And old school St Louis restaurant that's been a round a long time. Reason being: because it's doing things right. Take your pic of a meat option - they're all excellent. And don't go thinking you need the larger cut of prime rib - the smaller cut is still huge! lol. Great atmosphere to the place. A real attention detail to service at this place. You'll pay up - but sometimes - you just need to.

We reserved a table on a Sunday evening to take advantage of the Prime Rib special. I had been craving it and Kreis is the place to go. Upon arrival, we were greeted quickly at the host stand and would be seated right away. We were in the back dining area; I was glad as I might have had words with a woman who somehow thought we could enter the restaurant without opening the door. She took offense because the cold air came in with our entry. Rude guest aside, when seated, we were right on top of another table, that was the only downside. Our server was attentive and friendly. He took care of us, and kept up with our drinks, and made sure we were taken care of throughout the meal. Even being from St. Louis I don't love toasted ravioli but that was our appetizer, and I found then to be very good. The filling was plentiful and tasty, and they were cooked perfectly. The special comes with a Caesar or House salad, queen cut prime rib with Au Jus and horseradish, plus a choice of side and dessert. I went with a baked potato and chose warm apple strudel for the dessert. I forgot to snap a picture of the salad; it was a decent salad. When my prime rib dinner came out, I was shocked at the size! Of the prime rib and of the baked potato. The cut was rare, the jus was flavorful, but I am all about the horseradish sauce, so good! I had enough meat and potato for 2 more meals! This meal satisfied my prime rib craving! The warm apple strudel was shared, and it was pretty tasty.

Kreis' sent us a gift card for the NYE debacle and we used it today. Let's just say, it was worth the wait! Nate and Mike were very personable and helpful. Mike provided plenty of suggestions and offered to have my daughter's steak cooked more thoroughly when she ordered it wrong. My son and daughter both got steaks with potato pancakes and sliced potatoes. Both complimented on the flavor of the steak and side. My husband got the Sunday special (caesar salad, prime rib, twice baked potato and cheesecake). I got the caprese salad and salmon. Everything was delicious! Then, Mike brought out complimentary desserts because of the situation that happened on NYE. Talk about customer service, Kreis'! You just earned a new customer!! We were the only table in the downstairs section. It was quiet but the music provided a nice addition to our experience!

By far the best spot for seafood n steak! This spot been here for ages n you can tell. They r known for their scallops but 20$ for two. Mouth watering prime rib and ribeye. Will be stuffed with left overs later. Our table whole time made noises enjoying food then talking forreal. Well worth the price of over $300 for four people. Did open table app for reservations for bfs moms bday. For a real fresh cheese cake for that. Everything was fresh and rich. Chill but romantic vibes. Known historic spot for stl people. Highly recommend! Nothing compares!

So in between the perfect Manhattan up and the delish Espresso Martini was one of those reminders why the classic old school places are the best and why we go out... spectacular NY Strip with an amazing special peppercorn sauce and the traditional classic @kreissteakhouse double baked potato all with the most amazing service - thanks Richard #datenight

Best prime rib in the city. I love their horse radish. Best to make a reservation. The service is also excellent.

We came to Kreis' for the first time to celebrate a milestone anniversary. My husband let them know ahead of time about our special occasion. I understand we aren't the only ones celebrating but we were sat in the table directly outside the kitchen in the back room right next to another large party with kids so our whole meal was very noisy. I ordered an old fashioned which wasn't great but I understand this isn't a cocktail restaurant. I would likely stick to wine next time. We enjoyed Caesar salads, baked potatoes, and I did have a great steak. The cheesecake with a firecracker was a fun touch for an anniversary. But unfortunately the atmosphere of not being able to talk to each other and with a constant view of the kitchen didn't have us in a celebratory mood.

Went to Kreis' Steakhouse for the first time this weekend for a special occasion, and it was awesome! The ambiance was perfect, and the food was even better. We loved the crab cake appetizer and the prime rib (paired with asparagus)--absolutely delicious. The only area for improvement would be the service. While generally a pleasant experience, it felt a bit rushed for a nicer dinner spot. It was a Saturday night, so I get that it was busier than usual, but a slower pace would have been appreciated. Overall, we had a great time and will definitely be back soon--hopefully to try their prime rib special on a Sunday!

A true upscale steakhouse that exceeds all expectations. Kreis' Steakhouse simply does everything right. Crisp white linen tablecloths, impeccably dressed servers in formal uniforms, and an atmosphere that whispers elegance without feeling stuffy. The service was impeccable, and it's very clear the team takes great pride in what they do. The bartender whipped up these dirty martinis lighting fast! The star of the show was the prime rib! That said, everything was delicious: the stuffed shrimp appetizer, the seared scallops, and twice baked potato were all perfection. So thankful to have restaurants like this here in St. Louis, a timeless classic.

Let's be honest--steakhouses are not the first place you'd think of for a pescatarian-friendly meal, but Kreis Steakhouse in St. Louis has something up its sleeve. It's #stlouispescatarianapproved Here, seafood lovers like me get to enjoy the magic of steakhouse cooking, but with a pescatarian twist. And honestly? It works. I think steakhouses overcompensate on their seafood and veggie options because the steaks are second nature. For my main course, I created a #pescatarian grazing board: crab bisque, garlic shrimp, and crab cakes. Every bite was delicious. The crab bisque was rich, creamy and comforting, the garlic shrimp was perfectly tender, and the crab caves had the perfect crispiness. We started off with the tuna tartare because, let's face it, I can bully my friends into eating fish. As we sat down, we made a new friend--David, who's been working at Kreis for decades. So if you stop by, tell him Ace, Sadie, and Sara say hello!

    Let's go!!

Great meal with a great customer! I'm not a big prime rib fan, but having read many reviews, I knew I had to order the Queen Cut. I'm so glad I did! It was prepared medium rare, as requested, and it melted in my mouth. The classy steakhouse vibe, white tablecloths, professional waitstaff, all complimented the meal.

I was early and went after my usual prime rib. This time I ate in the dining room and it was pretty quiet at first. Later on, the room started to fill with tables celebrating various things. Anniversaries, reunions, business dinners, etc. A bit out of the way but good eats.

What a hidden gem! I had no idea this place was here. Service was spectacular. They make you feel like a VIP. It's great for a date night or business dinner. Upscale, intimate. Food was spectacular. I had a filet with a peppercorn rub along with a Caesar salad. All perfection. I would definitely go back. Plenty of parking as well. I know that's a plus for many people!!

Mayfair salad was good, needed salt.

Their social hour menu looked amazing and there are a few items I would definitely like to come back to try! Once we were seated, we started with the tuna poke, calamari, and buratta. I could have eaten the poke as my main- it was so, so delicious! For my main, I had the special which included a Caesar salad, petite filet, and crab stuff shrimp with sautéed spinach. We also ordered a few sides for the table and the scalloped potatoes were easily my favorite. The salad was wonderful and I really enjoyed my main course although my steak was a tad overdone for my liking (I ordered medium and it was more medium well - not sure if it was just a fluke, but next time I would probably order it medium rare.) I had a bite of each of the 3 desserts we ordered and the chocolate lava cake was my personal favorite. Our server was super attentive and the courses were well paced. All around amazing dining experience and looking forward to coming back!

FLEMING'S STEAKHOUSE - BOO HISS!!!…read more My sister Fay and I decided to treat ourselves to an elegant meal at Flemings in Frontenac. My meal was $85 (8 oz hand-cut filet mignon with 6 oz North Atlantic lobster tail & warm drawn butter).  Fay ordered 8 oz hand-cut filet mignon and stuffed shrimp with sautéed spinach, parmesan‑crusted Campari tomato & port wine demi‑glace for $68, and we shared a side of sweet corn brûlée with a brown sugar crust for $18. First of all, the restaurant is not really elegant.  It's nice enough, but no real ambience to make you feel special.  I wonder if Flemings used to be elegant before the ownership stopped caring about providing the current clientele an uplifted experience. We requested that our waiter Will, prepare our starter salads (candied walnuts, dried cranberries, red onion, campari tomato) in to-go boxes so we wouldn't fill up before our entree.  He brought a loaf of OK sourdough bread to the table (for $6 more you could upgrade to Milkbread with Lavendar Honey butter).  It took an exceptionally long time for the boxed salads to arrive and they mostly looked like a box full of lettuce.  Very unimpressive.  When our entrees arrived, the corn brûlée was delicious, but the steaks were hardly seasoned, not as tender as I expected, and undercooked  - my medium was a little closer to rare.  They forgot to bring the drawn butter and the lobster tail was still RAW IN THE MIDDLE. I only told the manager who happened to be walking by that my lobster was still raw. We let the unseasoned undercooked non-melt-in-your-mouth steaks slide. When I showed him the lobster which I had already cut into a few pieces, the manager only offered to cook it some more. I thought he would replace it with a fresh fully cooked lobster tail. At first this yahoo, who had been walking around shaking other people's hands extended a napkin for me to place the lobster tail in for him to take to the kitchen.  I placed the lobster tail on a bread plate.  I also expected that he would adjust our check for the inconvenience. NOPE! While waiting for my lobster to cook some more, we overheard the table behind us complain to the waiter that their lobster was undercooked and their steak was less than tender.  The waiter offered them free drinks and free dessert, and I believe this older white couple settled on returning the food and not paying anything. I'm usually a stickler about providing a generous tip for the wait staff, but this time since the wait staff did nothing to improve our experience, we left a 10% gratuity along with a handwritten paragraph at the bottom of the check explaining why.  We weren't angry, just disappointed.  With drinks, tax and tip, we learned a $240 lesson about Flemings.

My filet au poivre and my husband's French dip were forgettable at best. My steak was overcooked (ordered medium rare and came out close to medium well). There was no peppery flavor at all. My cocktail, on the other hand, was delicious and well made (old fashioned) and our server was efficient, helpful, and timely. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere. We started with the Korean fried cauliflower and it was honestly some of the best I've ever had. The batter was light, fluffy, and crispy, and the gochujang sauce with the mayo was sweet and sticky in the best way. Since it's a butchery, we had to try the steaks. I ordered the 4oz filet Oscar style. The meat was tender and very well seasoned, the crab was fresh, and the homemade hollandaise really pulled it all together. My husband had the ribeye. It was a flavorful cut, a little fatty (as ribeye tends to be), but exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The steaks come with a twice-baked potato and vegetable (or you can swap for different vegetables). The potato was flavorful but fairly dense. We also did the bread service - it was good, but felt a bit pricey for the portion. We ended with the flourless chocolate torte, which was very rich and the perfect way to finish the meal - especially on Valentine's Day. Overall, the food was good and the menu is solid. The quality was there, but the portions, bread service and sides didn't fully meet expectations. That said, it was still a lovely experience and a great date-night spot.

When we were debating which cuts to order, she delivered a detailed explanation of each one, and even brought a platter of them out for us to see. Definitely an upscale place, so budget for that. Here's what we got: Roasted Bone marrow: 8/10 - came with quite a few bones, and the marrow was rich and buttery. It truly was a melt in your mouth experience, and with the addition of the arugula and red onions on the side, it was lovely. Brussels sprouts: 9/10 - these had such a lovely flavor to them and the honey Dijon sauce was delicious. We prefer Brussels a little more charred but otherwise these were a hit. Garlic mashed potatoes with Boursin: 100/10 - SO good. Best mashed potatoes we've ever had. You HAVE to add the cheese, it's so worth it. They're ridiculously creamy, flavorful, and overall, just tasty. Broccolini: 7.5/10 - this was average. We wanted them charred a bit more and also more red pepper flakes. It mostly just tased like lemon, but it wasn't bad. Australian Wagyu filet: 8.5/10 - A cheaper version of Japanese Wagyu, this cut is super tender and delicious. But don't expect it to melt in your mouth like the Japanese ones. Snowbeef Wagyu 4oz: 10/10 - The beef just melted in my mouth. The marbling on this cut is exquisite and it is SO rich. You honestly don't need more than 3-4oz if you're getting sides. It's that rich. Overall, we definitely recommend this place. The mashed potatoes especially were enough to make us want to come back.

The food, interior, and service are top notch, and comes it the highest prices in the area. The menu focuses on steaks but the special menu offers additional seafood option. You can also order items from the 801 Fish restaurant across the street if red meat is not your preference. Complimentary loaves of sour dough bread were delivered to the table as we enjoyed our beverages. Crab Cake $27 - This was one delicious lumpy crab cake with succulent pieces of crab, big enough to share with two people. Down Home Shrimp $26 - 3 large pieces of shrimp on top of mouth watering mash potato like sauce that you want to lick clean. You can add on additional shrimp. Single Cut Prime Rib 16oz $66 - It was cooked perfectly medium rare and very tender. I didn't love that it sat in a pool of au jus, but was delicious. Brussels sprouts $15 - Large portion, more than plenty for 4 people. It was tender and very saucy. Garlic Mashed potatoes $16 - Semi-lumpy mashed potato with bits of skin. I was hoping it might be served with gravy similar to the shrimp sauce, but there was no companion. Cheesecake with blueberry sauce $16 - Large piece of cheesecake, very rich and smooth. It was nice that the dessert selected by the birthday guest was complimentary. If you dine here and park in the lot behind 801 Fish, you can get your parking ticket validated at 801 Fish. There was no place to check in for a table and there weren't separate lines for eat in and carry out. I got there first and didn't want to order before my friend got there. I saw an empty table so I sat down to wait. I was nicely told by one of the workers who was carrying around table numbers that I needed to be assigned a table number first. It was unclear when or how to get assigned a number, maybe when you order? Although the line moved pretty quickly it kept growing so when my friend arrived I ended up ordering online. Then I had to ask for a table. I wish they had clear signage or some way to inform about the process. I had the flying avocado turkey wrap which was fresh and delicious, although I didn't taste any avocado. Also ordered the green chili queso with chips which was great. I placed another order to go to take the Cajun shrimp boil home for dinner. It was good, too, although I should have had the hot dish for lunch and taken home the cold wrap. I'd like to try the avocado toast. Next time I will stand in line and order.

I had my first dinner of my stay at Olive + Oak, and it blew me away from the moment I laid my eyes on it. From the unsuspecting street outside, the giant windows glow with the warm, sparkling light from within. An elegant dining room with a beautiful bar and a good amount of hustle and bustle. I felt like I was at an upscale New Orleans joint. Very cozy. Service was just as beautiful. Our server was extremely nice, new the menu backwards and forwards, and rattled off the nightly specials without hesitation. And on top of all of that, when we were getting some stuff to-go, she threw in more bread for us! You can't train that level of service. That's just a good person. Onto the food. We started off with the Blue Crab Gratin (calabrian chili, celery + pretzel bread). This was ooey, gooey, cheesy, delicious, had a fair amount of crab in it, had a nice little kick, and the sliced, crunchy pretzel bread dippers were exquisite. Something seasonal that isn't on their menu anymore, we ordered an Okonomiyaki, which is a savory Japanese pancake, basically, covered in sauce. Wow, this thing was done well. Very reminiscent of the authentic thing I've had in Japan. Very nice. Another dish that isn't on the menu anymore, the Catfish dish. It was slightly Asian and on top of some sort of risotto rice. I can't remember exactly, but I do remember that it was very well cooked, had a nice char. An eclectic dish that came together very nicely. I also got to try some of the Rabbit Crepe (port wine braised rabbit, blueberry, fennel, arugula + kenny's bleu gouda crepe). Some people might shudder at the idea of eating rabbit. Those people need to grow up. Rabbit is one of the most succulent, delicious meats out there, and in this wonderful flavor combination, in a crepe. This chef is genius. I could have downed two of these things. We finished off the night with the recommended Cloud Cake (vanilla chiffon cake, coconut pastry cream, coconut + whipped cream icing). This thing was de-ca-dent. A nice, thicc sponge, a very coconuty cream, and a whipped icing with lots of coconut pulp in it. So heavenly. Overall, my socks were blown off. Not only does St. Louis have good food, this was a better meal than I had in Nashville and Kansas City. Who would have guessed. I would love to come back.
