We live down the street from this spot but we tend to be more dinner people, not lunch, so we ALWAYS miss it! We finally got the chance to check it out - we had already eaten lunch and it was between lunch and dinner so we endulged in some drinks (house wine and beer) and a couple appetizers. If they're any indiciation of what their pasta is like, I can't wait to come back and try it. We got the house bread which....I didn't think you could make house bread memorable...but they do. It is so fresh, the right amount of crispy and oily, and the dip. Holy moly. We also split the shishito peppers, which I'm a huge fan of and can NEVER find in STL, so I was in heaven. The sauce was super light and a great companion to the blistered peppers. We ordered at the counter, then they brought everything out to us on the patio, it was perfect. The vibes of this place are immaculate. It's part restaurant, winery, baked goods, and your Italian grandma's house all in one. The hours are tight but the focaccia will make up for it (so good OMG). I was amazed, how excellent and authentic the homemade pasta is at Vicini Pastaria. I went there solo on a Friday at noon for lunch and have been wanting to try the Pici Cacio e Pepe pasta plate especially since that's a food staple in Rome and wow! It was so flavorful and on point. Also, as an appetizer I ordered the focaccia bread and a small sample of the olives that was an awesome lunch maybe the best pasta I've had in St. Louis which is really saying something. I can't wait to return with family and friends. I loved the interior of the restaurant and they also have an outdoor patio off to the side of the block of businesses there. I had the pleasure of trying out Vicini Pastaria and rest assured, it lived up to the hype! Located in Lafayette square, this quaint restaurant/shop offers more than meets the eye. It's packed with art and miscellaneous things you can purchase while also giving you the chance to see how your food is made. When I walked in, I had no idea it would be so small, but was also surprised that it was a shop and restaurant combined. I was handed a menu and given the choice to sit wherever. With limited seating inside, I managed to snag a two-top near the wall. As for the concept, you order at the front and then they'll bring it to you. After a brief glance of the menu, I decided on the apricot Bellini, bread service, and cacio e Pepe. They gave me a water decanter and a glass to take with me back to my table. This is now the second restaurant I've been to that's done that? Has this become the new norm? Regardless, I get it. Within minutes I was given my Bellini and Bread service. The Bellini was better than I expected (namely because I can't recall ever eating anything with apricot) but it was sweet to the taste. The bread service was out of this world. The foccacia was fresh, light and fluffy and the olive oil and pesto were nice accompaniments. After shamefully eating all my bread, I managed to save some room for my main course. The Cacio e Pepe was good but was a wee bit salty for my liking. Additionally, while I've only had the dish a handful of times, this is the first I've had that's been so thick and creamy, almost as if the noodles were swimming in the cheese sauce towards the bottom. If they cut back on that just a little, the dish would be perfect. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit. Everyone working was very courteous and I liked being able to get in and out with no frills. I've been on a best of St Louis pasta kick lately, so I'm super excited to try Vicini. Atmosphere is absolutely lovely, kinda quaint, a few tables and a lovely selection of drinks and complementary wine pairings. The woodsman's pasta was delicious, however , the flavors seemed muted to me. Granted, I do prefer spicier cuisine in general, but I've developed a recent appreciation for Italian flavors. I didn't get a big impression of spices or classic Italian flavors (parsley, basil, etc). Most of the flavor of the pasta was the various meats and mushrooms. They were advertising a happy hour on selected days each month. Super friendly at the counter. I sat outside in the park nearby and enjoyed my fresh pasta and house made focaccia. I moved to Lafayette Square a few months ago, and I am mad at myself for waiting so long to try this place. First of all, the space is extremely charming. Most importantly, though, the bread service and pasta is unbeatable. The bread service comes with the most delicious pesto. The pasta is made in house, and the sauces are just right - not too rich and also not lacking in flavor in the slightest. As a cheese lover, I love to add burrata to mine. You can also buy pasta and sauces to prepare at home, which is amazing. I can attest that it makes for *almost* as good of a dish at home. The only downside is the odd hours. This is THE hidden gem of Lafayette Square. I only knew about it from walking around my neighborhood and saying to myself "oh, what is that?" and then proceeding to drag my neighbors and friends to check it out. The restaurant is open lunch hours Fri-Sun. It doubles as a shop, which has longer hours. Every week they have different specials (which you can check on Instagram) or you can have one of their staples, which are always available and always delicious. This tiny shop & restaurant packs a punch with lots of unique and special gift items, handcrafted pastas and sauces and local Salumi and imported cheeses. I scored a beautiful terra cotta wine chiller from Italy for my Aunt and Uncle that live in Augusta and they were so pleased to receive this at Christmas. I also scored some "gluten conscious" pasta which my sister with celiac really enjoyed. The owners mother has celiac and she assures me she is able to enjoy this pasta. My sister and her daughter didn't have any issues either. What a blessing! It was a little pricey at $24.99 per pound, but it was a nice splurge and well worth it. The chef/owner and her family were very welcoming and provided a lot of information about the shop and their food while I was there. I will update this review once I have tried the restaurant section which is just a couple of small tables. Nice and intimate! I can see why this has quickly become neighborhood favorite. I have been following the Vicini Pastaria Instagram account for quite a while waiting for this shop to open. I love pasta. I love supporting local businesses. It's one storefront in Lafayette Square and there are gifty items in addition to the fresh pasta for sale. They serve lunch on the weekends. The menu has two pasta choices, a couple of sandwiches, and a couple of small plates. I ordered the Reginette al ragu (housemade long, ruffled, ribbon pasta, braised local beef & pork, San Marzano tomatoes, and red wine.) If you look at my photo you'll see a dollop of ricotta in the middle that was not listed on the menu. I prefer to know exactly what I'm ordering and not be surprised. There are two large tables and some bar seating in the front window. If anyone at all is sitting at the first table then no one can pass behind them to sit in the window so you are forced to sit communally or take your order to go. My pasta order, a bottle of Kirkland water, and tip was $31 and some change. I think this is the going rate in a mid-priced sit down restaurant. It feels high in this situation. The pasta is clearly handmade. I felt like the pasta should have been left in to cook another minute or two as it was firmer than firm. The sauce was good albeit slightly salty. The selection of gift-ware was holiday appropriate and well selected. I would return to pick up pasta, sauces, etc but I probably wouldn't dine in again. read more

It had just the right amount of saltiness. They serve it with fresh pesto, 24 mo aged Parmesan, and delish olive oil. For mains, we shared the meatballs with polenta, prosciutto e tartufo panini, & pici cacio e pepe (hand rolled pasta ). For dessert we had the Italian waffle cookies.
