Burger of the month
Andrew W.

Service was very good! I was visiting on a work trip but the waiter helped me get around! It was pretty busy on a workday lunch. I liked my burger of the month but it wasn't my favorite burger of all time. My milkshake was fantastic and they even gave me pretty much another full glass of "extra". That's how you do it right! I was hoping to convince my coworkers to eat dinner here but unfortunately they chose somewhere else. I would recommend and hope to be back one day!

My family and I had lunch at 5 Star and enjoyed it. We were seated very quickly and the service was good. We also enjoyed the music played throughout the restaurant. My daughter ordered The Breakfast of Champions, a side of onion rings, and a vanilla milkshake. She really liked her burger (especially the egg on top) and rings. She said she would like her shake a little sweeter but enjoyed the consistency and appreciated that it wasn't hard to drink. She loved how crispy the onion rings were and that they onion itself wasn't slimy. My husband ordered the Patty melt, coleslaw, and cheese curds. He said it was cooked to perfection, juicy, had a great sauce, and the bread was toasted just right. He liked the cheese curds but would have liked it more if they had marinara sauce as an option. He did not like the coleslaw and thought it was bland. He appreciated that they had his favorite beer on tap, the Civil Life Brown Ale. I ordered the Blackened Barramundi with a side of fries. It was good but I would have preferred more seasoning. It lacked salt but the sauce helped. The fries were ok. I loved that although they are a burger place, there were many options for people who don't eat beef. We happened to go right a happy hour unknowingly and they have daily (even weekends). They have a great happy hour menu. Looking forward to trying new things in the future.

We really enjoyed this place. Stopped in for dinner one evening, and it was definitely a lively atmosphere. We were seated immediately. Service as friendly and efficient. Prices were also quite fair. The food was very good.. We had the patty melt and the Gorgonzola bacon burger. Both were tasty, as were the fries and coleslaw. Absolutely no complaints on food. The meat was even cooked to temp, which doesn't always happen, and served very promptly. We'd definitely return.

Bison Burger and fries

5 star burgers has some of the best burgers in St. Louis hands down! I had (and always get) the Bison burger and fries! It was cooked perfectly! I also decided to grab an off menu drink from the bar, a whiskey sour, and I was extremely impressed. Both the waitress and the bartender were so gracious and complementary of how drinks are made, and the skill behind who was making the drinks. It was evident when I took my first sip, lol! 5 star burgers is in Clayton on Maryland along the strip and it seems like a small restaurant from the outside, but when you walk in is actually a lot bigger than it looks like. The bar area is really small so if you go for happy hour I will suggest going right at the beginning if you want to get a decent seat. this is one of my favorite places and I will make sure to come back again.

My friend Bob and I have been going all over St. Louis looking for the perfect burger. After a recommendation by a frequent customer we tried 5 Star Burgers. We went with our friend Barb. We each walked in at different times because Barb beat us there and Bob went in while I fed the meter. Why mention this? Because each one of us was greeted. This place was very clean and everyone was friendly and nice. Our lunch drinks (read no alcohol) were perfect (trust me people CAN and HAVE screwed up iced tea). Barb had the Korean Hot Fried Chicken. No bun. She is not looking for the best burger. She said the chicken was very good and a bite of chicken, slaw and peppers was perfect. She said the chicken was good on it's own but that combo really brought out the flavors. I had the Magic Mushoom burger. I love grilled onions and mushrooms. My burger was very good. The burger had a bit of sweetness... not sure where that came from. At first I was disappointed but then decided there was something very different but comfortable about it. (Not sure why those words popped in my head but it's my first reaction so I'm gonna go with it. Barb and I split a Mixed Basket of Regular and Sweet Potato Fries and I even brought some home. Bob had regular fries and couldn't eat them all. Our drinks were refilled before we asked and after mentioning how crisp and tasty the pickle slices were I rec'd a little cup of a couple more. We were asked twice how the food was and when we finished our plates were removed almost immediately. I know what you are thinking; what did Bob think of his burger. Bob is a purist so when he gets a burger he gets it plain. He wants to taste it. When he ordered he asked if it was one patty or two and was told one which he appreciated because he doesn't eat a ton. That being said, these burgers were huge. Bob bit into his and said, "some may say they are serving Angus meat, but these guys are really doing it". Bob loved this burger. It was super big but he ate it ALL! Kudos to 5 Star!! Best burger by Bob! Yup, I'll definitely be back!

We just moved back to the area and were craving a non-fast-food burger, and 5 Star Burgers popped up as highly recommended. I placed a to-go order online and drove over to pick it up. This is a really cute restaurant, located in a charming area. Parking is limited, had to parallel park. Staff was very friendly and had my order hot and ready. Everything we ordered was very good and had a hefty portion size as well. The cheeseburgers were pretty big and had fresh toppings, and the fries are cut in house. Although it might not have been the BEST meal of my life, I'd gladly order from here again over a run of the mill chain. I would say it was worth my money.

Mint chocolate chip ice cream shooter.
Sara C.

The name is not a lie - the burgers are really five star. I ordered the five star burger and the patty was flavored SO well. Just the perfect amount of salt and pepper to bring out the flavor of the beef without being overpowering. The pickle chips were deliciousssss and the perfect thickness for a burger. The burger prices listed are just for the burger, fries are extra and worth it. When I first saw the fries I thought they would be generic fries, but they are so perfectly crispy and salted. I got a speakeasy to drink and a mint chocolate chip ice cream shooter to finish, and both were delicious. I love that they sell the $1 ice cream shooters, which are just a small scoop of ice cream in a small cone. It was the perfect lil nightcap (nonalcoholic) to end the evening. I was full so I wouldn't have wanted a full dessert, but the ice cream shooter hit the spot. The service was great. I sat outside and was checked on several times by my waitress to ensure that I had everything I needed. The food came out quick. There is plenty of seating. There's paid parking right in front of the restaurant, and free parking in the neighborhood around the corner if you're willing to walk a very short walk. I love that this is a chill restaurant with great food. It's not super fancy, it's relatively cheap, and it serves up great eats.

First time trying this place as it is conveniently located close to my job. Decent size place that offers indoor and outdoor seating which is always a plus in my book! Upon arrival I wasn't greeted, stood there for quite a bit actually. The person in front of me got seated and they never came back to seat me. Luckily there were spots at the bar so I took that instead. The lady bartender was extremely nice and provided excellent customer service! I opted for the Gateway Burger medium-well that was cooked to perfection. The temperature was right on. The burger lacked seasoning just a little bit the toppings were fresh and the bun was perfect. The fries were nice and crisp! Though they were packed, the food came out really fast!

Great spot for a casual lunch or dinner. It took us a second to find a spot to park on the street. We were seated pretty quickly. They have indoor and outdoor seating along with a bar. We got the 5 star burger, patty melts my heart and some fries to share. Both of the burgers were cooked perfectly and were delicious. The chopped chillies added the perfect amount of spice to the patty melt. The restaurant is family friendly and had a kids menu. The service was a bit slow but they were busy.

Jake L.

A burger joint that the target audience is higher middle class people. So a "gourmet"burger that don't come with fries are included in the experience.

Cristy M.

Food is always delicious, and well priced! The five star burger is worthy of its name. The sweet potato fries with the aioli are INCREDIBLE! Service can be a bit slow at times (it seems to be mostly younger servers), but it's worth the wait.

Patty melt, and a bowl of chili
Ron W.

I had never been to Five Star Burgers before last week. I was prepared, for some reason, to be underwhelmed. My son had given me a mediocre report. (Clearly he has defective taste buds from his mother's side of the family.) But I was nearby and thought I would stop in with my wife and give it a try. I had the patty melt and it was excellent. And then I had a wild idea and ordered a bowl of chili. I mean, what the heck. It's spring! Let's celebrate ! And it wasn't even cold outside! This was so terribly beyond my comfort zone. But how very glad I am that I did! This is some really good chili. I dipped the patty melted in and suddenly I had a Chili melt! I drug my fries through and I had chili cheese fries! And then I just used an old fashioned spoon and I realized that this is some of the best chili I've had in a very long time. I'm hoping they serve it all summer and not just during the winter months. So if you haven't been to five star burgers, I suggest you dash in. And no matter what you order be daring and have the chili!

I recently stopped by after an appointment in STL. It was right at lunch time and it was also, opening day for the Cardinals. So when I entered, the line to order was already long. To my surprise, the one lady taking orders, moved that line quickly. So I give her major kudos. When it was turn to order, I was ready. I went with a Double and swapped out the American Cheese for Pepper Jack. For my side, I tried their Salt&Pepper Onion Rings. After ordering, I took my number stick and took a seat at the bar. Once seated, the bartender welcomed me and I ordered a draft beer. I barely had completed my Wordle and my burger basket was being slid in front of me. Before taking my first bite, I admired the crisp edges and actually ran my finger around them. My first bite was heaven. It proved to me that all a good smash burger needs is; ketchup, mustard, onion and pickles. The Onion Rings were made in house and the simple seasoning of Salt & Pepper made them a winner. While dining at the bar, I learned a new trick. If you're going to be sitting at the bar to enjoy your smash burger, you can order it from the bartender. That's right, no standing in line to order, you can go straight to the bar. Great staff. They all hustle and provide friendly and professional service.

It must be attracting the wrong kind of…read morecustomers, the kind of people more than happy to regale you for hours on end with their opinion about the seasoning on the tendies at Cane's. I don't need to know these people personally to be able to name the 10 CDs they owned back in the 1990s. (If they weren't around back in the '90s, obviously I wouldn't want their opinion about anything.) Shake Shack isn't as good as Hi Pointe, but it's good enough that I wouldn't drive past a Shake Shack to get to a Hi Pointe if, for some reason, I just had to drop a Section 8 rent payment on my lunch. I was only there yesterday because I was meeting people, and I figured I'd go all out since I might never return. I didn't get the most elaborate sandwich, but more so because the specialty selections sounded, erm, ridiculous to me, to use currently acceptable terminology. But you best believe I got both a shake and the weirdly pale-looking cheese goo on my fries. I notice they nickel and dime you on various add-ons and options, e.g. whipped cream on your shake and what have you, which seems kinda pathetic, but it still ends up being less than you'd spend at a Five Guys. But that's true of literally anywhere you can shop in 2026, including Hermès. I appreciate the fact that you can order via kiosk, like at a Panera. It saves you from having to explain how you'd like your sandwich to the staff, which may or may not consist of Ladue residents. (They honestly seemed lovely.) Ordering my Double ShackBurger, I noticed that it comes standard with lettuce and tomato but no pickle or onion, which are available free of charge, so I went ahead and took care of that. The weird cheese gloop on the fries is only $0.50 extra, but I don't know how necessary it is. As its complexion (so to speak) suggests, it lacks the tang of stadium nacho cheese. It's not bad, but I would have been fine with just ketchup. Crinkle-cut fries are no one's preference (literally no one), but these might be the GOAT crinkle-cut fries. They're crisp to the point where they held up even under the gloop, but they weren't all dried out. They wanted another $0.50 for the whipped cream on my Cookies and Cream Shake. Are they saving up to go play Pac-Man? The shake was nearly impossible to suck through a straw when I got it (ahem), and that's even before you account for the bits of off-brand Oreo cookie. I wish they'd give you one of those bigger straws, not just a regular soda straw. If they're doing that for the environment, I might have to get the president involved. For some reason, they made my burger twice. They brought out a tray with everything on it, including my burger, and then later they brought out another burger. As a result, I ended up eating two double cheeseburgers, cheese fries and a shake. It wasn't my finest hour. I shudder to think how many calories I consumed. The guys I was there with (no Diddy), who were all runners, were shocked and appalled. They're not ginormous burgers, but I notice the buns are a little bit smaller, so the meat and various toppings hang out over the edge. It's an odd bun, weirdly soft and chewy, with a flavor that calls to mind the more premium/non-WIC hot dog buns they carry at the nearby Schnucks. The meat didn't seem to be as high quality as the meat at the aforementioned Hi Pointe, but the toppings were, uh, top notch. Overall, I'd describe the burger as an elevated Dave's Double from Wendy's, which, if you know ball, is the highest compliment you can pay anything, let alone a burger. I'd be curious to know where people are eating, if they don't like Shake Shack, but maybe I don't want to know? It'll be a while until my system is rid of all that ground beef, and longer still until I've recovered financially.

They remind me of the diners of the 1960s. Crinkle fries were (maybe) double-dips but at room temperature, and we went back to the counter to get fresh fries. It is a Trojan horse for one of the best burgers in St. Louis (my wife says I'm being dramatic for calling it THE best; I say I am not NOT going back for another). We enjoyed everything we order: the pork belly burnt ends and cashew chicken wings, and a coffee & cardamom old fashioned that sounds like a personality disorder but tastes like a vibe, smoky, a touch sweet, and very drinkable year-round. The Sam Elliott burger, BBQ sauce, bacon, crunchy onions, brioche, is named for a man who has never disappointed anyone, and neither does the sandwich. And the meatloaf is NOT your grandma's brick: tender, charred at the edges, laid over silky mashed potatoes with broccolini, perhaps closer to a chop steak than a loaf in the best possible way. Vibe is farm-chic: old church pews, repurposed interior doors, a proper bar up front, plus a patio and rooftop for when the weather cooperates. Fun fact -- it's named after the blue duck Billy Madison paints in elementary school, which is a fantastic piece of trivia and tells you absolutely nothing accurate about the actual restaurant. 4.7 Stars. Picking Nits: the counter-order setup is efficient, but it sets expectations in the wrong direction for the first 90 seconds, you brace for fast-casual and instead get something considerably more ambitious. Food comes out fast once you've ordered, which is great if you're hungry and slightly jarring if you wanted a slow, lingering dinner. And the Billy Madison naming is charming trivia but entirely misleading as a vibe preview, no complaints about the actual restaurant, just the branding expectations it sets. If The Blue Duck were a character: Ron Swanson. Hear me out. If Ron ate here, he'd be suspicious of the entire experience until his first bite of protein -- the counter ordering, the repurposed doors, a burger named after a fellow mustachioed American, all of it registering as potentially too clever. Then the Sam Elliott hits his plate, he takes one bite, and the skepticism dissolves into the quiet respect of a man who has found his people. Looks rustic. Has strong feelings about meat. Secretly sophisticated -- plays saxophone in a jazz club under a fake name, builds his own furniture, would 100% approve of the farm-chic decor once the protein has spoken. Presents as simple. Isn't.
