Came for Happy Hour with friends after a play. Both our food and drinks were really good. The service was great and we enjoyed the QUIET ambiance. There was music playing, but it was low. Kudos for THAT! The meatballs were good, but the Patata Arrabbiata was the SLEEPER. Super tasty!!!

This review is based on their happy hour- their aperitivio, aka the happiest of hours! 4-6pm Sunday & Tuesday-Friday! Saw that they had a happy hour when walking by a few weeks ago and decided to try it. It was amazing! We walked in on a Friday at 4 with no reservation and had the choice of inside or outside. Outside you have the ambiance of Old Webster and inside is elevated, sleek, and warm. The entire wait staff was so friendly and attentive! The hostess was a ray of sunshine- the bartender took our orders and made our drink, another gentleman served us and our check was given to us by a manager. This was a cohesive waitstaff- truly awesome! We got a round of spritz' (Hugo) for $7 and pizzas for $9. It was a great deal and very delicious! The happy hour menu was extensive between the drinks and food and I am excited to be back for completely different things to order. Another thing I appreciated about Madrina was that I felt like I was back in Italy. Calling happy hour aperitivo is a nice touch, but even moreso we were there for at least an hour after we stopped ordering things and not once did they rush us out- we requested the check just like in Italy. I think this was intentional as well since the service was so attentive throughout the entire experience. Excited to be back! (For happy hour as I have heard that the regular dining menu can get pricey quickly)

Got there for Happy Hour which they have on a Sunday. That was a perfect menu for us with charcuterie, small bites with enough choices to make a light meal. Liked the drink menu offering beer, wine cocktails and, my favorite, spritzs. Great service and upscale but not haughty or over the top. Upscale comfort with the noise level just right!

Met some friends for happy hour. Nice menu assortment of discounted treats and drinks. I had pizza and wine which is never a bad thing. I had the spicy sausage pizza w mix cheese and honey and my companion had the margarita pizza. Tasty! We had attentive service that was really good. The ambiance of the room at night is very moody and sexy. It's a very pretty room, lovely change from the CJ MUGGS, space which was tired. I'd come back. It was enjoyable!

Sad to say, I was not really that impressed. As we experienced their Happy Hour the phrase, "Lipstick on a Pig" came to mind. They tried to create an upscale look and feel with their ambiance, but the product and service fell short. I'll start off by saying, they have a good Happy Hour with vey affordable pricing on classic cocktails. I was able to enjoy three of my all-time favorites; Black Manhattan, Martini and Old Fashioned (they call theirs, Italian Fashioned). All three of them were made well and I was impressed with the glassware and stemware they were served in. My friend drank Prosecco and it was served in a fluted glass. The major disappointment was with our food order. I ordered the Calamari and it was very bland. Hardly any flavor at all. The Buttermilk Herb Dressing, really didn't help much with the taste. I was disappointed that they were mainly just small rings, just tossed into a bowl. There were really only two nice sized pieces of pure calamari. Our other food item was one of their pizzas. We choose, Finocchiona. The Fennel Salami, Tomato and Mozzarella were great toppings, but the thin limp crust made it fall short. If the pizza is going to be STL Thin crust, it needs to be crisp. We both got a good giggle, because almost at the same time we both said, could this be a frozen pizza. It just did not have that freshly made taste. Other things I liked, Linen Napkins, Hooks Under The Bar and Gender Neutral Bathroom. Sad to say, I probably will not be returning. I came, marked it off my bucket list and it is time to move on. Wish them well.

My friend loves this place and said it was a bit off tonite after our meal. That said, here's our experience - the place had a fabulous vibe, decor, lighting, comfortable seating. Service was tremendous. From the host and hostess to our server to every staff member we encountered they were attentive, responsive, professional and friendly. Onto the food. We had a party of 5 and it was a 50-50 evening with half of our party rating the food a 4, the other 3-3.5. Highlights - arancini, calamari (though it should come with marinara - we had to ask for some), Mayfair salad, pollo piccata. The two friends who gave less than a 4 had the bolognese and the raviolo. I had the veal Parmesan which was huge (two meals worth). The veal was a little overdone - so it need more sauce for moisture. It was served with pasta which was nicely al dente but lacked anything much, the side of arugula was nice. All dishes were beautifully presented. For dessert we shared with limoncello sorbet and all gave it 5 stars - generous portion, perfectly tart and not too sweet, more elevated flavor than your usual lemon sorbet. We had a lovely even despite everyone not loving their dishes.

My husband and I made a reservation for a Wednesday evening- it was about half full when we arrived but cleared out quickly. I had the filet, he had the bolenese pasta. The food was delicious and the bread service is a must. The patio doors were all open, and the ambiance was wonderful! We will be back again

My wife and I were bummed when CJ Mugg's closed in Old Webster, but curious to try the restaurant that replaced it. We finally made that choice for Valentine's Day dinner last night, and we don't regret it. Madrina did a wonderful job renovating the space to create an elegant romantic atmosphere with warm low lighting and a soundtrack of pop standards. Service was very attentive and accommodating - despite the holiday crowd size, we never had to wait long for a water refill or a check in our cocktails (both of which were smooth, unique, and delicious). We split a house salad to start - I'm not typically a huge fan of this particular salad style, but really enjoyed the taste and texture of the artichoke hearts (which are very hit-or-miss to my palate). For the main course, we both ordered medium filets. The preparation felt a bit closer to medium-rare for my taste, but still satisfying and the accompanying roasted mushrooms and béarnaise sauce were excellent compliments to the steaks. The rich aroma of other pastas and seafood filled the dining room, and I'm curious to explore more of the menu on a future date night. Madrina made for a pleasant Valentine's Day dinner, and I'd recommend giving them a try next time you're in Webster Groves.

This was something that has become hard to find. Upscale restaurant that the food, service, and location justify pricing! Dark old school interior vibe. Good menu selections and great service. Will be back!

Putting this place to 4 stars for now. Starting off with the food, we ordered the fire roasted oysters and calamari as a starter. Oysters had great flavor but I wish they could've been a little bigger in size. Calamari being fresh cut was decent, sauce helped a good bit with the flavor. Moving to the main course, we ordered the steak and sides of the potato's, Brussels sprouts, and broccolini. Definitely enjoyed all the sides especially the Brussels sprouts and fire roasted broccolini. The steak had great flavor but was a little more rare than what we have preferred, but I have no complaint about that, I'd rather be a bit under done than overdone. Then we got tiramisu for dessert which was good, no complaints there as well. Service was great, attentive staff and very helpful. We were in a dinner rush so service to us was a bit slow in the beginning which was very understandable, but got better as the night went on. Ambiance of the store was nice, definitely a nice place for a date night. Only complaint was that the 2 person tables were super small. Luckily we didn't have any extra stuff on the table at that time. Price is on the higher side so prepare yourself on that. All in all we had a good experience and would definitely be going back to try the other menu items. Would recommend trying!

At first, I wasn't all that impressed but the place was super new. We gave it a few more months for the place to work its kinks out. Lo and behold, our most recent visit ended on a high note as far as the food, the service, and the atmosphere. *chef's kiss all over* Our recent visit in November was on a Friday night. It wasn't super busy when we got in but as the night progressed, we started noticing that the place was quickly filling up. On that note, if dining here over the weekend, you should probably make reservations. We started with some misto fritto - lightly battered crispy shrimp, calamari, artichokes, and fennel served with Buttermilk herb dressing. The serving was huge and the flavor did not disappoint. Needless to say, it was a fabulous start to our dinner. I ended up ordering the prime ribeye during this meal and it was fantastic. I clearly over-ordered but the leftover was just as tasty the next day! Then I had some cannoli to end the dinner with. The rest of our meal went really well and the service was fabulous. What I've had during my other visit - Mayfair salad with prosciutto and Mayfair dressing was lovely and had so much flavor. Linguini con vognole - I generally like pasta with clam but wasn't sure about this one. It wasn't bad but not my favorite. Tiramisu was divine and a great way to end your evening, no question! Because of how impressed I was with my most recent experience here, I have to give it 5 stars. It truly was wonderful and the food was excellent. If you've never been, you should give Madrina try! It is a fantastic addition to the Webster dining scene. I can't wait to go back and enjoy their other menu options.

We enjoyed happy hour at the bar at Madrina for a little girls night. The service at the bar was impeccable, they were so attentive and nice. We were specifically convinced to do happy hour because of the pizzas and spritzes on the menu! The overall vibe of this restaurant is very high end and nice. Great date night spot for sure. It felt intimate and had lots of big and nice windows. The arancini was very good, I loved the marinara sauce. They had very cute dishes and glassware as well!

There was a 20-30 minute wait so we found seats at the bar and ordered cocktails. Very good. Very strong. The Block is a great space. Tall ceilings, warm & inviting, perhaps a little low lighting for us challenged folks, but nice, easy to read menus made up for it. A busser brought us water and shortly behind him was Laura-Beth, (our server) with a big smile and menus. After explaining the menu, specials, and taking our drink orders she left us to think about our choices. The menu is a little limited but includes sandwiches as well as entrees including fish option.. Being a "butcher" restaurant we both opted for the ribeye, medium rare. The steak comes only with fries which I ordered while my date went for whipped potatoes. I also went for a side of spinach. We also split a Block Salad as a starter. Choosing to split the Block Salad was a good idea. It was more than enough for two. It was great version of a chopped salad with fresh greens, bacon, smoked ham, egg, house-smoked cheddar, tomatoes, red onion, dressed with just enough buttermilk dressing. Really enjoyed it and just the right amount of salad. Only criticism is not salt and pepper on the table. Probably by design but disappointing. Next came our steaks and sides. We both ordered medium-rare. Her steak was a little under but close enough. My steak was raw in the center. I should have said something but there wasn't so much it was inedible for me. Better under than over! The seasoned fries were good and the whipped potatoes very good were delicious. The fresh spinach was cooked perfect, but under seasoned. All in all, good sides. We finished with Irish Coffee and vanilla ice cream. Kudos to the staff A special thank you to our server Laura-Beth. That's the vibe. We started on the front patio on a Friday night and quickly realized we'd made a mistake. The doors to the interior were open and the music -- a rock-forward playlist that night -- was loud enough that we considered bailing. Our server, was unbothered when we asked to move up to the rooftop. Where we met with a new bartender and server, London, who rolled with it, got us resettled, and from that point on the night was great. London was clearly handling the bar and most of the rooftop tables, but she was attentive throughout, and made eye contact, which seems a near miracle from many 20-something these days. Bumping the score up just for the flexibility on the table move alone. The food: crab cakes were genuinely good, not life-changing, but well above the weak-crab-cake bar that exists in most of the world, served simply with capers and a small salad. I went off-script and ordered the wagyu burger medium rare with fontina (London mentioned cheddar is the more common pick, but the Fontina offerd a great alternative). The burger was deeply flavorful and cooked exactly right, but here's my one real note for the kitchen: toast the brioche bun. Wagyu medium-rare puts out a lot of juice, and an untoasted bun loses its structural integrity about three bites in. A quick toast would let the bun keep some additional integrate and keep up with the perfectly cooked beef. The pom buff were great, the best elevated patato tots you may come by. Beyond what we ordered, the Greek salad is a longtime go-to -- chopped, with grape leaves and pita, available in a small or large, and easily dressed up into a light meal with or without adding some protein or can be share as a self-dress bruschetta appetizer for the group if you ask for extra bread. The cheese boards are also a reliable pick. The wine list is extensive (it's a wine bar, after all), but they don't sniff at cocktails -- I had a solid fine old fashioned, and my wife shared had a Malbec that paired well with everything. Lots of gluten-free options across the menu, too. What Sasha's gets right is that it has refused to become precious. "Wine bar" reads as pretentious to some people, but this place runs as a neighborhood spot. You'll see college kids dressed way down, couples on dates dressed way up, Hawaiian shirts, oversized sweaters, the full range. It's the kind of place where you can split a bottle with your girlfriends, meet a date for drinks and a quick bite without committing to a full dinner, or roll in for brunch on the weekend. Different times of day, different vibes -- always approachable. 4.7 stars. Loses a few tenths for the front-patio music situation and the weak burger bun, but more than makes up for it on flexibility, food, and overall hang factor.
