Came here for Valentine's Day dinner and the ambience was very nice. We were unfortunately sat at a table rather than a booth which was not ideal but our waitress was super friendly and awesome. When we were debating which cuts to order, she delivered a detailed explanation of each one, and even brought a platter of them out for us to see. Definitely an upscale place, so budget for that. Here's what we got: Roasted Bone marrow: 8/10 - came with quite a few bones, and the marrow was rich and buttery. It truly was a melt in your mouth experience, and with the addition of the arugula and red onions on the side, it was lovely. Brussels sprouts: 9/10 - these had such a lovely flavor to them and the honey Dijon sauce was delicious. We prefer Brussels a little more charred but otherwise these were a hit. Garlic mashed potatoes with Boursin: 100/10 - SO good. Best mashed potatoes we've ever had. You HAVE to add the cheese, it's so worth it. They're ridiculously creamy, flavorful, and overall, just tasty. Broccolini: 7.5/10 - this was average. We wanted them charred a bit more and also more red pepper flakes. It mostly just tased like lemon, but it wasn't bad. Australian Wagyu filet: 8.5/10 - A cheaper version of Japanese Wagyu, this cut is super tender and delicious. But don't expect it to melt in your mouth like the Japanese ones. Snowbeef Wagyu 4oz: 10/10 - The beef just melted in my mouth. The marbling on this cut is exquisite and it is SO rich. You honestly don't need more than 3-4oz if you're getting sides. It's that rich. Overall, we definitely recommend this place. Great service and ambience for just right for a special night out. The family members with me on this night had never been before and they were gushing. All three of the loved their meals. Got a couple drinks for happy hour and they tasted really good. Once we got to the table the waiter was really nice and informative of the menu and different steaks. I do want to say this places is expensive for what you get. For apps we got the fried lobster and these were so amazing but costed $95. They were crunchy, had lots of flavor and really good. For this day we had a reservation so they knew it was a birthday celebration. They gave us a special menu that had a "Happy Birthday" on the top. This little touch goes a long way. The waiter was one of the best waiters I've had in my life 10/10. He helped detail the menu and explained to us all about the specific dishes and where their meat came from. He helped us pick certain dishes that he recommended as his favorites and was one of the kindest workers we've ever came across. The atmosphere here was perfect for an intimate dinner experience with my loved one. The lighting was a dim setting, the seating was comfortable and spacey. My prime rib was excellent. It came as part of a Sunday special deal and was noted on the menu as a 12-oz cut. And it was a very generous 12-oz I will say. In fact, it seemed everyone was happy. Wifey had the lamb chops and was ecstatic. Other choices around the table included halibut, salmon, and a fillet mignon. I had to laugh at their mistakes. I asked for the balsamic vinaigrette on my salad but it came out with Italian dressing. But it was pretty good Italian. Then, when the meat came out with the asparagus and not the green beans, well, the grilled asparagus was just so good too. This is probably the best steakhouse I've been to. Mind you, the special steaks (like waygu) are priced like you are in one of the best steakhouses. But the regular steaks are reasonable for a higher end place. I had the regular new York strip -- there was a waygu version that cost 3x, but I went for the regular. It's was quite excellent. The steaks come with no sides -- you must order them separately and the portions are large enough for about 4 people to share. Some of the appetizers were superb -- particularly the lamb lollipops. They didn't always appear on the menu so you might need to ask. Several of us considered just ordering a few of these instead of the regular menu offerings because they are so good. I found the lobster tail appetizer a bit over-breaded -- enough so that you couldn't really make out the flavor of the lobster ... It could have been chicken for all I could tell -- this is the one dish I thought was poorly conceived. This was my first visit and the inside is classy and beautiful, like any chain expensive steakhouse, their bar is lovely and I like the area of St. Louis downtown that this is located in. A very nice and well-kept part of the city with shops and nice hotels nearby and free parking. We had a delicious wedge salad which we asked them to chop up for us before bringing out with wonderful dressing and delicious bleu cheese as well as the shrimp cocktail app which was probably the best shrimp I've ever had and the cocktail sauce served with it was phenomenal... you could taste the horseradish spice and it was fresh and delicious with three huge chilled shrimp. The only issue is that the server was kind'of judgy to us when he found out that we'd already eaten and didn't plan to get more than lite bites like a salad and some apps before heading to The Muny for a show. Our friends ordered a large steak and had several drinks - so I'm sure he still got a fair tip. I understand a place that sells $500+ steaks expects to make a killing on tips - but not everyone is coming in to spend that and we sat in the bar area on purpose. Second time at 801 chop and it definitely was a good experience. This is my friends favorite spot and she loves coming here. She wanted to celebrate her birthday so we happily obliged. I will say parking is not easy. Since I've only been here twice now, I don't think I fully understood the situation. There is very little parking and I drove around trying to find parking for some time. They do offer valet, but I had no cash (lesson learned for next time). I finally figured out I could park in the ritz garage- so definitely recommend that. It's a paid garage, but it's a spot. If it's a busy eve, you won't find many other options. The martini was delicious and had its own unique spin on it. We got an array of food to eat and split including: - petite shellfish platter: I'm not a huge fish gal, this was more for my friends. I had a couple pieces and it was super fresh! - chophouse salad: I loved this salad! The dressing is so light and a great combo of flavors. - garlic mashed potatoes: probably some of the best mashed potatoes you'll ever have. - lobster Mac n cheese: again, not a big fish gal but the Mac itself was great and the pieces of lobster were huge! - grilled broccolini: fresh and seasoned well - meatballs: so good! My business partner and I were here to celebrate a new acquisition, and found Chophouse to be the best steakhouse in St Louis that was open that day. Before we got inside, I was immediately impressed with the design of the exterior, followed by continuity of my impression with how well the inside was decorated, and the fengshui. The maitre'd was incredibly warm, and quickly brought us to an available table, and the servers were very quick to come and bring us some delicious bread. My partner and I had quite the appetite, so we each ordered a 16 oz ribeye, then got broccolini, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, beer battered onion rings, and each got a bowl of lobster bisque. For those who have been here, just as an FYI, this is enough for two meals if not three each and I did not realize the portions were going to be as large as they were. First came the lobster bisque, which I may recommend instead of bowl you get a cup, as this portion itself could be a meal. It was an absolutely exquisite dish, and incredibly well made and poured (perfect mix of flavors). Next on to the main entree (the ribeye) which it was my mistake not following the reviews and getting the steak rare. I got the medium rare, and it was a bit chewier than expected which most people have written in their reviews, and almost a well done. The portion definitely felt like it was closer to a 22 oz, so maybe I got someone else's order (in that case, it was perfect, but, I don't want to hide any details, so I will remove one one star. The garlic mashed potatoes were perfectly fluffy, and garlic (and if I may add, mashed), the broccolini was tender and a got palat cleanser for each bite of steak, and the onion rings (my first time ordering at a steak house) were quite a bit of fun, and were exactly as onion rings should be. First timers here! Thought we'd try a new place for date night. I was disappointed that I received the wrong steak, when they brought it they didn't tell you what they were placing in front of you, I was supposed to have a petite wet aged steak, when I got the receipt I was charged for a dry aged so unsure which steak I actually had. We were also not advised the truffle butter was an additional cost. The tuna tartar was not great and we did have our server take it, but we were still charged. Keep in mind when ordering entrees sides are additional and not included in entree price. I do love how they deliver your food on a table versus the traditional of a server carrying it. They also cover your food with a towel before it arrives to you. They say there is a dress code but some people were wearing flip flops, one women was wearing a bikini top and see through pants, some people were wearing tshirts. If they do in fact have a dress code I wish they'd enforce it. It looks high end on the inside, just think it be nice for to reflect that with dress code as well. We were seated immediately for our reservation at 7! For a fancy restaurant, it had a more casual feel and was pretty loud. Some people were dressed in suits but we also some people dressed in hoodies and sweat shorts - I'd say unless they change their rules you would be fine going to dinner wearing anything. It was as big as garnish you would cut for a taco (see pic). Waiter rushed us the entire meal came every 3-5 min (with still an empty restaurant) that was still over $150. The only saving grace was the delicious desserts. We enjoyed both of our so much which was perfect since we were so hungry from our prison meal portions. I get it, it's a discounted night, but it's not free. I've spent a lot of money both personally and professionally since you opened both places. I've tipped 20-40% every time. I've had some good ones, but the staff that rolls eyes during happy hour or Sunday nights has to get over it. DELISH! The service was impeccable and the food really shocked me. It is expensive but absolutely worth it. The mussels were fantastic and fresh, the risotto was flavorful, the bone marrow was SO good and I was a little nervous to try it.. put it on top of the bread and devour. Each steak was cooked to PERFECTION! I took my waitresses recommendation and got the down home shrimp on top of mine.. so good!!! I really liked the lobster mac and the scalloped potatoes as well! you cannot go wrong with anything you try! The bartenders were also fantastic and created their version of an expresso martini..
