Needed some general tsos chicken, and stumbled upon west end wok thanks to internet algorithms reading my mind and their instagram popping up for me! The good: super clean spot. Refined, polished. You don't see this level of cleanliness in most fast casual/primarily takeaway chinese spots. The workers were nice as well. Friendly, and efficient. Also, super good prices. Ended up being like $17 after tax and tip on a whole order of general tsos which came w 2 spring rolls and a rangoon(you can customize this side option which is nice, no upcharge). The rangoon filling was great. A thick, gooey glob of creamy, rich, and slightly tangy paste that paints your taste buds as you crunch a golden wonton. Also, ingredients seem very fresh. The general tsos sauce had bits of freshly minced ginger so i enjoyed the extra texture, punch, and bite. The mid: the chicken was dry, and there was not a ton of sauce. Plus, the sauce wasn't as flavorful as I'd like in my general tsos. I prefer a nice sweet tang, this just seemed like a thin, subliminally salty sauce w some spice. Lots of carry out orders while we were there but we opted to eat in again. Order at the counter, a couple of workers there working in tandem, the were both nice and helpful. I ordered the combo plate that is available in lunch or dinner options at different price points. You can order a full order that comes with rice, too. I got Mongolian Beef with Egg Drop Soup, fried rice, and two Crab Rangoon as I didn't want the spring roll. We also got pan fried pot stickers. Egg drop soup was brought out first. It was good, I enjoyed it. Didn't automatically come with crunchy noodles and I took that as a sign I didn't need them, lol. Pot stickers and sauce were good, a little more ginger than I am used to be enjoyed them. My combo had a decent amount of food. The Mongolian beef had a good flavor, nice crispy rice noodles. It has a ton of white onions. The fried rice was good, no peas and carrots which makes me happy. I wasn't a fan of the Crab Rangoon, if you like them on the sweet side, you will enjoy these. Went to West End Wok with one of my coworkers and I had a nice time! It's a quick walk away from WashU medical center so it's a good place to stop for both patient and employee alike. I ordered the lunch special and it was a good amount of food for about $10-12. I got an egg drop soup, two sides (1 spring roll and 1 crab Rangoon) and a main dish which for me was sesame chicken. I ordered the Special Lo Mein from West End Wok through UberEats and these people literally gave me stale, parasitic food. The noodles were mushy and spoiled and overly coated in soy sauce and oil so as to mask the fact that the "special" meant days old. Literally 20 minutes after eating a serving, I was in and out of the bathroom until 5am this morning! The food almost killed me. I complained to UberEats and they've thankfully refunded me for this order. But I needed to make public this complaint because it was literally the most traumatic experience I've ever had ordering from a restaurant. Every entrée I have ordered I have enjoyed including Hunan Chicken (spicy), Snow Pea Chicken, and Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. I love their egg rolls with some hot Chinese mustard. If you are looking for a good lunch meal, their lunch combination specials are a great value. You get an entrée, rice, and three sides (soup, spring roll, crab rangoon) for $9.75. Fusion places are always a crapshoot. On this one, I lost. West end wok is a pan-Asian home of mediocrity. My request for Thai hot was met with a "huh?", and subsequent request for chilies was met with a blank stare. The portions were huge but the food had zero seasoning... and who the hell puts Schezhuan peppers in Pad Kee Mao? No basil, no Thai chilis, no flavor. I've had this dish at probably fifty Thai restaurants around the country and nobody has served me something so painfully bland. Never again. read more

In the past I've ordered their Hunan Tofu, Beef and Broccoli, Fried Chicken Wings, and House Lo Mein. Today I ordered their Buddhist Delight Dinner Combination which comes with rice (white or fried) and any combination of 3 sides (spring roll, soup, and/or crab rangoons) for all for $11.50. West End Wok is my go to spot whenever I am craving Chinese food and it never disappoints. The spring rolls were crispy and delicious and the fried tofu and vegetables in the Buddhist Delight were nicely coated in a balanced sweet and savory sauce. The egg drop soup too was a nice touch. My portions was large and all of my food was ready to go about 10 minutes after I ordered. It saddens me to leave this review because I really liked this restaurant. In the last few months I've been disappointed in the serving size I've received after ordering the same items for years. Last week I ordered delivery through uber eats- the bogo orange chicken and the west end beef. They both tasted like nothing but sugar. The beef was over fried, it had the consistency of beef jerky. The orange chicken sauce was like an orange/brown glob without any remnant of orange flavor. Even more insulting was both dishes are supposed to come with broccoli. The soup was not good (unless they gave me the wrong soup?) The General Tso I had strong feelings about. I didn't like it at all. The chicken didn't taste like it should. The sauce wasn't a typical GTC flavor. And the breading was borderline soggy. (I did get this to go, but I normally get Chinese to go and don't normally have this problem).
