A dark and moody bar that delivers both quick service and extremely well balanced drinks. The menu was varied. I particularly liked the Buddha's Dream. The Butterflies and Bees was out of this world and made for an excellent shot (though I wished I had gotten it as a drink because it was so tasty!)

It's always a treat to stop by one of my favorite hole-in-the-wall bars. A dark, cozy and romantic setting, The owner, Ed, is always on point with his drinks. His employee was quick to seat us. I ordered the Ipanema girl and it was a delightful pink color, sweet and tart in taste and very refreshing. Lovely garnishes and water on the side made a cold evening a little warmer.

An absolute gem of a place. I was recently introduced to Pagan within the last year and am kicking myself for not making it here sooner. I think the thing I love the most about Pagan is that it is super low key, yet elevated. It's one door in a building off of Euclid and the sign is a bit hard to spot. When you walk in, it's a dark/ cozy vibe with low lighting and lots of trinkets around. There is bar seating, tables, and comfy seats. It's a pretty small spot, so I recommend coming early. They have servers, so sit down and relax and enjoy yourself :) I've been several times, but this time in particular I ordered their martini. I've only ever gotten wine here, and am so happy I finally got a cocktail. It was amazing. More of a lime/ citrus base than your typical martini. Loved it! It's great to go with friends or on a date night: highly recommend!

Amazing service and wine. Subtracting a star because there is no toilet paper holder in the bathroom, you must use the germ infested toilet paper roll that sits on the bathroom cuck chair.

Delicious craft drinks, the staff is very friendly and helpful! Great and chill vibes. Best place to get unique drinks and hangout with friends without it being crazy loud and busy around the CWE.

A new friend took me to what has become of St. Louis' mystery bookstore. Yes, I know Big Sleep Books took on the big sleep years ago, but I celebrate how worthy its successor is to share that space now that I've finally been there. While it's called "Pagan," think "sinful Victorians/Edwardians, with Halloween touches here and there". But "Pagan" more succinctly communicates that. Pagan is dark, kinda loud, but also intimate. No food here. Just cocktails... great cocktails. The best I've had in St. Louis and possibly anywhere. I ordered from... was it the "decadent" menu page? The page with the sweet options. This place has low online presence. We failed to find a menu as we discussed the cocktails we ordered. But one of my drinks had green tea and a dragon was illustrated on top. Pretty neat! I look forward to bringing several friends to Pagan!

My boyfriend and I loved this place! Perfect for our date. The low lighting and building pictures on the wall really set the mood. The staff were very helpful and fast. The drinks were really cool. Especially the drink with the dragon.

Its own world, dimly lit, intimate setting great for 2-4 people. There is space for a larger group but would recommend smaller numbers. I got the Pagan Martini which I highly recommend. I typically do a dry martini but really liked the flavor and balance of this martini. Service is helpful--very friendly and try to get you in quickly. I put 4 instead of 5 stars because I think the drinks are overpriced.

This is a unique spot that can hold a candle to Maryland House or Brennan's. We arrived to a blue lighted, dark room with couches and ample seating for the taking. It is a perfect spot for larger groups as there were 6 of us. Much to our surprise this cozy spot is under the guise of a wine bar but actually has uniquely crafted cocktails that are well balanced and go down very smoothly. There is definitely a drink for everyone - even the stubborn beer lovers We were quickly served and our server was very nice and knowledgeable. This is a great spot!

Our time at Pagan and their *new* bar Silk Road was amazing. We always go to Pagan, but Silk Road blew us away. The lounge is right next door with elevated and creative cocktails you can find anywhere else. Our drinks were fresh with unique flavors. Staff is always so friendly with an exceptional owner who is often back behind the bar himself. You must try this place!

Incredible everything, from the door man to the bartender you can tell the people here care and are invested in what they are doing here. You can feel the team atmosphere amongst the employees making the environment really feel like you are important as a customer. No food, as a hungry guy I will be leaving to get a snack but the delicious well thought out drinks make up for any lack of snack available.

Girls night - cute intimate bar for a great catch up with friends!

Heard about it from a friend & truly a hidden gem in the heart of Central West End! The cocktail menu has it all - anything from classics to wines from a variety of regions! I got a martini and it did not disappoint. My girl friends also joined in on the cocktail fun and got a couple classics!! Pretty small & intimate lounge - does open "later" a great place to grab a night cap after dinner in the area! We sat at the bar and enjoyed learning more from the bartender about the background of the "birth" of the Pagen bar!! Also service was great with offering his cocktail favorites!! Love the mysterious vibes & theme even flows into the menu well!! Great place for a date night or friend catch up!!

    Happy birthday ash!!

Drinks are phenomenal and the bar is cozy and the perfect hangout spot. It's very hard to get into because the space is pretty intimate, but if you do manage to get a spot it's such a great experience!

'ssippi is a new(ish) wine bar set towards the western end of the collection of bars, restaurants, and shops that are the heart of the strip. The inside has a large wrap about bar and some limited seating. There is a very good selection of wine and mixed drinks and an okay selection of beer. The prices are reasonable. There is a very limited food menu which largely consists of snacks rather than proper entrees. So this is a great pre/post drink spot rather than somewhere you would spend an evening. The bartenders were fine. Nothing stood out either in a good or bad way. The mixed drink my wife had was very good. The orange wine I had was good, a bit on the dry side but overall no complaints from either of us. Without a highlight of the spot is the large patio. It is mostly taken up by large bench style seating. So you have to be okay sitting next to strangers. I actually enjoy these types of settings and I ended up chatting up the group to our right. There are a couple tables but they are few and far between. There are some overhead canopies and lights, and there was a nice vibe and energy. I was there and it was crowded. I really enjoyed it. Just two additional things to note. The bathroom line was very long. It must only be one stall. The entire time I was there it was a dozen people deep. The only other downside is that my wife and I felt old. The vibe on a late(ish) Saturday night was mainly 20 year olds. If I was in grad school or a recent graduate I would absolutely adore this place. Even if your 30s this probably is a good vibe. Once you hit 40 though you may feel a bit out of place on busy nights (or it will make you feel young again!)

Versatile, knows…read morehow to treat yo' self, equally at home in yoga pants, ready for a backwoods adventure or dressed to the nines, and doesn't blink at any version of you that walks through the door. That's the vibe. We started on the front patio on a Friday night and quickly realized we'd made a mistake. The doors to the interior were open and the music -- a rock-forward playlist that night -- was loud enough that we considered bailing. Our server, was unbothered when we asked to move up to the rooftop. Where we met with a new bartender and server, London, who rolled with it, got us resettled, and from that point on the night was great. London was clearly handling the bar and most of the rooftop tables, but she was attentive throughout, and made eye contact, which seems a near miracle from many 20-something these days. Bumping the score up just for the flexibility on the table move alone. The food: crab cakes were genuinely good, not life-changing, but well above the weak-crab-cake bar that exists in most of the world, served simply with capers and a small salad. I went off-script and ordered the wagyu burger medium rare with fontina (London mentioned cheddar is the more common pick, but the Fontina offerd a great alternative). The burger was deeply flavorful and cooked exactly right, but here's my one real note for the kitchen: toast the brioche bun. Wagyu medium-rare puts out a lot of juice, and an untoasted bun loses its structural integrity about three bites in. A quick toast would let the bun keep some additional integrate and keep up with the perfectly cooked beef. The pom buff were great, the best elevated patato tots you may come by. Beyond what we ordered, the Greek salad is a longtime go-to -- chopped, with grape leaves and pita, available in a small or large, and easily dressed up into a light meal with or without adding some protein or can be share as a self-dress bruschetta appetizer for the group if you ask for extra bread. The cheese boards are also a reliable pick. The wine list is extensive (it's a wine bar, after all), but they don't sniff at cocktails -- I had a solid fine old fashioned, and my wife shared had a Malbec that paired well with everything. Lots of gluten-free options across the menu, too. What Sasha's gets right is that it has refused to become precious. "Wine bar" reads as pretentious to some people, but this place runs as a neighborhood spot. You'll see college kids dressed way down, couples on dates dressed way up, Hawaiian shirts, oversized sweaters, the full range. It's the kind of place where you can split a bottle with your girlfriends, meet a date for drinks and a quick bite without committing to a full dinner, or roll in for brunch on the weekend. Different times of day, different vibes -- always approachable. 4.7 stars. Loses a few tenths for the front-patio music situation and the weak burger bun, but more than makes up for it on flexibility, food, and overall hang factor.

There were a few open tables, but we were asked to wait by the door while they "got situated." Meanwhile, a walk-in who arrived after us was seated at a table we had been waiting for. When we were finally seated, we were placed in direct sun. I asked if we could move to a shaded table in the corner and was told it was only for parties of three. After explaining we'd just be there briefly for a drink, we were allowed to sit there, but the interaction felt dismissive. From that point on, the experience felt rushed. We were pushed to order quickly, our menus were taken right away, and the check came almost immediately. It made what should have been a relaxed stop feel uncomfortable and transactional. I understand how busy restaurants can get, especially on nice days, but a little more consideration and courtesy would have gone a long way.

I had my first dinner of my stay at Olive + Oak, and it blew me away from the moment I laid my eyes on it. From the unsuspecting street outside, the giant windows glow with the warm, sparkling light from within. An elegant dining room with a beautiful bar and a good amount of hustle and bustle. I felt like I was at an upscale New Orleans joint. Very cozy. Service was just as beautiful. Our server was extremely nice, new the menu backwards and forwards, and rattled off the nightly specials without hesitation. And on top of all of that, when we were getting some stuff to-go, she threw in more bread for us! You can't train that level of service. That's just a good person. Onto the food. We started off with the Blue Crab Gratin (calabrian chili, celery + pretzel bread). This was ooey, gooey, cheesy, delicious, had a fair amount of crab in it, had a nice little kick, and the sliced, crunchy pretzel bread dippers were exquisite. Something seasonal that isn't on their menu anymore, we ordered an Okonomiyaki, which is a savory Japanese pancake, basically, covered in sauce. Wow, this thing was done well. Very reminiscent of the authentic thing I've had in Japan. Very nice. Another dish that isn't on the menu anymore, the Catfish dish. It was slightly Asian and on top of some sort of risotto rice. I can't remember exactly, but I do remember that it was very well cooked, had a nice char. An eclectic dish that came together very nicely. I also got to try some of the Rabbit Crepe (port wine braised rabbit, blueberry, fennel, arugula + kenny's bleu gouda crepe). Some people might shudder at the idea of eating rabbit. Those people need to grow up. Rabbit is one of the most succulent, delicious meats out there, and in this wonderful flavor combination, in a crepe. This chef is genius. I could have downed two of these things. We finished off the night with the recommended Cloud Cake (vanilla chiffon cake, coconut pastry cream, coconut + whipped cream icing). This thing was de-ca-dent. A nice, thicc sponge, a very coconuty cream, and a whipped icing with lots of coconut pulp in it. So heavenly. Overall, my socks were blown off. Not only does St. Louis have good food, this was a better meal than I had in Nashville and Kansas City. Who would have guessed. I would love to come back.

We arrived right on time for our reservation, stood for quite a few minutes in a half-empty house before being seated, then waited a very long time between visits from our apparently over-stretched waitstaff. Food was middle of the road. A smoked sirloin sandwich was tasty, though rather well-done. And the order of "salmon cakes", which the menu says is made of "smoked salmon, roast corn, tomato, cucumber, creme fraiche, and capers" was in fact just one cake (not cakes!), smaller than a hockey puck (about 1/2" thick max) and seemed to be made of canned fish, not the bright orange of smoked salmon. Of course it didn't help that the kitchen was closed, so we had no food to go with it. The drink itself was smoky, so smoky that it overpowered the rest of the ingredients in the drink, although I tasted hints of violet. Overall, the experience could have been better. I'm willing to give this place another shot, but maybe at a different time when it's not so busy.

Our server was so sweet with giving us suggestions and ensuring we enjoyed all of our food. She checked back frequently and was so fun. We got the truffle fries, bread with dipping oil, and carpaccio to start. All of it was PACKED with flavor. Of the apps, the carpaccio was my fave. It was thinly sliced and the capers gave little bursts of extra flavor in each bite. For our entree, we got the lemon ricotta ravioli and the emo cover band pizza. The ravioli was an INSTANT fave. Super butter, fresh and light. A great place for a date night!

If you like a gorgeous and unique bar area with amazing old school touches - yes. This is the place. If you like parking in a garage that was built before your grandparents were born- yes this place is for you. However- we had a lot of trouble with service. I don't know why but every time our waitress walked by our table, regardless of our "excuse us ma'am's " we were ignored. This is a real shame because we plan on eating dinner and having another drink, but after 45 minutes we had to leave and go somewhere else.
