We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning, planned it to arrive when they opened at 9:00 as did other folks. The place filled up fast! We walked in and were greeted and seated right away. The space is open with high ceilings and tall windows. Lots of art on the walls, available for purchase. Service consisted of a few different servers; all were efficient and friendly. We took a bit to figure out what we were ordering but our server was ready when we were. I was leaning towards the Chakchouka but at the last moment decided on El Cerdo - Carnita potato, spinach, corn, jalapeno, and 2 poached eggs covered in tomato-chipotle salsa. Coffee was hot and fresh and kept refilled. When my dish came out, it was so delicious looking! Turns out it tasted so as well! The eggs were cooked perfectly and the combination of all the ingredients mixed well together. I loved the hint of jalapeno throughout. It will be hard not to order this again. I came here for brunch with my Dad, bonus mom and sister because I saw they had a frozen espresso martini, and I have to try it. They had a small weight but nothing too long maybe five minutes and then we were seated. This place is small, but cute and the service was great. Egg is the perfect name for this Benton Park spot. Eggs as a food staple seem simple and straightforward, but they're almost magical in all of the ways they can be used. From the outside, Egg the restaurant looks unassuming, but the moment you open the door and see the lovely and interesting decor and smell the aromas from the kitchen, you know it is something special as well. The owner is very welcoming, as if he is inviting you to his home, which is lovely. We ordered the Chakchouka with merguez and the ojja with shrimp. Both were completely delicious. I added a turmeric latte, which was unique and so warming. I got brunch at this place recently with a friend on a Sunday morning around 10. She had the mahi-mahi Benedict and I had the cornbread pork belly Benedict. Neither one disappointed. I'm not a big fan of breakfast potatoes but I do love theirs for some reason. Our server was also the bartender and while he wasn't super friendly, he was attentive and took care of everything we needed. The only minus to this place is they don't have a solid host game. When you walk in, no one tends to pay attention or come over to seat you. I walked and waited for a few minutes, then walked up to the bar and asked if bar was open seat seating and he said no sorry though please wait to be seated sign isn't up. He seemed slightly annoyed that I even asked, but I had been standing there for a few minutes and I know he saw me. He immediately said to me at a table, but the people behind me were all still just standing there and he did not even address them. I get it. Food was a boiled mess. The veggie skillet was a compost soup of the leftover veggies. You think veggie skillet and you expect onion, mushroom, spinach, etc. Unfortunately, none of those were present and instead I got beets, broccoli, cabbage, zucchini, and whatever else was sitting around. The bottom of the dish was a pool of water so everything ended up tasting like beets. The eggs and hollandaise would have been good if it didn't mix into the warm water underneath. Even after adding loads of salt and hot sauce it still wasn't salvageable. That's just my dish, my partner ordered the special of a medium strip steak and eggs and wasn't much better off. The owner(?) made a point to mention that it was underpriced at $27, but when the gray, overcooked, steamed hunk came out... we'd pay $27 to not eat it again. The bartender was working her butt off and there are other dishes that maybe seem like they're worth getting, but after our experience we wouldn't give it another chance. 7/26 was our last time in after supporting them weekly and hoping they are successful. We have enjoyed the food but it's going down. Showed up at noon. Barely anyone there. Stood at the front for at least 10min before we saw anyone. Finally the dude shows up and throws to menus on a table. I timed it, 15 min and no one came back. So we got up and left. Almost 30min in the restaurant and no one came to take a drink order or even acknowledge we were there. Same for the table of 4 next to us. Not sure but I heard them talking about leaving as well. The service was excellent, I was immediately greeted and told I could sit anywhere. A gentleman came right over and told me the specials. My food and cappuccino were served promptly. It was a quiet atmosphere and I was able to enjoy my breakfast with my earbuds in. The only small critique I could have is that the omelette (shrimp omelette which was a special) was a little too heavy on the spice and too light on the cheese. Had the pleasure of stopping into @eggstl for brunch yesterday, and we tried to get the whole spread. The true highlights of the meal were the Latte Orzatas and the special of Barbacoa and Grits. I had never tried their Latte Orzata, but I know I'll never skip ordering it again. The sweetness mixed with the espresso was just incredible. The Barbacoa and Grits (on the bottom) was incredibly flavorful. The barbacoa is hiding underneath the perfectly runny eggs. The salsa and pico on top added a nice bite of acidity on top of the barbacoa. The grits were truly the star of the show. It was so much flavor packed on the bottom of the plate. All were excellent - with the Cafe Mocha being a real coffee standout and one of the best we had. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had in St. Louis. It was very small dining room when you first walked in, but there was extra seating wrapped around the corner. We sat closer towards the front as we were the first people to arrive for breakfast. We were promptly greeted by a nice my who broke down the menu to us effortlessly and thoroughly. After ordering our food, it took a little little to the time for our drinks to come as we're sitting, and our drinks were pretty strong. We noticed the stuff that were coming around to other tables that people had ordered. The star of the show definitely would've been the coffee. Even though I'm not a coffee drinker the aroma that it was giving off was very good.
