I've been to the Chophouse in Clayton several times and it's yet to disappoint me. Their steaks are excellent and the desserts are delicious. Great service and ambience for just right for a special night out. The family members with me on this night had never been before and they were gushing. All three of the loved their meals. Our sides were great too. My wife had the Ahi Tuna and it was top tier for sure. It's an expensive meal but the experience is well worth it for special occasions. Steak lovers should check off the box on this place for sure.

Alright first time here and I thought it was pretty good and not so good. The inside was very nice and spacious. The bar area was really nice. Got a couple drinks for happy hour and they tasted really good. Once we got to the table the waiter was really nice and informative of the menu and different steaks. I do want to say this places is expensive for what you get. For apps we got the fried lobster and these were so amazing but costed $95. They were crunchy, had lots of flavor and really good. Also got the down home shrimp. They were basically $8 per shrimp which they were good. Mains - ceaser salad was good but didn't really like the Parmesan thing. The filet melon had nice flavor however I ordered it as a medium but it came out as medium rare and it definitely turned me off. The dessert was okay as well

801 Chophouse truly made my birthday feel special and personal. When you walk into the restaurant the greeters show that they're happy to see you and kindly get you seated immediately. For this day we had a reservation so they knew it was a birthday celebration. They gave us a special menu that had a "Happy Birthday" on the top. This little touch goes a long way. The waiter was one of the best waiters I've had in my life 10/10. He helped detail the menu and explained to us all about the specific dishes and where their meat came from. He helped us pick certain dishes that he recommended as his favorites and was one of the kindest workers we've ever came across. The atmosphere here was perfect for an intimate dinner experience with my loved one. The lighting was a dim setting, the seating was comfortable and spacey. While looking around the art work gave a fun touch to the restaurant. The bathrooms here were gorgeous as well. The steaks here were absolutely delicious, and juicy. We tried the oysters here and they were amazing! We got the Rockefeller oysters, some of the best oysters I've had! They finished my experience off with a fun birthday touch. I was given a dessert of choice, they customize it to say happy birthday and gave me a candle to blow out. 801 Chophouse was the best birthday dinner I've had in awhile.

The food...the service...the patio!! I love a good happy hour!! And 801 never disappoints! You can eat like a emperor (I'm assuming that's a lot and good! lol). I had the grilled oysters, filet sliders and a large Cesar salad for less than $50!!!

We were in town for a special occasion this week so we took a small group here on Sunday evening. Since we were more than 4 people we got a nice table in a private room. It was really very nice. My prime rib was excellent. It came as part of a Sunday special deal and was noted on the menu as a 12-oz cut. And it was a very generous 12-oz I will say. In fact, it seemed everyone was happy. Wifey had the lamb chops and was ecstatic. Other choices around the table included halibut, salmon, and a fillet mignon. I had to laugh at their mistakes. I asked for the balsamic vinaigrette on my salad but it came out with Italian dressing. But it was pretty good Italian. Then, when the meat came out with the asparagus and not the green beans, well, the grilled asparagus was just so good too. Three scoops of sorbet for dessert (I couldn't eat it all) and some coffee was a perfect end to the meal.

This is probably the best steakhouse I've been to. Mind you, the special steaks (like waygu) are priced like you are in one of the best steakhouses. But the regular steaks are reasonable for a higher end place. I had the regular new York strip -- there was a waygu version that cost 3x, but I went for the regular. It's was quite excellent. The steaks come with no sides -- you must order them separately and the portions are large enough for about 4 people to share. Some of the appetizers were superb -- particularly the lamb lollipops. They didn't always appear on the menu so you might need to ask. Several of us considered just ordering a few of these instead of the regular menu offerings because they are so good. I found the lobster tail appetizer a bit over-breaded -- enough so that you couldn't really make out the flavor of the lobster ... It could have been chicken for all I could tell -- this is the one dish I thought was poorly conceived. If the lobster is good, why would you cover up the delicate flavor with all this breading and salt? Service was great and the wine selection was very good.

Normally I avoid chains like people avoid eye contact in NYC, but sometimes I need my vitamins aka oysters and a nice and vibing restaurant to do a little work. This is a beautiful spot. I slurped down 1/2 dozen and I felt reborn. Might be a steakhouse but I came for the mollusks. Chain rule temporarily suspended. Shhhhh. Don't tell anyone.

Nice special occasion steakhouse in downtown Clayton! They have the best oysters rockefeller appetizer. We also liked the bone marrow & tuna tartare apps. The steak was very tasty with the bone marrow butter topping, and they gave us a special birthday dessert - the Grand Marnier souffle is delicious! It was really busy, so service was a bit slow about 4 hours, but we got a lot of food and the restaurant was very full.

My boyfriend and I went here tonight to celebrate my boyfriend birthday. We got both oysters and bone marrow for appetizer. For our drinks, we got 1 bottle of heritage blend wine. From our entrees, we got the New York strip and ribeye, both cooked medium rare. Tip for our next visit: will ask for light on the salt for our steaks. It was cooked perfectly. We also ordered spinach and loaded potato sides. For dessert, we got the carrot cake. We definitely over order for the two of us. The service was great. Everything came out fast and efficient. It was a great experience overall.

Went to Clayton Restaurant week for the second year in a row and it was fabulous! We sat at the bar and ordered a drink since we were extremely early for our reservation. The espresso martini was huge, they do not skimp on the alcohol! My friend and I both had the 6oz filet medium and they were cooked to perfection and so tender. Parking is the only downfall. I spent what felt like forever looking for a spot and luckily found one in a random lot

The steak to fry ratio on the steak frites was a bit off (steak was fairly small) but I appreciated that they don't skimp on sides at all! The French dip was the most meat I've ever had in one. The loaded baked potato was hot and filled with all the goods including cheese and bacon. My friend got the ribeye with the loaded baked potato, and it was just right for him. They also gave us a list of their favorite menu items. That was the sign that it was time for us to go! We were lucky and found a great parking spot. It was a nice night and a lot of people were in the area. We were greeted warmly by a few people at the hostess stand. Our table was almost ready - literally maybe a two minute wait - and then we were seated. It's not a huge space, but they make the most of it. The place was full! Our server was Josh and he was great! There were a number of people that came to our table throughout our two hours there. Drink delivery, food delivery, Amanda (one of our very favorite servers we met at another restaurant), water pourer, table cleaner, etc - lots of staff taking care of everyone. We dropped utensils a few times and someone on staff was there replacing it before we even picked it up off the floor. We're not THAT clumsy - the tables for two aren't large and it was easy to hit a utensil unknowingly! It's a little loud in there due to the size of the space and the number of people they can seat. It wasn't annoyingly loud, but louder than some places. We ordered our cocktails and then started trying to decide what to order. Josh went over the menu with us, told us about some of the items in more detail, and told us about the specials. He was super knowledgeable about the entire menu. He also had a fun personality. Focaccia and olive oil were brought to our table. It was literally the only thing I didn't like there. I love focaccia, but it was served almost cold. I prefer it warm. And this wasn't room temp - it was very cool. We started with Prosciutto di Parma. Because peaches are in season, it came with fresh sliced peaches and it was delicious! Without the peaches, I think the prosciutto would have been too salty for me, but I'm salt sensitive. I had the Roman Gnocco and it was very good! I brought half of it home. My husband got the Sweet Corn Ravioli. It was a special and it was delicious. It was the perfect summer entree! We had an ice cream sandwich for dessert and wow! It's absolutely not like one you've had before. I was already full, but I made some room! In addition to the food and cocktails being so good, the staff were fabulous! They didn't miss a trick. Someone always noticed everything! And the food they took from me to box up was kept somewhere else until we were ready to go. It was brought with the bill. It was labeled with our table number and what the contents were. Was it a big deal? No. Was it very thoughtful? Yes. We didn't have a box sitting there while we enjoyed dessert and finished our cocktails. My only regret is that we had not been there before. The food and service are both top notch. We will most definitely be back!

All three of us split a piece of the chocolate chip cheesecake for dessert and there are no words to describe the yumminess of that cake!!! William was our waiter and he was amazing! So attentive, kind and accommodating of our special requests. His customer service is top of the line. We will request him again the next time we visit. The young man who bussed our table was delightful as well. Just an all around wonderful evening/dining experience! It was a lovely celebration of a milestone birthday.

I've been wanting to try this place for years. Literally decades. Sunday was my birthday, which…read morealso happens to fall on Father's Day this year. SO called and asked the host if we needed reservations if we were to show up around 820pm. She was sweet and said that would be a perfect because things would probably be calmed down by then and we could easily snag a table. When we arrive at 8:20 and ask for a table for two, the hostess declines and said they're only taking reservations today because of the holiday. SO mention that we spoke to someone on the phone. She was clearly annoyed, but went in the back, came out and reluctantly sat us. They were plenty of open tables. They sat a table of five 20 minutes after us, so they would've been there past close anyway. She sat us at a teeny tiny table in a little stuffy side room that looks like it used to be a porch. It definitely wasn't romantic the way I was picturing this place. Our server was fine, as attentive as we needed him to be. We shared the Cajun bbq shrimp, pork chop, ribeye with bearnaise sauce, zucchini, and potatoes, salads. Overall, the food was good, but nothing compared to what I've heard people rave about over the years, so I was disappointed. I wasn't a fan of the pork chop. For being such a thick pork chop it was dry. The zucchini was slightly undercooked. Nothing really impressed. I'm glad I finally tried it but disappointed that it wasn't what I was hoping for.

They still have a happy hour menu daily from 3p-6p, all day on Monday, but the options have changed. Double Cream Brie Burger $23 - Australian wagyu beef, crispy prosciutto, fig coulis, arugula, and fries. The burger was juicy and tasty and the fries were thin and crispy. From the Happy Hour Menu Moscow Mule $7 - Refreshing and not strong. They ran out of ginger beer pretty early in the evening. Banh Mi Pork Belly Tacos (3) $10 - Overall tasty tacos, pork belly was fatty and tender. They are on Opentable for make online reservations. .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2026

There's something about a place in Clayton insisting: don't call me a wine bar, I'm a wine dive…read more Okay. We see you. You're a wine bar. Nothing divey about a hip cocktail or hip deviled eggs -- these are sophisticated modern twists, the exact move wine bars make and dives don't. A chalkboard of specials and weathered seating gesture at the aesthetic; the rest of the room knows. Kendall Roy of restaurants -- comes from privilege, wants badly to be of the people. It's a bit, and mostly the kitchen and bar back it up. Nevertheless, we arrived to a full room, hour wait for a table, but we fortunately arrived to snag the last first come patio table. The bar was also full, by the way, which felt neighborhood like, people clearly like this place during happy hour. The old fashioned makes the case: Old Grand-Dad Bonded, pickled rye, cognac, butterscotch bitters. Two whiskeys and a bitter you won't find at an actual dive. Rich, a little sweet. The harissa deviled eggs keep going -- fried shallots, roasted red peppers, cilantro, marinated tomato jam. You know, just like the old dive with the $1 PBR.Deviled eggs for people that don't like deviled eggs. However, we love deviled eggs...foreshadowing. The short ribs are the headline -- fall-apart tender over whipped potatoes substantial enough to stand up to the meat, gravy spot on. Eats like a perfectly executed roast dinner. The brie burger is the sneaky second hit, genuinely decadent, bacon with the cheese melting into the beef. The service was good and pleasant and that felt more like dive-friendly, where you might expect a wine "bar" to be snooty or full of themselves. 4.4 Stars Picking Nits: hip deviled eggs that reach past what they can hold. Tomato jelly on top is a lot going on, in the wrong way, and the egg disappears under it. These are trying to be hip deviled eggs more than they're trying to be good deviled eggs. Every ambitious kitchen has one plate that tries too hard; this appears to be one. A 5 needs those eggs landing, in the same way the entrees excelled. Regardless, we'll be back.
