I loved it! I saw their picture in St. Louis Magazine and instantly decided I needed to check them out. I came a little after 11 and there was no crowd. It's decorated beautifully with black and gold decor and has seating inside and outside. I was greeted warmly by everyone and when I went to the front, I showed the attendant the picture from the magazine. She apologized and said that was from their catering menu but did make other helpful suggestions. I went with the Kufta in Tahini sauce and got a bite size baklabyte and a semolina pastry. Within five minutes of me waiting, people started filling in left and right! Once it was done, the owner came and gave me instructions on how best to eat the dish. She was incredibly kind and personable and I enjoyed our conversation. When I got home, I did as she said and the dish didn't disappoint. The tahini sauce was tangy. I couldn't name all the spices but knew I kept wanting more. The meat was super tender, juicy, and flavorful. The bread was an excellent addition and was great for dipping. Somehow I managed to save room for dessert, and although they were bite-sized, each packed a powerful punch. The semolina pasty was light and flaky and had a semi-sweet filling. The baklabyte was incredible and had a good amount of pistachios, which I wasn't accustomed to but would certainly eat more and more of. New place so have to give them a little grace but man was I disappointed. Pros: Cool vibe Clean and bright Friendly staff Cons: Overpriced (lunch for 2 was over $80 had coffee, a shared appetizer and 2 sandwiches /pitas) Loud Poor expediting timing, got the mezze platter as an appetizer, but it wasn't served to us until after we hot meals. At their price point I'd expect table service, but you have to order at the counter (and be assigned a table) then they do bring your order out to you. But once the food was delivered no one ever checked on us to refill our waters (they didn't have a water station for us to get any ourselves) The food was tasty but gonna give them some time before I consider going back. read more

Some restaurants are just meant to be. I just returned from an unforgettable trip across Africa, and the moment I walked into Byte, the very first thing I saw was a stunning cheetah painting. Right now, I am the cheetah. The cheetah is me. Fast, curious, always exploring. And just like a cheetah, Byte is the fastest way to your heart. Owners Garam and Sal are peaches in the community! They've built a place that feels like home. Their cafe is all about the Levantine and Mediterranean cuisine inspired by family recipes. It's love! My friend and I shared the Freekeh Salad and the Sabich Sandwich, and both were outstanding. These are not your boring flavors that you can get at just any restaurant. Of course, I couldn't leave without dessert. I brought a few treats home, and suddenly I became the most popular person in my household. Worth every bite. St. Louis is lucky to have this. read more

Byte is a cozy cafe/restaurant placed in an apartment complex. You order at the counter and then they bring your food/drink out to you. I really loved the iced date latte - it wasn't very sweet and honestly very coffee forward! It was frothy and delicious. I also got the golden shawarma - it was good but maybe not my favorite Mediterranean dish ever. I felt like it needed a side for the price and the plate felt strangely empty. It was chicken flavored with turmeric (I think) and a tomato cucumber feta salad stuffed in a pita. The people were nice. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It's a nice ambiance and decorated nicely. It's not huge and definitely more of a cafe vibe! read more

Byte is my new favorite restaurant!!! I have been waiting YEARS for this to open, not even joking! I started ordering catering from Byte years ago and it was always a crowd pleaser! The new space is absolutely beautiful! It is the perfect place to meet for a meal, work, have a meeting, the possibilities are endless. We tried most of their pastries and fell in love! My fav pastry has to be their spinach pie but they were all outstanding. We ordered the Byte Mezze, Eggplant Carpaccio, and Shakshuka. I have been dreaming about every bite since! The eggplant is the best I've ever had. Be sure to save room for Halva bites because they're so good. Stop reading, get in your car, & go to Byte ASAP! read more

Awesome new Mediterranean coffee / breakfast shop off of Delmar. Got a date Latte and 2 sandwiches. Beautiful interior with a European modern design. Good amount of seating if you want to stay and get some work done Latte was strong, not too sweet and great. Both sandwiches tasted awesome, fresh, made to order. I've been a regular at Byte since the beginning, and what keeps me coming back is the consistency and quality. Their coffee is genuinely a standard deviation above most coffee shops. The espresso is smooth and never overly acidic, and their pistachio and saffron lattes are exceptional. They use real pistachio cream, and you can taste the difference. This isn't an artificial-flavor-and-sugar shop masquerading as a coffee shop--the coffee is the point, and the ingredients deserve to be in the cup. I almost always get the pistachio latte, while my wife--who doesn't even like lattes--now looks forward to her saffron latte as a Friday treat. That probably says more than I can about how good they are. And that attention to ingredients carries through the whole menu. They're using quality ingredients across the board, not just pushing Sysco mass-production out of the kitchen and dressing it up for Instagram. There's a noticeable difference between food that was actually thought about and made with good ingredients and food that came off a restaurant-supply truck ready to heat and serve. Byte is very clearly the former. Just as importantly, they're consistently warm and friendly. Whether I order one coffee and settle into a corner to work for several hours or bring my family in for lunch, we always feel welcome. I've also watched them work through the inevitable kinks that come with opening any new restaurant. They're hardworking people who clearly care about what they're building. I've watched them listen, adjust, and improve without sacrificing the quality that made me a regular in the first place. I also really appreciate that they describe themselves as Mediterranean rather than trying to force the food and flavors into a narrower national label. That feels much more honest to a region where cultures, cuisines, people, and borders have overlapped and shifted for millennia. Really happy to have Byte here. They are building something distinctive, and I'm looking forward to watching them continue to grow, settle into their space, and expand what they're offering. read more

Great addition to the neighborhood. My iced latte was perfect. The pita bread was as good as any I've had - warm and chewy. I also enjoyed the hummus. The sabich (eggplant, veggie and hard boiled egg sandwich) was just too spicy for my personal taste, although the tehini dressing helped. The cauliflower was delicious, but sitting in oil. Come earlier in the day because it's quite busy at lunch and note it's closed on Wednesdays. The atmosphere is delightful, but a little noisy for a business meeting. Will I be back - of course! Hope they might add a few items, including a vegan dessert. read more

A true gem in STL! Byte STL has great (and healthy) food, a wonderful atmosphere, and consistently great service. The owners are absolutely wonderful and greet everyone who walks through the door with such genuine warmth and kindness that you immediately feel welcome. For anyone who loves Mediterranean food, this is one of the most authentic places you will find anywhere in the Midwest. This spot has very quickly become a favorite spot for me and my family. This was my first, and likely last time I will dine here. Nice atmosphere, and healthy food, a bit pricey. It was not clear until we asked, but you place your order at the counter, and at the time of placing your order, you are asked to give a tip. We waited about 30 minutes for food to be delivered to our table, and only 2 of 3 of us got our food. About 10 minutes later, we asked the very unfriendly young woman who brought the first 2 dishes to our table, where was the 3rd dish? She seemed annoyed, and did not have an answer. At that time we asked for more water. About 5 minutes later, 3rd dish arrives, still no water. Another request to the same young woman finally resulted in refills on water (no ice, and room temperature). Overall, we were disappointed in the very poor service. I wish them luck! First, the great news... The "chicken sandwiches" were fantastic. The hummus was great! Wish there were more than four pieces of bread though. Now... We were there at lunch... And the place was packed... It took about 20 minutes to get the "sandwiches." the hummus, came out in about five minutes. Great little patio. Great dine in place. The place looks fantastic! Because the food was great... I overlooked the service. Two "sandwiches" and one plate of hummus and two waters... $53. And yes, I did not tip. I don't tip if it's counter service. Would I go back? This is really good Mediterranean food. Or more specifically Israeli/Palestinian food. I just sampled the sabich sandwich, which was savory and delish. I can't wait to try the shakshuka. The menu is limited (it's apparently a small kitchen), but I plan on working my way through it. I've been there several times and have really enjoyed it. I debated whether to give it 4 or 5 stars, perhaps 41/2. It's really a lovely place, sunny and beautifully decorated. One criticism I guess is that the name of the restaurant is perfect because of the very tiny size of the pastries. They are good but really too small for the price. I've had the salad, shawarma, and shakshuka. I enjoyed all of the dishes but yes, kind of expensive. read more

As a first-generation Lebanese American, I am always searching for the flavors of my childhood. I lost my Teta in 2023, and I have missed her cooking every day since. The moment I walked into Byte, I felt an incredible energy. The black and gold aesthetic is breathtaking truly top-notch but the warmth of the staff is what makes it shine. Just like my Teta did! As a mother of 3, dining out can be stressful, but the owner and staff went above and beyond to help us. When the food arrived, the presentation was stunning honestly, I'd even call it 'sexy.' But the first bite? That's what did it. I told the owner right then it brought me straight back to my Teta's kitchen. My kids were obsessed, and my nephew was literally dancing with joy after every bite of their pastries. Even my vanilla latte was phenomenal. To top it off, my children ended the morning by hugging the owner's! Please, ignore the political noise in other reviews. These are good people who stand for love, and you can taste that love in every dish. This wasn't just breakfast; it was a trip back to memory lane. I will be back again and again!!! read more

Had brunch here last Friday with a girlfriend. She came early and when she sat at a table the owner asked how many is she expecting and asked her to move to a smaller table. Understandable, better account for the rush. We had to order at the counter but the table next to us ordered at the table. There was no water. Not a water station or someone filling the nonexistent cups. She had the labne zaatar and a pastry and I ordered the eggplant carpaccio and shakshuka. She loved how light and fresh her dish is. The shakshuka was bland, missing the deep toasted spices and heat from a traditional shakshuka. It had roasted cherry tomatoes and the sauce had slightly more cooked tomatoes. It kind of made me feel that they ran out of tomatoes and added more in the cooking process. The nicely shaped eggs were a positive. The eggplant carpaccio was devine but i wish it had some sort of vehicle to go with it so you don't feel like you are only eating deep fired eggplant tossed in vinegar and sprinkled with pistachio. I didn't have any pastries myself because they were just displayed on the counter where you order and pay and thought ewww germs. Love that they are representing middle eastern cuisine in a fun hip way but more fine tuning is needed in hospitality and depth of flavor. read more
