A group of 4 of us had breakfast here. We were happy they were open on a Tuesday morning because many places are not. It is easy to pass by the place because biggest sign on building is for donut shop that previously occupied the space. We were the only people in dining there for most of the time. The waiter was nice but a little different too. He was happy to answer questions and share his thoughts on menu items. In fact he actually hung out at our table a little too long- we wanted to get on with our conversations. Ha. Anyway I had the avocado toast with an egg on top- it was huge order. And very good. I've only been there for their family style dinners on Monday night, which are always quite a feast for the $35 per person (price the last time I was there). You can also bring your own wine and/or beer which is nice. The problem is there is no advance announcement about what will be on the menu and they very rarely answer the phone or return calls if you try to inquire, even though they apparently like to know in advance that you are coming. This was a very cute brunch spot for breakfast. Unfortunately, during my visit, my party had a poor experience with their customer service. One guest in my party had a food allergy and informed the waitress. And when the food was brought out, their food included an item that they were allergic to. The waitress brought the item back to the kitchen, and we could audibly hear the chef in the kitchen, making remarks about the food being returned. And that it's the customers responsibility to inform the staff of allergies (which we had done). There was no compensation or apology given for this poor service experience and miscommunication. This was a very unfortunate experience because the food and other items we tried were very delicious. I had seen a lot of reviews raving about Milque Toast, and it has been on my "want to try" list ever since it opened. I was excited to give it a shot with my partner one day for a late brunch. We had just missed the morning rush, because the place was mostly empty. The hostess sat us and, when I asked about the interesting appliances on the wall, she told me about the history of the building with obvious, well-deserved pride. The seat we got was directly over an air vent, and it was freezing, so we moved to a different table. I asked for a hot dirty chai latte and the server seemed confused. I realized they only had iced chai on the menu, and despite how chilly I was, I decided to try it because I love a good dirty chai latte. My partner and I both got one, and it was disappointing -- way more milk than tea or espresso, without a noticeable caffeine effect. The straws are cool at least. The meal was underwhelming. My partner got the egg cocotte dish, a soupy, oily dish that the server suggested we stir. That left it basically inedible, and most of the egg whites looked super raw. Neither of us had ever had the dish before, so we looked up the proper way to eat it, but it neither looked right nor was to our taste. My partner ate the toast soldiers plain after giving up on trying to dip them in the egg mixture. I got the BEC and asked for ketchup for the potato wedges, which never came. They were more like potato chips anyway. I wasn't wild about the flavor or all the mayo on the sandwich, and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. I would try other dishes from this restaurant because I really wanted to love it. These two dishes, and the dirty chai lattes, just weren't all that great. Cute little cafe spot. We tried the milque toast, Norwegian pancakes, and eggs en cocotte. The eggs en cocotte will be a must order every time! Great flavors! I also really enjoyed the milque toast which is kind of a bread pudding style french toast, warm, cinnamon-y and sweet. We probably won't order the Norwegian pancakes again - they're a crepe style and they were just ok for us. We found them be bland. Will say that service was on the slower side for our visit, not sure if that is the norm but maybe keep that in mind if it is your first visit and you are in a schedule. So many things were bad with our recent dining experience it is hard to include everything. Our party of 4 visited Milque Toast on Mother's Day. I had reservations for this date for over two weeks and I visited their website several times prior to our visit. At no point was I informed there would be a price fix menu or what that would include. 2 of our party arrived first and ordered 2 plain coffees. They were still waiting for their coffee when we (the other 2 ) arrived. No one explained that upon arrival. We were just given the attached paper and their regular menu. Still with no coffee, no plate or silverware and no one coming to wait on the full party a plate of food was placed on the table, no explanation of what was being served but it was apparent we received the Mothers Day meal. The egg croquettes were undercooked and had to be sent back to be reheated. The rest of the food was underwhelming. A staff member was put out by the request to reheat the croquettes. I ordered an ice coffee when the food was placed on the table. I was served the ice coffee soon after which was the first and only quick service, yet it was full of coffee grounds. See attached picture. That's not mocha at the bottom of the glass. That's grounds! I sent it back and the replacement was fine. The bill finally came when requested and to my dismay we were charged $160 for the food. Extremely overpriced for what we received and price was never disclosed! All in all poor service, underwhelming food and I won't visit again. read more

I was really disappointed in the menu at this place. I found it on Yelp after looking for somewhere to eat close by the Budweiser brewery. We had just finished a tour and were starving. When we got there, I identified three things on the menu that sounded good. First I ordered the burger and was told they were out of beef. Okay, I'll have chicken then. "Sorry, we're out of chicken too" How do you operate a business with a fairly small menu to begin with and then not have several of the items available? I went a while ago and they had a mushroom pasta on the menu. I can't remember what it was called but it was memorable. I went before the rush started and it was nice and cozy by the window. The pasta might've been a gnocchi or something similar and it was so soft and pillowy and that a great chewy texture. It came with a green sauce but it was not pesto. First, when you walk in the door there's really no indication whether to have a seat or wait to be seated. I chose the former. Had to wait 5 minutes for a menu, even though there were only 4 of us in the restaurant. Second, the food took way too long to be delivered. I counted at least 30 minutes. Again, there were just a few in the restaurant, so it should have taken half the time. The server seemed completely uninterested. We were told that they were almost out of food, but would be preparing more if we wouldn't mind sitting at the bar. Next was a dish of cubed zuchini with almonds (actually quite tasty), and lastly bland slices of tofu. The tofu was a substitute for the salmon. There was hardly enough food for one person let alone three. When I asked if they would at least comp us for coffee, I was told no. The dessert was a tablespoon of vanilla icing with unidentified fingers of something. We would not have sat down if we hadn't been looking at the piles of terrific food in front of us. If they didn't think they could properly serve us, they should have asked us to return---which I will not do. read more

Amazing. I was recommend this place and went in not knowing what to expect. We ended up being actually blown away. Everything was so fresh, COLORFUL and packed with flavor. All of the bites made you take a minute to process and enjoy. The Icelandic soup was a standout for me. It was a bowl of berries with yogurt, granola and spices - served warm! The staff were so sweet and attentive. They're making magic here at Milque Toast Bar! PS - easy free parking on the street but this place can be hard to find. It is a small shop but we hear they will soon move to a larger space in 2024! Food - Overall, very good! We had an apple and cheese toast with walnuts, a fruit and cheese (berry compote over a sweet cheese), and a root garlic brûlée toast made with a variety of root vegetables with roasted garlic. We liked the fruit and cheese toast a lot but were super happy to see such a nice savory selection of toasts. Everything is shareable! 3 toasts for 3 people was enough for us. We also appreciated that they had unlimited coffee. Ambiance/Seating- This shop is small so not much space. Hopefully their new shop will offer more space to linger. The thin bistro style tables weren't comfortable, and the slats were awful for drinks. We accidentally spilled our drinks because the bottom of the cup was larger than the slat, unbalancing it. If there was a piece of glass on top there wouldn't be an issue with this. The shop itself was decorated well and spotted an arch paying homage to the Gateway Arch. There didn't seem to be any obvious restrooms. Service - The staff was great and helped explain the menu. Drinks took awhile since they said they could only make 1 hot beverage at a time. read more

My last day in St. Louis and my hubby picked this place for brunch. It was tricky to find the location, but found it after passing it once. My hubby doesn't normally eat trendy food, but he was blown away with the Fluffer Nutter and my Tarte Flambé. Kudos to the owner/chef with the amazing food. What a great night! I assumed that dinner at 6 meant sitting down with my friend and ordering from the menu--totally ready for brunch. What happened was infinitely better. When we arrived, most of the tables were arranged in a long line and we were told dinner was family-style. Soon, the room was flooded with people; we quickly learned most were artists and we'd unknowingly joined the opening night of an artist's gallery showing. The experience was unusual, unexpected, and wholly enjoyable. We met some wonderful, interesting people and had some great food, including watermelon with Tajin, a mushroom pasta dish, potatoes with cabbage, salmon, and plantains with ice cream. The variety was great and everything was delicious. Milque Toast doesn't seem to have a liquor license; no big deal. There is a long menu of other drink options, most of which sounded amazing. I can't believe I haven't found Milque Toast bar sooner. We stumbled across this gem when we were starving after hours of church service. The interior is simple yet extremely comfortable. The owner courteously serves and prepares all the food. Free street parking is plentiful outside the restaurant. I recommend parking at the side street next to Jefferson Ave, so it's safer to go in and out of the the car. This place offers both savory and sweet toast dishes along with coffee and yea. All dishes are served with fresh farm greens, fruit and mushrooms. Everything is undescribably delicious. The food is both so yummy and healthy, that I can eat her every meal. Milque Toast bar will start to have Saturday jazz brunch in April. I can't wait to try again at that time. read more

I went a different route to work so I can check out Milque Toast Bar. I walked in as soon as they opened and was welcomed by a sweet girl. I ordered their Lox Bagel and their Ube soda pop. All soda flavors were made in-house! The Ube was delicious and thick, but a little bit too sweet for me. I wish their ice machine worked because drinking lukewarm soda was not the best. However, I really enjoyed their lox bagel. Great flavor and it definitely fills you up. They weren't stingy with the salmon and gave generous amount. Street parking only! Wow!! No idea why this place wasn't totally packed. The food was sooo good! Hubs had the blue cheese baguette which was super spicy - in a good way! Currently no liquor license - but should have it soon. Only hiccup is that google maps displays their new address but routes you to their old location. Stumbled across this place after trying to get into another brunch spot nearby, but bailing after finding out it was a 45 minute wait. We decided to try Milque Toast Bar after seeing the great Yelp reviews, and were able to get a table with no wait on a Sunday morning. Don't let the simple menu descriptions here fool you, the toasts are loaded with fresh ingredients and so large that no one at our table was to finish their meal. We tried two different toasts: one with bleu cheese and fresh greens and another with heirloom tomatoes and mozzarella. It's worth the splurge to add eggs and bacon to each toast, it really helps turn it into a full breakfast. It also sounds like the menu here rotates all the time. Judging by how fresh all the ingredients were I'm guessing that's because they stay on top of what's in season, which I love. A vast majority of their seating is also outside, so you'll want to keep that in mind when planning a visit. This place lost a star for me because it was pretty slow, expensive for the experience you're getting, and they were sold out of a few items we wanted to try. Overall it was definitely a nice breakfast and the plates are delicious (which is what's most important) so I'd still say it's worth a visit if you're in the area! read more

I got off at Jefferson and 44, and this spot was easy to find! It is located in a building with other businesses, and is quaint and has such an authentic feeling. I parked on the street and walked in and was surprised at how small it was on the inside- which is part of it's appeal. There were two other customers in, and 1 person behind the counter. There's a menu on the wall with all of their food options- which many of them sounded delicious. I ordered a cold brew with oat milk. The person working poured it and allowed me to add my own oat milk, which I liked. I took a seat and answered some emails, and enjoyed. The cold brew was smooth and delicious- exactly how cold brew should be. I really liked the inside- the brick and decor make this spot have so much character and really exemplify a one of a kind spot. Next time I'm coming, I'm eating for sure!
