After visiting the Gateway Arch on my visit to St Louis, I stopped in for lunch at the highly…read morerecommended Pappy's Smokehouse. This location in midtown is the original (I believe) and has a lot of charm and a great staff. There was no real line as I showed up in the first 30 minutes of their opening and on a Monday so I'm sure that made a big difference. I was helped by a super nice man up front who assisted me with my order and gave me the lowdown on the ordering and seating process. Pappy's has a large staff that were constantly clearing tables and delivering food. The manager (?) even stopped by the dining area and checked in with how our meals were. He also told me about the fried corn on the cob cooking process. Very interesting. I had a half slab of the ribs and chose the fried corn on the cob and baked beans as my sides. I filled by drink and found a seat and my meal was served shortly afterwards. The tables have 4 sauces to choose from if needed. Honestly, I loved the flavor of the ribs just the way they were served to me although I did try the sauces as I love to try these things when in a new place. The ribs had a glaze of sauce already on them and man were they good! The ribs were perfectly prepared with the iconic smoke ring around the edges. They were meaty and fatty just like they should be. These rate in the top 5 ribs I've ever had. I enjoyed the fried corn on the cob as it was super unique and finished with a sugar and salt coating but not too much. The BBQ beans were also good with pieces of pork mixed in. I highly recommend trying Pappy's when in the St Louis area. They really do a wonderful all around job.

So good, a must try!…read more Line is already long at 11am but they move through it. Plenty of spaces to park. They have you order and then get a table so there is enough seats. Brisket - my husband's favorite. Sliced thin. I also enjoyed it because it wasn't overly fatty. Pork - also delicious! The original bbq sauce was our favorite. Baked beans - hardy and delicious Fried corn - way better than regular corn on the cob Potato salad - more mustard/mayo based. Large potato chunks. It was delicious with a subtle flavor.

She even suggested a few things. The food was very good. The beef ribs was very tender. It had a great bark. The Mac and cheese was good. The creamy cabbage was good. The Brussels Sprouts were tasty. The smoked wings were good but not great. They offer a spicy BBQ sauce and a sweet BBQ sauce. Both were delicious, but the sweet was my favorite. I got an apple Margarita. It was good. But it tasted like a regular Margarita. Yelpers if you haven't tried Stellar Hog it's a must try. The portion size were good. I have plenty for later. The only thing I finished was the cabbage and Brussels Sprouts. Parking is on the street. Watch the signs. I almost forgot. I had to take home some of the BBQ Sauce.

I have several BBQ places to revisit and The Stellar Hog is my first. Glad to say, things really haven't changed that much. The pit beans here are some of the best in the metro area. The spiciness gives them an extra kick and that is what I like. I ordered an extra side of them to enjoy the next day cold and they did not disappoint. The Mac-n-Cheese as an additional side was extra creamy and cheesy. I like that they use the traditional elbow noodles to make theirs. I did not use the BBQ sauce they provided for my ribs, I'd dip a forkful of mac-n-cheese into it for an extra burst of flavor. Of course, the ribs did not disappoint me. Their Baby Back Ribs and they are way better than that restaurant that sings about how good theirs are. I like the fact that they are a dry rub and not soaked in BBQ sauce. I like the ability to be able to add my own sauce in the amount that I like. Many times, I just enjoy the seasoning of the dry rub. I'll be going back soon, so I can enjoy an order of Cheesy Pulled Pork Fries. They are best enjoyed fresh. I don't think they'd be a good carry-out option. Staff is friendly and they keep a good attitude considering the high volume of traffic they experience. The Stellar Hog is stellar and I'd rank it in my top five STL BBQ joints.

Join the line when you walk in, when you get to the front of the line, you tell the counter person your order, the guys behind the counter were upbeat and friendly. Go pick your table with your food if its ready or just yourself if your food isn't ready yet and they will come out and call your name. Raise your hand and they will bring it over, friendly as can be. At the location in Valley Park my standing order is brisket and tater tots , so good! But I didn't see tater tots on the menu so I switched it up and got smoked salmon with fries, and an order of hushpuppies. I got the salmon and fried up first and both were great. Salmon was smoky and flaky, the fries the hand cut style with skin on. Both tasted great with my favorite coffee BBQ sauce. The hushpuppies came out piping hot with a sweet sauce on the side. The hushpuppies were so good! I will be craving them, thinking about them now, mmm. Line moves quickly, friendly staff, good food, fantastic hushpuppies :)

I went to the recommended "good" places and walked away disappointed. I happen to be in Soulard one day and noticed Bogart's closed because they sold out. That's a big green flag to me. Not open Sunday and Monday, green flag. Primarily open for lunch, green flag. I just knew I had to check it out. Finally got the opportunity to check it out and boy was it delicious. I got a two meat plate with two sides. I got the tri tip, ribs, baked beans, and deviled potato salad. The deviled egg potato salad taste like it sounds. It taste like potato salad and and deviled egg had a baby. Never seen such a creation but I knew I needed to have it. The baked beans were out of this world!! Top three baked beans I've ever had!! A little smokey, a little sweet, and just the right consistency as far as thickness for me A1 . The ribs by far the best ribs I've had in STL. Very flavorful and tender. The tri tip it was ok. I've never had it shaved before and couldn't really get a good grasp on the flavor. It wasn't bad, just not the way I've had tri tip previously. All of their BBQ sauces were fantastic as well!! My favorite sauce was the pineapple express. Bogart's has restored my faith in STL BBQ. I was a non-believer for some time . HIGHLY recommend

Alas, their sauces are superb. I ended up taking my brisket and concocting some nachos with them. The brisket was solid. Good moisture, good fat content, some pepper tickles the tongue while the salt has tucked itself into every crevice and fold of the meat like a baby in bed. The beans were just fine. Observations orbitally? Very light in color. Lighter than most. Perhaps that is a contributor to less flavor, nonetheless they don't taste bad. Workers were nice, which is always welcome at fast casual/takeaway. Attentive, kind, smiles!

There are only about 12 to 13 seating options, with only about 5 or 6 of them being non-bar height options. Nikki was our server; she was awesome, helpful & attentive! Everything is a la carte. Boooooooo! Lol. I'm not a huge fan of restaurants that serve a la carte. But whatevs. I started with the Charleston drink. It was good and strong; came out in a fancy box w a lil smoke. It was semi dramatic, lol. We decided to order the collards and spinach artichoke dip to start with. It was good. It gave spinach and artichoke dip for the most part. The seasoned saltine crackers that accompanied that were not my favorite, but not the worst, & we had to ask for more to finish the dip (we were unexpectedly charged for them -_____-). I wish it was pita bread or pita chips instead, but I guess the crackers are Lucy's special touch. We finally decide on food; she got the catfish po boy, I got the brisket sandwich. She said her sandwich was FIRE but I didn't try it so I can't speak to that unfortunately. My brisket sandwich was ok; it had queso on it and it was kinda cold which was wack. The sandwich was a decent size for sure, I just could have went for a different bread personally. The ciabatta bread overpowered the actual meat. I asked for bbq sauce to dip and eat pieces of the brisket. I want to come back and try the Brussels and catfish po boy myself.
