Monday they have all day happy hour. While we didn't get to eat the drinks we're great!

Cheese and guava empanada
Misty S.

Others have called this place a hidden gem and I have to agree. It's an amazing spot and I really enjoyed everything here. The vibe was lively and elegant. Service was great and food was fantastic! We happen to come during happy hour (Wed-Sun from 3p-6p) and took advantage of the $8 cocktails and 2 for $8 empanadas. Empanadas (2 for $8 happy hour price) - The steak was a special empanada, cheese and guava was the favorite, and mushroom was also good. Cocktails - Lime margarita and pina colada were both refreshing and well-made. Fried baby squid $12 - Very crispy and comes with a tasty dipping sauce. Mahi Mahi $31 - Definitely would order again. Excellent dish, perfectly cooked fish and well-seasoned rice! Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone looking for great food, drinks, and a wonderful atmosphere. Highly recommended! .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2024

6 dollar Happy Hour Sangria!
Denise C.

Charming outdoor seating area and inviting interior. I'm always surprised to see it so empty, as the service is prompt and friendly and the food is fresh and delicious! Great happy hour specials with 6 dollar sangria and 4 dollar empanadas. Everyone needs to stop sleeping on this place and go! They have a brunch on the weekends that I keep meaning to check out.

Mañanero Bowl
Erin U.

Stopped by for brunch for the first time and it was great! The traditional breakfast options are my favorite foods so I loved that Asador Del Sur has so many other options. I ordered the Mañanero Bowl. It was so fresh and huge. I couldn't finish it. It was also brunch so I couldn't pass on a passion fruit caipirinha. Service was super attentive as usual. A great spot for your next brunch!

Guava + cheese (back) and chicken (front) Empanadas! Perfectly crunchy and flaky
Kalin K.

We've been here twice and had exceptional service each time. The food is amazing and fresh. You have to try the empanadas! The cocktails incorporate delicious flavors for an islandy feel. The only downside is how small the first floor is. It feels crowded even when the tables are empty. I haven't been to the second floor so maybe there's more space up there. Definitely not a deterrent for me and I'll be back!

Chimichurri Grilled Chicken Thigh w/ Jasmine Rice and Beans, and Rack of Lamb

Soooooo good!!!! Been lookin for good Latin American food for a bit, and this place hit the spot! I loved the chimichurri chicken - it was so flavorful, meat cooked was perfectly, and went so well with the beans and rice which perfectly complimented the chicken! My boyfriend enjoyed the lamb, especially with the mint sauce. Ambiance was nice, downstairs was more busy than upstairs- and there's lots of space. Service was great! Definitely recommend and will be back!

Nothing special with the bread...

The four of us had dinner here for our first time. We all tried the various soups to start and they were each very good. My favorite was the gluten free lobster bisque, which is rare to find in GF. Then we shared salads and a few other little things. As we were eating I asked about bread and butter. The answer surprised me a little, as it was $2.00. Thinking that I would find some sort of unique bread and as wonderful as the rest of the food, to my great surprise there were 4 pieces of grilled Chibatta (sp). Quite ordinary and tasteless, which had me puzzled. First of all, why charge for basic bread and that was almost bland? I casually asked the owner as she made her way to say hi to her guests about the bread. She said that this was expensive bread and that was why the charge. The cost was ok, but.... About a week earlier, we ate at Truffles and I happily paid $4.00 for 4 different unique sorts of breads that were outstanding. Yes, a silly detail about the really wonderful dinner here, but I think this weakest link in their menu should be revisited if it is to represent this restaurant. Ok enough about that. The service was excellent as was the food and the prices were mostly quite fair. Do check them out!

We loved asador del sur! Service and food were fabulous, but unfortunately we didn't receive our cocktails until we were almost finished with our meal. It was incredible, I would have just liked to have two or three, but only got the one due to timing. I don't blame the staff for this, as I think it is on owners to adequately hire a bartender as to not put too much on the servers. The lights/ noise/ ambiance weren't quite what is to be expected with the price tag, either. Ribeye, crab salad and mash were great, though!

This family-run Argentinian restaurant in Maplewood offers authentic South American cuisine with warmth and hospitality that makes you feel at home. Rooted in flavors from Uruguay, Ecuador, Argentina, Brazil, and Portugal, every dish is crafted with passion, especially their expertly grilled steak, shrimp, sausages, carnitas, chicharron, as well as their empanadas, ceviche & more that capture the essence of South American cooking. Pair your meal with a fine selection of wines from Uruguay's famous wineries, carefully curated to complement the flavors of the cuisine. The welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, and rich culinary heritage make this spot a must-visit.

If I could give this place 10 stars I would we were seated right away although I would book a reservation the next time we decide to go just in case. The service was outstanding our waitress helped us so much especially trying new food. She explained everything from Ingredients to taste and we loved everything she had recommended even the drinks! This place was very fancy definitely dress accordingly. Our food came out and we were both excited to try it and it did not disappoint so much flavor and great taste. We were not rushed definitely enjoyed our experience here. The portions were pretty decent sizes although the price was up there but we ate and still had a lot of food to bring home.

Delicious... like a spanish Thanksgiving. can't believe I haven't been here sooner. My husband had mahi and it was perfect too. Drinks were good tasting but in the very weak more fruity side....which I didn't like so much.. but I'll def still be back very soon.

We were here for brunch on Saturday. There was no street parking so we parked in Schnucks parking lot across from the restaurant. I made a reservation online couple days ago, but it wasn't really busy when we arrived. This is definitely a kid friendly restaurant since I noticed they have a changing table in their bathroom and high chairs. The wait staff here was very kind and hard working. He seated us, took our order and brought food to our table along with 2 other tables. Although he was really busy, he still came to check on us a few time. We were really happy with the service here. The restaurant was relatively small but very charming. I think it's actually a very cute spot for a date. I started off with a mimosa. It came with variety of flavors such as orange, mango, pineapple, and I went with mango. It didn't taste like mango at all but the drink was good. We got the shrimp ceviche for appetizer. I came with rice but we didn't touch the rice at all. The rice was pretty fluffy and aromatic but a toast bread would make a better combo in our opinion. My friend got a grilled salmon sandwich. The bread was a little burnt but it didn't affect the taste. Salmon was cooked just right. The sauce was very yummy. I got the Lomo Saltado with French fries and white rice. I also ordered extra eggs on the side. They didn't make the eggs as I expected. However my stomach was happy with how the beef was marinated and cooked. Overall, it was a great dining experience here. I will return to try their dinner menu.

Shrimp plantain appetizer (2 Piece HomeMade Patacones Rellenos)
Jami R.

I stopped in here before a Yelp event for a quick light bite. The reviews really stood out to me and I had to try it! I only ordered the Patacones Rellenos with shrimp because I had decided in advance and I LOVE plantains. The in house menu is so much more noteworthy than the online menu. It made one tough decision let me tell you! The plantains were cooked perfectly crispy, a bit too salty. The shrimp had wonderful flavor but was overpowered by a lot of raw onion on top. I will definitely be back with my husband to try out more of the menu but I may choose a different topping on the Patacones because of the onion. The lighting but bright yet warm at the same time. The kitchen is slightly open in the back. I loved how the fire heaters outside added a wonderful touch inside as well. Some tables were positioned out in the alleyway which could make for a very intimate evening when the weather is nice.

I had my first dinner of my stay at Olive + Oak, and it blew me away from the moment I laid my eyes on it. From the unsuspecting street outside, the giant windows glow with the warm, sparkling light from within. An elegant dining room with a beautiful bar and a good amount of hustle and bustle. I felt like I was at an upscale New Orleans joint. Very cozy. Service was just as beautiful. Our server was extremely nice, new the menu backwards and forwards, and rattled off the nightly specials without hesitation. And on top of all of that, when we were getting some stuff to-go, she threw in more bread for us! You can't train that level of service. That's just a good person. Onto the food. We started off with the Blue Crab Gratin (calabrian chili, celery + pretzel bread). This was ooey, gooey, cheesy, delicious, had a fair amount of crab in it, had a nice little kick, and the sliced, crunchy pretzel bread dippers were exquisite. Something seasonal that isn't on their menu anymore, we ordered an Okonomiyaki, which is a savory Japanese pancake, basically, covered in sauce. Wow, this thing was done well. Very reminiscent of the authentic thing I've had in Japan. Very nice. Another dish that isn't on the menu anymore, the Catfish dish. It was slightly Asian and on top of some sort of risotto rice. I can't remember exactly, but I do remember that it was very well cooked, had a nice char. An eclectic dish that came together very nicely. I also got to try some of the Rabbit Crepe (port wine braised rabbit, blueberry, fennel, arugula + kenny's bleu gouda crepe). Some people might shudder at the idea of eating rabbit. Those people need to grow up. Rabbit is one of the most succulent, delicious meats out there, and in this wonderful flavor combination, in a crepe. This chef is genius. I could have downed two of these things. We finished off the night with the recommended Cloud Cake (vanilla chiffon cake, coconut pastry cream, coconut + whipped cream icing). This thing was de-ca-dent. A nice, thicc sponge, a very coconuty cream, and a whipped icing with lots of coconut pulp in it. So heavenly. Overall, my socks were blown off. Not only does St. Louis have good food, this was a better meal than I had in Nashville and Kansas City. Who would have guessed. I would love to come back.

Overrated, over hyped. Fun decor however ambiance is way too loud. Food took forever, at least 45…read moreminutes between appetizer and mains. It was busy on a Saturday night,…read moreso service ran a little slow, but our server was friendly and answered questions without rushing us. We shared mussels, the beet salad, the soup flight, and the pot roast. Everything was good and tasted well prepared. The mussel broth was flavorful. The soups were excellent. The pumpkin and pear soup leaned toward a dessert profile but fit the season perfectly. The beet salad was not the typical style. The beets had a crisp texture you do not usually see, but the flavor was good and the goat cheese worked well. The pot roast was also solid with tender meat and plenty of flavor. Dessert was the coconut chocolate pie. It had sliced almonds that added some crunch and the portion was large enough to share. Drinks included the brandy margarita and the elderflower gimlet. Both were fine but the margarita was the standout. The cognac note gave it a deeper flavor. Overall, a pleasant dinner with good food and a cozy setting. I would return. This is the perfect spot to bring pretty much everybody, maybe not vegan, but plenty of options for vegetarians and pescatarians. A crowd pleaser. 4/5 because although it's good and solid.
