Stopped by for lunch. Had the burger; it was pretty good, though a bit dry. Brought wine. Corkage was a fair $25. Service was friendly. Ambiance is your typical business lunch spot.

5-Star Steakhouse - as good as it gets for a Top-tier restaurant! Impeccable service, Excellent food and Cozy ambience! My 1st time here and I was not disappointed by any part of the experience, especially the meal! Known for steaks, but plenty of other tasty menu options and sides to choose. Overall 5.0 experience for me; expect to spend ~$60-90pp for entrees plus any sides, starters, drinks, etc. Highly recommend reservations, and valet parking available for a charge. Today, ordered the Clam Chowder Soup as starter; it was deliciously creamy, flavorful and chunky - on a chilly day, i could've had this and a salad for a meal. Also got to have the Lobster and Crab Cake with Lemon Basil Aioli - good portion, yummy to eat and definitely a sharable appetizer! For my entree, I ordered the Bone-in Filet - WOW, cooked perfectly and amazingly good! And yep, the bone went home as a special treat for my dog - lucky gal! I also got a taste of the Sesame Seared Tuna; generous portion, delicious to eat, wonderful seafood selection! Shareable (12 of us) sides included Au Gratin potatoes, Grilled Asparagus, Sam's Mashed Potatoes, Brussel Sprouts with Bacon, and Roasted Wild Mushrooms. All of them complimented any steak option, so you won't go wrong. Next time I'd love to try their Creamed Spinach too. For me, it's definitely a celebration or special occasion meal; and TCG is a fantastic choice! Cheers, ENJOY!!!

Linley (forgive incorrect spelled) was an excellent server in the bar area. Pleasant, attentive service with great lunch recommendations. Cozy, quiet atmosphere during the lunch hour; not too crowded. Thoroughly enjoyed the French onion soup. The Caesar salad was delicious & filling as well. Parking is easy breezy (careful if you opt for meter parking). ~Christy

If you're in search of a classic steakhouse experience done right, without the stuffy feel, The Capital Grille is the place to be! Your steak will come out perfectly cooked and you'll have too many delicious sides to choose from. The service is wonderful and everyone is very helpful. If you're looking to splurge on a night out, this place is perfect for that!

I will start by saying that the cocktails, the food, and the service were outstanding on Thanksgiving Day, as we expected when we booked our reservation weeks in advance. My notes involve the pre-dining experience. #1 was the 20-minute wait for a reserved table at the non-peak dining time of 3pm. I assumed the servers, on fully-booked days, remind the diners of their dining window to allow the tables to be bussed and turned over for the next reservation. That clearly was not the case. #2. I was irritated that reservations were freed by cancellations but your system would not allow me to change to 4pm or 5pm after I accepted the only available time of 3pm weeks earlier. #3 What is the point of a dress code at a fine dining establishment if it's not enforced? Clearly many nearby residents look at The Capital Grille as their neighborhood diner, so it's important that dress code reminders are included on all reservation sites, on all reservation confirmations, and in the confirmation call (that I was shocked to receive). 75% of the attire on Thanksgiving Day was atrocious. We love The Capital Grille and don't want to see its classiness lost to the "come as you are" crowd.

Great dinner. Great service. Found street parking on a Friday night. Got in without a reservation! The food was delicious. The onion bread was very good. Soft. Warm. Tasty. The crab cake was good. The field salad was good. The steak was amazing. Great seasoning. Well cooked. Got a side of shallot butter and didn't even need it. The Brussel sprouts was delicious. Must get. The mashed potatoes was delicious. Must get. Got the dessert sampler with cheesecake and flourless and chocolate cake. Service by all was amazing.

We stopped in for the first time on a Friday to enjoy dinner with friends. We chose to sit in the bar for a more casual vibe. Our server was great and attentive to us throughout the entire meal. We started with appetizers and drinks. The calamari and prosciutto wrapped mozzarella were fantastic starters. My boyfriend does not eat seafood, but tried the calamari and even went back for seconds! I chose to try the house cocktail, the Doli, it was so refreshing and not overly sweet. I also sampled the Blackberry bourbon side car, I'm not a huge fan of bourbon but I loved this drink. For my main meal I got the filet mignon, asparagus, and truffle fries. The steak was cooked perfectly as was the asparagus! The truffle fries were good and fresh but did not blow me away like the rest of the meal. We are looking forward to our next visit!

Today's review is just about drinking cocktails at the bar. A friend and I were in Clayton having lunch at another restaurant and needed a second cocktail. We were disappointed with the cocktails at our lunch place, so we left and came to, The Capital Grille where I knew the cocktails were masterfully made. We claimed our seats at the bar and the bartender quickly greeted us. After glancing over the Specialty Cocktails menu, we ordered our adult beverages. I chose, In Fashion (a play on an Old Fashioned) and my friend enjoyed, an Espresso Martini. Both were superbly made and satisfied our craving for the second cocktail. I moved away from STL 5 years ago and miss eating and drinking at, The Capital Grille. So I was thrilled to enjoy my adult beverage, today. Now I need to get back and have some Prime Rib.

I came here for a solo birthday dinner. The restaurant was very dimly lit; perfect for an anniversary, date night or b-day celebration. I wanted to sit alone, in a corner for privacy. I sat more so towards the front of the restaurant, but my booth was in the corner. The host was nice and greeted me right away and I almost felt like she already knew who I Was, lol. I had a birthday card, signed by some of the staff, and a small amount of confetti on the table. So cute! Corbin was my server and he was nice, helpful and patient while I decided on what to order. I started with out with a sideacar, per Corbin's recommendation. It was waaayyyyyy too sweet for me, so I switched to an in fashion. I'm usually an old-fashioned type of girl, so this was definitely more my speed. For dinner, I ended up getting the ribeye, medium, brussel sprouts, and augratin potatoes. The steak was great, the brussels were good (wish I had a little more bacon), and my au gratin potatoes- the cheese tasted a little charred but cooked well overall. The shallot butter was INCREDIBLE. I had plenty of leftovers. Corbin took my food to wrap up. I was presented with some complimentary birthday dessert, flourless chocolate cake and creme brulee, and a glass of champagne. Very delicious, nice touch! I would have given 5 stars, but I was very disappointed and annoyed with how my leftovers were stored. They weren't compartmentalized or placed in individual bins. It was like Corbin or whoever, just flipped my plates over and tossed them into the to-go bin. My shallot butter was just tossed on top of the steak in a container. My potatoes and brussels were stored with my steak and just all over the place inside the bin. Even my desserts were just thrown on top of each other in ONE container, not separated at all!! I don't know if they were in a rush, if that's a common practice or what, but that was really disappointing.

I decided to have my birthday dinner while the Wagyu and Wine promotion was running. My server was so great and the food was delicious. The French onion soup is absolutely delicious and was perfect for the cool night. I definitely plan to return before the promotion ends!

Anniversary dinner. Service was amazing. Bar area was comfortable. Steak and drinks were 5/5. Sides could use a little work. French onion soup came out cold. Salad was a little watery. And potatoes were a little dry... all in all still a good meal.

I had truly a great experience at capital grille! It was my first time ever there and exceeded expectations. The ambiance is great, very moody. It's almost like stepping into a mad men episode lol. We went for lunch so it was a smaller menu but got the special salad of the day which included steak medium well and a tomato salad with Cesar salad. That was super good! I also got the French onion soup and wow incredible, I will be dreaming on that until I get it again. The cocktails were yummy and strong. Desserts unreal.... I got the coconut cream pie and the portion is quite large which was great for the price. Our server was polite, helpful and funny. Will be going again!

Grilled sea bass with mushrooms and asparagus dish was delicious along oh the staple clam chowder. Service always excellent. Hot rolls and salted butter always a treat too. Skip the NY cheesecake though.

Impressive bread basket.

Clayton was busy, so street parking was hard to find. Once seated, we were greeted with friendly service and were brought water. I ordered a ginger beer with cranberry juice added to it for a refreshing mocktail. We ordered the Squeaky Cheese to start, the golden-brown cheese curds were gooey and had the perfect crunch. They were served with marinara and a serrano dill aioli. The aioli had just the right amount of spice, complementing the dill flavor. The marinara was saucy and also good. I ordered the Bacon Jam Burger with fries. The burger was juicy, sweet, and had a nice crunch. The bacon jam was subtle, but it enhanced the overall flavor. My only complaint was that the bottom bun came out a bit soggy causing the burger to lose structure as I ate it. The fries were thin and crunchy! I had a lovely experience and would like to come back to try a cocktail!

Nothing divey about a hip cocktail or hip deviled eggs -- these are sophisticated modern twists, the exact move wine bars make and dives don't. A chalkboard of specials and weathered seating gesture at the aesthetic; the rest of the room knows. Kendall Roy of restaurants -- comes from privilege, wants badly to be of the people. It's a bit, and mostly the kitchen and bar back it up. Nevertheless, we arrived to a full room, hour wait for a table, but we fortunately arrived to snag the last first come patio table. The bar was also full, by the way, which felt neighborhood like, people clearly like this place during happy hour. The old fashioned makes the case: Old Grand-Dad Bonded, pickled rye, cognac, butterscotch bitters. Two whiskeys and a bitter you won't find at an actual dive. Rich, a little sweet. The harissa deviled eggs keep going -- fried shallots, roasted red peppers, cilantro, marinated tomato jam. You know, just like the old dive with the $1 PBR.Deviled eggs for people that don't like deviled eggs. However, we love deviled eggs...foreshadowing. The short ribs are the headline -- fall-apart tender over whipped potatoes substantial enough to stand up to the meat, gravy spot on. Eats like a perfectly executed roast dinner. The brie burger is the sneaky second hit, genuinely decadent, bacon with the cheese melting into the beef. The service was good and pleasant and that felt more like dive-friendly, where you might expect a wine "bar" to be snooty or full of themselves. 4.4 Stars Picking Nits: hip deviled eggs that reach past what they can hold. Tomato jelly on top is a lot going on, in the wrong way, and the egg disappears under it. These are trying to be hip deviled eggs more than they're trying to be good deviled eggs. Every ambitious kitchen has one plate that tries too hard; this appears to be one. A 5 needs those eggs landing, in the same way the entrees excelled. Regardless, we'll be back.

Versatile, knows…read morehow to treat yo' self, equally at home in yoga pants, ready for a backwoods adventure or dressed to the nines, and doesn't blink at any version of you that walks through the door. That's the vibe. We started on the front patio on a Friday night and quickly realized we'd made a mistake. The doors to the interior were open and the music -- a rock-forward playlist that night -- was loud enough that we considered bailing. Our server, was unbothered when we asked to move up to the rooftop. Where we met with a new bartender and server, London, who rolled with it, got us resettled, and from that point on the night was great. London was clearly handling the bar and most of the rooftop tables, but she was attentive throughout, and made eye contact, which seems a near miracle from many 20-something these days. Bumping the score up just for the flexibility on the table move alone. The food: crab cakes were genuinely good, not life-changing, but well above the weak-crab-cake bar that exists in most of the world, served simply with capers and a small salad. I went off-script and ordered the wagyu burger medium rare with fontina (London mentioned cheddar is the more common pick, but the Fontina offerd a great alternative). The burger was deeply flavorful and cooked exactly right, but here's my one real note for the kitchen: toast the brioche bun. Wagyu medium-rare puts out a lot of juice, and an untoasted bun loses its structural integrity about three bites in. A quick toast would let the bun keep some additional integrate and keep up with the perfectly cooked beef. The pom buff were great, the best elevated patato tots you may come by. Beyond what we ordered, the Greek salad is a longtime go-to -- chopped, with grape leaves and pita, available in a small or large, and easily dressed up into a light meal with or without adding some protein or can be share as a self-dress bruschetta appetizer for the group if you ask for extra bread. The cheese boards are also a reliable pick. The wine list is extensive (it's a wine bar, after all), but they don't sniff at cocktails -- I had a solid fine old fashioned, and my wife shared had a Malbec that paired well with everything. Lots of gluten-free options across the menu, too. What Sasha's gets right is that it has refused to become precious. "Wine bar" reads as pretentious to some people, but this place runs as a neighborhood spot. You'll see college kids dressed way down, couples on dates dressed way up, Hawaiian shirts, oversized sweaters, the full range. It's the kind of place where you can split a bottle with your girlfriends, meet a date for drinks and a quick bite without committing to a full dinner, or roll in for brunch on the weekend. Different times of day, different vibes -- always approachable. 4.7 stars. Loses a few tenths for the front-patio music situation and the weak burger bun, but more than makes up for it on flexibility, food, and overall hang factor.

There were a few open tables, but we were asked to wait by the door while they "got situated." Meanwhile, a walk-in who arrived after us was seated at a table we had been waiting for. When we were finally seated, we were placed in direct sun. I asked if we could move to a shaded table in the corner and was told it was only for parties of three. After explaining we'd just be there briefly for a drink, we were allowed to sit there, but the interaction felt dismissive. From that point on, the experience felt rushed. We were pushed to order quickly, our menus were taken right away, and the check came almost immediately. It made what should have been a relaxed stop feel uncomfortable and transactional. I understand how busy restaurants can get, especially on nice days, but a little more consideration and courtesy would have gone a long way.

We awkwardly gathered our belongings without protest and were rushed outside unassisted, with the other patrons staring at us. As we exited, we heard the server reappear and graciously apologize to the waiting party, offering them champagne. The table outside was set when we arrived but then actively cleared by the busser after we sat down. No one came back to check in. We felt unwelcome and quickly left. It was unnecessarily uncomfortable and put a damper on what was supposed to be a celebratory meal. This was a service failure. I understand the need to turn tables over quickly, but we should have been given at least 5 minutes notice, especially when the kitchen is running behind. Alternatively, the drinks could have been taken off the bill and we could have left outright. Even help moving or any involvement from our server or the manager would have been appreciated, but they were not present. Having had many great experiences at Vicia, I expected more from the take root hospitality group.
