    BREAKFAST SENDVIC

Telva is truly one of the best places in St. Louis. Loryn, the owner, recently won a James Beard award so I knew I had to go. The decor is excellent. The service was amazing. All the servers were extremely patient, knowledgeable and accomodating. The food is spectacular. We ordered half of the menu and loved everything. I dream of the baklava parfait. One of my top recommendations in St. Louis.

Earlier this week I decided to grab some breakfast to go from Telva at the Ridge, which is Balkan inspired cafe. I placed my order online and it was hot and ready when I arrived. I love when I can track the status online. I ordered the breakfast sendvic and I added sudzuka (seasoned beef). You do have the option to add beef or turkey bacon. This sandwich comes with a herbed ajvar mayo. No clue what ajvar is but it really elevated the flavor. Make sure you check out this cute place in Webster Groves.

Delicious farm-to-table Baltic cuisine packed with flavor! I was blown away by the freshness of the ingredients. The hot toddy with apple brandy was a surprising and delightful treat! Kudos to the restaurant's management and team -- they run the place with Swiss precision. From the moment you order to when the food arrives and the table is cleared, everything is incredibly professional yet warm and welcoming. The ordering process is a bit different from what you might expect. Just follow what the locals do: place your order at the top of the line and then wait for your delicious dishes to arrive at the table when they're ready. Highly recommended!

Absolutely phenomenal. It's been a while since a restaurant has impressed me a bit and telva does it. No wonder they won James Beard: best chef Midwest. The food is complex and well structured and balanced. The presentation is clean yet casual. The environment is very spacious. I saw fresh market deliveries being brought in. It's the real deal without having to pay $$$$$$. Come casually as you are and experience a casual yet uplifted vibe

The ambiance of this place is the absolute cutest!! It's above a plant shop if you're interested in shopping before or after. Their food is to absolutely desire. I have never been disappointed when coming here. You order at the front counter and they bring your food to you so no direct service at the table. But everyone is very helpful if you have questions or need assistance.

We finally tried Telva at The Ridge. This spot is owned by the same folks who own Balkan Treat Box, so we hoped to have a similar or better experience than BTB (which we liked, but didn't love). Sadly, I'd say this restaurant is actually a star worse than BTB. Let's start with the positives: this place has a cool vibe. It's industrial with a bit of the warmth from the attached Rolling Ridge Nursery below. The downside of the industrial vibe is that the chairs are painful and there could be more seating. The food wasn't bad by any means, but it didn't knock our socks off. My Mom got the Breakfast Sendvic, which is essentially an Egg Sandwich on crispy bread with an herb aioli. She added Beef Bacon. I understand they don't serve pork here, but the Beef Bacon was not her favorite. I got the Breakfast Pide. I thought I ordered sausage on top, but instead received something similar to Pepperoni. Regardless, I enjoyed my meal. The service was definitely the weakest part of our experience. We did not encounter one "friendly" staff member. They all ranged from cordial to rude. That being said, I think we'd give Telva another chance a few months from now.

What a wonderful coffee experience! Stopped by early on a Saturday morning to try a latte. Beautiful decor and energy inside. Ordered the iced Kazandibi latte (espresso with creamy whole milk and a caramel/vanilla syrup). Delish! Very strong flavor, almost bitter but in a good espresso way. Definitely would come back to try some food!

I tried this spot for the first time on a random weekday afternoon. There were probably 3 parties in total, including mine, so it felt very quiet and empty since the dining room is so big! I could imagine how lively the place would be during the weekend. My friend and I each had a breakfast pide ($18) with meat added on ($3-5 depending on choice). The bread was pillowy and chewy with lots of charred spots, which I personally love but might not sit well with others. The dipping sauce that came with the pide was peppery and smoky, perfect for balancing out the saltiness of the meat.

Wow! This place is a gem! We were pretty intimidated by the long line, but it actually goes pretty quick and the food comes out just as quickly. Every bite was phenomenal. We had the Cilbir and Breakfrast Sendvic with sudzuka patty for savory items and they came out shortly after our pastries which came almost as quickly as we sat down. Both were savory delights. For pastries, we had the sour cherry scone and the tahini bun. Super well done on both counts. While smaller than anticipated, the sour cherry scone with thai basil was delicious and had a great textural variance. The outdoor patio is lush with greenery and was an easy choice on where to sit, but the inisde looked very fun as well.

    Baklava parfait

I've been here multiple times and I've never had anything that wasn't amazing! (The mustafa tost was good, didn't have the deeper flavors that I like, but still very good.) I didn't think that the orange cake would be nearly as good as it was, but WOW!! The cream topping was phenomenal and the cake itself was SO flavorful and moist. The orange flavor was more authentic and present than it's been in any other orange-flavored thing I've ever had. The kilbir is always savory and has a depth and warmth to it that pairs perfectly with the yoghurt. I wish there was more bread included because the pieces included don't seem to last for half of the dish. The latte was very nice! If you're a coffee lover, then you'll like it. The coffee flavor is very nice and isn't drowned out by the syrups. The baklava parfait is a MUST. With the honey drizzle and nuts and flower petals on the plate, you get nice variety and it looks gorgeous. The sweetness of the baklava filling paired with the sourness of their homemade yoghurt, it's a perfect pairing. The service was also very professional and helpful when an item was missing from our order.

Fun to go on a breakfast date with my wife. We tried a couple of different things and loved each bite. It's usually very busy, but they do a great job of seating everyone and food comes out quick. Worth a short wait to enjoy!

We had a great time visiting Telva at the Ridge for brunch. They have food and drink menus at the welcoming desk and you would order at the counter before finding seats. The foods were made quickly but were so delicious. I ordered Cilbur with sunny sided up eggs and the dish was so flavorful. I particularly enjoyed the toasted somun that came with the dish. Their iced chai tea latte was very refreshing with perfect sweetness. Definitely will be back again!

But why would you want to eat food from a coffee shop? I've been visiting coffee shops on the reg for the past several weeks, and I've repeatedly made the mistake of ordering breakfast sandwiches, burritos and what have you. I have no one to blame for this but myself. I knew going in that it wasn't a good idea. I just couldn't help myself. This must be how people end up on drugs. There was a race going on nearby, when I visited 23 West yesterday. I wasn't involved, though I was there in a running capacity. My running group just happened to be meeting there. We ran a few miles in the neighborhood before our visit. By the time we got there, there was quite a crowd. The contrast between the sweaty, disheveled runners and the sleek, modern decor was striking. This place has an interior like some showroom where you're pressured into taking out a high-interest loan to purchase jewelry of questionable provenance. Are they in cahoots with the bank next door? Both buildings, I notice, have a similar facade. 23 West is painted the same shade of gray as a post-McPlayPlace-era McDonald's, when they started trying to look like a Chipotle. Some girls on apps prefer it if you didn't take them to get coffee. It's not expensive enough. If you can get one to agree to such a date, you might consider bringing them here. It's classy. The coffee is good too. I went with the Raspberry Cheesecake Cold Brew, a seasonal item. It was magnificent. I ordered mine to-go, so I could enjoy it at the tables out front, and in case 12 showed up. They give it to you in a tall plastic cup with no lid, filled to the point where it's nearly impossible to carry without spilling, presumably so you can sample the delicious cheesecake-like froth and probably get a little bit of it in your mustache. You can't really sip it with a straw. The coffee itself is surprisingly robust, given the depth of the raspberry flavor. It's an odd idea for a drink, and not something I'd usually order, but the execution was on point. I also went with a Cherry Almond Scone. I had to eat something, for emotional reasons, and it looked interesting. I'm no expert on scones, but I enjoyed it. It may have been the most dense baked good I've ever eaten, to the point where it could probably be used as a weapon, in a pinch. I know it's supposed to be similar to a biscuit and that in England, where they're consumed on the reg, a biscuit is known as a cookie (why?). It's a lot dryer than even the biscuits at a Lee's Famous Recipe, but intentionally so, I guess because it's designed to be eaten with a beverage. A hot beverage is probably ideal, but I made it work with a cold brew. It's the kind of thing you don't realize until after the fact. Next time I'll know. If and when I do return, I'll be dressed as a magician, possibly with a young lady in tow.

It allows people to gather eat a sweet treat and have general conversation conversations where you can actually hear one another. They do have outside seating too. The chocolate cake was soft and as a non-cake lover I found this very delicious. Definitely worthy of sharing. I ordered a quiche to go. Pricing is really reasonable... which allows you to indulge in some additional baked goods or one of their fun merchandise items like homemade dog treats, t-shirts, mugs, etc. I also like that they have a small shelf of books, records, and games if you want a little BFF time - with your bestie or for just yourself! Today, I literally had to leave because when I walked in, there was no one behind the counter, I stood there for a few minutes until someone finally came out out of the back section, and then I assume, went behind the counter to tell the worker that I was waiting. When the worker came out, she had a bunch of cookies in her hands that she then had to proceed to fold and put into a bag and then she started making the coffee of two people that were sitting at the counter while I was still just standing there. She did acknowledge me, which I appreciate, but at that point, I have been standing there for at least five minutes and I still hadn't ordered my coffee. I told her that I had to leave because I had to get to work and went to Starbucks instead, which I really didn't want to do. But this has been a pattern with this place- either they're not hiring enough staff, the staff that they have is overwhelmed or something is going on. I've been coming here for almost a year- and I definitely would prefer to patronize a local Shop, but not if it's gonna take five minutes to even just get my order taken when I am literally the only person in line. Also, I wanna add, I literally used to come here three times a week. This is not a new experience, but this one has really taken it over the top. Like I said, I want to support a local coffee shop, and I want to like this place, but particularly in the morning when people are on their way to work, this type of delay is totally unacceptable. I'm not blaming the worker, I'm blaming whoever's doing the scheduling.

I'd attend such a meeting, but more so for the lulz (but also to share my beliefs). I'm pleased to report that there's none of that going on here, that I'm aware of. Granted, this was a Sunday morning. I was there with my running group as part of our ongoing unofficial breakfast burrito tour, the last such stop until this fall, due to upcoming marathon training. Of course it was the most unpleasant day of the year, maybe ever, with a heat index of 117 (no hyperbole). I changed shirts before I came in and then sweated through that shirt as well. One of the ladies I was with left a gross pool of sweat in her chair after she left. It didn't occur to me to pull a Charlamagne tha God until hours later. I'm growing as a human being. Part of that growth is gradually coming to realize that seasonal lattes, unless they have sort of especially distinct flavor, like banana, aren't going to taste like anything other generic artificial sweetener, let alone what they purport to be. I considered ordering an iced caramel latte, but I figured what the heck. I went with something called a Miso Brown Sugar Latte. It was good for what it was, but I don't know that anyone, if you gave it to them to try, could identify it as that. I liked the fact that it had a somewhat more pronounced coffee flavor, compared to some places where it mostly just tastes like a glass of milk. I wasn't as crazy about the fact that it took a while for the ice cubes to cool it down, probably longer than it would have taken if it were served in a glass cup. I went with something called the Annex Burrito, which I didn't realize until after I ordered it is not the only burrito they carry. I guess you can also get a bog-standard breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs and cheese. This one comes with corn, beans and some sort of unidentified crema for the same amount. Maybe they give you less bacon. Mine didn't have a lot of bacon, but the bacon it did have was not crisp and had a precooked vibe. The latter was more of an issue for me than the former. I'm a savage in that way. I did appreciate the fact that it was griddled, possibly using a panini press. The exterior was ever so slightly crisp, while the interior was pizza roll-level molten. The overall vibe was similar to those microwave burritos they used to carry at 7-11, but in a good way. All I needed was a mini truck enthusiast magazine filled with photos of bikini-clad Latinas and a Windex-blue Slurpee, but I was able to make do with a lukewarm mystery latte and the old ladies I run with. I'm resourceful.

A guy from my running group who lives nearby was running down the litany of businesses that have been in this space. Is this location cursed? Was a Native American killed there? This is no fault of Kentzo, but there was some confusion as to whether the breakfast bowl comes with eggs. I could have sworn that it doesn't and that the menu made this clear, but a few members of my group, who are girls with whom I'm not inclined to outwardly disagree, insisted that it does. It seems like it should anyway, right? What's a breakfast bowl without eggs? You could just as easily have such a bowl for lunch. That's unacceptable. This place had umpteen baristas, including one dressed like she was working for tips in a place frequented by bikers (she looked amazing), but they were barely keeping up with orders. This was fine with me. I didn't have anywhere to be, and my drink--an iced vanilla latte, natch--was good when it finally came out. But this is not the kind of place to stop and grab a quick drink on your way to work. There was only one guy making food, as far as I can tell, and he was on it. He made my Breakfast Bowl w/ Bacon and brought it out before I got my drink. He warned me that the bowl was hot, but he was holding it with his bare hand. He must think that I'm actually *from* Maplewood. I had to have the girl who handed me my drink fetch my cinnamon roll. Were they supposed to hand it to me when I ordered? Were they hoping I'd just forget? The cinnamon roll was cold, like maybe it sat in a refrigerator overnight. It occurred to me that it almost certainly wasn't made that day, but it didn't seem particularly stale or prepackaged. It cost more than I paid for most meals in the pre-Brandon era, and it occurred to me that they could just give you a bit less, not charge as much, and I'd be fine with that. Did I devour the whole thing in a few bites anyway, like I just got out of jail? Yes. Yes, I did.

The vibe is great for any occasion and the long hours of operation are helpful for those who have breaks during any time of day. Their drinks are well worth the price and delicious. The staff is always so kind and accommodating. I also love that they wear flag pins! 10/10.

It's a calming environment; can tell that care was put into the design. With both inside and outside seating options, it has what you need. It's located on a busy street in Clayton, so people watching is available. Being used to ordering at Starbucks, I was uncertain how to approach this, so I told the employee I was trying to adjust and he was so kind and helpful. I went with a Hot Macchiato with Caramel and Mocha, 2% Milk and a small Chicken Empanada. They were a bit backed up, so the wait was a little longer than I expected, but the drink was very good. I didn't even have to specify how many pumps of what to put in there, they just did it and it was perfect. The right temperature, I didn't have to wait to drink it. The empanada was piping hot, so I had to let it cool and unfortunately couldn't try it before my appt. Next time tho.

We came in on a Friday evening, a little before 8, and decided to sit at the bar. We didn't get home until 10:30. And we live 10 minutes away. Two and a half hours. The bartender was great, very sweet, and was super apologetic. She made us fantastic drinks all night. And I will say, the food was incredible. But it took almost an hour to get just our salads out. And then another hour to get our main. A gentleman behind us came in at 9PM and was gone by 10PM. I'm not sure if our ticket got lost or what, but it was a very odd experience for us. We shared a few things and I will say, they split the plates for us and it was awesome. I was a big fan of the food in general. But my complaint the first time here was timing of service, and looks like it's a continuous issue for them. It's a bummer because I would love to come back, and maybe if we're not starving and in the mood for a long drawn out meal, we'll come back, but definitely not going to be a regular spot for us.
