Hard to believe it had been eight years since I last dined at Olive + Oak. During the summer of 2018, I was working in St. Louis and had several occasions to dine there. Since then, Olive + Oak has moved to its current location, which is spacious, airy and filled with light. And somehow, our experience last night was even better than what I remembered. I was having dinner with three friends I used to work with, and Abby, our server, was outstanding from start to finish. I arrived first and had a chance to chat with her before everyone else got there. Her energy and personality immediately stood out, and I knew she was going to be a hit with our group. Hard to believe she has been at Olive + Oak for only six months. She kept taking care of us throughout the evening. She really wanted us to try the grilled carrots, so she brought us an order on the house. Later, one of the managers stopped by with wine glasses and poured us some wine, also compliments of the restaurant. Those unexpected touches made an already great evening even more memorable. With four of us, we were able to explore quite a bit of the menu. We started with the Chicken Wings, Charred Octopus and Lion's Mane Steak. All three were distinctive and delicious. The Fried Green Tomato Salad was enormous, easily enough for all four of us to share, and packed with flavor. We learned it was leaving the menu after that night, so our timing was pretty good. For my entrée, I had the Grilled Flank Steak with crispy Parmesan potatoes, along with a side of Olive + Oak fries. Incredible. The fries were world-class, and Abby even tracked down some barbecue sauce for me to dunk them in. And those Grilled Carrots Abby insisted we try? Wow! Definitely one of the surprises of the night. We finished by sharing two new desserts, the Cloud Cake and Samoa Cookie Cake. Both were super delicious and a great way to end the meal. We ultimately spent more than three hours at Olive + Oak, and never once felt rushed. We were there to reconnect, tell stories and enjoy being together again. Great food certainly mattered, but the warm, attentive service made the evening even better. Eight years was way too long between visits. While a friend of mine was in town visiting, we met up for a quick little HH at O+O and it was perfection. We arrived right when they opened at 4 pm and were seated right away on the patio. Was it strange to be some of the first guests to arrive? Yes. But it was also nice to have the full attention of our server who was great! He told us all about the specials and talked us through some of the drinks that he enjoys. Since I shared that I was not currently drinking alcohol, he made a few mocktail recommendations and I loved how he was able to "sell" them to me. I went with a class G&T mocktail and my friend went with a mezcal drink based on his recommendations. We also ordered 2 of the apps to just have at the table while we chatted. The mocktail I had really did hit the spot and my friend really enjoyed her cocktail as well. The hummus we ordered witht he veggies was so good and we also had a potato app that was truly such a unique flavor with creme fraiche and walnuts. Found this little gem in Webster Groves....great location, groovy & upbeat vibe, fantastic cocktails, plus excellent food. I'd recommend if you're going with a party, share a bunch of the plates. Pizza is solid...crust is wood fired, sauce is perfect and unique creations make for a special type of pizza. Had the morel mushroom pasta (a special selection), the Brussel sprouts as an app, broccolini, a salad and it was perfect. Don't forget the bread & olive oil...it is to die for. Plenty of unique and crafty libations tie the entire experience all together. Place is busy on a Saturday night, so recommend a reservation. I'll be back over and over again. This place is amazing! Been a while since I've been back, for no other reason than proximity, but I found it was well worth the drive. Started with golden beet carpaccio...WHAT! Yes this was quite the treat. Would go back for this alone. Then the grilled or roasted oysters were subtly Off the HOOK! So good I think I ate them all before I remembered to snap a pic. Then tried the Lions Mane steak which actually looked and tasted like marinated flack steak with a much better bite. They actually marinade the lions mane steaks cut about a half inch thick in the same marinade that they do their flank steak and then even add a little beet juice so that it looks medium rare in the middle, which is amazing.! Such a wonderful upscale restaurant in Webster Groves! I love the big windows and natural light throughout the restaurant. They have a great happy hour (bar only) and seasonal menu that rotates relatively often! The crab appetizer is really good, as well as the cheese curds! They make great salads as well. Came here for a work event and was blown away by the space: very modern American, spacious, tons of natural light, and beautiful big indoor plants. The bartenders were super friendly, and they gave great recommendations. I tried several sweet cocktails and mocktails, all delicious. Staff kept the tables clean all night, took away plates and glasses quickly. Food wise, the falafel was excellent and tasty and crispy, the tartare dishes were really good, and the charcuterie board was stunning! One of the prettiest grazing boards I've seen. I have to be honest with you. I didn't know anything about St. Louis before I visited here for a few days. I certainly wasn't expecting the food scene to be so excellent. I had my first dinner of my stay at Olive + Oak, and it blew me away from the moment I laid my eyes on it. From the unsuspecting street outside, the giant windows glow with the warm, sparkling light from within. An elegant dining room with a beautiful bar and a good amount of hustle and bustle. I felt like I was at an upscale New Orleans joint. Very cozy. Service was just as beautiful. Our server was extremely nice, new the menu backwards and forwards, and rattled off the nightly specials without hesitation. And on top of all of that, when we were getting some stuff to-go, she threw in more bread for us! You can't train that level of service. That's just a good person. Onto the food. We started off with the Blue Crab Gratin (calabrian chili, celery + pretzel bread). This was ooey, gooey, cheesy, delicious, had a fair amount of crab in it, had a nice little kick, and the sliced, crunchy pretzel bread dippers were exquisite. Something seasonal that isn't on their menu anymore, we ordered an Okonomiyaki, which is a savory Japanese pancake, basically, covered in sauce. Wow, this thing was done well. Very reminiscent of the authentic thing I've had in Japan. Very nice. Another dish that isn't on the menu anymore, the Catfish dish. It was slightly Asian and on top of some sort of risotto rice. I can't remember exactly, but I do remember that it was very well cooked, had a nice char. An eclectic dish that came together very nicely. I also got to try some of the Rabbit Crepe (port wine braised rabbit, blueberry, fennel, arugula + kenny's bleu gouda crepe). Some people might shudder at the idea of eating rabbit. Those people need to grow up. Rabbit is one of the most succulent, delicious meats out there, and in this wonderful flavor combination, in a crepe. This chef is genius. I could have downed two of these things. We finished off the night with the recommended Cloud Cake (vanilla chiffon cake, coconut pastry cream, coconut + whipped cream icing). This thing was de-ca-dent. A nice, thicc sponge, a very coconuty cream, and a whipped icing with lots of coconut pulp in it. So heavenly. Overall, my socks were blown off. Not only does St. Louis have good food, this was a better meal than I had in Nashville and Kansas City. Who would have guessed. I would love to come back. read more

I couldn't wait to get out of there and be done with it all. Overall, my recent dining experience here felt like it was a chore just so I could use up my chase sapphire reserve credit. In town from Houston to met my family - Olive + Oak was able to accommodate- even when we increased from 6 to 7. We appreciated their flexibility and ability to accommodate under short notice. Really enjoyed the dinner & food. Bread was slow coming to the table on this busy night but, nothing unusual during the busy holiday season. The ambiance overall was beautiful. I selected the gaucho steak & my fiancé ordered the goat ragu. The rest of the family was each able to find something to meet their palette including my sister who's vegetarian & gluten intolerant. The steak was cooked perfectly. It did not come with any veggies which felt a little odd. A couple asparagus to the side would have rounded out the meal but, the flavor was there for the steak. For my birthday this year, I wanted to try a "progressive dinner," and do three stops (apps, entree, dessert at separate locations)--Olive + Oak was our first stop last night. We ordered from their current house cocktails (unfortunately I missed which numbers, and can't seem to get the menu to pull up on their website at the moment)--and loved both. The one pictured in the pineapple had a nice spice and the other was sweet and delicious! We tried the Blue Crab Gratin which was well worth the price. Very crab-forward and decadent--the pretzel crisps that came with it were perfection. We followed that with some raw oysters (mix of east and west) which had every accompaniment you could ever want. They were fresh and high quality. I missed taking a photo, unfortunately. Our server (unfortunately missed her name) was a dream. She checked in with us appropriately and was very professional and kind. The ambiance was perfect--airy and comfortable, but not overly bright. The high ceilings and enormous windows were lovely and made the space feel super special. There were families but it was still a comfortable volume, definitely still amazing for a quiet date night. From the moment you walk in the doors you are greeted with an earthy green space. We made reservations, which I highly recommend, so we were seated immediately. Our server was extremely attentive and ensured that we had everything we could possibly need. The food was superb. Highly recommend the cheese curds!! Celebrated a friend's birthday here last night and the entire experience was spectacular!! For starters, I ordered a trio of oysters - the west coast (my fav), roasted, and fire roasted oysters - definitely can't go wrong here.. yum! I also split a Caesar salad and the crumble with the dressing paired so well. The beef tartare was also ordered and they enjoyed it! For entrees, I had the waitress surprise me. She brought the buttonwood farms chicken! It was different and something I've never tried before. Good and unique! Other entrees that were ordered: the beef tenderloin, prime cowboy ribeye, the burger, and the halibut. Every dish got a glowing review! I snagged a bite of the steak and it was so so delicious! Also, don't skip the fries with the house sauce.. a very important tip. While everyone else ordered dessert to go, I decided to end with the coconut kiss martini. I had no idea this spot existed. What a beautiful event space. I recently went to an event there for Grassroots Redeeming Love and the set up was so awesome. The bar is in the back and they have a very good stage for presenting. O+O is just so top notch in our community. Their food and drinks are amazing and the vibe is incredible. I finally got a chance to come to this restaurant. It was everything I expected and more! I had to get a 9:30 PM reservation because there was nothing available earlier and I can see why. The place was buzzing inside and out. There was a bar set up outside on the curb... I didn't know if there was a special event going on or what but the inside reminded me of a restaurant I would see on the show The Bear on Hulu! I love the way it was set up, I loved the Long bar in the back of the restaurant and how open it was. The scene was comfortable, and the service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and made a lot of good recommendations. You could tell she knew the menu. Speaking of the menu, I attempted to get everything on the right side of the menu because I was hungry lol. We started with the wings, which were absolutely awesome, seasoned to perfection. We also had some oysters and wanted to try multiple versions. We tried the Rockefeller, roasted, and the fried. All were excellent. I had the flank steak and my sister had the grilled salmon. I also had the brussels sprouts which were good but not the best that I've had but it wasn't bad enough to change the rating of the restaurant. I am absolutely coming back for happy hour really soon. We tried the blue crab gratin dip and it was delicious. For entrees my husband had one of the fish dishes and I had the burger and fries. The fries were some of the best I have had- super crispy and very well seasoned. The burger was great too. For dessert, they brought out the banana bread with a candle. Mains were oversalted and the crust on the burger tasted more burnt than anything. Brussel side was meh. Asparagus was ok. Rabbit main was oversalted and I bit into a bone fragment. The owners founded the Ollie Hinkle Heart Foundation and they give away little felt hearts and sell larger hearts you will see around - especially on houses in Webster. Besides being connected to a wonderful organization and locally owned - the food, service, and ambiance are fantastic. I always get the burger (and add bacon, trust me) with their seasoned fries - my fave burger in STL! They are touted to have amazing oysters and other fancier fare as well. Fantastic dining experience at Olive + Oak. The dining room is clean, bright and modern. Everyone we encountered from host to server to bussing staff was very pleasant. We started with cheese curds. These are NOT your average chewy greasy fried cheese, but very light and with the faintest hint of sweetness in the crisp coating, served with a nice dipping sauce. My entree was the delicious crunchy-coated swordfish served on jasmine rice with a good variety of vegetables and ginger. I chose the smoky collard greens as a side and they were delicious. Maybe a bit saltier than necessary, but still nice. This was definitely an elevated yet casual dinner. The menu is unique and varied. Clearly well thought out and prepared with care. First and foremost, yes we go out to dinner to celebrate, to share good food, and enjoy good company. But, I must give props to our server Sam. He was phenomenal. Patient, respectful, knowledgable. He was an incredible host that did everything in his power to make us feel right at home. Olive + Oak is home to a lot of hype. Now that I have officially eaten here, the hype is understated. This place is beautiful. The interior is seamlessly elegant. It feels like you're surrounded by business meetings and anniversary dinners. But, not in a stuffy, uptight way. In more of a the masses run to this place because of how smooth, sleek, and peaceful it is. It is intimate, but lively. The food is insane. I had the chicken a la king which is basically a deconstructed (or reverse) chicken pot pie. Wonderfully umami with the mushrooms. The gravy is a bit acidic and the chicken was tender and juicy. The thick slice of union loafers sourdough absorbs all of the gravy sending you on a flavor filled journey with every bite. The tomahawk was insane. Melts in your mouth with a beautiful butter to complement. Don't let the price tag run you off, it is a must order. Oh, and the barrage of crispy, seasoned fries are incredible. Salty, savory, and when dipped in the malt vinegar aioli: bliss. Everything we ate was superb. I can't wait to get back and try their dip. It looks absolutely beautiful.
