So glad to have Grand Bistro back in my life! The food is just as good as I remember from when it was Pho Grand, and honestly, the service when I went with friends last week was incredible. I knew they don't take reservations and won't seat an incomplete party, but I still got there a little early just to see if we could grab a table for five. I was surprised (in a good way) when they seated me before everyone else arrived. I even told the hostess I didn't mind waiting, but she encouraged me to go ahead and sit, which was really nice. Our server was super friendly and made sure I was taken care of while I waited. As my friends started arriving, he was quick to get them settled in too. We started with some non-alcoholic drinks and spent some time chatting before diving into the menu. It was honestly hard to pick just one thing, so I went with both the chicken pho and fried rice. I knew I wouldn't finish it all, but I really wanted both. Once we ordered, everything moved smoothly--our server checked in, made sure drinks were filled, and kept things organized. When the food came out, everything looked amazing and tasted just as good. Of course, with all the catching up we were doing, it took us a while to finish, but there was no rush at all. When we were ready, he brought the checks and was more than happy to split them out (always appreciate that!). Before leaving, I ordered a to-go meal for my husband and asked for a box for my leftovers. Our server actually took my plate and packed everything up in the back, which I wasn't expecting but really appreciated. He also brought out the to-go order right when it was ready. Pho-mazing! Lovely mouthfeel with the broth, a perfect bowl on a winter storm night. Try the Pho Dac Biet along with a mix of hoisin sauce, chili garlic and the chili crisp - this combo was a good replacement for my usual hoisin sauce/sa té combo at pho restaurants. The pork eggrolls had an unusual surprise - fresh sliced mushrooms (in case you were wondering why the crust was darker in hue). We chatted briefly with Jeff, the owner, and learned a ton about the restaurant's history and re-launch. It's a good sized venue, with great lighting and seating plus excellent service. 1 Star I have never personally dined at Grand Bistro, but after seeing the video circulating of a customer being confronted by management over a tip, I would not feel comfortable spending my money at this restaurant. In the video, the customer is apparently preparing to pay her bill when the manager questions her about not leaving a tip. When she asks whether she is being told she cannot eat there if she doesn't tip, the manager appears to tell her that she cannot return. The manager also tells her, "You don't belong here. You don't come here no more." The server then explains that they only make $2, but the customer correctly points out that an employee's wages are an issue between the employee and the employer--not something a customer should be pressured into resolving through a tip. Whatever someone's personal opinion about tipping may be, customers should not be confronted, shamed or told they don't belong because they chose not to leave a tip. If a restaurant has a mandatory service charge, that should be clearly disclosed to customers upfront. A voluntary tip should not become something management demands at the end of a meal. What bothered me most was the attitude displayed toward the customer. She wasn't screaming, cursing or causing a scene. She simply declined to tip and questioned why she was being pressured to do so. The response from management was essentially that she didn't belong there and shouldn't come back. After watching that video, I can honestly say I would choose to spend my money somewhere else. Customers should be able to decide whether and how much they tip without being intimidated or made to feel unwelcome. And one more thing has been bothering me since I watched this video. The server says, "We only make $2." Wait a minute... WHAT? Because I just looked up Missouri's current minimum wage rules. In 2026, Missouri's minimum wage is $15 an hour, and for a covered tipped employee, the employer is required to pay at least $7.50 an hour in direct wages. Tips can make up the rest, but if the employee's wages and tips don't reach $15 an hour, the EMPLOYER is supposed to make up the difference. So if this woman is literally being paid $2 an hour by the restaurant, my question wouldn't be directed at the customer sitting at the table. I'd be asking my EMPLOYER: "Where is the rest of my money?" Because if I'm supposed to be getting at least $7.50 an hour directly and I'm only receiving $2, that's a $5.50 an hour difference before we even start talking about whether my tips are enough to bring me up to the required minimum. THAT is something I would want an answer to. And if I were that employee, I would be contacting the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations and asking them to explain exactly what my employer is legally required to pay me. Because telling customers, "We only make $2," and then putting pressure on customers to make up the difference is NOT the solution. If you're not being paid properly, go after the people responsible for your paycheck. Don't stand over a customer and make them feel guilty because they aren't willing to personally supplement your wages. And again, I'm not saying servers don't deserve to make good money. They absolutely do. I'm saying **YOUR EMPLOYER'S PAYROLL IS NOT MY PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.** And honestly, if I were working somewhere and discovered that I was being paid $2 an hour when Missouri law says I should be receiving at least $7.50 an hour directly as a covered tipped employee, I'd have a whole different conversation with management. I'd be saying: **"Forget the tip. WHERE THE HELL IS MY MONEY?"** read more

How happy am I to learn this place reopened with a new name? We were here within the hour of learning it had reopened (was Pho Grand). And it lived up to our expectations. Love the new cocktail bar they added. It take away some seating however people can eat at bar too. We ordered cocktails while waiting for our table which took only a few minutes. My husband tried their version of an old-fashioned which used both bourbon and rum!!! It was good but he said definitely a "sipper". They have a full bar and much better wine selection now too. Starters for us were a bowl of wonton soup and the spring rolls. Both were good but rolls a little rubbery to me. The highlight of our meals was charbroiled pork. I'm so glad I got to try this place! It used to be Pho Grand and it closed down a few years ago and I was so sad as I never got to go! But now it's open again! And omg was it delicious! I got the wonton soup which was so savory and yummy. And then I got the garlic sautéed shrimp. You can never go wrong! Both of my friends got pho and they LOVED it. Now I have to go back and get pho! The place is pretty small. And it was packed! There was a wait on a Wednesday night when we went! Which means it's good! Luckily we snagged some bar seats and didn't have to wait. Keep in mind there is only street parking along Grand, which can be tricky depending on the day/time of day. But it's well worth a visit! read more

I have an unreasonable emotional attachment to banh xeo. I can't seem to find it anywhere near my house these days.I was near downtown today and swung by the only place my most recent menu searches listed it. "Swung by" as in 30 minutes completely out of my way. So glad I did! The location is bistro modern and welcoming. It's still exactly the same except for a slight name change and updated decor. The owner and his wife were on the floor and could not have been nicer. They love their restaurant and it shows. The spring rolls were fresh and flavorful, and that coffee had the perfect bold‑sweet kick that makes you instantly happy. The location on South Grand Boulevard just adds to the charm. We would have given another star except that I wanted a vegetarian Pho and I they do not have it. Instead I got a tofu curry and rice dish. It was good, but nothing special. My wife had the gluten free Pho with beef. She asked for more of the condiments (first batch was just ok size-wise) and was given cilantro only, not the other items. They did get the food out incredibly fast though. So for us, this latest endeavor was not so notable. There seemed to be a slight attitude by the staff that implied, hurry up, order, we have people to get to....
