Bolognese Bianco (Newman Farms pork & mushroom bolognese, bucatini, gremolata, parmigiano reggiano). This was a really nice pasta dish! Love those big, thicc bucatini noodles. Flavorful bolognese, great texture from the gremolata, and just cheesy enough to make this probably the most complete dish of the night. Then finally the Sea Scallops (ramp soubise, morel mushrooms, house-cured pancetta). Scallops were scored and cooked to look like fine art. Light scallops paired with nice umami from the morels and the pancetta, all tied together by that nice soubise. You don't see that very often either. We ended the meal with a Sticky Toffee Pudding (apple & date cake, apple brandy toffee, crème chantilly, marcona almond tuile). Chef's kiss. Such a delicate sponge with a nice date flavor. Then boom, the sweet boozy toffee, the creamy chantilly, the texture from the tuile. Every element helped make this a great dessert to end a great meal. Overall, another very pleasant surprise. This was a very good dinner, and I'll definitely come back if I'm ever in St. Louis again.

I had my first dinner of my stay at Olive + Oak, and it blew me away from the moment I laid my eyes on it. From the unsuspecting street outside, the giant windows glow with the warm, sparkling light from within. An elegant dining room with a beautiful bar and a good amount of hustle and bustle. I felt like I was at an upscale New Orleans joint. Very cozy. Service was just as beautiful. Our server was extremely nice, new the menu backwards and forwards, and rattled off the nightly specials without hesitation. And on top of all of that, when we were getting some stuff to-go, she threw in more bread for us! You can't train that level of service. That's just a good person. Onto the food. We started off with the Blue Crab Gratin (calabrian chili, celery + pretzel bread). This was ooey, gooey, cheesy, delicious, had a fair amount of crab in it, had a nice little kick, and the sliced, crunchy pretzel bread dippers were exquisite. Something seasonal that isn't on their menu anymore, we ordered an Okonomiyaki, which is a savory Japanese pancake, basically, covered in sauce. Wow, this thing was done well. Very reminiscent of the authentic thing I've had in Japan. Very nice. Another dish that isn't on the menu anymore, the Catfish dish. It was slightly Asian and on top of some sort of risotto rice. I can't remember exactly, but I do remember that it was very well cooked, had a nice char. An eclectic dish that came together very nicely. I also got to try some of the Rabbit Crepe (port wine braised rabbit, blueberry, fennel, arugula + kenny's bleu gouda crepe). Some people might shudder at the idea of eating rabbit. Those people need to grow up. Rabbit is one of the most succulent, delicious meats out there, and in this wonderful flavor combination, in a crepe. This chef is genius. I could have downed two of these things. We finished off the night with the recommended Cloud Cake (vanilla chiffon cake, coconut pastry cream, coconut + whipped cream icing). This thing was de-ca-dent. A nice, thicc sponge, a very coconuty cream, and a whipped icing with lots of coconut pulp in it. So heavenly. Overall, my socks were blown off. Not only does St. Louis have good food, this was a better meal than I had in Nashville and Kansas City. Who would have guessed. I would love to come back.
