Food is very good. I had the chorizo hash and loved it. However, service was subpar and the space is too small for the amount of tables. Not sure if I just went on an off day.
Attentive service. Even with a packed house. Great quaint local, breakfast diner. He tried the lox avocado, toast, fried rice, and breakfast tacos. Can't wait to return to try more!
This year, when thinking about where I wanted to go to celebrate my birthday, it was a really quick decision for me to make. I knew Half & Half was the only place on my mind! For some reason, the waitlist online was not available so we could not get on the list ahead of time so I am not sure if they took that down or if they just turned it off or what. But that didn't bother me because I was willing to wait if needed. Where Half & Half is located is on a really busy street in Clayton and you really only have the option to find a street parking spot. Maybe you get lucky and find one out front? Or maybe you are like me and need to park 4-5 blocks away and take a little walk. Either way, you can find parking if you are willing to walk a bit. Upon arriving, there were already a ton of people waiting to be seated so I already knew it would be a wait. I talked with the hostess and added my name (party of 2) to the list and was told it would be about 30-45 minutes wait. The restaurant is not very large, so on a cold day, I did not want to wait outside. Instead, I was able to find a little spot in the corner near the bar and just tried to take up as little space as possible while waiting. Eventually, I received the text that our table was ready and so we made our way to the hostess stand (had to make out way through crowds of people who were also waiting) and then the hostess walked us over to our booth for two. It was just perfect for us. Tim, our server came over right away to greet us and offered us coffee or other drinks. Once we ordered, he gave us some time to review the menu and went on his way to grab our drinks. When he came back, we were ready to order, and, of course, I think I had a difficult order, but Tim made it possible and wasn't even bothered by request. I really just wanted a smaller portion of the Clara cake (to share) and then I asked for a scrambled egg and some turkey bacon. I thought this would be a complicated order, but he made it work and I am so grateful for that. My hubby ordered one of the hash bowls with steak. While waiting for our food, we enjoyed coffee and Tim made sure our cups were filled. He even brought over some bailey's for the coffee for my hubby to add since I ordered a mimosa as my cocktail of choice. When the food came out, it was all so fresh and delicious. I legit love the Clara cake so much and it really made my birthday super special! The eggs were super fluffy and the turkey sausage was also good. Since I did not finish my meal, Tim offered to bring over a box and a bag and then he made sure we were all set before he gave us the bill. Since the restaurant was still super busy, we did not hang out for much longer after paying. Instead, we paid, packed up and were out the door. Honestly, the food is always my favorite here. But this visit was even extra awesome since Tim took such good care of us. Servers are busy and I appreciated how he took good care of us. Thanks to Half & Half for the delicious meal and thanks to Tim for the service! I'll be back.
Came here on a weekend for brunch. It gets very busy, especially on Saturday morning so be prepared to join the waitlist ahead of time. They have street parking outside in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is a little bit on the smaller side so with it getting so packed it can be a little tight if you have a larger group. But it is a nice and cute café vibe. The wait staff was friendly and efficient with service. The portion sizes were good and there are a fair amount of options for non-meat eaters. I definitely had plenty to take home with me. Their pancakes are huge and have a really great flavor!

I came here for brunch with a friend as she suggested this place. She made a reservation and by the time we got there, we were still 8th on the list with plenty of open tables. We checked in and were seated out on the patio. After sitting, we were quickly given water and asked what we'd like to drink. I was craving a mimosa but they only have the regular and grapefruit flavors available, so I went with the classic. Food wise, we both chose the avocado toast but had our eggs prepared differently. A few minutes later we got our mimosas. I enjoyed the heavy pour! Shortly after, our food arrived and this is where things took a turn. When we got our plates, we noticed the two pieces of avocado toast with eggs on top but that's it. We were taken aback that this didn't look like the pictures we had seen and that the dish seemed so plain. Upon moving my egg to the side, the bread was indeed plain. There was no seasoning, not even the everything seasoning that usually goes on top, no balsamic drizzle, nada. It was super disappointing. We finished and then asked for the check. The food was pretty good but overall, I was underwhelmed. It didn't "wow" me like I had hoped it would.

Our server came over quickly, and the food was out super quickly too. The seasonal lattes were sweet but tasty. I thought the breakfast fried rice was the unexpected winner of the meal - a lot more flavor than expected and I was skeptical about the pineapple but it worked! The pinto beans in the omelette also worked better than expected. Portions were big so got to take leftovers. Not sure what more there is to ask for!

The only problem I'd have is I would probably want to order the same thing even though they had a lot of other items that looked appealing. Exception being, I would skip the house coffee and try a specialty. It may be obvious for locals, but only paid street meter parking options.
I live in Soulard but was in Clayton every morning a couple weeks back and ended up eating here 3 times because I really liked the food and service. I initially visited this place because it's a rare downtown restaurant with great street parking so I always knew I could find a spot (huge plus!). My first visit I tried the blackberry cheesecake stuffed French toast but It didn't seem like it was truly stuffed with any cheesecake. It had some on top though and the flavor was still great, just a bit dry. I should've gotten a bit of syrup on the side. I washed it down with an iced French toast latte that was crazy good so I ordered one to go. Finally my server was Molli and she was just perfect. Sweet, talkative, and attentive -- oh and to top it off she saved my butt after I left my credit card there. I hope she sees this because I appreciate her! The next two times I visited that week I was craving oatmeal and they delivered in an elevated fashion. Their banana walnut oatmeal is decadent. I love boring oatmeal at home but it doesn't have to be boring. Half & Half elevates this humble dish into an incredibly tasty experience. I can't get oatmeal at other places now! I washed it down with some OJ that was just alright. It doesn't taste like it's freshly squeezed in house like other breakfast spots in Clayton but it's hardly a complaint. I will visit this warm and cozy spot many times over.
I've been wanting to try this place for quite sometime. I finally got a chance to come in on Tuesday. Apparently, them being open on this day is new. I walked in and the hostess was nice and seated me immediately. Despite my party running a little late he still was attentive in making sure I was okay with water and he went over some menu options that were good. I ended up settling on the breakfast tacos with potatoes on the side. It was delicious and a nice portion of you aren't looking to eat a big breakfast but still want the full feeling. It's a small place and now I understand why it's so packed on weekends. I would suggest going during the week if you can. They got so busy it took a minute for us to get the check. I normally love the occasional visit to half and half's Saturday brunch, but I must have caught them on an off day. I had to ask multiple staffers who our server was before someone filled our waters which is odd because it is a very small space. Also once identified the server could not tell us what was allergy friendly and misspoke about an item that is routinely made with nuts. The server really makes the experience, so I hope they do some more pre-shift checks with servers before busy days. I love the restaurant and variety of drink options and food. I will be back one day. Accessibility note, there are handicap parking spaces along the main road but the curb is separate for bike lanes and the curb cuts are varied along the street. The restrooms are single person and are down a small hallway shared with staff so waiting in line may cause congestion for wheelchair users. read more
We stopped by for brunch on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised by the wait. Despite the wait, we decided to stay because we knew it would be worth it. They seated us at a long table with people at the other end, but we still had ample space. To started our meal, we ordered a hot chocolate and coffee, along with some of the delicious doughnuts. Those doughnuts were scrumptious, and I even made sure to save one chocolate for after my breakfast. For my main course, I opted for the BBLT, which was an enormous sandwich filled with all the classic ingredients: bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, over-easy egg, and aioli. It was served on a wheat bun with breakfast potatoes, making it a hearty and satisfying meal to kickstart my day. We also shared a giant blueberry pancake, which was a complete meal in itself. I'm still reminiscing about that delicious pancake along with everything else and can't wait to return to this place for another delightful brunch experience! read more

Such a cute spot! Decent amount of seating and great menu. Lots of coffee drink options. We had the Clara cakes (enormous portion), ham and gruyere omelet, and sausage biscuit. The portions were large and the prices are fair. The inside is so cozy and cute. Great breakfast spot! read more

Porch Pals and Pricey Pancakes - But Worth It! Carson and I kicked off our "Best Places to Go With Your Dog" series this morning at Half & Half in Clayton, MO--and WOW, did it deliver! This adorable little porch, friendly faces (shoutout to our sweet server Olivia ), and a giant cup of baked oatmeal goodness made it the perfect Saturday treat. Carson soaked up every second--tail wagging, people-watching, and maybe accidentally taste-testing a bite of toast. read more
Phenomenal potatoes, probably the best breakfast potatoes I've had so far. The food and coffee was also best good. There were many vegetarian options, we ordered the breakfast tacos and roasted tomato sandwich. They also had fresh pumpkins so we got pumpkin lattes. 100% recommend for a great breakfast. read more
Picked up some half and half for the first time and I must say, it was a pretty solid spot. Tried and true, Half and Half serves up some satisfying breakfast bites. I went with a sausage biscuit as I am on a biscuit kick. The biscuit was solid. Super buttery, flaky, and moist. It is very crumbly, but no biggie, breakfast is supposed to be messy. The breakfast sausage is solid as well. Good little spice and they serve up 2 links on the biscuit. The aioli offers a great tang to counter the flavor of the sausage. The best part? I have to say was the breakfast potatoes. They taste and look as fresh and homecooked as you can get. Perfectly salted. They are big chunks of potato so the exterior is crispy, but the inside is still soft. The perfect balance. I ordered takeout and it was ready when I got there. All of the workers greeted me with a smile. The interior is quaint just as a breakfast spot should be. They have a really nice little patio on the street that I'd love to sit at sometime. read more

I love the patio seating option but it was full today and I didn't feel like waiting. I got the blackberry cheesecake French toast and it was gigantic. Enough for two people to split. Service was fast and the bartender was friendly and tentative. I'll be back to try the breakfast fried rice, biscuits and gravy and other fares and update the review. I only give 4 stars on first reviews because everyplace needs two opinions. read more

Great place! What I got the avocado toast, blueberry pancakes and a latte. The avocado toast was decent. No complains. Yes it is a little plain but if avoiding dairy and eggs this is it. Blueberry pancakes were okay for me - a bit eggy. The latte was great! They had non-dairy alternatives Environment Really nice seating outside. Love a place where multiple members of the staff greet you as soon as you walk in. The vibe was very friendly, and the menu was simple with a couple spins on breakfast. The waitress suggested the cinnamon vanilla honey latte and it was very good. I also got the roasted tomato egg sandwich, which was a perfectly not-complicated but very good sandwich. This restaurant has been featured in travel and leisure as one of the best breakfast spot in the US. We went there for breakfast on a Saturday after reading about it. Before I start, the wait time as per yelp is around 70 minutes which made to think should I go ? I called the restaurant and I've been told most people tend to get on the waitlist even before they arrive and chances are better to get a table earlier and the person was kind enough to get me on the waiting list. In the end, it took me roughly 35 minutes to get a table vs what yelp said. So don't decide based on waitlist. I'm glad I called the restaurant. We ordered stake and eggs, cappuccino, hot chocolate and kids menu egg, bacon and toast. Stake and eggs : comes with stage , eggs, grilled Brussels sprouts , biscuit , butter and strawberry jam. Stake is juicy and perfectly cooked. I fell in love with the biscuit. One of the best I ever had in my life so that I got some to gos. Very rich and buttery. Kids plate: No complaint from my kid. He likes everything. I like the ambience. Nothing fancy. Simple and elegant. Tip: 1. Free parking is available on roadside or paid parking in garage across the street. 2. We went here for breakfast this past Saturday. The wait was about twenty minutes. This place is smaller than I thought. This place gets quite busy in the weekend. I sat at the table toward the door where some people stand to wait, so there were lots of people going back and forth near my seat. This restaurant was busy but the wait was not too bad. Service was great. The ambiance was nice as well but the food was a hit. We enjoyed everything we ordered. We ordered a combo breakfast and tried the french toast and pancake. To have French toast or pancake, it's ala cart. $45 for two people but was definitely worth it. I would return again. The portions are enough to share so we took a to go box. Also have to pay to park, only street parking which is the standard in Clayton. read more

I am not sure when street parking on weekends in Clayton became free, but I was very excited to know that. I met up with a friend for brunch and we sat on the patio which at first had the perfect balance of breeze and sunshine. The patio seemed kind of small but had maybe 7-8 tables, 2-4 guests each. Our waitress was very attentive and on top of things. I arrived a few minutes later than my friend and was able to still get my coffee order in and it was out to me very quickly so my friend and I pretty much finished our coffee at the same time. I started with the French Toast Latte with a oat milk substitute. It was delightful and yes, I got it hot and not iced on a summer day. I am not going to lie, I saw pics of the breakfast potatoes online and thought they looked dry and overcooked so I ordered fries with my Cali Omelet and my friend ordered breakfast tacos and breakfast potatoes. I did try one of theirs and it was slightly crunchy on the outside and very soft on the inside so I stand corrected and looks can be deceiving in online photos. We also tried a plain pancake which was slightly crispy on the edges and fluffy on the inside. We were given water regularly which is always a win in my book. Overall I would definitely make a return trip and dine on the patio if it's 80 degrees or less. read more
