I live in Soulard but was in Clayton every morning a couple weeks back and ended up eating here 3 times because I really liked the food and service. I initially visited this place because it's a rare downtown restaurant with great street parking so I always knew I could find a spot (huge plus!). My first visit I tried the blackberry cheesecake stuffed French toast but It didn't seem like it was truly stuffed with any cheesecake. It had some on top though and the flavor was still great, just a bit dry. I should've gotten a bit of syrup on the side. I washed it down with an iced French toast latte that was crazy good so I ordered one to go. Finally my server was Molli and she was just perfect. Sweet, talkative, and attentive -- oh and to top it off she saved my butt after I left my credit card there. I hope she sees this because I appreciate her! The next two times I visited that week I was craving oatmeal and they delivered in an elevated fashion. Their banana walnut oatmeal is decadent. I love boring oatmeal at home but it doesn't have to be boring. Half & Half elevates this humble dish into an incredibly tasty experience. I can't get oatmeal at other places now! I washed it down with some OJ that was just alright. It doesn't taste like it's freshly squeezed in house like other breakfast spots in Clayton but it's hardly a complaint. This year, when thinking about where I wanted to go to celebrate my birthday, it was a really quick decision for me to make. I knew Half & Half was the only place on my mind! For some reason, the waitlist online was not available so we could not get on the list ahead of time so I am not sure if they took that down or if they just turned it off or what. But that didn't bother me because I was willing to wait if needed. Where Half & Half is located is on a really busy street in Clayton and you really only have the option to find a street parking spot. Maybe you get lucky and find one out front? Or maybe you are like me and need to park 4-5 blocks away and take a little walk. Either way, you can find parking if you are willing to walk a bit. Upon arriving, there were already a ton of people waiting to be seated so I already knew it would be a wait. I talked with the hostess and added my name (party of 2) to the list and was told it would be about 30-45 minutes wait. The restaurant is not very large, so on a cold day, I did not want to wait outside. Instead, I was able to find a little spot in the corner near the bar and just tried to take up as little space as possible while waiting. Eventually, I received the text that our table was ready and so we made our way to the hostess stand (had to make out way through crowds of people who were also waiting) and then the hostess walked us over to our booth for two. It was just perfect for us. Tim, our server came over right away to greet us and offered us coffee or other drinks. Once we ordered, he gave us some time to review the menu and went on his way to grab our drinks. When he came back, we were ready to order, and, of course, I think I had a difficult order, but Tim made it possible and wasn't even bothered by request. I really just wanted a smaller portion of the Clara cake (to share) and then I asked for a scrambled egg and some turkey bacon. I thought this would be a complicated order, but he made it work and I am so grateful for that. My hubby ordered one of the hash bowls with steak. While waiting for our food, we enjoyed coffee and Tim made sure our cups were filled. He even brought over some bailey's for the coffee for my hubby to add since I ordered a mimosa as my cocktail of choice. When the food came out, it was all so fresh and delicious. I legit love the Clara cake so much and it really made my birthday super special! The eggs were super fluffy and the turkey sausage was also good. Since I did not finish my meal, Tim offered to bring over a box and a bag and then he made sure we were all set before he gave us the bill. Since the restaurant was still super busy, we did not hang out for much longer after paying. Instead, we paid, packed up and were out the door. Honestly, the food is always my favorite here. But this visit was even extra awesome since Tim took such good care of us. Servers are busy and I appreciated how he took good care of us. Came here on a weekend for brunch. It gets very busy, especially on Saturday morning so be prepared to join the waitlist ahead of time. They have street parking outside in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is a little bit on the smaller side so with it getting so packed it can be a little tight if you have a larger group. But it is a nice and cute café vibe. The wait staff was friendly and efficient with service. The portion sizes were good and there are a fair amount of options for non-meat eaters. I definitely had plenty to take home with me. I came here for brunch with a friend as she suggested this place. She made a reservation and by the time we got there, we were still 8th on the list with plenty of open tables. We checked in and were seated out on the patio. After sitting, we were quickly given water and asked what we'd like to drink. I was craving a mimosa but they only have the regular and grapefruit flavors available, so I went with the classic. Food wise, we both chose the avocado toast but had our eggs prepared differently. A few minutes later we got our mimosas. I enjoyed the heavy pour! Shortly after, our food arrived and this is where things took a turn. When we got our plates, we noticed the two pieces of avocado toast with eggs on top but that's it. We were taken aback that this didn't look like the pictures we had seen and that the dish seemed so plain. Upon moving my egg to the side, the bread was indeed plain. I really appreciate the variety here. I debated between 4 to 5, because I haven't tried many of the coffee options. Since I've only been once, but would return I would say it's worth a visit. So the pancakes, you can order a stack or singular. I was very grateful because I wanted to try it, but with my avocado toast. Not all places have the egg with the avocado and I loved that they offered this. My friend had some type of scramble. They had a miscommunication on chopping her sausage in it, but small hiccup. The only problem I'd have is I would probably want to order the same thing even though they had a lot of other items that looked appealing. I have to say was the breakfast potatoes. They taste and look as fresh and homecooked as you can get. Perfectly salted. I am not sure when street parking on weekends in Clayton became free, but I was very excited to know that. I met up with a friend for brunch and we sat on the patio which at first had the perfect balance of breeze and sunshine. The patio seemed kind of small but had maybe 7-8 tables, 2-4 guests each. Our waitress was very attentive and on top of things. I arrived a few minutes later than my friend and was able to still get my coffee order in and it was out to me very quickly so my friend and I pretty much finished our coffee at the same time. I started with the French Toast Latte with a oat milk substitute. It was delightful and yes, I got it hot and not iced on a summer day. I am not going to lie, I saw pics of the breakfast potatoes online and thought they looked dry and overcooked so I ordered fries with my Cali Omelet and my friend ordered breakfast tacos and breakfast potatoes. I did try one of theirs and it was slightly crunchy on the outside and very soft on the inside so I stand corrected and looks can be deceiving in online photos. We also tried a plain pancake which was slightly crispy on the edges and fluffy on the inside. We were given water regularly which is always a win in my book. First, I HIGHLY recommend the yelp waitlist and after around 9:30 am on the weekend you're looking at roughly 60 to 120 minutes of wait time so plan accordingly. We get the Blt omelette almost every single visit and rotate between crispy potatoes, arugula salad, or Brussels sprouts as the desired side. The atmosphere is quaint farm forward with a bright lively vibe. I recommend the raspberry preserve with the sourdough and the bread choice and the cappuccinos are absolutely delightful. Before I start, the wait time as per yelp is around 70 minutes which made to think should I go ? I called the restaurant and I've been told most people tend to get on the waitlist even before they arrive and chances are better to get a table earlier and the person was kind enough to get me on the waiting list. In the end, it took me roughly 35 minutes to get a table vs what yelp said. So don't decide based on waitlist. I'm glad I called the restaurant. Great experience yesterday at Half & Half. I went to Half & Half around 1 pm and we were seated right away. Yelp has a waitlist feature that tells you how long the wait is and allows you to add your name to the waitlist as well. The waitlist stated that the wait was under 5 minutes. It was fantastic how quickly we were helped. My cousin actually works here when she is town but wasn't with me this time. She has a go-to which is the Breakfast Fried Rice and subs out the sausage for chorizo and it was AMAZING! It has scrambled eggs, sausage (chorizo for me), jalapeño, onion, cilantro and pineapple. I wish there was more pineapple in it because it made the entire dish. I saw online that someone got the blueberry pancakes and they looked amazing as well. I don't live in St Louis but next time I'm here I want to come back and try more dishes! They all looked yummy. read more

My husband enjoyed his Eggs Benedict with chorizo and avocado. I ordered the breakfast biscuit sandwich (and hold the aioli). Food took awhile, 20 minutes for coffees, food in 30. My sandwich had the aioli but the waitress realized it and immediately brought a new huge biscuit which turned out to be the star. It was piping hot, quite crispy on the outside and so yummy and buttery. The donuts and mimosas looked amazing. The main dining room is noisy but can't help that with those mimosas flowing!
