Vegas Wok is located in the Delmar Loop on a side street called Melville. Since I had already parked in the Loop for my hair appointment, we walked over. The restaurant is a small, quaint spot that's pretty much quiet except for the sounds of people eating their food. Our food was out within 5 minutes from ordering. First came the appetizers and then our entrees. I ordered the orange chicken combo plate with Crab Rangoon. My friends ordered General Tso's chicken, Lo Mein Noodles, egg rolls, dumplings and more Crab Rangoon for us to share. When I bit into my first piece, it was piping hot. I had to let it cool down! Once it cooled down a bit, the red chili came through really strong - and a bit too much for my level of spice. I loved that I could see actual orange zest throughout the sauce. You only get two pieces of broccoli and a healthy serving of white rice. I would love to come back and try some more dishes. This was definitely a hidden gem!

Beef Tomato & Egg with Beef

Vegas Wok feels like a little hidden gem. It's located along the Del Mar Loop area down one of the smaller streets, and has kind of limited seating. It feels pretty authentic and unpretentious, and the assortment of dishes is very homey. Service is so fast for a sit-down place of this quality, and it feels like their entire staff is well-trained for this. The food was also very affordable, and it makes for the perfect quick comfort meal. I ordered the beef tomato egg with rice, and it came out probably in 5 minutes steaming. The beef was so tender and flavorful in a way that juxtaposed with the tomato sauce's sweetness beautifully. The egg was perfectly cooked (not soggy, not dry) and added nice texture. The tomatoes were also very well cooked in that they weren't soft or too hard. Truly can't complain about Vegas Wok, and will likely be back whenever I feel like I need a home-cooked-esque meal.

Egg with shrimp on rice

There are a lot of Chinese places on the loop that have come and gone, but I hope Vegas Wok is here to stay! This is such a great place for good, authentic Chinese food that always hits home and is super affordable with generous portions. Many of the dishes that come with rice are just about $10 and their prices haven't gone up much at all in the past few years. It's the perfect spot for students who are coming and going from the loop to campus. While there are only about 4 tables for dine in since it's a small space, ordering take out is always fast and the staff at the counter are always so friendly. My favorite dish is the minced pork with eggplant on rice, but there are so many others that are amazing and that you can't go wrong with!

Minced pork w. Eggplant

A small hole-in-the-wall place off a corner of the Delmar loop. It looks unassuming outside but the food we had was so good. We had the tomato & egg w. Beef and Minced Beef w. Eggplant and they both came out quickly and PIPING HOT, the way it should be. The eggplant was a bit salty but still really good. Very home cooked meal style. You order and pay at the front before the food comes out. Only street parking and the few spots at the back available to park.

Shrimp lo mein
Jaz M.

I had shrimp lo mein and crab Rangoon. There were about 7-8 dime size shrimp in the container. The noodles were ok. The crab Rangoons were really sweet, not what I'm used to and not my preference. I tried the vegetable fried rice and that was pretty good slightly better than the noodles. There is street parking. Worth trying.

tofu and broccoli

My first time trying vegas wok and it did not disappoint! The crab rangoon (not pictured) was delicious. The tofu and broccoli dish was great, could have been a touch more flavorful but hit the spot.

Happen to walk by this place in the loop and gave it a try. It is a small restaurant with delicious food and an extensive menu! The seating was limited but we were able to get a table. The food came out pretty quick (no more than 15 min wait) Both dishes we got were pretty spicy but very tasty!! Will definitely go back. Affordable, quick, friendly staff

Around 1400 on October 31, I was in the Delmar Loop and decided to stop by. I found parking near the bank. Street parking wasn't available at the time. I glanced over the menu and decided on plain lo mein spring rolls, and canned soy milk. It took ten minutes or less to receive the order and there was very limited seating. I settled on patio seating outdoor. Walking to an open seat, I passed 5-10 people dining in that I immediately regretted ordering so plainly. The menu had much more to offer than that. However, I will say my meal was delicious and who would've ever thought canned soy milk would be a decent pairing? I would visit again!

General tso
Emma J.

The food was quick and the general tso's had great flavor. The breading on the chicken was definitely too thick to the point where some pieces only tasted like breading, but it was overall ok. The rice and crab Rangoon where yummy, but the Rangoon could use a little more filling. Small eating area so I would recommend eating outside or ordering to go. 7/10

Spicy beef noodle soup

I don't rly know why so many talk about this place because the food is just mid for me. It's located on delmar loop and the shop is quite small, holding only a few tables. The price is pretty reasonable. I got the pork and rice the first time I went. It was ok; kind of bland with no fresh flavor. I had a problem with how greasy it was as it was swimming in oil. It did fill me up though. The second time I got the beef stew with noodles, thinking nothing could go wrong with a classic beef noodles. Again, it was ok. Weak flavors, too salty and too oily again. The noodles were not chewy enough and did not absorb the flavor. A bit underwhelming. I'll try ordering something else next time.

Mongolian Beef, but where's the beef?!?!
Jerome M.

Ordered Mongolian Beef and it's more like Mongolian Onion. I had maybe 5 pieces of thin sliced beef in this dish. Also, got the combo and I didn't get my egg roll. Maybe other dishes are better, but this sure wasn't.

Singapore noodle

Vegas Wok is a hidden gem for Chinese food in the Loop! They have a diverse menu with quick service. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was the delicious aroma in this hole in the wall restaurant. The cashier knew the menu well and told us about some of the vegetarian options listed below. You seat yourselves after ordering at the register. The first time we came here we ordered the dinner combo Szechuan chicken and the mapo tofu with pork. The Szechuan chicken came with a lot of veggies but unfortunately the chicken portion was quite small. The mapo tofu with pork was plenty and had a nice spicy flavor, but we felt that the numbing peppercorn was a little too much. On our second visit, we ordered the Singapore noodles and the braised beef with Szechuan oil sauce. The Singapore noodle is great bang for your buck because it comes with egg, shrimp, and chicken. I'm not a fan of the curry flavoring of the noodle, but that's just my personal preference - I would still recommend it since it was really well done! My favorite so far is the braised beef in Szechuan oil sauce. The beef was tender, spicy, and full of flavor! For you vegetarians out there, the staff told me the following are vegetarian friendly! - Vegetable fried rice - Vegetable lo mein - Dinner combos 19-22: Steamed mixed veg, Kung pao tofu, Broccoli with tofu, Vegetable with tofu - Chef special #9 Mapo tofu with rice (ask to remove pork) - Chef special #11 Tomato and egg with rice (ask to remove beef) Overall, Vegas Wok offers delightfully savory dishes which are superior to the classic Chinese take out in STL. Will be back for more!

Had this place bookmarked for a while and finally got to try it. Mainly wanted to try the spicy beef soup with rice noodles. But decided ro order a few other things since they looked pretty legit. Also ordered the beef lo mein, mapo tofu, and crab rangoons. Everything I had was amazing!!!! So goooooood. The beef soup was perfectly spicy with nice fatty brisket pieces. The mapo tofu had that tingly peppercorn szechuan tingle. The lo mein was also flavorful and delicious. And can you ever really go wrong with crab rangoon?! Will 100% be adding this to my go to list of restaurants. Can't wait to try what else is on their menu. Also got it to go and everything was still amazingly piping hot when I got home!

Weekday visits are pretty chill but weekend dinner time gets busy, just something to plan around. Also a heads up on parking, the lot isn't very big so when it's packed it can be tough to find a spot. Would recommend carpooling if you can. I have a pretty low spice tolerance but there are still so many delicious dishes to choose from if you look around the menu. The soups are so hearty and comforting. Insider tip: the tofu egg dish is not on the menu but ask for it anyway. It is so worth it and the best way I can describe it is like eating a savory cloud puff. So unique and so good. The service is always super efficient, food comes out fast, and the staff will get you in and out. Every single dish I've had has been full of flavor and nothing has missed yet. Unfortunately, my most recent visit completely changed that. I went on Sunday, 11/23, the weekend before Thanksgiving. I worked from 6-3 that day and placed my usual order online around 1:00-1:30 pm for ASAP pickup so I could grab it before their lunch break. I even left work early to make it there. When I arrived around 2:40 pm, I was told my order wouldn't be ready until 5:00 pm and that I would have to come back. I showed them my order confirmation, which originally showed a pickup time around 2:50 pm. Even when I refreshed the website, it showed 3:30 pm, still nowhere near 5:00. The cashier, a young man, was dismissive and didn't seem to care at all that my time had been wasted or that the information given online didn't match what I was being told in person. This was extremely frustrating and honestly unacceptable, especially for a place I've been loyal to for so long. I wasted my time, left work early for nothing, and left without food. As much as I've loved Cate Zone in the past, this experience was enough to make me question whether I'll be returning.

It's a great place for friends or family or alone too. They to takeout as well or order delivery. The ingredient selection is really impressive and very vegetarian friendly. Everything looked fresh and they refill often. There are also lots of soup base options to choose from plus a stir fry option if you want to mix it up. The make your own sauce station is a great touch too. The staff works incredibly fast at turning tables and keeping everything clean. They only have one bathroom (it's clean) so just be aware for wait times. They also give you one free rice bowl which is a small but good bonus. There's a good amount of seating though I've heard the line goes out the door on weekends. Overall I really loved this place and I am already looking forward to coming back.

Apparently, I wasn't the only one because this place got packed by 6p on a weekday! The line was out the door. It can be a little confusing for a first time goer as you enter the place and grab a bowl to select the ingredients you want to eat. The minimum weight that you have to buy is 0.9 lbs, but you really won't know how much your bowl weighs until you get up to the cashier and put it on the scale. My bowl was underweight my first time through, so I went back to grab more ingredients. If I had to guess the minimum cost for a 0.9 lb bowl, it's probably about $16, which is a pretty good price for a hot pot. My bowl weighed about 0.97 and it was way more than I could comfortably eat. The next decision you have to make after you have selected your ingredients is the base and spicy level. I went with #1 Oil splash spicy soup at medium spice level. Now, I enjoy spicy foods, but this was at the upper limit of enjoyability. Although tasty, I think the oil in the broth got to be too much and I will want to try a different base next time. After you pay for your food, you get a number which you take to a table of your choosing and wait for your bowl to come out (they cook it for you). There is a drinking water station next to the free rice station, which was around the corner from the complimentary pickled vegetable station. Overall, positive experience and I would return for more. .|\---/| | @_@ | ..\_^_/..2026
