Our group of three arrived at 11:30 AM and finished eating by 12:30 PM, but we weren't able to leave until 1:20 PM solely due to the terrible service. To give credit where it's due, the food itself was a mixed bag but had some highlights. The Soup Dumplings and Taro Dumplings were absolutely delicious. However, the Hot Soybean Milk and Shrimp Wonton were very bland. The main issue here is the service. Most of our food came out within 20 minutes of ordering, but they forgot the Hot Soybean Milk. I had to ask for it 3 separate times--waiting 5 to 7 minutes between each request--before it was finally brought out after all the other food was done. The worst part was trying to get the bill. The restaurant was not busy at all; there were only three other tables with 2 to 3 people each. After waiting 10 minutes after finishing our meal, I asked for the bill. I then had to ask 3 more times, waiting 7 to 10 minutes between each ask. The woman who takes the orders and handles the bills walked past us at least 20 times after I asked for the bill. She wasn't even the one serving food or clearing dishes, so there was no excuse. In the end, it was the busboy clearing the dishes who finally went and got us our check. I understand delays when they are busy, but being trapped for 50 minutes just trying to pay a bill in an empty restaurant is unacceptable. Great dumplings, but the front-of-house staff really needs to step up. read more

We stopped by Dumpling Plus for a quick lunch and overall had a good experience. The inside was very nice, well lit, and had an open view into the kitchen where you can watch them making dumplings. We ordered the Happy Six soup dumplings, pan fried rainbow dumplings, and pork and vegetable wontons in chili oil. The soup dumplings were my favorite and tasted pretty authentic, similar to ones I've had in Shanghai. My daughter preferred the pan fried dumplings, which had really nice crispy bottoms. We did have a little bit of a timing issue with the wontons coming out quite a bit later than the first two dishes. The service was friendly and attentive, and we had fun trying the different colored dumplings. I'd recommend Dumpling Plus if you're craving dumplings. read more

I have been on a dumpling kick so I decided to try this place. Parking in the loop is always interesting but I found a spot nearby. Went to the restaurant and was seated quickly. Decided to try the happy six soup dumplings so I could get some variety. Also ordered the spicy shrimp and pork vegetable wontons. Really liked everything I ordered but did make a mess. Food came out in a reasonable time and wait staff was attentive. Restaurant is cool because there is a window into the kitchen where you can see them making the dumplings. There is a window where you can see employees preparing the dumplings. I ordered the Happy Six Dumplings and appreciated that this was an option to get to sample the different flavors. My favorite was definitely the Mala Dumpling. We also got chicken chow mein, cucumber salad, and the green beans to share. Overall, the meal was packed with flavor. I visited Dumplings Plus two days in a row and was able to try a variety of their dishes! All of the food was delicious and there was not a dish that I did not enjoy. I tried all of their soup dumplings and many of their other appetizers, snacks, and other non soup dumplings. Of note of what I would recommend is: cucumber salad, Mala pork soup dumplings, black truffle pork soup dumplings, glutinous rice siu mai. These were all a standout and I will definitely be ordering these when I come back. The staff were very nice and the food came out rather quickly. My boyfriend wanted to surprise me and take me to this new spot, even though I have a gluten allergen. I know this goes against a lot of my recent reviews because of being GF, but as a lifelong dumpling eater and maker, I have an extremely hard time passing on authentic Chinese dumplings and will suffer through it if I have to. Note: pretty much nothing on their menu is gluten free. He ordered a small wonton soup, and we shared the 6 treasures, a small pork siu mai, and a small Shanghai style soup bao dumpling (siu long bao). Each item comes out individually as they prepare it also you'll get a very fresh, made to order dumpling. They mark your order as you receive it from your table receipt. The service is quick, attentive, and beautifully presented. Pricing here is comparable to other dumpling places in the area, with the 6 treasures being $12 and the siu mai and soup at $7. Of the 6 treasures, the crab and pork, mala, and truffle were standouts. Broths are so silky and umami bombs. The skins are delicately thin yet withstood chopstick pressure and manipulation. The siu mai is meaty, silky, and bouncy. The siu long bao, delicious on their own, but absolutely unstoppably delicious with the black vinegar and chili crisp on top. I took a sip of just the wonton soup. It is very light but the flavor depends almost entirely on the seaweed, which is almost flavorless if you're eating anything else. In Chinese culture, we usually have soup at the beginning of the meal, but with the delicate taste of the broth, it would be very clean or "ting daam" to have it between dumplings. I'll be back, but I sincerely hope they have some GF options in the future! read more

The only place I've had this kind of dumpling service was a few trips to Din Tai Fung, and I can honestly say Dumpling Plus blows them out of the water. The dumplings are huge and packed with fillings and flavor. The beef chow main was the surprise of the night- incredible noodles and flavor. Don't sleep on the vegetables either! The food here is just incredible! The only other place I had had soup dumplings prior to this was in Chinatown in New York City and I think these dumplings were even better. It's hard to pick a favorite, but the truffle soup dumplings and cucumber salad probably my favorite. But truly, you can't go wrong. I was in the Loop a couple of weeks ago and got excited when I saw Dumpling Plus even though it wasn't open yet. I love dumplings! I stopped in on a Monday evening. I ordered the Lucky Six Soup Dumplings. The flavors are: Traditional Pork, Mala Pork, Black Truffle Pork, Shrimp & Pork, Chicken, & Crab Meat. I love how you get 1 of each! Each one had a distinct flavor and tasted like the filling. The only one I wasn't wild about was the chicken but that's just personal preference. I also ordered the Pork, Shrimp, and Veg pan fried dumplings. I wasn't quite as wowed by these. I didn't think the filling was that flavorful and I would have liked to see more crispy edge on the dumplings. The lacey cornstarch was fine but it needed more. I'd been looking forward to trying this place for a while, and it did not disappoint! Came here on a weekend afternoon with a friend and loved it!! First, the interior, wow. It's modern and super clean. I wonder if they import the fixtures and furnishings directly from China because everything is so nice and well decorated. The menu is super simple. We wanted the steamed buns too, but since they just opened, those weren't available yet so that just gives me a reason to come back! One thing I really loved is you can see the dumpling makers working right in the middle of the restaurant. It's such a nice touch! The staff were so warm and attentive and constantly checking in on us and keeping our waters full. The bathroom was super clean too, just a heads up that it's single person use, so plan accordingly during a busy lunch rush. My only wishlist item would be adding a drink menu with teas. We ordered couple of different soup dumplings to try, but my favorite was the crab and pork. Ended up ordering 4 more between 2 of us. I really liked the flavor. However the dumplings were served kinda warm and many broken pieces so the juice were all gone. For the shrimp wonton soup, broth was tasty, shrimp wonton was okay. I can skip it next time. Delmar Loop has a lot of new spots lately, and Dumplings Plus is one of them. If you remember Blue Ocean, you'll be surprised by the transformation. The place is so spacious, clean, and bright. Definitely a different vibe. I went to lunch there with some friends recently and thought it was good. The menu reminded us of a spot we liked in NYC, so we had some expectations. We tried the pork ribs, fried chicken wings, vegetables, and two orders of their Lucky Six Dumplings. For a while, St. Louis only had one place for soup dumplings, but now I'm glad there are more options. Out of the ones I've tried, this was the best so far. Most places have dumplings with a bit of a gamey taste, but these were clean and fresh. I hope they keep it that way because I know it's difficult to get rid of the gamey taste. Prices are fair, and everything we ordered tasted good. The only downside was that the pork ribs were cold, so they might have been sitting out. Dumpling Plus delivered exactly what I needed with the shrimp wonton soup. Big yes. Immediate yes. The broth had that soothing quality. The wontons were delicate and flavorful without falling apart into sadness halfway through the bowl. Unfortunately, for the pescatarian delegation, meat has infiltrated basically every other dumpling on the menu. The pork soup dumplings were excellent! The dumpling skin was thin but had good structural integrity (no spillage), and there was plenty of juice in each dumpling. The pan fried pork shrimp veg dumplings weren't very fried so it was a bit disappointing compared to the picture (and basically tasted like the regular dumplings since there was no crisp). And the pork filling tasted and looked a bit undercooked. Cucumber salad was nice and refreshing, adding a nice balance to the dumplings. Atmosphere and service were both great! First regarding the food: the general theme across the dishes was that the flavors were very muted. The meat inside the dumplings didn't seem very seasoned and the broth was very diluted. The pork ribs were the least flavorful of the dishes, tasting only like braised meat with a chewy rather than soft texture. The pan fried dumplings were better but overall not very crispy. I found myself having to use more soy sauce and chili oil than I would like for dumplings to give the dishes some taste. Additionally, it is quite pricey for the size of the food you get and everyone in my group left hungry. The interior is very gorgeous and modern. They have a little radio playing music by the door which rounds out the ambiance if you get to sit by the entrance. I also appreciated the waitress and hostess checking up on us and giving us a heads up about how to eat the dumplings without burning our mouths with the broth. Last night, I went to Dumpling Plus, a Chinese restaurant, specializing in Soup Dumplings. Fun fact, did you know that this one along with 2 other new Asian restaurants on Delmar Loop was owned by the same people? First impression, the inside was so beautiful. I loved the decorations and all the artworks on the wall. There was also a clear glass window so that you could observe how the dumplings were handmade. We ordered a steamer with the assorted 6-piece dumplings so that we could try all the different kinds of soup dumplings they had on their menu. Spoiler alert, they were all pretty good. My favorite would be the Mala Pork Soup Dumplings and the Black Truffle Soup Dumplings. The dumplings were definitely juicy and packed with plenty of soup. In addition, we also got the shrimp wontons and beef pan-fried dumplings. The shrimp wontons were good but the wrappers were little too thick and doughy. The beef pan-fried dumplings were juicy as well. It was a little salty for my taste but I liked the crispy bottoms. Overall, I think Dumpling Plus was a solid restaurant. I liked the variety of the soup dumplings. The staff were friendly as well. This will be a good spot for dates and gathering on the weekend. read more

I was so excited to spot this new dumpling restaurant while driving by, especially since it's much closer to home for me than other dumpling spots in the area. The ambience and decor were beautiful and made the whole experience feel welcoming and polished right from the start (it's what brought me in when I was headed to a different restaurant!). Since it was still one of their first few days open, you could tell they were actively working through the normal new restaurant adjustments, but the staff genuinely cared about making sure people had a good experience. Our waitress was great, and several other staff members checked on us throughout the night. Everyone seemed very involved and invested in the restaurant doing well. They also mentioned the menu will likely continue to grow and adapt over time, which is exciting. If it is your first visit, I highly recommend getting the sampler. My table especially loved the Mala Pork dumpling, Black Truffle Pork dumpling, and Crab Pork dumpling, but honestly every dumpling we tried was delicious. We also had pan fried dumplings that were excellent, though unfortunately I forgot to take photos. The food came out quickly and tasted fresh and flavorful. We did have a small hiccup during our visit, but they handled it very well and went above and beyond to leave a good impression. Even during the early opening rush, it was obvious they cared a lot about customer experience and wanted feedback as they continue improving. I definitely plan to come back and am excited to see how the restaurant develops once they are more established. I also really hope they eventually add dessert buns because taro or chocolate buns would be amazing. We ordered fried chicken wings and 3 kinds of soup dumplings: Mala pork, shrimp/pork and chicken. Everything tasted great! Favorite would be Mala and then chicken. The food came out fast. The chicken wings came out in 5min and then all of the dumplings came, maybe 10min later at most, as we were finishing the wings. Our server was nice and checked in frequently which was great.
