Normally I don't post negative comments as I am pretty easy to please in terms of eating out, but this was not a good experience. We were seated promptly, but were not handed menus, so we just sat and felt weird. It took a long time to get our water, and when we finally get our menus, the price of the items were very high. We thought maybe it would worth the price so we went ahead and ordered the 2 person meal, which included beef tenderloin, potato, vegetable, and salad. For $117 plus tax. We wanted our meat medium rare. When we received the food. Half of the meat was very overcooked and dry. The carrots and broccoli were just steamed and with no seasoning at all. The twice baked potatoes were good, and salad was average. With the price they charged, I was expecting the food to be cooked with skills and good flavors. This was very very disappointing for a high priced meal. I think reasonable prices for the meal would be half of what they charged.

Charcoal House is a classic midwestern steakhouse with great food and timeless atmosphere. Waitstaff was there when we needed them, but did not hover over us. Always enjoy getting to meet the owner and it was fun taking to George.

This place is so great. We have been going here for years. An old school steak and fish place, the servers are so friendly and feels like you are family when you are there. Get some onion rings to start (or on your steak). Don't miss the creamy roquefort dressing on your salad, just the right amount, and you'll want to get a roll to wipe up the extra. Steaks are grilled (it is called charcoal house after all) and shrimp is well fried. I also like the lobster tail, just the right size to go with the steak. Go support this local institution, you won't be sorry.

    Special day. Special place

Ask the Community - Charcoal House

Is the Charcoal house on a par with Fleming’s or Tony’s?

Charcoal house it's it's own thing. It looks and feels like an old school supper club. Fleming's is a chain and definitely overrated, Twisted Tree even blows Flemings away. Tony's is better than all above it's Italian so that's another convo too.

I came for a HH and enjoyed three different cocktails. My first was a Gold Rush. It's basically a Bees Knees with Vodka instead of Gin. It was light and refreshing, making it a great start. The second cocktail was one of my all-time favorites, a Old Fashioned. I can honestly say, it was one of the best, if not the absolute best one I have ever had. I finished the HH with a Espresso Martini. It was a good ending to my HH. They use a Cold Brew instead of true espresso, so it had a milder coffee taste. My nosh while drinking was a, Jalapeño Popper Dip. It was okay, in my opinion, it did not fit the description on the menu. Especially, the type of chips described. My friend ordered, The Small Board and it was fantastic and a good value. Our bartenders were friendly and as I stated earlier, they are masters of their skill. What stopped them from getting a 5 Star review, is simple. They do not offer a Martini on their Happy Hour Menu. I'm a Martini Man and that disappointed me, but it wont keep me away, it just keeps them short of 5 Stars.

Walk in and there are plenty of tables, a couple of gathering areas, standing room narrow tables, an outdoor area, and a room off to the side. I went for the Logboat Dark Matter which I have had before in a can and wanted to try on draft. I enjoyed it very much. You know what is great?! Since they don't have food, you can bring it in yourself. Both times our group has met up here Katie's Pizza is the choice and its in the same parking lot. You can't go wrong with Katie's. Bartender is on the ball and friendly, TV's all around, not too loud so you can talk. Wednesday nights they have Trivia and I stayed for the first round, it was very current for the current event category. Get a pizza from Katie's, go here, have a beer, have fun!

You could see this place being lit on St. Patrick's Day…read more It's a deceptively large space, perhaps owing to it being situated on a street that's more along the lines of an alley, along with a few government and industrial buildings. It already smells vaguely of mop water, so it wouldn't be an issue if someone barfed. This place pours a good Guinness draft. Not that I'm an expert. The last few times I had it, it was in the weird cans with the dispenser thing inside of them, years ago. Probably decades ago. But I appreciate the fact that it's served kinda warm, and without too much of a head, meaning you get more beer for your $10, or whatever they're charging you. The food isn't half-bad either. All the photos on Yelp make it look gross, like maybe they were taken in low light, or a long time ago. Possibly both. It was all lit up when I was there, at maybe 8 PM on a Wednesday evening. Does this place turn into some sort of nightlife destination for local boomers? I might drive by this evening and see if I see a bunch of golf carts parked out front. You can't go wrong with a burger in a place like this, so that was the plan. They offer something called the Pub Burger, which comes on an English muffin. It's hard to imagine how that could be a good idea, but I briefly considered it anyway, for the sake of citizen food journalism. The problem is, I would have had to eat it. There was also something called the Llywelyn, served on toasted brioche, which is what I probably should have gotten. I got something called the Diner, which was fine. As its name suggests, it's a bog standard double cheeseburger, like something you might get in, erm, a diner. It was good but not great, but I've been spoiled when it comes to burgers lately, having hit Hi Pointe, Shake Shack and Salt & Smoke all within the past few weeks. The ingredients were really good, including the vegetable toppings, which were fresh and expertly sliced. I especially liked the razor-thin onion slices. The thing that would have really elevated it is if the burger patties had a little char to them. The fish and chips looked good, and I appreciate the fact that they already had malt vinegar out on the table, as if it's a standard condiment. I might have to try that, if I return. I don't know how often I'd eat here otherwise, but a group I belong to meets here on occasion, so that's not outside the realm of possibility.

It was already getting late so we were worried we wouldn't find one in time, when this spot popped up! Their Happy Hour goes until 6:30!! I was a little nervous for parking in this area, but it's far enough down that we had no issues. We walked in and luckily, two people were packing up at the bar, so we snagged their spots. Happy Hour is limited to the bar area only. I have no idea why I haven't heard more about this spot, and I'm honestly surprised it's not hyped up more! They use a lot of local, fresh vendors for their ingredients, and the spot is very clean and welcoming. The bartender was great all night, he gave top notch service. The food menu looks phenomenal, and they have have a lot of great options on the Happy Hour menu itself. I just got a couple glasses of house wine for a great price and my husband got a couple beers, which even the NICE ones were only $5. Their cocktails looked bomb too, we'll have to come back and try some. The beef tacos had REALLY great flavor, the fries were ginormous, crispy and cooked to perfection, and even the whipped feta was tasty. The bread they served it with was bomb. Such a cool spot, great prices, and super high quality. We will definitely be back.

It was a little tight, but we worked it out. The hostess was nice when welcoming us in and getting us going. Our server was Tera, she had our large group plus other tables, so she was doing her best to coordinate. We shared menu's, they had regular menus and special menus for Valentines Day. Tara was great with keeping track of the couples when ordering. I ordered the Butcher Board as an appetizer to share with others. Everyone really enjoyed it, especially the toasted bread. The salami, sausage and Braunschweiger. There was a buffalo chicken terrine that was different but good. Grain mustard aioli and house made pickles rounded out the board. I also ordered a cherry margarita as my first of two drinks. The second one was a Hugo Spritz. Both were ok, not great. I ordered the Tenderloin from the Valentine menu. It came with fingerling potatoes and green beans with a sauce. It was delicious! The beef so tender and flavorful. The meal was superb. To go packaging was great and came in a brown bag with handles that makes it easy to carry. We had a great time, great food and service.
