My friend and I have been here twice in the last couple months, before that it had been probably 12 years since I went. Last time I told him I could probably eat that meal everyday. We get the shrimp cocktail and I get the linguini and with shrimp and blistered tomatoes. The noodles are kind of buttery & garlicky. And the rolls are tasty too. Our server was seasoned & nice. This is definitely a 5-star restaurant! We absolutely loved it. The ambiance was perfect. We especially loved that there were options to dine outdoors under a covered patio or inside in the air conditioning. The food... OMG! Everything was absolutely delicious...from the scallops and crab cakes to the sea bass. Every dish was cooked to perfection, and we were incredibly impressed. The service made the experience even better. The manager and our server, Karen, were both outstanding. They were warm, attentive, and genuinely delightful, making us feel so welcome throughout our meal. We have all been there. Evening getting later, new town...where to go for dinner? That was us in St. Louis last weekend for our granddaughter's volleyball tournament. Google to the rescue and Oceano Bistro popped up. Close by, interesting menu... Cannot begin to express how outstanding our experience was. Warm inviting welcome (no reservation), to the table immediately. Met Marena as our server. Very friendly, super positive and very attentive, without being intrusive. Great menu and food was excellent. Great atmosphere. Max, one of the owners/managers came by the table to discuss the wine and we chatted for a bit about the restaurant and his road to opening Oceano. Our experience was so good we made arrangements to come back the next morning for brunch and sit at the bar as Marena was bartending. Brunch was outstanding as well. I struggled with deciding on where to go to celebrate my birthday. When I learned it was Clayton Restaurant week, we decided to try a place we haven't been in Clayton and chose Oceano Bistro. We had reservations so we were immediately seated. Our waiter, Maxwell was very helpful, friendly and provided exceptional service. My husband and I tried a glass of wine. My daughter had the Smoked Peach Martini. She thought is was OK. She wanted to the peach flavor to be more prevalent. For Clayton Restaurant week, they offered a 3 course meal for a great deal. We had the Maryland lump crab cakes, New England seafood chowder, Warm water sea bass, 12 ounce Prime New York strip, cheesecake, and flourless chocolate cake. My favorite of the appetizers was the crab cakes. They were very meaty and delicious. I enjoyed the chowder as well but I needed to add a little salt. My daughter had the strip which was cooked perfectly. She enjoyed it very much. My husband and I both had the sea bass. It was really good but our fish was not cooked the same. His was perfectly seared with crispy edges but still moist and flaky. Mine could have used more sear on it. The flavor was still good but where I thought it was good, he felt his was great. I chose the cheesecake for dessert and they chose the flourless chocolate cake. The cheesecake was good but the chocolate cake is the clear winner between the two. Oh, they also offered bread service at the beginning of our meal. The oil that they prepare for dipping was really good as well. We stumbled upon Oceana during lent. Happily, were able to make a same afternoon/early evening reservation. Walked in during happy hour - it was hopping!. We were just in time to order a calamari happy hour appetizer. it was hot can cooked perfectly. I then moved on to the halibut and orzo - it was exactly what I was looking for! A perfectly cooked halibut with orzo - nothing heavy. We did however have the cookies as dessert.....and while they take 15-20 minutes to cook - IT IS WORTH THE WAIT!! The cookies arrive hot and gooey to the table - yum. The only 2 drawbacks I will mention...it seemed very loud and we were sitting under one of the arches so we were trying to determine was the restaurant really that loud or were we getting conversations from other areas because of the arches? The other item I will mention is the website does not seem to be up to date with the latest selection - or maybe it needs to be broken out into Lunch and Dinner menus...a person in our party looked at the menu online and when he went to order, he wanted one of the sandwiches shown online (which was not identified as lunch only) and he was not able to order the sandwich. General observation: I would guestimate 90% of the seating is booth seating...it just seemed high and just an observation - not good, not bad. read more

We hosted a surprise engagement dinner for my brother at Oceano Bistro, and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish. I was the party planner for the night and had the pleasure of working with Max, their events manager, who was incredible, responsive, kind, and so easy to work with throughout the entire process. We had 12 people in a semi-private setting, and everything ran seamlessly. From helping select menu items to ensuring food came out on time and well-paced, the service was attentive without ever feeling rushed. Truly top-tier hospitality. We started with salads, then shared calamari, grilled prawns, and roasted vegetables--all delicious. Everyone ordered their own entrée, and every dish arrived hot, beautifully plated, and with generous portions. I had the scallops with Parmesan risotto, which were cooked perfectly. The cocktails were strong but well-balanced and thoughtfully made. We ended the night with a champagne toast, and the fathers ordered the peach cobbler--I snagged a bite, and it was amazing. I stopped by tonight for a quick bite to eat and Oceano, again didn't disappoint. With a European feel they have a great bar, wonderful staff and a big happy hour bar menu. At 5:00 the place was buzzing and the bar quickly filled up. I chose a Macon Villages, Bourgogne French Chardonnay and Ahi Tuna Roll - thinly sliced tuna covered an amazing, crunchy slaw dressed with a simple ginger mustard sauce. It was light, fresh and delicious. $10 for the wine and $14 for the tuna also makes it a fantastic value! The bar tender made it special by being friendly, helpful and welcoming. That along with the manager checking in to make sure everything was ok sets this happy hour apart. Oceano has become a mainstay in Clayton and this wasn't my first visit. It is always a delightful experience with a varied menu of delicious food for brunch, lunch and dinner. It's also a comfortable spot to just have a cocktail. Happy hour 3-6 M-F 2:30-4:30 on Saturdays. Choices for food range from $10 - $16 and with a wide variety including fries, flatbreads, Kobe sliders, crab cakes and more. We came here fairly late and I was afraid the kitchen would be closed. We came in and they were very welcoming and assured us the kitchen was still open and ready to take our order. I ordered the halibut and a side salad. The bread came out first and the olive oil had a pepper paste sprinkled in. The flavor was unreal. We asked the waitress/bartender what it was and she said it was a homemade paste they make and incorporate in some of the dishes. The flavor was amazing! Then our salads came out fresh and quick. Had lunch at Oceana on Tuesday with my daughter and her boyfriend, Kevin. Alex and I decided to split a BLTA and a Ceasar Salad. The Server brought us a BLTA split with the side salad that would have come with a sandwich. We went with the flow... If you are going to serve a BLTA...it needs to have a meaningful amount of bacon on it. Bacon leads, but I guess that is what we get for ordering a BLTA at a seafood restuarant. I had the pleasure of visiting this place for the first time and I was completely blown away! Delicious food, beautiful ambiance and awesome service! We started with the crab cakes for an appetizer and they were phenomenal, 3 crab cakes came with the order which I thought was a great value for crab cakes. I had the spinach salad and my aunt had the seafood chowder, both were delish! For my main course, I had the seafood linguine that had lobster crab, shrimp and mussels in the dish, it was good. A little oily, since it was an oil based sauce but very flavorful. My aunt had the halibut and she said it was superb. We finished with dessert, I had their seasonal strawberry cake which was outstanding and my aunt had the bread pudding which was paired with vanilla ice cream. Our server Berkeley was great, attentive and friendly with just the right amount of table touches. This was our first time going there but won't be our last. It is one of the few restaurants open all day in a Sunday and even though it was in Clayton, parking close to the restaurant was easy and parking was free on Sundays. We went for dinner on Mother's Day. We had reservations and even arrived a little early. The young host seemed unsure of himself as he led us to a table, stopping at a two-top that faced one of the TV screens of the nearby bar. (By my estimation, one of the worst seats in the room.) I was visibly surprised since the dining area was not yet busy and I could clearly see five or so empty tables in much better spots. My daughter suggested we be seated in a quieter area and we were led to the room that overlooked Brentwood Blvd. Phew! The server was quick and friendly. We split a Caesar salad, got the trout entree, the scampi, and a side of the potato cake. We even splurged on dessert: chocolate lava cake and the bread pudding. All in all, it was just an okay experience, nothing special, and the food did not elicit any happy food noises. Service was nice but we likely won't return. read more

I was there for dinner and I ordered the Pan Seared Alaskan Halibut and it was served with a vegetable orzo. The Halibut was cooked perfectly. Sometimes it's overcooked and dried out. The halibut was moist and flavorful. The halibut was complimented with a vegetable orzo. The orzo was also delicious. My taste buds were very happy. For me this meal was very filling. Clayton Restaurant Week is always great. We have gone to a lot of restaurants during this time. None have disappointed. We had gone earlier in January to Oceano. It was so good we decided to go this time again for restaurant week. The menu had not changed since the last one and I was happy because one of the menu items is lobster. You get two 6 oz lobster tails. They are prepared beautifully with drawn butter and a vegetable. Really delicious! The menu has three areas to choose. Apps, entrees and desserts. Base price is 59$. Last time I got halibut and it was fantastic. We had great service from Ran. He was attentive and super friendly. Thank you Ran! Manager/owner checked on us. That's a really nice thing to do. Visiting St. Louis for the weekend and wanting to try something new. My friend read highly praised reviews that led us to the Oceano Bistro. Upon entering, there was a huge crowd of people dressed in them for the Kentucky Dirby weekend crowding the bar but because we'd made reservations we were able to make our way through them to a table immediately. I will say the loudness from the bar messed up the ambiance for me. May have been a different experience if the bar was off to the side of the restaurant and not one step from the entrance. Or had they been in a private room for their viewing pleasures. Aside from the noise, the crab cakes were fresh and delicious, and I'd go a step further that it was a generous portion for the money you pay. I ordered the healthier option menu and chose the chicken salad. Please note that this menu changes, so where I was looking for an option in saw online, it was no longer available. So it could change with season. My friends review of the shrimp scampi was great flavor, nice size shrimp, and nice portion. She thought the clam chowder was not bad but not the best she had. I always feel greatful when we have a server that provides input on masks meals when questions are asked. We actually ended up at this restaurant without actually planning to but I was glad we did. The menu had had a variety of different options for each dietary type. I was pretty impressed with the kitchen setup as I love places that let me watch my food being cook. For starters, we went to different angles, ordering the calamari and the mini burgers. I was a huge fan of the calamari, especially since it had the mini whole calamari in it. A lot of places don't offer the minis, so I was pretty excited about that as they are, the crunchiest. I never thought about seafood for Thanksgiving, but I didn't want to cook and my son's girlfriend is Pescatarian, so we decided to try a place I'd never been to for Thanksgiving Dinner. It was an amazing experience! My first visit was outstanding - and they did have a turkey dinner entree, but I decided on fish. I'm glad I did. With the 3 of us I had the halibut with a side salad and a cup of their seafood chowder. Truly amazing - the halibut was cooked perfectly, salad with balsamic dressing was a perfect accompaniment and the chowder was also perfect! My son ordered steak medium rare and it came exactly as ordered. His girlfriend had scallops and they were perfectly done. Our waiter was amazing and kept us with fresh drinks and was always nearby but very unobtrusive. We had reservations for 5:30 and it wasn't crowded when we arrived and were seated immediately. By the time we left there was a line! While our food selection was unique for Thanksgiving the overall effect was amazing - did I say Amazing? It truly was. Highly recommend Oceano Bistro, which could become my favorite seafood place, along with Peacemaker. I'll definitely be back!! read more

Came for brunch and happy I picked this place. This was a group gathering for a book club, and it worked quite well. The ambiance here is top notch. Very nice, almost posh, atmosphere. The service was VERY good, with all of our requests being provided quickly. The Baja Shrimp Hash had GREAT flavor and the presentation was very nice. My one complaint would be that it was almost a soup! It definitely should've been served with a spoon. I thought this was very unusual for a hash dish. Somebody else ordered the Smoked Salmon and Tomato Frittata and had the same issue. Soupy! She borrowed a spoon from her table mate. Just seemed weird to both of us. A friend and I had breakfast this morning at Oceano Bistro in Clayton. You don't ordinarily think of Oceano as a breakfast place. But it has an array of full breakfast meals. And they bring out a complimentary warm cinnamon roll. Yes , I said free. It's a quiet atmosphere, that makes for a relaxing meal and conversation. A welcome change from the hustle & bustle of a lot of breakfast places. Crab Cakes: 8/10 very flavorful and has lots of crab, get around 4 meatball size pieces Salad: just a basic salad with vinaigrette Lobster with green beans and potatoes: 10/10 fully cooked lobster, chewy yet flaky, came with melted butter, definitely getting your money's worth Steak: 8/10 It was yummy and cooked to the right temperature, but i wish they added a little more flavoring like salt or some sauce to season it a bit more. Still really delicious! Cheesecake: 10/10 very basic but still amazing and so creamy thick Flourless chocolate cake: 8/10 delicious but only 1 bites worth, I wish it was a little bigger! It comes with icecream though and its so dreamy sweet. All the workers were so friendly and the manager came around to ask everyone how it was going. I would come back again! Great place for a nice dinner out - or a celebration of a birthday or anniversary. The name "bistro" didn't quite get across the definition: "A bistro is defined as a small, casual restaurant with a relatively inexpensive, simple menu" in that the food is more "upscale" with a focus on well-prepared seafood with sauces and vegetables that complement each other. Has a good amount of seating in two rooms and a bar area that seats about a dozen. The wait staff was quite attentive and respectful, checked on us a couple of times, and when things got really busy, they still made sure to ensure everything was good with us. read more

Our waitress was very patient with the group esp when a couple of my friends switched their drink orders to the bottomless mimosas! She never gave any indication that she was annoyed although I could understand if she had been a bit. Ha. The restaurant does give each table a cinnamon roll when they sit. Nice gesture but that didn't go far with a group of 5! I ordered the asparagus, shrimp and scallop omelette. There was loads of shrimp in it but looked like 1 scallop sliced. Not much asparagus either. But still it was good. I picked fruit as my side and paid the extra $3 up charge. I love that you can alter things on the menu, based on your preference, such as ordering the calamari grilled instead of fried, or the oysters rockefeller instead of raw. The crab cakes are excellent! The grilled calamari was delicious! The service was superb! I wanted to sit outside, but my friends didn't want to, so we sat at the high tops at the bar. I always come to Oceano for mid-day happy hour on Saturdays and they never disappoint. So I decided to go there for brunch. Our waiter actually made the visit top-notch even if I didn't eat anything! He was awesome and I hate I cannot remember his name but he was a really tall guy with brown hair and was super pleasant. The food was amazing!! My sister and I got the steak and eggs because we wanted something savory but we also wanted something sweet so we split the fried French toast lol. I think I'm going to be full until Tuesday morning . Everything was awesome. The mimosas were bottomless, and they kept them coming. I thoroughly enjoyed myself today in Oceano. And surprisingly the restaurant was not super crowded. It was peaceful and laid-back. All the recipes for a wonderful Sunday brunch. I will definitely be back again. read more
