It was our monthly night out with our County friends. They chose Sunset 44 Bistro. A quaint little place. Great food with a lot of options. We met Bob at the door. I said" Oh are you the manager"? Boob said " Sort of, Iam the owner". So that is how I met Bob Menendez the owner of Sunset 44. Bob was awesome he showed us to our table. Made sure we were comfortable and then immediately went to set up another table and help a server with a large order getting the food for the table placed in the tight order. A lot of pride in his business and it shows. Thanks Bob!. The food was great I had the pistachio chicken. It was fabulous a blend of sweet creamy sauce not salty but just good mouth feel. I had the house white a good Chardonnay that went well with the chicken. The wine was dry but complimented the dish perfectly. The table bread was a flatbread with a hummus that also paired well together. If you looking for a great meal with great service and an owner who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty. Visit Bob at Sunset 44 for an awesome evening out. I recommend this place for any occasion you will not be disappointed.

Amazing food and exceptional service by Angeline. We were especially impressed when we overheard a nearby table tell the owner how much they appreciated how he always had a to-go bag ready for their elderly mother who had previously been a regular patron. Customers are treated like family here.

I've enjoyed holiday meals at Sunset 44 for the last few years but this was my first time trying the regular menu. A friend and I stopped in for an early dinner before a STAGES show and it was delicious. We shared a very decently priced bottle of wine and ordered salads to start. For dinner, I got the Cajun pasta. It was a huge portion and so delicious! I wish the weather was cooler so I could have taken my leftovers! The pacing of the meal would have been fine on another night, but we had to rush to eat our entrees to finish within the 90 min we had to make the show.

I'm so glad we finally were able to dine-in on Friday. Last year, when restaurants could not have dine-in services, we took a chance and ordered our holiday dinner from Sunset 44 Bistro and we were blown away by the delicious food we took home! Additionally, the person I spoke to on the phone when placing my order was very pleasant and personable and sometimes, the little things can really make or break the experience. On Friday night, I decided to make reservations here. We were able to get a table for 6PM. Parking was a bit tricky but the parking lots by the building actually has signs stating that apartments and restaurant patrons are authorized to park there. When we got in, we were seated immediately. Our waitress, whose name escapes me at the moment was very attentive and pleasant. We started out with some drinks. I had a glass of cabernet and my husband had a beer. Then we ordered some smoked trout to start. We have had their smoked trout before during another curb-side order occasion and we both enjoyed it. Their lavoush are so crisp and perfect to go with the smoked trout. For my main, I ordered a filet mignon medium rare serviced over mashed potato, green beans and some marchand de vin. It was simply amazing! The filet was 6 oz but I could not eat the entire thing. Maybe because I also saved a little bit of room for dessert? Speaking of dessert, I completed our meal with not one but 2 scoops of their homemade peach ice cream served with some whipped cream, sliced peaches and fresh berries. Yum! I was already impressed with Sunset 44 Bistro before actually being able to dine here but our dine-in visit only solidified my love for this wonderful establishment. I cannot wait to come back and dine-in again or pick up a curbside order from this restaurant in the very near future!

    A wonderful main course!

Delightful staff, menu with a good variety of options, all well prepared and an excellent wine list. I'll make Sunset 44 one of the best restaurants in Kirkwood. I had the wedge salad which was uniquely prepared along with the fillet. A delightful bottle of a Napa cab called quilt, 2019 vintage really complemented the meal. Prices for a nice meal were very reasonable.

Had a tremendous Mother's Day here with the parents and in laws. I was impressed by their diverse menu!

Our bartender was very attentive (which was expected as there were only two other couples at the bar). A couple of French 75's and a nice bottle of Rose was just the right choice. We ordered some small plate action starting with stuffed mushrooms, then split the Ensalada One Salad, wings and finished with the always fantastic carnitas fries! If you've never tried the Chili-Rubbed wings, do yourself a favor and go there soon....goodness personified! Everything was delicious and we got to watch some women's collegiate volleyball in TV. Why volleyball? Well....why not? The only detractor from this overall, near perfect experience, was a longer than expected delay in getting those yummy mushrooms. This could be due to a kitchen staffing shortage or the bartender may have forgotten to ring order in....hey, it happens! But once we took that first bite and tasted that boursin cheese, Italian sausage with parmesan inside.....wait, what wait? I'm drooling right now thinking about it. One 19 North is definitely one of our top 3 places to eat in Kirkwood!

I had my first dinner of my stay at Olive + Oak, and it blew me away from the moment I laid my eyes on it. From the unsuspecting street outside, the giant windows glow with the warm, sparkling light from within. An elegant dining room with a beautiful bar and a good amount of hustle and bustle. I felt like I was at an upscale New Orleans joint. Very cozy. Service was just as beautiful. Our server was extremely nice, new the menu backwards and forwards, and rattled off the nightly specials without hesitation. And on top of all of that, when we were getting some stuff to-go, she threw in more bread for us! You can't train that level of service. That's just a good person. Onto the food. We started off with the Blue Crab Gratin (calabrian chili, celery + pretzel bread). This was ooey, gooey, cheesy, delicious, had a fair amount of crab in it, had a nice little kick, and the sliced, crunchy pretzel bread dippers were exquisite. Something seasonal that isn't on their menu anymore, we ordered an Okonomiyaki, which is a savory Japanese pancake, basically, covered in sauce. Wow, this thing was done well. Very reminiscent of the authentic thing I've had in Japan. Very nice. Another dish that isn't on the menu anymore, the Catfish dish. It was slightly Asian and on top of some sort of risotto rice. I can't remember exactly, but I do remember that it was very well cooked, had a nice char. An eclectic dish that came together very nicely. I also got to try some of the Rabbit Crepe (port wine braised rabbit, blueberry, fennel, arugula + kenny's bleu gouda crepe). Some people might shudder at the idea of eating rabbit. Those people need to grow up. Rabbit is one of the most succulent, delicious meats out there, and in this wonderful flavor combination, in a crepe. This chef is genius. I could have downed two of these things. We finished off the night with the recommended Cloud Cake (vanilla chiffon cake, coconut pastry cream, coconut + whipped cream icing). This thing was de-ca-dent. A nice, thicc sponge, a very coconuty cream, and a whipped icing with lots of coconut pulp in it. So heavenly. Overall, my socks were blown off. Not only does St. Louis have good food, this was a better meal than I had in Nashville and Kansas City. Who would have guessed. I would love to come back.
