Il Palato provides a charming Italian ambiance with its low-key, candle-lit setting. The abundance of baked bread consumed before dinner brings me great joy and should not be judged. The seafood pasta was impressive with its generous portion of seafood, creating a flavorful and satisfying dish. #stlouispescatarianapproved @stlouispescatarians on instagram. The caramel apple dessert added a sweet finale to a great dining experience overall. Ask Jensen W. if she'd bathe in the dessert.

Had a reservation there tonight at 6:45 with my husband Kevin. Moved my napkin before I sat down and this critter crawled out. We left immediately.

Let's start backwards with the dessert, the apple caramel dessert was so good I could bathe in the caramel. Not kidding the seafood pasta was also great, they even split it up for me since we were sharing it! Our waitress was the nicest & most helpful. The vibe was quiet & lowkey & dark but very cool.

First time here and it won't be last! Il Palato is located in the center of Clayton. Meter street parking is available until 5pm (Monday through Friday), while free other times. Interior is elegant and classy. Service is great as well. Our water gets refilled frequently throughout our dinner. I came for dinner at 630pm on a Friday evening. Perhaps it's in the midst of omicron outbreak, it's not crowded. The servers put all diners far apart, so I feel safe dining here. Their menu isn't very big. We ordered three dishes. All of them come out really good. What did I ordered? * Melazanya (Appetizer) is really delicious. We are served with three large pieces of crispy eggplant is served with basil and mozzarella in tomato sauce. * We ordered two pasta dishes for dinner. Both are very good, but I especially love the one with giant prawns, seafood served in fish broth. Our second pasta dish is a papadelle served with shredded pork. I like it too, though I feel the meat should be more evenly mixed in the pasta. The price is a little high ($80 for the three dishes, including tips) but reasonable given the quality of the food, seating and the level of service. We'd come back again.

Very friendly service and good came very quick! We sat outside and it was wonderful, and the food was amazing. Definitely recommend the Melanzana even if you don't like eggplant.

Very appealing place. Their curb appeal was beautiful. It's looks inviting, upscale, and intimate. They have spacious outdoor seating which is what we chose due to it being a beautiful day. Jack was our server of the evening and he was very helpful. We decided on the Porchetta for the appetizer. The crunchy and crispy bites of pork was excellent. It was surrounded by two sauces that made the dish sing. It was topped with a cucumber/pepper relish. It was spicy and yummy yummm yum. I definitely recommend it. We also got the Ravioli and the Orecchiette. The ravioli and the sauce was the best thing I've eaten in a while. It was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The pasta was delicious and had the perfect bite. The sauce was the star though. I really don't have the words to describe it but just trust me. It will surely give you the eye roll and moan that good food gives. The Orecchiette was plentiful and balanced. The Clams were cooked to perfection. The Salsiccia and Shrimp were also amazing. The pasta was not over cooked at all and it was flavorful. I didn't have to add anything to alter them. I would most definitely return for these dishes. There are also several others that I'd try also.

What a gem in St. Louis area!!! Went in on a Monday night because everybody else was closed. Did not expect much, but was blown away by quality and taste of appetizers and entrees. I traveled to Italy three times and always miss authentic Italian food. This is it! Next time I'm in St. Louis area I'll be here again. Also service was amazing Jack took really good care of us!

We had a disappointing experience with the service and the food. Our server brought a cauliflower appetizer instead of the bucatini with cauliflower bolognese. We asked the server why there was no bucatini and he just said it didn't come with any pasta. I then ordered a chicken entree that had a good taste other than it had many hot peppers. The entree description didn't mention any hot peppers or heat. I mentioned this to the owner but he only responded casually. I've never had a hot Italian entree like this. The focaccia bread is always good and I'll Palato is a nice, comfortable restaurant.

It's all about the flavor and all about the service! And our waiter JUSTIN was always just in time for everything. Great appetizers, the entrées were unbelievable. The manager and the waiter very very courteous. We sat outside and it too was wonderful. Give it a try! Ask for handsome Justin!

Clayton was busy, so street parking was hard to find. Once seated, we were greeted with friendly service and were brought water. I ordered a ginger beer with cranberry juice added to it for a refreshing mocktail. We ordered the Squeaky Cheese to start, the golden-brown cheese curds were gooey and had the perfect crunch. They were served with marinara and a serrano dill aioli. The aioli had just the right amount of spice, complementing the dill flavor. The marinara was saucy and also good. I ordered the Bacon Jam Burger with fries. The burger was juicy, sweet, and had a nice crunch. The bacon jam was subtle, but it enhanced the overall flavor. My only complaint was that the bottom bun came out a bit soggy causing the burger to lose structure as I ate it. The fries were thin and crunchy! I had a lovely experience and would like to come back to try a cocktail!

There's something about a place in Clayton insisting: don't call me a wine bar, I'm a wine dive…read more Okay. We see you. You're a wine bar. Nothing divey about a hip cocktail or hip deviled eggs -- these are sophisticated modern twists, the exact move wine bars make and dives don't. A chalkboard of specials and weathered seating gesture at the aesthetic; the rest of the room knows. Kendall Roy of restaurants -- comes from privilege, wants badly to be of the people. It's a bit, and mostly the kitchen and bar back it up. Nevertheless, we arrived to a full room, hour wait for a table, but we fortunately arrived to snag the last first come patio table. The bar was also full, by the way, which felt neighborhood like, people clearly like this place during happy hour. The old fashioned makes the case: Old Grand-Dad Bonded, pickled rye, cognac, butterscotch bitters. Two whiskeys and a bitter you won't find at an actual dive. Rich, a little sweet. The harissa deviled eggs keep going -- fried shallots, roasted red peppers, cilantro, marinated tomato jam. You know, just like the old dive with the $1 PBR.Deviled eggs for people that don't like deviled eggs. However, we love deviled eggs...foreshadowing. The short ribs are the headline -- fall-apart tender over whipped potatoes substantial enough to stand up to the meat, gravy spot on. Eats like a perfectly executed roast dinner. The brie burger is the sneaky second hit, genuinely decadent, bacon with the cheese melting into the beef. The service was good and pleasant and that felt more like dive-friendly, where you might expect a wine "bar" to be snooty or full of themselves. 4.4 Stars Picking Nits: hip deviled eggs that reach past what they can hold. Tomato jelly on top is a lot going on, in the wrong way, and the egg disappears under it. These are trying to be hip deviled eggs more than they're trying to be good deviled eggs. Every ambitious kitchen has one plate that tries too hard; this appears to be one. A 5 needs those eggs landing, in the same way the entrees excelled. Regardless, we'll be back.

After we paid (and tipped 30%), we were abruptly told by the hostess to leave the table and move outside to finish the drinks we had just ordered. We awkwardly gathered our belongings without protest and were rushed outside unassisted, with the other patrons staring at us. As we exited, we heard the server reappear and graciously apologize to the waiting party, offering them champagne. The table outside was set when we arrived but then actively cleared by the busser after we sat down. No one came back to check in. We felt unwelcome and quickly left. It was unnecessarily uncomfortable and put a damper on what was supposed to be a celebratory meal. This was a service failure. I understand the need to turn tables over quickly, but we should have been given at least 5 minutes notice, especially when the kitchen is running behind. Our meal started with a complimentary offering of their bleu cheese soufflé with crisps and bread service--both delicious. I enjoyed a glass of their current "by the glass" Chardonnay, and my boyfriend got a Yeungling (poured table-side). I got my scallops, as planned, which certainly did not disappoint. Cooked perfectly, fresh and delicious. The wilted romaine seemed odd at first but totally rounded out the potato mash at the base, with the absolute flavor-bomb of the shiitakes. Highly recommend this dish any day! My boyfriend opted for the NY Strip; we both agreed it was one of the best steaks we'd ever had; seasoned perfectly and cooked masterfully. There was a slight mishap whereby a food runner gave him a tasting portion of the strip (likely meant for another table); we first didn't realize and were very disappointed with the size. However, without a word from us, the chef came out and personally explained, apologized, and corrected--I didn't snap a photo of the full portion when it came out, but it was perfect and much more what we expected. That brings me to the service, which was spectacular. Several staff members gave us a personal touch and they all seemed to be genuinely happy to be there. The space is beautiful and intimate. It was moderately busy and still quiet. The atmosphere feels upscale, but not pretentious or unapproachable. This place was on my radar for a long time, and I sure wish I'd gone long ago. I don't even remember the food that just popped up in my memories because apparently, I never finished the review! So let's try this again. First of all, this place has such a dark, romantic, and all-around great vibe. It's the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to sit back, enjoy your drink, and take your time. The staff was doing their best to accommodate everyone and keep things moving in a timely fashion, even though they were pretty busy. When you're single, there's almost always room at the bar, so I squeezed in and ordered a drink I've been partial to lately. The barback had no idea what I was talking about, but no worries. He asked the female bartender, she Googled it, and she made it wonderfully! I forgot to mention that I like my drink served up, martini style, so I ended up having it with ice this time. No big deal because it was still made amazingly and tasted great. And while we're talking about ice, I'm the same way with my water. I like my water COLD, but I do not want ice in it. Then came the $10 burger and fries, and let me tell you, I was NOT expecting what came out. For $10, I assumed I was getting some tiny slider-sized burger, but nope! Out came this BIG ASS burger with a gorgeous pile of fries. I was shocked! And even better, both the burger and fries tasted great. I am so full right now I can hardly breathe!!! Overall, this was another great solo date with myself. The atmosphere was amazing, the staff was accommodating, my drink was delicious, and that $10 burger and fries was an absolute steal. Sometimes taking yourself out is exactly what you need, and this was definitely a date worth repeating. And the best part? Extremely affordable!!!

I made reservations, they require a credit card to make reservations so that if you cancel outside of the 24-hour time period or you do not show up, they can charge you up to $25 per person. Fair. I've seen this before in other restaurants. I made a 5:45 pm reservations as it was on a Saturday and I wanted to get there before it got too busy. We were seated on the lounge area. I asked the waitress if there was a way we could be seated at a normal table for dining. She then explained that people have eaten dinners on those tables before and that there's no open tables to move us to. Why, yes. I have also eaten off of a picnic blanket while at the park. I am well aware that people can eat off of different types of surfaces. Anyway, we made do though I was annoyed having to lean forward to take a bite out of my steak. The plate was too large to sit on my lap and I didn't want to eat off of my lap anyway. By the way, the proper table by us was empty the whole time from the time we got there, ordered appetizers, and our main entree, ate everything and sat around for 10 more minutes to finish our drinks. The food was excellent! We started with the crab dip which was true to its name. It had crab meat and topped with some crisp bread crumbs, no fillers. For places who try to pass off crab dips, they should take a page off of High Bar's recipe book. My husband had the chicken sandwich and I had the steak for my entree. As usual, I ordered mine medium rare which came properly prepared. I always get nervous when ordering steak at a non-steakhouse but I trusted my gut and they delivered. My husband really enjoyed his chicken sandwich. It had 2 fried chickens stacked atop one another. He took one off and took it home for later. We both had some cocktails. I love their spritz and the spritz options they have. Our waitress was okay. She wasn't overly friendly or attentive but she took our orders and kind of acknowledged our existence when she had to. The people delivering our food and drinks were nicer. We wanted to take our leftovers home and told our waitress this. She dropped off some containers and the check. We left shortly after. I was honestly hoping for a much better experience. At least the food was still really good!
