We stopped by for brunch on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised by the wait. Despite the wait, we decided to stay because we knew it would be worth it. They seated us at a long table with people at the other end, but we still had ample space. To started our meal, we ordered a hot chocolate and coffee, along with some of the delicious doughnuts. Those doughnuts were scrumptious, and I even made sure to save one chocolate for after my breakfast. For my main course, I opted for the BBLT, which was an enormous sandwich filled with all the classic ingredients: bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, over-easy egg, and aioli. It was served on a wheat bun with breakfast potatoes, making it a hearty and satisfying meal to kickstart my day. We also shared a giant blueberry pancake, which was a complete meal in itself. I'm still reminiscing about that delicious pancake along with everything else and can't wait to return to this place for another delightful brunch experience!
I had not heard of this place. But a girlfriend of mine invited me there for brunch. It was so good. Really enjoyed the breakfast. Fried rice and my blueberry pancake. This is a definite brunch location to visit in Clayton.
Food is very good. I had the chorizo hash and loved it. However, service was subpar and the space is too small for the amount of tables. Not sure if I just went on an off day.
Attentive service. Even with a packed house. Great quaint local, breakfast diner. He tried the lox avocado, toast, fried rice, and breakfast tacos. Can't wait to return to try more!
This year, when thinking about where I wanted to go to celebrate my birthday, it was a really quick decision for me to make. I knew Half & Half was the only place on my mind! For some reason, the waitlist online was not available so we could not get on the list ahead of time so I am not sure if they took that down or if they just turned it off or what. But that didn't bother me because I was willing to wait if needed. Where Half & Half is located is on a really busy street in Clayton and you really only have the option to find a street parking spot. Maybe you get lucky and find one out front? Or maybe you are like me and need to park 4-5 blocks away and take a little walk. Either way, you can find parking if you are willing to walk a bit. Upon arriving, there were already a ton of people waiting to be seated so I already knew it would be a wait. I talked with the hostess and added my name (party of 2) to the list and was told it would be about 30-45 minutes wait. The restaurant is not very large, so on a cold day, I did not want to wait outside. Instead, I was able to find a little spot in the corner near the bar and just tried to take up as little space as possible while waiting. Eventually, I received the text that our table was ready and so we made our way to the hostess stand (had to make out way through crowds of people who were also waiting) and then the hostess walked us over to our booth for two. It was just perfect for us. Tim, our server came over right away to greet us and offered us coffee or other drinks. Once we ordered, he gave us some time to review the menu and went on his way to grab our drinks. When he came back, we were ready to order, and, of course, I think I had a difficult order, but Tim made it possible and wasn't even bothered by request. I really just wanted a smaller portion of the Clara cake (to share) and then I asked for a scrambled egg and some turkey bacon. I thought this would be a complicated order, but he made it work and I am so grateful for that. My hubby ordered one of the hash bowls with steak. While waiting for our food, we enjoyed coffee and Tim made sure our cups were filled. He even brought over some bailey's for the coffee for my hubby to add since I ordered a mimosa as my cocktail of choice. When the food came out, it was all so fresh and delicious. I legit love the Clara cake so much and it really made my birthday super special! The eggs were super fluffy and the turkey sausage was also good. Since I did not finish my meal, Tim offered to bring over a box and a bag and then he made sure we were all set before he gave us the bill. Since the restaurant was still super busy, we did not hang out for much longer after paying. Instead, we paid, packed up and were out the door. Honestly, the food is always my favorite here. But this visit was even extra awesome since Tim took such good care of us. Servers are busy and I appreciated how he took good care of us. Thanks to Half & Half for the delicious meal and thanks to Tim for the service! I'll be back.
Came here on a weekend for brunch. It gets very busy, especially on Saturday morning so be prepared to join the waitlist ahead of time. They have street parking outside in front of the restaurant. The restaurant is a little bit on the smaller side so with it getting so packed it can be a little tight if you have a larger group. But it is a nice and cute café vibe. The wait staff was friendly and efficient with service. The portion sizes were good and there are a fair amount of options for non-meat eaters. I definitely had plenty to take home with me. Their pancakes are huge and have a really great flavor!

Short wait list this Sunday! Service was fair, pretty busy, we sat inside, but outside was also an option! Lively atmosphere, great for groups and also fine for solo dining. Food is always great, my spouse always orders the blackberry French toast for the table along with the meal. I also had the cold brew in addition to the Cali Omlette!! Yum

I came here for brunch with a friend as she suggested this place. She made a reservation and by the time we got there, we were still 8th on the list with plenty of open tables. We checked in and were seated out on the patio. After sitting, we were quickly given water and asked what we'd like to drink. I was craving a mimosa but they only have the regular and grapefruit flavors available, so I went with the classic. Food wise, we both chose the avocado toast but had our eggs prepared differently. A few minutes later we got our mimosas. I enjoyed the heavy pour! Shortly after, our food arrived and this is where things took a turn. When we got our plates, we noticed the two pieces of avocado toast with eggs on top but that's it. We were taken aback that this didn't look like the pictures we had seen and that the dish seemed so plain. Upon moving my egg to the side, the bread was indeed plain. There was no seasoning, not even the everything seasoning that usually goes on top, no balsamic drizzle, nada. It was super disappointing. We finished and then asked for the check. The food was pretty good but overall, I was underwhelmed. It didn't "wow" me like I had hoped it would.
A cute spot in Clayton! It was fairly busy on Sunday but they were spot on with their wait time estimate which I really appreciated. After getting seated, the service was super fast. Our server came over quickly, and the food was out super quickly too. The seasonal lattes were sweet but tasty. I thought the breakfast fried rice was the unexpected winner of the meal - a lot more flavor than expected and I was skeptical about the pineapple but it worked! The pinto beans in the omelette also worked better than expected. Portions were big so got to take leftovers. Not sure what more there is to ask for!
I really appreciate the variety here. I debated between 4 to 5, because I haven't tried many of the coffee options. Since I've only been once, but would return I would say it's worth a visit. So the pancakes, you can order a stack or singular. I was very grateful because I wanted to try it, but with my avocado toast. Not all places have the egg with the avocado and I loved that they offered this. My friend had some type of scramble. They had a miscommunication on chopping her sausage in it, but small hiccup. The only problem I'd have is I would probably want to order the same thing even though they had a lot of other items that looked appealing. Exception being, I would skip the house coffee and try a specialty. It may be obvious for locals, but only paid street meter parking options.
I live in Soulard but was in Clayton every morning a couple weeks back and ended up eating here 3 times because I really liked the food and service. I initially visited this place because it's a rare downtown restaurant with great street parking so I always knew I could find a spot (huge plus!). My first visit I tried the blackberry cheesecake stuffed French toast but It didn't seem like it was truly stuffed with any cheesecake. It had some on top though and the flavor was still great, just a bit dry. I should've gotten a bit of syrup on the side. I washed it down with an iced French toast latte that was crazy good so I ordered one to go. Finally my server was Molli and she was just perfect. Sweet, talkative, and attentive -- oh and to top it off she saved my butt after I left my credit card there. I hope she sees this because I appreciate her! The next two times I visited that week I was craving oatmeal and they delivered in an elevated fashion. Their banana walnut oatmeal is decadent. I love boring oatmeal at home but it doesn't have to be boring. Half & Half elevates this humble dish into an incredibly tasty experience. I can't get oatmeal at other places now! I washed it down with some OJ that was just alright. It doesn't taste like it's freshly squeezed in house like other breakfast spots in Clayton but it's hardly a complaint. I will visit this warm and cozy spot many times over.

I stopped in here for brunch with my girlfriends Saturday morning and what a cute spot! I'd definitely recommend joining the waitlist at least 30 minutes prior as it was VERY busy; we did so luckily we only waited maybe five minutes before our table was ready. There was also plenty of parking out front of the street and additional parking on those side streets throughout Clayton. Between our table we had the fruit salad, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, the BLT and various lattes and everything was so good. Shoutout to our waitress, also, she was such a gem and very attentive. I was so excited to come here after hearing so many people rave about Half & Half. I knew it would be super busy in a Saturday morning, so I checked in here and had minimal wait time once we arrived to the restaurant. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and made sure to ask that they not be fried in bacon fat, as I am a vegetarian. However, when they arrived, I could not help but think that they had been fried in bacon fat. As a former meat eater, I know bacon when I taste it. Otherwise, the pancakes were just okay. I ordered a vanilla latte, which was subtly sweet and very delicious. I wish I had ordered the French toast - it looked very fluffy. I think I will definitely give Half & Half another try and order the French toast in the future. Updates to come! After this visit, I left feeling that Half & Half was a bit overrated. As I mentioned, though, I will be returning and will update my review after trying the French toast. read more

Ok... I will preface this by saying that H&H could only do so much but I have to mention this because it thoroughly impacted our experience: We joined the waitlist on Yelp at 9:40am. It said to check in by 10:35. We arrived at 10:35, at which point the app then said check in by 10:55-11:25. We waited until about 11:05am before we were seated outside (because we had our small dog). We got water and coffee right away and put in our order. At this time, a road crew came through and began tarring the road. Heat and fumes were emanating from the road about 5 feet from our table to the point where we were literally covering our faces. The waitress offered to move us to another table which was a few feet further away but it was completely slanted so much so that my water was sliding off the table if not propped on something. I went inside and asked if we put our dog in the car briefly (on with AC on of course) if we could eat inside. She said there were no tables available. It's now noon and our food finally came out. At this point the steam is so hot, we're physically sweating even though it was actually a cool shaded morning. We asked for boxes right away bc frankly we couldn't stand it anymore. Again, the staff can't control the road crew but maybe somehow could have adjusted seating after seeing it start down the road? Idk. Anyway to the food - it was excellent! If our experience hadn't taken 2.5 hrs, in which time it was ruined by the tar experience, it would def be a five. My husband got biscuits and gravy with the breakfast fried rice. He thoroughly enjoyed both! Would've been nice to get a small side of rice but it was good. I got the steak and eggs which was AMAZING. Would come back just for this! Steak was cooked perfectly, veggie mix was delicious. I also got one Clara cake on the side. It was tasty but not my fav pancake I've ever had. Next time I would try the blueberry because the pancakes themselves were perfectly cooked and nice and fluffy. Overall, experience was terrible (mostly not the restaurants fault) but the food was delicious! Would come back without the dog, outside of peak hours. read more

Hey hey hey St. Louis!!! I came here to meet a friend for breakfast. Order: 1/2 Blackberry Cheesecake Stuffed French Toast & Salmon hash w/ poached eggs Pros: The flavor of the hash was really really hood! No complaints about that. Cons: Nothing about the French toast is stuffed!!! Basically, they have a texas size piece of bread TOPPED with the blackberry sauce and a scoop of the cheesecake that looks like butter. All I tasted was bread, which I wasnt happy about. They can take the stuff part out of the items name. The hash was really good, however, it was soupy. When I think of a hash, i think of a dish off of the grill (crispy). Unfortunately, my did was more like soup than hash. We did sit outside on the patio and there was a lot of flies swarming around not sure why. On the inside, we were originally sat by the kitchen where they ring in orders not a fan. read more
Long waits on weekend mornings but definitely worth it- you can take a walk while you wait or hop on the waiting list online via home. We decided to go last minute which led to a 20 minute wait. They are very kid-friendly- lots of high chairs and toddlers all around us. The breakfast fried rice was amazing and would highly recommend. The breakfast sandwich was also delicious especially the brioche bun! They get the food to you relatively quickly to continue with the high turnover of the restaurant. Bar seating is first-come-first-serve for seating. read more

The food was amazing but we had to wait a longggg time. We decided to come for brunch at the suggestion of a friend and saw that yelp had the online wait list- awesome! Since we would be brunching on a Sunday morning, we knew the wait would probably be long and joined the wait list when we were still at home and came to the restaurant about 5 minutes before the check in time given on the app. The parking is the back of the restaurant and we were easily able to find a spot. After checking in at the restaurant they told us it would be another 10 minute wait but unfortunately we ended up waiting around for about 20 minutes. The service from our waitress was very attentive and energetic but we waited almost 40 minutes for food. We went through all the phases of having to wait for our meal: first hunger, which then progressed to the stomach growling phase, then to the willing to eat anything in sight phase, then we eventually arrived at the 'so hungry I'm not even hungry anymore' phase. Fortunately when our food came out, our hunger promptly returned and we proceeded to spend the next 10 minutes in silence as we all chowed down. The food was so good! We had the salmon hash skillet and it was delicious! The salmon was perfectly tender and the sauce was rich and flavorful. The portion was generous and I ended up taking some of this home! We also split an order of the Clara Cakes and that was a great call because it really was like a dessert and I'm happy that I didn't order it as my full meal because it may have been too much but to share it with the four of us was perfect- it reminded me of the flavors of a toaster strudel but so much more delicious! In all, I would come back here again and would recommend it to friends but definitely be prepared for a wait. read more

This is our first time here. Got added to the waitlist as the wait was 45-65 minutes...always a good sign? Arrived and got seated right away...although the air conditioning vent was blowing on us the whole time Took a bit to be waited on, coffee came at 20 minutes in...food shortly after. Delish! The best part of the meal was my wife's biscuit...hot, buttery, crispy outside with fresh homemade raspberry jam! Yummo! A bit loud but the waitstaff was friendly and helpful. It's a 4.5 star. Food and service is 5 star but the wait time is not well managed. We were a group of 9 and a furry baby. Everything we ordered was delicious- special mention to the skillet steak, French toast latte, eggs Benedict, biscuit with gravy and Clara cake. Also on the table was breakfast tacos, oatmeal( described as heaven in a bowl by our sweet server), veggie hash, stuffed French toast. The only item we didn't like was biscuits with sausage( it was very dry). The outdoor seating was adequate not overly pretty though. read more

Excellent little brunch spot! The food & coffee was wonderful. The only downside was the waiting area/seating at the restaurant. They are always busy which is a testament to how good the food & service was, but there is not enough room there. The tables are too close & we had to keep scooting so people could make it through, and the people waiting stayed inside because it was so cold so they were hanging around the tables which made it hard to enjoy your meal together with so many people all around you. That was the only negative, the food was great. I got the Tess' Toast & while I didn't take a pic before we ate, it was so much food, so i was able to take 2 slices home! It was french toast with lemon curd & blueberries and I will 100% go back to get it again. Also make sure you get on the waitlist through Yelp ahead of time!! It helped so much! read more
Awesome brunch in St Louis! Everything from the food and service was excellent, perfect brunch meal with so many options for anyone. It was great to be able to use the Yelp Waitlist to check the length of the line and once we checked in we only waited about 10 minutes. The food was excellent - particularly the blueberry pancake with blueberry butter. I also enjoyed sharing the Greek omelette and veggie eggs Benedict. They have great cold brew and a full menu of other coffee drinks. If you are in St. Louis I recommend stopping by Half and Half! read more

I have visited this place many times while visiting my sisters family in St. Louis and I really like the vibes in here. This is a great, somewhat upscale restaurant that is great for breakfast or lunch. They have a simple but diverse menu of staples that will definitely leave you satisfied. We arrived a little after 9am and there was ample seating. We opted for a seat at the bar and I got Avocado Toast with an egg and a great cappuccino. The food is always really good and executed well. You can easily eat too much or just the right amount depending on what you get. It is definitely on the pricier side but well worth it in my opinion. If you are looking for a breakfast spot that is more than Starbuck but not quite a fancy, sit-down spot, try half & half! You will not be disappointed. read more

I came here for brunch and was not disappointed! I wanted to sit on the outside but it was full so we sat inside but it was still great! It didn't take long for the waitress to get to us and get our orders! I grab the French toast cheesecake and it was really good!! My brother got the breakfast fried rice which he thought it was good to. Never had pineapple in rice but it was actually pretty good! Would definitely come back! read more

Cute brunch spot. We did have a little wait, but it was a weekend so that's expected. The restaurant itself is small but it has a good atmosphere. Our waitress was very friendly and gave great recommendations. The blackberry cheesecake french toast was tasty, but could have been more balanced with a little more of the cheesecake filling. The potatoes were so good!!! And the portions were generous. I would recommend! read more

We probably didn't order the right things. Unfortunately it wasn't a great breakfast place for us. The experience and food was just underwhelming. We came on a Sunday which is a very busy day for a breakfast place but we were able to get a table. We got seated at a tall table next to a family. Not my first choice but we took the opportunity to get seated. I got the half & half which is the 2 eggs, potatoes, toast but instead of toast I got fruits. My fiancé got the eggs Benedict with chorizo and guac. The staff recommended the chorizo and they mentioned it was made in house. This intrigued us to order but I have to say it tasted overcooked, dry, and crumbly. The eggs benny did not have poached egg and the hollandaise sauce just looks weird. The potatoes were cold and I cannot even recommend their matcha. Unfortunately it was not a good experience. read more

Really good food everything on their menu sounded amazing and I wanted to get everything lol I got a chai tea latte, oatmeal, and the tess toast. All super good. Not too expensive. Nice atmosphere and I knew I didn't want a full plate of French toast so my waitress recommended I just get one. Best decision ever. Will be coming back. read more

Disappointed in our experience. The two best things was the flat iron skillet and the cinnamon honey latte. Both yummy. The breading on the chicken sandwich wasn't the favorite for our friend and my egg sandwich was a waste of money. Our service was horrible as well. We had two servers which who knew they even worked there.. took an hour for our food to show up. They didn't server all four dishes at the same time and ironically the egg sandwich was last which for a bun with cheese, two pieces of bacon and a single egg... Really... With a side of fruit... Then we never got our waters refilled so I asked a different waitress if she would ask ours. He didn't come so I went inside and asked him. He claims he was just going to check on us. And I said well if you could refill our water. Food still hadn't come and even when it did no one ever filled our water again . We asked for the check when the food came and he asked if we were in a hurry. We said not necessarily but seriously after over an hour without food then getting our food... What is a rush in their mind. Well it didn't take too long after we finished but still a little bit. We won't be back for $99 bucks. No thank you. read more

When you mention brunch in St. Louis, Half & Half is usually part of the conversation. This Clayton hotspot is loved so much so that the wait for a table can be longer than rewatching every episode of Seinfeld. Definitely plan to check in on your Yelp app well in advance of arriving. The earlier you get on the list, the better. The space in Half & Half is intimate, and brunchers don't rush through their meals. This is mainly what causes the long waits. I checked in about 20 minutes before arriving and still waited about a half hour. But it's worth it!! The food at Half & Half is so fresh. You feel like you're eating on a family farm with the highest quality ingredients. The french toast is definitely worth trying. And the portion size is massive. I also love their coffee. It is roasted specifically for Half & Half by Park Avenue. Gotta love spreading all that local love! My most recent trip I ordered the Roasted Tomato & Egg Sandwich. I wasn't blown away by the sandwich, but I still very much enjoyed it, scarfing down the whole thing in the blink of an eye. Two things to note about Half & Half. They have some off street parking available behind their restaurant. The lot is somewhat small and serves the entire shopping plaza. I always check there first to see if there are any spots open. More often than not, there are spots! The other thing to note is the frustrating entryway. I considered docking Half & Half a star because they really should address their waiting area sitch. People will sit in the doorway, blocking the flow of traffic to and from the host stand. And usually, they're fairly rude/oblivious and try to continue to hold their waiting spot on the doorway bench. There's really no good place to stand while you wait besides the street. read more

WORTH THE WAIT!! But hop on the line using Yelp before you leave to plan accordingly! Half & Half is that breakfast/brunch place that has something for everyone - kids, health nuts, people that hate breakfast food, and foodies. My favorite items are the S'mores French Toast and the Breakfast Fried Rice. I usually order both, to balance out the sweet and the savory. The wait can get crazy and the restaurant can get very loud on the weekends. read more

Busy brunch joint with good food. My boyfriend and I ordered Clara's Pancakes, Lox Toast, Veggie Hash and Chai Tea Latte. They made an extra Blackberry Stuffed Brioche French Toast and gave it to us on the house! It ended up being my favorite item of our meal aside from the Chai Tea, which was pretty good, as well. Clara's Pancakes are the most popular item on Yelp, but I personally wasn't a big fan. The granola wasn't that crunchy which I think would've added more textural contrast. Veggie Hash was alright, not much flavor except the carmellized onions. Customer service was lacking - I asked for outdoor seating which the host nodded to, but then we got seated indoors. Also, they forgot our Lox Toast. Otherwise, the wait staff were friendly. read more
