This was a very cute brunch spot for breakfast. Unfortunately, during my visit, my party had a poor experience with their customer service. One guest in my party had a food allergy and informed the waitress. And when the food was brought out, their food included an item that they were allergic to. The waitress brought the item back to the kitchen, and we could audibly hear the chef in the kitchen, making remarks about the food being returned. And that it's the customers responsibility to inform the staff of allergies (which we had done). There was no compensation or apology given for this poor service experience and miscommunication. This was a very unfortunate experience because the food and other items we tried were very delicious. I hope in the future they will provide a better experience, especially for guests who have food allergies.

We were just looking for a nice place to have breakfast/brunch and we truly lucked out finding Milque Toast! We had a wonderful experience with our waiter Gene and got to briefly meet the owner/chef. The food was AMAZING!! The milque toast is a must too!

I had seen a lot of reviews raving about Milque Toast, and it has been on my "want to try" list ever since it opened. I was excited to give it a shot with my partner one day for a late brunch. We had just missed the morning rush, because the place was mostly empty. The hostess sat us and, when I asked about the interesting appliances on the wall, she told me about the history of the building with obvious, well-deserved pride. The seat we got was directly over an air vent, and it was freezing, so we moved to a different table. I asked for a hot dirty chai latte and the server seemed confused. I realized they only had iced chai on the menu, and despite how chilly I was, I decided to try it because I love a good dirty chai latte. My partner and I both got one, and it was disappointing -- way more milk than tea or espresso, without a noticeable caffeine effect. The straws are cool at least. The meal was underwhelming. My partner got the egg cocotte dish, a soupy, oily dish that the server suggested we stir. That left it basically inedible, and most of the egg whites looked super raw. Neither of us had ever had the dish before, so we looked up the proper way to eat it, but it neither looked right nor was to our taste. My partner ate the toast soldiers plain after giving up on trying to dip them in the egg mixture. I got the BEC and asked for ketchup for the potato wedges, which never came. They were more like potato chips anyway. I wasn't wild about the flavor or all the mayo on the sandwich, and I couldn't bring myself to finish it. I would try other dishes from this restaurant because I really wanted to love it. These two dishes, and the dirty chai lattes, just weren't all that great. I'm hoping I can convince my partner to give it another chance with me so I can update this review with something more positive, but it will take a while!

Cute little cafe spot. We tried the milque toast, Norwegian pancakes, and eggs en cocotte. The eggs en cocotte will be a must order every time! Great flavors! I also really enjoyed the milque toast which is kind of a bread pudding style french toast, warm, cinnamon-y and sweet. We probably won't order the Norwegian pancakes again - they're a crepe style and they were just ok for us. We found them be bland. Will say that service was on the slower side for our visit, not sure if that is the norm but maybe keep that in mind if it is your first visit and you are in a schedule. We will definitely be back for the eggs and to try the breakfast sandwich which looked delicious!

The first word that comes to mind when I think of Milquetoast is "local." The ambiance is like a homey cafe, the staff is like and the food is like having a homemade meal... but from a professional chef. I also love that they have special events for the community like $10 lunch on Wednesdays and a communal, family style dinner on Mondays. It's great for lunch or dinner and although the toasts are great, they offer quite a diverse menu.

So many things were bad with our recent dining experience it is hard to include everything. Our party of 4 visited Milque Toast on Mother's Day. I had reservations for this date for over two weeks and I visited their website several times prior to our visit. At no point was I informed there would be a price fix menu or what that would include. 2 of our party arrived first and ordered 2 plain coffees. They were still waiting for their coffee when we (the other 2 ) arrived. No one explained that upon arrival. We were just given the attached paper and their regular menu. Still with no coffee, no plate or silverware and no one coming to wait on the full party a plate of food was placed on the table, no explanation of what was being served but it was apparent we received the Mothers Day meal. The egg croquettes were undercooked and had to be sent back to be reheated. The rest of the food was underwhelming. A staff member was put out by the request to reheat the croquettes. I ordered an ice coffee when the food was placed on the table. I was served the ice coffee soon after which was the first and only quick service, yet it was full of coffee grounds. See attached picture. That's not mocha at the bottom of the glass. That's grounds! I sent it back and the replacement was fine. The bill finally came when requested and to my dismay we were charged $160 for the food. Extremely overpriced for what we received and price was never disclosed! All in all poor service, underwhelming food and I won't visit again.

I was really disappointed in the menu at this place. I found it on Yelp after looking for somewhere to eat close by the Budweiser brewery. We had just finished a tour and were starving. When we got there, I identified three things on the menu that sounded good. First I ordered the burger and was told they were out of beef. Okay, I'll have chicken then. "Sorry, we're out of chicken too" How do you operate a business with a fairly small menu to begin with and then not have several of the items available? Nobody told us when we were handed menus that several things were out of stock. Once we ordered drinks, I didn't want to get up and leave so I ended up ordering what was the most expensive thing on the menu (and one of the only options available). Was it worth it? No, I would not return. Sadly, because the food was okay (a little over salted).

What a cute little place! There was parking to the right of the building and along the street. The Spanish Tortilla was quite tasty and the mini donuts were the perfect amount of sweet. I had the Fora to drink and that was so good; I tried to savor the flavor as much as possible. Would recommend for a little brunch! Menu is a little small, but I think anything on there is tasty.

The food is phenomenal. I had the fruit and cheese small plate. The homemade english muffin was fluffy and crispy. The cream cheese is delicious. My boyfriend ordered the Spanish Egg Tortilla, it was also great. It's a very big portion. The restaurant is small but very clean. The only compliant is the slow kitchen. The food is worth the wait though.

Amazing. I was recommend this place and went in not knowing what to expect. We ended up being actually blown away. Everything was so fresh, COLORFUL and packed with flavor. All of the bites made you take a minute to process and enjoy. The Icelandic soup was a standout for me. It was a bowl of berries with yogurt, granola and spices - served warm! The staff were so sweet and attentive. They're making magic here at Milque Toast Bar! PS - easy free parking on the street but this place can be hard to find. Our gps first took us to their old location then we passed the right location twice. The sign is above the building but the building is an old doughnut shop. Really cool & cute just a little confusing

I want to leave a 5 star for this restaurant, but I am a little disappointed being that it took an hour & 15 minutes to get our food. Everything we ordered all had eggs as main, & French toast the other entree was the jerk chicken which I could see would take the longest. Our waters were never filled while we waited, although our coffees stayed full. Our food tasted good & it came out hot but waiting that long left a bad impression. We were told it would take "a while" for presentation of the food but by the time food came out- I was just hungry at that point & didn't care what it looked like. The inside is very cute & open with a lot of natural lighting! Plenty of seating but it fits tight. Great for small parties or large parties up to 6. The menu offers plenty to choose from!

Looking back, it's been 4 years since I've been to this establishment and they've moved to a new location. This location is bigger, lighter, and just seems cleaner somehow. I absolutely LOVED the Confluence Kombucha flight (every single one!) and the Spanish Egg Tortilla was different and delicious. What I like about this place is how they have very unusual offerings. No same-o, same-o HERE!

Songbird makes great use of its space and should be near the top of your STL brunch list. A reasonably-sized (not-overwhelming) menu, great coffee, delicious cocktails, quick, attentive service, and undeniably delicous food. I took off on a redeye this morning (coffee courtesy of Blueprint), and landed on the Farm Sampler: two scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, sourdough toast, sliced avocado and sauteed shiitake mushrooms. Phenomenal flavors and textures. Toast is typically an afterthought for me, but the buttery crunch of the sourdough has to be spotlighted. The Bee's Knees cocktail was also a wonderfully refreshing prelude to the approaching STL summer. The time has come, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say: wake up, reserve, enjoy.

I was very excited to try them but left knowing I would not return. I waited 40 minutes on a weekday morning for a bar seat for one, standing because all the waiting area seats were taken. The hostess/waitress was very nice when she got to me, but you could tell that the amount of customers was simply too much to handle. Now, this was okay - I should have made a reservation, and it's not the staff's fault they were overwhelmed. However, the service once I sat down was patchy, delayed and distracted. I had to remind different servers of my presence, multiple times. I was willing to overlook this if the food had been fantastic, but unfortunately, their most popular item, the combo breakfast sandwich, was so incredibly heavy. The first bite was crispy, oily and fatty deliciousness, but by the third bite it was simply too rich. The sweet overtone of the honey was lovely but did not cut through the grease. By the time I finished half, I understood why several diners had left the other half uneaten. My personal preference is for a fresh, umami yet balanced sandwich that does not make me feel queasy after finishing it. This was not the sandwich for me. There was a long delay after I finished eating for them to bring me the check. My whole meal took around 2.5 hours. I had arrived starving and, I like to think, with an open mind. These are my honest, unfiltered observations. It is wonderful that so many people want to try their food and that their new space is bigger. Their decor, glassware and menu were cute and tasteful. I also love that they grew from a farmers market food stall and that they source their ingredients locally. With their level of popularity, I think they should focus on preserving the quality of their service and food.

My wife chuckled on how they served her coffee in a Christmas cup. Mine came in a plain white cup. But I still excessively chuckled on how funny the menu is and the staff are. The staff are very attentive to how your food tastes and make plenty of funny jokes with you. They also are very descriptive on what the specials on pancakes and omelettes are. As well as being very honest. I ordered the Benny's Got Beef Or Belly with Brisket. I know, long name. I watched the weather while my food was being prepared, and occasionally looking at the PBS TV nearby. My wife was drawing with my 11 year old daughter (and writing "secret messages") as their food was being prepped and prepared. When my food finally came out, I immediately took a bite. The brisket was very juicy and tender. And the eggs were delicious on the side. I tried this place several years ago. Was still the same good taste that I remember when I took my wife to this place. Very amazing place. Will come again.

While it is not likely the norm, the owners, Mark & Leslie, met us at the front door, quite literally inviting us into their establishment. It was simply the most welcoming manner in which to be introduced to this treasure and Leslie quickly engaged us with the history of the home and how she and Mark had recently become the owners. We chose this destination based upon the significance of the Fleur-de-lis to my love, a native New Orleanian. Given St. Louis' rich French heritage, the mansion was originally outfitted with four chimneys that feature the fleur-de-lis design and the pattern is repeated throughout the home. While we enjoyed a quiet morning coffee in the back of the property, a lovely shaded patio area, she noticed how many places the symbol was present. She actually made mention to Mark & Leslie that they could make an activity out of counting/finding all of the fleur-de-lis around the home. What a fun idea! We were fortunate enough to book the Tower Grove Park room, a spacious room fitted with a king-size bed and a two-person jacuzzi tub. There is even a 'fainting couch' for that extra French touch! The bed was amazingly comfortable and the decor and accoutrements were exceptional, right down to the pocket doors and writing desk. But a B&B is set apart by the fare served in the morning, and this is where Mark, a chef by trade, and Leslie, a self-taught baker, knock it out of the park. That morning's menu included a fruit starter, fresh juice, Leslie's home-baked sourdough toast and home-baked English muffins, and Mark's egg and sausage soufflés with country potatoes. The entire breakfast had us completely over the moon! We felt so at home that we wanted to clear our own place - so we did! The rates are competitive and well worth every moment spent here. There is parking behind the property, as well as across from the property, and each guest is allowed a unique security code so as to gain entry while you are enjoying your stay. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this getaway, and Mark, Leslie, & assistant Sammy made us feel like family from the moment we crossed the threshold.
