I was in the Loop a couple of weeks ago and got excited when I saw Dumpling Plus even though it wasn't open yet. I love dumplings! I stopped in on a Monday evening. I ordered the Lucky Six Soup Dumplings. The flavors are: Traditional Pork, Mala Pork, Black Truffle Pork, Shrimp & Pork, Chicken, & Crab Meat. I love how you get 1 of each! Each one had a distinct flavor and tasted like the filling. The only one I wasn't wild about was the chicken but that's just personal preference. I also ordered the Pork, Shrimp, and Veg pan fried dumplings. I wasn't quite as wowed by these. I didn't think the filling was that flavorful and I would have liked to see more crispy edge on the dumplings. The lacey cornstarch was fine but it needed more. The service was friendly, the place is nice, and I love that you can order a Diet Coke. I'll be back!

I'd been looking forward to trying this place for a while, and it did not disappoint! Came here on a weekend afternoon with a friend and loved it!! First, the interior, wow. It's modern and super clean. I wonder if they import the fixtures and furnishings directly from China because everything is so nice and well decorated. The menu is super simple. We ordered the variety soup dumplings, a shrimp soup, and the pan fried shrimp dumplings. Everything tasted authentic and fresh. We wanted the steamed buns too, but since they just opened, those weren't available yet so that just gives me a reason to come back! One thing I really loved is you can see the dumpling makers working right in the middle of the restaurant. It's such a nice touch! The staff were so warm and attentive and constantly checking in on us and keeping our waters full. The bathroom was super clean too, just a heads up that it's single person use, so plan accordingly during a busy lunch rush. My only wishlist item would be adding a drink menu with teas. But overall, this place is a gem. The food is delicious, the vibe is great, and I have a feeling it's going to become a serious go to. Can't wait to come back for those steamed buns!

We ordered couple of different soup dumplings to try, but my favorite was the crab and pork. Ended up ordering 4 more between 2 of us. I really liked the flavor. However the dumplings were served kinda warm and many broken pieces so the juice were all gone. For the shrimp wonton soup, broth was tasty, shrimp wonton was okay. I can skip it next time. We did have to wait almost 40 minutes for our order. They currently don't do takeout order.

100/100!! We had the lucky box, spring rolls, wonton soup, and the chicken steamed goyza. All were amazing. Highly recommend. Very knowledgeable staff. Loved the atmosphere and aesthetics.

My son and I stumbled on this new place while walking in the Loop and gave it a try. The menu is focused on dumplings. We each shared the cucumber salad and shrimp wonton soup - both were great! And then we each ordered the Lucky Six soup dumplings so that we could try every variety. All were fantastic and the service was friendly and attentive. We will be definitely be going back!

It's an OK/Good Spot. The place is clean and they can accommodate a lot of people, but the food comes out a bit slow. We tried a variety of things. Fried chicken was cooked well, but lacked some flavor. Pan fried dumplings were ok. Wontons were Ok. The soup dumplings were definitely the star. I wish that they'd spread them out wider so that they didn't get stuck and spill the soup all over.

First regarding the food: the general theme across the dishes was that the flavors were very muted. The meat inside the dumplings didn't seem very seasoned and the broth was very diluted. The pork ribs were the least flavorful of the dishes, tasting only like braised meat with a chewy rather than soft texture. The pan fried dumplings were better but overall not very crispy. I found myself having to use more soy sauce and chili oil than I would like for dumplings to give the dishes some taste. Additionally, it is quite pricey for the size of the food you get and everyone in my group left hungry. The interior is very gorgeous and modern. They have a little radio playing music by the door which rounds out the ambiance if you get to sit by the entrance. I also appreciated the waitress and hostess checking up on us and giving us a heads up about how to eat the dumplings without burning our mouths with the broth. Overall, it's a decent place to at least try but I would not return.

Last night, I went to Dumpling Plus, a Chinese restaurant, specializing in Soup Dumplings. Fun fact, did you know that this one along with 2 other new Asian restaurants on Delmar Loop was owned by the same people? First impression, the inside was so beautiful. I loved the decorations and all the artworks on the wall. There was also a clear glass window so that you could observe how the dumplings were handmade. We ordered a steamer with the assorted 6-piece dumplings so that we could try all the different kinds of soup dumplings they had on their menu. Spoiler alert, they were all pretty good. My favorite would be the Mala Pork Soup Dumplings and the Black Truffle Soup Dumplings. The dumplings were definitely juicy and packed with plenty of soup. In addition, we also got the shrimp wontons and beef pan-fried dumplings. The shrimp wontons were good but the wrappers were little too thick and doughy. The beef pan-fried dumplings were juicy as well. It was a little salty for my taste but I liked the crispy bottoms. Overall, I think Dumpling Plus was a solid restaurant. I liked the variety of the soup dumplings. The staff were friendly as well. This will be a good spot for dates and gathering on the weekend.

I was so excited to spot this new dumpling restaurant while driving by, especially since it's much closer to home for me than other dumpling spots in the area. The ambience and decor were beautiful and made the whole experience feel welcoming and polished right from the start (it's what brought me in when I was headed to a different restaurant!). Since it was still one of their first few days open, you could tell they were actively working through the normal new restaurant adjustments, but the staff genuinely cared about making sure people had a good experience. Our waitress was great, and several other staff members checked on us throughout the night. Everyone seemed very involved and invested in the restaurant doing well. They also mentioned the menu will likely continue to grow and adapt over time, which is exciting. If it is your first visit, I highly recommend getting the sampler. My table especially loved the Mala Pork dumpling, Black Truffle Pork dumpling, and Crab Pork dumpling, but honestly every dumpling we tried was delicious. We also had pan fried dumplings that were excellent, though unfortunately I forgot to take photos. The food came out quickly and tasted fresh and flavorful. We did have a small hiccup during our visit, but they handled it very well and went above and beyond to leave a good impression. Even during the early opening rush, it was obvious they cared a lot about customer experience and wanted feedback as they continue improving. I definitely plan to come back and am excited to see how the restaurant develops once they are more established. I also really hope they eventually add dessert buns because taro or chocolate buns would be amazing. Overall, a very promising new spot with delicious food, beautiful atmosphere, and a team that clearly wants to succeed.

Ambience, you can see them make the dumplings!

Weekday visits are pretty chill but weekend dinner time gets busy, just something to plan around. Also a heads up on parking, the lot isn't very big so when it's packed it can be tough to find a spot. Would recommend carpooling if you can. I have a pretty low spice tolerance but there are still so many delicious dishes to choose from if you look around the menu. The soups are so hearty and comforting. Insider tip: the tofu egg dish is not on the menu but ask for it anyway. It is so worth it and the best way I can describe it is like eating a savory cloud puff. So unique and so good. The service is always super efficient, food comes out fast, and the staff will get you in and out. Every single dish I've had has been full of flavor and nothing has missed yet. Would absolutely come back and highly recommend.

It was excellent and had just the right amount of heat. I also enjoyed the smoky ham fried rice, although it lacked the distinct smoky aroma I was expecting. Some of the other dishes didn't quite land for me. The fish soup wasn't my favorite, and the beef noodle soup wasn't especially memorable. The cumin lamb, however, was better than expected and ended up being one of the stronger dishes we ordered. That said, the service was friendly, the portions were generous, and there are plenty of interesting options on the menu. I'd definitely come back to try some different dishes next time.

I've been a regular at Cate Zone Chinese Café for a long time and usually go once or twice a month…read more I always order the crispy fish and mala tofu, and up until recently, I loved this place enough to justify a 30 minute drive. Unfortunately, my most recent visit completely changed that. I went on Sunday, 11/23, the weekend before Thanksgiving. I worked from 6-3 that day and placed my usual order online around 1:00-1:30 pm for ASAP pickup so I could grab it before their lunch break. I even left work early to make it there. When I arrived around 2:40 pm, I was told my order wouldn't be ready until 5:00 pm and that I would have to come back. I showed them my order confirmation, which originally showed a pickup time around 2:50 pm. Even when I refreshed the website, it showed 3:30 pm, still nowhere near 5:00. The cashier, a young man, was dismissive and didn't seem to care at all that my time had been wasted or that the information given online didn't match what I was being told in person. This was extremely frustrating and honestly unacceptable, especially for a place I've been loyal to for so long. I wasted my time, left work early for nothing, and left without food. As much as I've loved Cate Zone in the past, this experience was enough to make me question whether I'll be returning.

I flinch whenever I hear the "movoc" and I get so excited I want to throw up whenever someone suggests going to movoc for a hangout. There are lots of toppings to choose from, and I think that the concept of hot pot price by weight just like FroYo is fun and unique. Service is fast, and clean. The hot pot was delicious and not too spicy and the sauces they had to offer were very delicious as well. Not too salty. It's a wonderful place, whether you go alone or with friends.

Apparently, I wasn't the only one because this place got packed by 6p on a weekday! The line was out the door. It can be a little confusing for a first time goer as you enter the place and grab a bowl to select the ingredients you want to eat. The minimum weight that you have to buy is 0.9 lbs, but you really won't know how much your bowl weighs until you get up to the cashier and put it on the scale. My bowl was underweight my first time through, so I went back to grab more ingredients. If I had to guess the minimum cost for a 0.9 lb bowl, it's probably about $16, which is a pretty good price for a hot pot. My bowl weighed about 0.97 and it was way more than I could comfortably eat. The next decision you have to make after you have selected your ingredients is the base and spicy level. I went with #1 Oil splash spicy soup at medium spice level. Now, I enjoy spicy foods, but this was at the upper limit of enjoyability. Although tasty, I think the oil in the broth got to be too much and I will want to try a different base next time. After you pay for your food, you get a number which you take to a table of your choosing and wait for your bowl to come out (they cook it for you). There is a drinking water station next to the free rice station, which was around the corner from the complimentary pickled vegetable station. Overall, positive experience and I would return for more. .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2026
