Your steak arrives on a cart over an open flame, still sizzling and cooked to perfection exactly the way you ordered it. The ribeye cap is especially hard to pass up whenever you see it on the menu. Although the steaks receive much of the attention, Twisted Tree is far more than just a steakhouse. They offer several fish selections, along with pork, pasta, and chicken dishes, and everything is consistently well executed. I once enjoyed an outstanding scallop and risotto special, while also stealing a few bites of steak from my neighbor's plate. The endless house salad is so freaking good that you could honestly order it alone and leave full and happy. The house-made croutons are fantastic, and the two dressings are even better when combined together. Be sure to try the chipotle corn, which is truly unique and absolutely delicious. This is a legit, higher end steakhouse with high ratings and over several years of operation. We made a reservation for a Sat night to celebrate my daughter's birthday and work promotion. The second visit of the new tradition of eating at Twisted Tree with coworkers in town for meetings. We had eight ad we got the same great table in the little alcove as last time. We had a great waiter; he was attentive and helpful throughout the meal. We ordered a table appetizer to share, The Batter Dipped Lobster Bites are a big hit, for good reason! They come on a bed of crispy fries that are great on their own, but the lobster bites are fantastic! Crunchy but not greasy and dipped in the warm butter, yum! I have ordered different things every time I visit, this time I ordered off the chef's plates menu and went with the Steak Frites. Ribeye cap, lounge fries, the same fries as with the Lobster Bites, arugula, citrus herb aioli, and bearnaise butter. The Rib cap is a cut I haven't had before; it reminded me of skirt or flank steak. It was tender and flavorful. I love arugula and this with the citrus herb aioli was great. I would order it again. Charred broccoli was okay - liked the couscous and steak more. Oh my, what a difference! Funny thing about places like this it's hard to stay on top all the time. My favorite lobster bites came out cold (not really cold but lukewarm at best) and sadly that ruined the flavor because they tasted "flat" also tasted unseasoned! First time I was disappointed here. I had an Old Fashioned that was perfectly prepared but in a smaller portion than expected for the size cocktail I think it should be, but it was good. Caesar salad was huge and enough to share, I had to ask twice for anchovy for the genuine Caesar so a ding for that. Ribeye was perfectly prepared and juicy for its medium hot pink center. Loved it. Manager swung by and that was a nice touch. Bread server was a good kid and made an effort in his role which is always good to see. Will definitely return for a special occasion. I'm guessing I caught them on a bad day based on the reviews.......my steak was under cooked and tough. I ordered the New York strip and was severely disappointed. Although I will say that the risotto was insanely good, and I did enjoy the bone marrow. Admittedly, the best part of the meal were my two bourbons lol. They have an excellent selection of bourbon, tequila, and other things. I know a couple things went right, but when you pay over $200 for a meal, I sort of expect everything to be perfect. This was super disappointing, and I honestly can't say if I'll go back or not. I can say this, I know other people who have been there, and they swear by the place, so I'm really hoping I just caught them on a bad night. It's just unfortunate. We visited Twisted Tree on a Wednesday evening, arriving early (around 5:30 PM). While we were seated immediately, the dining room was completely full by 6:30 PM. Even with a full house, being seated in the middle of the large dining area kept the volume manageable and the experience relaxed. The Standouts * The House Salad (4.5/5): My wife and I agree--this is easily one of the best house salads in St. Louis. The ingredients are incredibly fresh, the dressings are clearly homemade, and those croutons are legendary. If you come here and don't order the salad, you're doing it wrong. * Barrel-Aged Manhattan (4.25/5): This was excellent and very well executed. I was actually surprised to find they used Four Roses as the base. While Four Roses is a solid, standard bourbon, it doesn't typically have the aggressive flavor notes of a high-proof or spicy rye. However, those complex flavors were definitely present here, likely a testament to the quality of their house barrel-finishing process. The Entrées: A Mixed Bag Service was friendly and prompt, and our server was great at navigating our menu questions. However, we found the seafood lacked the same "wow" factor as the starters. * Halibut Special (3.5/5): This was served over a black garlic risotto with asparagus. The risotto was the highlight--rich and perfectly executed--and provided a better flavor profile than the other fish dish. * Sea Bass (3/5): While the portion was generous and the fish was fresh, it was crying out for a sauce or more aggressive seasoning. The accompanying kale and squash were unfortunately undercooked and lacked flavor. Experimental Dessert * Red Velvet Cake Bread Pudding (3/5): We are always up for trying something new, but this didn't quite land for us. I just dinned here for my mother in law's birthday and I was blown away to say the least. The food was more than exemplary, especially the lobster bisque, the steak and the ahi tuna. The service was top notch and our server, (I wish I could remember his name), was fantastic and really made us all feel like we dinning amongst royalty. The ambiance was great with intimate lighting, great music at just the right level and the decor was nice as well. Although a bit pricy, I would love a chance to eat here again as once you taste the food, you'll know instantly, that it's worth every penny your spending. It was nicely packed, which is to be expected when you have dry aged steaks so it end up being two seats at the bar so we went to the bar. The ambience was low lit romantic style setting. Fantastic experience. Came here on a date ordered every item on the happy hour menu as well as a manhattan and a spritz. Cocktails were good. The food was solid too especially being only $5 per appetizers. We got prime rib sliders steak bites, crab Rangoon, brisket ravioli, and cheese curds. We had a 3:30pm reservation for a Saturday. We planned for a late lunch, early dinner, after a day shopping in the city. Parking wasn't bad and we found a spot on the side of the building. Once inside, we had only a short wait to be seated, even though we were a little early for the reservation. Everyone was very friendly. Given the time of day, it wasn't very busy and the restaurant was much quieter than usual. Our waiter and his assistant (Justin and Peter) were both great! The family style salad and bread is my favorite here. I really enjoy the house French served with it. I think it has a little kick to it that makes it extra delicious. My husband had the balsamic dressing with his salad, and he really enjoyed it. For the main course, I had the 8 ounce filet with mashed potatoes and asparagus. My husband had the 16 ounce ribeye with mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steaks were ordered medium, and both cooked perfectly! The potatoes were amazing. The asparagus wasn't that great, but I won't even take a star away for it because everything else was delicious! We didn't have room for dessert this time, but I always recommend the wedding cake. Incredible meal! We decided to get the KC strip despite the $70 price tag. It was definitely the best steak I've had. The Brussels were so delicious with the chili oil and Parmesan. Our server was so kind and patient and explained everything well, and made our special occasion even more special. The only complaint i have (and it's a small one) is that I had a reservation for 7pm and we weren't seated until 7:20pm despite arriving right at our reserved time. For only 2 people on a Thursday. I have wanted to try Twisted Tree since 2018. My birthday was the other day and my family treated me to lunch here. It was a mixed bag, for sure. The atmosphere is A-OK. I was expecting a slightly more upscale vibe, but this seems like a slightly nicer Walnut Grill or Longhorn Steahouse. It is owned by Syberg's, and you can tell. The service was absolutely horrific. We got sit in the very corner in a casual room, and were ignored, so we asked to move to the nicer dining room. The hostess grunted but finally gave into us. But it still didn't help. We waited 35 minutes for a waitress. 35. Minutes. The only way we got one was flagging down the (very friendly) bartender, who got the manager's attention. Finally, our server Breanna appeared out of nowhere. Apparently she got confused and was supposed to be serving us the entire time. She was friendly, but honestly, we were annoyed. The food was great, if not a bit overpriced. The Crab Rangoon were a notch above traditional Chinese food. They tasted like China King's but with more garlic flavor. The House Salad was very good and we enjoyed the various sauces that were explained to us. The steaks? Not bad but not $47 quality. We ordered 6-oz filet mignons and were still hungry. They were tender but slightly overdone and needed some more seasoning. I was sent home a free slice of Wedding Cake, which I appreciated. It was decent. But overall? The ambience is great and it's very clean - this restaurant is a must go. You will need reservations especially for a weekend - and they book up in advance so book early. I had Twisted Tree on my list for awhile specifically for the wedding cake dessert! Ha! I finally made it there and I wasn't blown away for several reasons, a couple are because of me. As a result, I plan to give them another try. Here are my issues. I'm getting over a cold so my taste buds may be off. I had an event two hours after my reservation so I only had an hour and a half to eat which caused my experience to be rushed. Here are my thoughts. I walked in while two hostesses and a male employee appeared to be having a personal conversation. One of the hosts looked at me and just stared for a few seconds as if she had no idea why I was there. She finally said hello and told her I had a reservation for 2 pm. She asked my name and said they will be right me. Then continued her conversation with the other two. I finally get seated. Waitress was nice but she started helping other tables while I was ready to order. We soon discovered my reservation was for two (because you can't make one for one person) so she was waiting on my guest. Had the hostesses been more attentive, we could have cleared that up before I was seated. Food was ok. I couldn't taste any seasoning on the lobster bites. The bacon wrapped shrimp were ok but I wouldn't order them again. The Ceasar salad was flavorless with a little too much dressing for my liking.
