We went for date night on a Saturday in the 9 o'clock hour. We were checking them out for the BF's birthday as an option. It was beyond packed. Of course you have to be 21 to get in, so they are checking id's at the door. It's a large space with various areas. They have a large bar area with a selection of cocktails and beer. Since it was incredibly packed inside, people of all ages. It was so hard to maneuver around. We were only able to play skee ball and grab some pizza. The veggie pizza is DELICIOUS!!! If you pay in cash you receive a discount. I'd suggest going during the week when the crowds are smaller. We saw mainly arcade games and I would not recommend going if you need wheel chair accessibility during the busy times because there is NO WAY that you will be able to maneuver around at all. It's way to many people for the amount of games available. I'd suggest going to Dave & Buster's or somewhere honestly.

Great place to take friends and be silly! They have a very impressive draft list including a perennial beer that they brew just for Up-Down! Bartenders were knowledgeable of the beer list. So many games and a lot of them are really quirky or vintage! The outside patio area is super cute and has fires to sit around. The pizza place had some wild options by the slice. I was sad the skew ball was out of order but it seemed like they were actively trying to fix it.

Another great space in the CWE! The drinks and pizza would be a stand-alone highlight at other spaces, but the games here were another thing to come back for. The bartenders were great and had the new Four Hands on tap. I also loved the fact that the TV's had wrestling and strange videos of animals rather than sports

I love the way they check ID at the door!! Totally prevents an underage crowd from entering the building. The first game I spotted was Skee Ball which is a childhood favorite! Then there is a photo both...There are plenty of games to remind me of my childhood gamer days..lol.. The games take tokens and there is no shortage of games. Two levels of fun fun. The welcoming staff made the experience even better and the foo was good! This is surely a place for an affordable date night, girls night out or just a fun place that's local.

This was such a fun arcade bar that's a must do if you're in the area. This place is massive with several rooms across two floors, including some outdoor areas. There's a great mix of games from different generations, from skeeball to pinball, and even an N64 set up on a projector. The night I was there, some folks even set up Garage Band in the outdoor courtyard, which was a blast to play with some strangers and new friends. You trade in some cash for tokens at the machines, and the prices seem to be pretty reasonable. I didn't try any of the food or drinks, but everyone around me seemed to like them. Definitely check out this great fun spot!

Super fun place to come to! I've been multiple times. On weekends it's busier so if you have a specific game in mind to play, you might have to wait a little bit. But they have so many games to pick from. On Sundays they have a good deal for coins and beer. Prices are pretty reasonable. The games are a lot of fun to play. Good for larger groups or one on one.

My husband's gold wedding ring flew off when he was playing the basketball game. It somehow landed in a 5 foot tall 2x2" support beam with no way to get it out at the bottom. The GM (John?) took 20 minutes with a tape measurer and duct tape to get it out. It was not an easy task!! We really appreciate the GM and the rest of the staff going above and beyond to fix our silly mishap and securing our wedding ring!

Sweet place for retro arcade and lots of pinball. Clean and well kept. Came on a beautiful summer day and enjoyed the outdoor patio.

Great concept executed. Some people live in the past thru music and hairstyle. Some go here. Up Down caters to the kid in most of us (21-55 yrs old). Will older folks enjoy this place? Probably not as there is plenty of sensory stimuli (noise, lights, movements). For the rest, this is the place to enjoy a weekend to be a kid again - hangout with friends, play arcade (and pinball), and eat pizza. Parking structure blocks away is best bet because street parking is a nightmare. They have patio outback if need to take break from all the action inside. Rating this place for target market of 21 thru 55 yrs old - 5/5.

Fun spot for friends, date-nights, or rainy day activity! Lots of nostalgic video games, with a few newer ones mixed in too! Cocktail menu, local drafts and canned beers, full bar with bartenders (with a bar downstairs as well). Reasonably priced slices of pie for order at a pizza window. Only downside is that several machines are always broken (pinballs and skee-ball), and sometimes groups or people will hog a certain game so others can't play.

Went here for a birthday party and am so thrilled with my first visit. This place is incredibly fun and nothing I've ever experienced. Will definitely be making more trips out here to show more friends how epic it is. Never heard of up down before but it has left a great impression on me, the retro games and even the pizza was stellar.

Up-Down is such a fun spot for date night or for a night out with some friends! If you love classic arcade games, this is the place for you. They offer a great selection upstairs and downstairs! My personal favorite is Skee-Ball. The interior is super Insta-worthy, with lots of cute neon signs and other decor throughout the building. The bathrooms have always been very clean when I've visited. I've only ever ordered drinks here, but I heard their pizza is delicious, so I definitely want to try it out sometime! All of the bartenders I've encountered are very friendly and efficient. If you're looking for something to do in the Central West End on a weeknight or weekend, definitely check this place out!

Where do we find the children's day? I don't see it on the website.

To my knowledge there isn't a children's day. This is an arcade bar that has nostalgic games for adults 21+

The food menu is relatively small - but good. The food my party had was well prepared. Good drink and beer menu and an adequate draft selection - although the first two beers I asked for were no longer in stock so I ended up going with a domestic. All in all a good experience. 4 out of 5. I'd love to go back when it is slightly warmer and sit outside. Casual ambiance. Family friendly.

I enjoyed that quiet space for a bit and the afternoon air after the walk from Cortex made the wait feel intentional rather than inconvenient. Comfortable seating out here and the light breeze with the afternoon light was nice as I cranked out a few Yelp reviews before I spotted other customers going inside. After setting up at the huge table in the corner, I stepped up to the bar where I was warmly greeted. I chose their Fish Fry, which they call a light lager. It was in a huge mug and that worked out just fine for me as it lasted a while. Oh, and some chicken wings. These were tasty buggers. Served quite hot with a rub that was more spice than sauce. Very yummy and the two sauces were perfect accompaniment. Absolutely delicious. Not long after, friends arrived and I shifted from solo laptop time to conversation. I started out with a Raspberry Beret one of their specialty cocktails. It was my favorite vodka, Tito's with Raspberry syrup and lemon. It was shaken, not stirred and severed up like a martini. Prince would have given it a thumbs up. After some intense conversations with my buds, I ordered some food and a beer. I typically get their famous burger with fries or the chicken wings, but I got adventurous and ordered the nachos. When I asked the bartender how they were, he said that's what he was having for dinner and showed me his plate which sold me. It may have only been an appetizer, but it was filling and easy to eat while enjoying more convo. I'm a fan of Avery Brewing in Colorado, so I had their White Rascal as my beer. Rockwell is so close to getting a 5 Star rating from me, but they keep missing the mark on the customer service. It's good, but some of the staff treat older customers differently then those their age. This visit, one of them was cold and had attitude. After a few tips, they warmed up and provided friendly service and actually got chatty. So I think next time, they may just get the bump to 5.

I met here with members of a local running group for one of their periodic pub runs. It was extremely cold when I got there, despite having been nearly 90 degrees out the day before. Several members of our group stood in the doorway, preventing other patrons from entering and exiting. Modern's staff deserves credit for not complaining or forcing them to leave. They may have sensed that this wasn't the local unhoused population. Only employed people run recreationally, despite having relatively little free time. I see this place all the time, from my car on the adjacent highway, on my way back to civilization, but I'd never had the occasion to stop by. Perhaps I'd be a regular if I attended the nearby community college. But if I could afford to eat here, why would I be attending community college? The beer will set you back. I would have been fine with a 32 oz can of Miller High Life, but when in Rome. There's an extensive selection of beers on tap, and probably even more in cans and bottles. I'm no connoisseur, and I don't have that kind of time, so I went with something called Silent Gs, or something to that effect. I justified it, in part, by telling myself that its name is a reference to the Lil Wayne bar adored by people who started listening to rap music in 2003. I paid $7.50-ish for a not particularly large serving, but damn it if it wasn't pretty good. I appreciate it anytime one of these higher gravity pale ales doesn't taste like it was sourced from a trough-style urinal at a circa '83 ballpark. A couple of girls from the aforementioned run group mentioned that this place carries a brussels spouts salad. I don't eat salad, because I'm a guy, but these girls are certified baddies, and I succumbed to the peer pressure. I attempted to mitigate the impact on my reputation by also ordering a slice of pepperoni pizza. I'm gonna have to have a difficult meeting with my accountant, as a result, but it was worth it. The entree serving of the salad would have been enough food, even without the pizza. It's enough vegetables that it's actually kinda obnoxious, like they're trolling you. Who do they think I am, a damn cow? Part of that may have been the brussels sprouts. They help give the salad a surprising heft, for something that doesn't have any meat in it, and help make up for the lack of bacon, which I generally require with brussels sprouts. The candied walnuts, which I thought might be croutons, were another delightful surprise and complemented the tang of the pickled red onions. The pizza came topped with an oddly precise-looking quantity and arrangement of pepperonis, like they might have Russell Crowe from the movie A Beautiful Mind working in the kitchen. It's not like at Domino's, where they just toss them on there and they might not even be on half the pizza. I guess they have to do that when they sell it by the slice. You'd be upset if you didn't get enough of them, because they're delicious. They're the kind that curl up into little cups filled with disgustingly unhealthy and yet delicious oil. I wonder if that's also because they serve it by the slice and hence have to reheat it. That may have resulted in the end of the crust suffering from a bit of Popeyes biscuit-like dryness, but what are you going to do. Then again, that may have been a purposeful attempt to get you to purchase more expensive beer. Everything else here was so well executed, it's hard to imagine this wasn't intentional on their part.

Food was middle of the road. A smoked sirloin sandwich was tasty, though rather well-done. And the order of "salmon cakes", which the menu says is made of "smoked salmon, roast corn, tomato, cucumber, creme fraiche, and capers" was in fact just one cake (not cakes!), smaller than a hockey puck (about 1/2" thick max) and seemed to be made of canned fish, not the bright orange of smoked salmon.
