Short wait list this Sunday! Service was fair, pretty busy, we sat inside, but outside was also an option! Lively atmosphere, great for groups and also fine for solo dining. Food is always great, my spouse always orders the blackberry French toast for the table along with the meal. I also had the cold brew in addition to the Cali Omlette!! Yum

Half & Half - a true St. Louis brunch gem! Half & Half in Clayton has that perfect local charm that makes it feel both laid-back and special every time you go. The atmosphere is cozy yet lively -- full of the smell of freshly brewed coffee and buttery goodness coming out of the kitchen. The servers accommodate and make sure your brunch always hits the spot! Their specialty coffees are next level -- the mocha gets me every single time. It's rich, perfectly balanced, and the kind of drink that makes you pause for a second before that first sip. And when it comes to the food, you literally can't go wrong. Everything on the menu is a winner -- from the Clara Cakes (sweet, fluffy, and indulgent) to the breakfast fried rice, French toast, omelettes, and skillets loaded with creamy sauces and golden potatoes. The savory dishes are goddess-level savory -- think buttery biscuits, creamy sauces, and flavors that make every bite feel like brunch heaven. Whether you're catching up with friends, grabbing coffee solo, or starting a weekend with a bang, Half & Half is one of those brunch spots that just gets it right every time.

Avocado toast and eggs with missing seasoning

I came here for brunch with a friend as she suggested this place. She made a reservation and by the time we got there, we were still 8th on the list with plenty of open tables. We checked in and were seated out on the patio. After sitting, we were quickly given water and asked what we'd like to drink. I was craving a mimosa but they only have the regular and grapefruit flavors available, so I went with the classic. Food wise, we both chose the avocado toast but had our eggs prepared differently. A few minutes later we got our mimosas. I enjoyed the heavy pour! Shortly after, our food arrived and this is where things took a turn. When we got our plates, we noticed the two pieces of avocado toast with eggs on top but that's it. We were taken aback that this didn't look like the pictures we had seen and that the dish seemed so plain. Upon moving my egg to the side, the bread was indeed plain. There was no seasoning, not even the everything seasoning that usually goes on top, no balsamic drizzle, nada. It was super disappointing. We finished and then asked for the check. The food was pretty good but overall, I was underwhelmed. It didn't "wow" me like I had hoped it would.

I really appreciate the variety here. I debated between 4 to 5, because I haven't tried many of the coffee options. Since I've only been once, but would return I would say it's worth a visit. So the pancakes, you can order a stack or singular. I was very grateful because I wanted to try it, but with my avocado toast. Not all places have the egg with the avocado and I loved that they offered this. My friend had some type of scramble. They had a miscommunication on chopping her sausage in it, but small hiccup. The only problem I'd have is I would probably want to order the same thing even though they had a lot of other items that looked appealing. Exception being, I would skip the house coffee and try a specialty. It may be obvious for locals, but only paid street meter parking options.

I've been wanting to try this place for quite sometime. I finally got a chance to come in on Tuesday. Apparently, them being open on this day is new. I walked in and the hostess was nice and seated me immediately. Despite my party running a little late he still was attentive in making sure I was okay with water and he went over some menu options that were good. I ended up settling on the breakfast tacos with potatoes on the side. It was delicious and a nice portion of you aren't looking to eat a big breakfast but still want the full feeling. It's a small place and now I understand why it's so packed on weekends. I would suggest going during the week if you can. They got so busy it took a minute for us to get the check. I will definitely come back and try more menu items. As always until next time...

Such a cute spot! Decent amount of seating and great menu. Lots of coffee drink options. We had the Clara cakes (enormous portion), ham and gruyere omelet, and sausage biscuit. The portions were large and the prices are fair. The inside is so cozy and cute. Great breakfast spot!

Highly recommend the eggs Benedict! They are so tasty. Also love their outdoor patio area. Service staff is friendly. Wait time can get long on weekends so join their waitlist online.

Porch Pals and Pricey Pancakes - But Worth It! Carson and I kicked off our "Best Places to Go With Your Dog" series this morning at Half & Half in Clayton, MO--and WOW, did it deliver! This adorable little porch, friendly faces (shoutout to our sweet server Olivia ), and a giant cup of baked oatmeal goodness made it the perfect Saturday treat. Carson soaked up every second--tail wagging, people-watching, and maybe accidentally taste-testing a bite of toast.

Half & Half in Clayton is the kind of breakfast spot that's always buzzing with energy, and for good reason. I decided to try their salmon hash, and let me tell you, it was a total treat. Salmon can sometimes feel a bit heavy and too overpowering for breakfast, but not here--it was perfectly balanced. #stlouispescatarisnapproved The hash came swimming in this amazing sauce (seriously, I could have eaten it with a spoon) and was loaded with spinach and potatoes. Every bite was just so lovely. If you're looking for a casual spot with great vibes and even better food, this is it.

Pumpkin Latte

Phenomenal potatoes, probably the best breakfast potatoes I've had so far. The food and coffee was also best good. There were many vegetarian options, we ordered the breakfast tacos and roasted tomato sandwich. They also had fresh pumpkins so we got pumpkin lattes. 100% recommend for a great breakfast.

Sausage biscuit and potatoes
Austin S.

Picked up some half and half for the first time and I must say, it was a pretty solid spot. Tried and true, Half and Half serves up some satisfying breakfast bites. I went with a sausage biscuit as I am on a biscuit kick. The biscuit was solid. Super buttery, flaky, and moist. It is very crumbly, but no biggie, breakfast is supposed to be messy. The breakfast sausage is solid as well. Good little spice and they serve up 2 links on the biscuit. The aioli offers a great tang to counter the flavor of the sausage. The best part? I have to say was the breakfast potatoes. They taste and look as fresh and homecooked as you can get. Perfectly salted. They are big chunks of potato so the exterior is crispy, but the inside is still soft. The perfect balance. I ordered takeout and it was ready when I got there. All of the workers greeted me with a smile. The interior is quaint just as a breakfast spot should be. They have a really nice little patio on the street that I'd love to sit at sometime.

Cinnamon vanilla honey latte (I didn't get a pic of the design on top but it was cute! And look at all that flavor!)

Love a place where multiple members of the staff greet you as soon as you walk in. The vibe was very friendly, and the menu was simple with a couple spins on breakfast. The waitress suggested the cinnamon vanilla honey latte and it was very good. I also got the roasted tomato egg sandwich, which was a perfectly not-complicated but very good sandwich. Will be coming back!

Today, I was blessed to find my favorite spot at the bar open. This is a great vantage point to witness how a well run restaurant functions. The bar space is quite tight, but the servers and baristas (notably, the always excellent Lynne) move elegantly between each other as if in a choreographed dance. The Lindbergh Tartine was on point today with delicious sausage gravy over house-made sourdough, two sunny side up eggs and the always fantastic crispy potatoes. Soooo gooood! The pleasing decor, cute bistro-style tables and live plants makes this spot feel so warm. After coming here multiple times, I sometimes look for small improvements that I might suggest, but I'm consistently unsuccessful! With that said, I do think it's time to put some purse hooks up under the bar seating....still getting a solid 5-Star review! Come to Ivy Cafe and see for yourself!

Some place where I could print off copies of my zine about protecting the environment by committing minor acts of terrorism in America's forests? Turns out, it's a place where you can listen to truly random vinyl records while eating burritos entirely too good to be available in Clayton. Nothing about the latter says this part of town except for the price, which is almost like someone's cruel idea of a joke. I'd suggest that they're the best breakfast burritos available anywhere in the area, but what do I know? I've been eating breakfast burritos since the Reagan administration, when they were invented (as far as I know), but mostly of the microwavable variety. They have the potential to be the best food possible, because they combine the two other best foods, breakfast sandwiches and Mexican food, but no one seems to put any real effort into them. They're less likely than their lunch/dinner counterpart to cause gastrointestinal distress. People suspect that the reason Chipotle gives you the runs roughly every third time you visit is because of the cilantro, which is impossible to wash, but I heard it's really the lettuce. Never get lettuce on a burrito from Chipotle. If you're getting one of those bowls, why are you even going to Chipotle? You're probably already fat, and not eating a tortilla is not going to make a difference. But I digress. Upshot is primarily a coffee shop, and I think it's generally well regarded as far as that's concerned, though I'm no expert. I drink a nice, stiff six cups or so of whatever's on sale first thing in the morning and it usually ends up being the highlight of my day. I don't need any coffee in addition to that. I might get nervous. I've had luck lately with the seasonal selections at other local coffee shops that I've visited, so I figured I'd take my chances with an iced strawberry matcha latte. It seemed like it would be nice and refreshing after getting in a few miles with the homies, and damn it if it didn't hit the spot. You could see the actual seeds in it from where they must have crushed up an actual strawberry to make it, thus justifying the price, at least as far as they're concerned. They spared no expense with the burrito either. It's filled with surprisingly large chunks of bacon and avocado. Can they afford to give you more bacon because they don't cook it to the point where it starts to shrink? I like it when it's still kinda chewy, but I'm sure many would beg to differ. That must be how bacon is served in Clayton. They don't have the lovable old James bring it out to you, but I can understand, with this being 2026. It's not the lengthiest tortilla in the world, but it's stuffed to nearly overflowing with eggs, cheese, potatoes and what have you. I'd suggest bringing a date just to see if she could wrap her lips around it, but who's got that kind of money? It would have to be someone you've already been out with a few times, who's with the program, so to speak.

The cocktail menu and RW menu were fabulous, and yet bringing it all to life with effusive knowledge and enthusiasm about the various dishes was our outstanding server, Corinthian. She shared interesting and incredible insight on each offering, making us feel valued and appreciated patrons, advising based on our interests and likes to help us make decisions. Each of us was pleased with our various selections. While the soups were tempting on a cold night, I was delighted with the French-inspired Lyonnaise salad complete with a perfectly prepared soft boiled egg. My panko-encrusted swordfish with burre Blanc sauce was light and tasty. The gooey butter beignets were light on the gooey butter custard-like filling, as promised by our server (and more special than the typical St. Louis dessert), sprinkled with powdered sugar and drizzled with chocolate. The ample dessert (3) provided take home leftovers for delicious breakfast treats. The cocktails I enjoyed included a Japanese Old Fashioned & an Espresso Martini, both very good. Initially upon arrival, an adjacent table of younger women was unusually loud (in a space that doesn't absorb noise well) that I feared would spoil our evening; rather than approach them (tempted) or engage management, I glared a few times at them and it seemed to have resolved. Overall, this was a very enjoyable, comfortable, and satisfying dinner; we would return.

Although the waitstaff are incredibly warm and kind, I thought it was a bit odd that when our plates were being brought out, our server saw a stain on the plate and proceed to SCRATCH IT OFF and still give us that plate. The dining area itself was cute, but it was run down. The empty table next to us had sugar or salt all over it... strange. When our food came out, I was so unimpressed. CLV Burrata: the baguette seemed to have been drenched in oil first and then fried, the pistachio tasted stale, and the burrata had no flavor. CLV Steak Frites: This came with a small side salad and the leaves will wilted and old. The actual steak was not top of the line and it was overly salty. When the server came by to check on us, she asked how everything was and when I said my salad was wilted she had already turned around and said, "great!" I sent my plate back and didn't want anything else. The Bonhomme: A burger that looked nothing special! I didn't try, but my husband said it was average. I would be incredibly weary of anything outside of dinner. And I hope management speaks to their waitstaff about touching people's plates and scratching off old food. If the establishment is THAT slow, but cannot manage to clean their dinnerware and silverware properly... then something is wrong.
