A one of a kind dive bar that is great for Blues games. Originally a filling station in 1904, it converted into a tavern in the 1930's. Grandfathered with local liquor licensing, TGI almost went extinct in 2010 when longtime owner Frank Rodman passed away (RIP). In 2012 it was purchased by former Blues hockey player Jim Campbell and his wife, Jennifer (a Kirkwood native), who did a thorough refresh and renovation. Jennifer's great uncle actually owned the tavern earlier in the 1960s, so it was a natural return to the family. They have a full bar with reasonably priced drinks. Didn't see a food menu (need to confirm cause looks like maybe they used to) but bar snacks (pretzels and chips). Someone ordered pizza delivered which seemed like a good option. The vibe is like you are inside a house, with couches and a fireplace. They have a small back patio to enjoy nice weather and they do allow smoking outside. For games, there's Golden Tee, a jukebox, and steel tip dart board (which was kinda blocked by Golden Tee). If you happen to be in Kirkwood and feeling thirsty, check it out. I'll definitely be back to watch more Blues Hockey!

We had a good time playing pool and there was a male bartender making our first drinks that was very friendly and conversational. The female bartender made our second round of drinks and was more standoffish as if we didn't fit the "dive bar scene" since we were dressed up a bit. We enjoyed a couple rounds of pool and watching the World Cup game then we left before karaoke was about to start. Bar itself has plenty of seating and nice lighting for the bottles. After learning the story about the owner and the bar, I'm very happy this place is still open but I don't think we'll be back.

It was very loud when we visited, not because of the karaoke, so it was a bit difficult to speak with the bartenders. I guess people were having a good time! There are lots of drink choices at reasonable prices. There is also food, which I didn't try. For the karaoke, you go up to the KJ get into the queue, and then add your songs across the evening for each of your turns. There was quite a variety being sung. You sing in front of the fireplace. There is a little bit of room to dance around the edges but not much. Despite being a "nonsmoking" bar, there were patrons vaping indoors and there was a cigarette smell inside (perhaps wafting in from the smokers outside?). The ladies bathroom was very clean. There is free parking outside in their attached lot, but you might have to get creative if you get there later in the night, as the lot gets crowded. This bar has a fun vibe for your friend group to go blow off some steam, but probably not a good place to take a first date.

When the arrived at 5pm, the place was already getting busy and by 5:15, every inside table was packed. Mondays are something here, with $2 domestic bottled beers and $10 for ten wings. The kitchen was struggling to keep up! When the wings arrived, they were hot and delicious. FBAG is big on "trashed wings" which apparently means that they are fried, sauced, fried AGAIN and sauced again. It makes for a different flavor and they were terrific. The wings were meaty and quite enjoyable, not smothered in sauce. A really neat hangout and I very much enjoyed the time. Well worth a return visit! We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and it was packed. Sports fans watching football on the many screens provided and people just gathering for trashed wings and beer. Sometimes simplicity equals comfort. That's how you'll feel, especially if Chuck the owner is checking in with everyone to make sure the food is good and they are having a good time. The menu is huge with a lot of options, but they are known for their trashed wings (be patient they take a little time to prepare). The fried green beans are so good and salads are huge and delicious. Everyone can find a favorite here. The vibe is local fun. Nothing fancy, nor needed. With a great staff you feel welcome to sit in the various areas inside at the bar, on the enclosed patio, or the outside seating weather permitting. Live bands in the summer- check the website. Great for families! Be prepared to be patient with the service. They do their best, but sometimes the food takes a while to come out of the kitchen.
