I was devastated for months because my work schedule wouldn't let me have brunch at Grand Pied. I literally dreamed about their pancakes. Today finally came, and I got to visit on a Wednesday lunch. Our hostess and staffs were wonderful and made us feel so special right from the start. Of course, the food was the real highlight. The pancakes were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and perfectly buttery. The gumbo was rich and flavorful, well-seasoned without being overwhelming. The grits were cooked to perfection and paired beautifully with the gumbo. Came in for a weekday breakfast (yay maternity leave!) to avoid the crowds & long line I've heard form on the weekend. You sit and order via QR code, with minimal table service (they bring you water/drinks ordered and food, not much else). The food is like 10/5 amazing and quality. I got the herbed goat cheese omelette and it was perfection. The side salad was perfectly dressed. I ate every last bite. No need to add additional seasonings. Husband got the ham & cheese omelette and felt the same. We split kids pancakes to get the toppings on the side. OMG people don't lie these are an indulgent and amazing treat. 4 stars overall because there are literally 0 modifications which is kind of annoying in my opinion. Like, they were out of hoagies and there was no way to say - I'd still get the sandwich just put it on different bread. Or I don't want mayo. Find that odd. I guess it's a choice but it does deter me from rushing back or trying more on the menu, and be aware if you go. My wife and I stopped into Grand Pied for the first time on Friday, 12/6/25 around 10 AM, and it was a great experience from start to finish. The place has a warm, welcoming vibe that made us feel comfortable right away. The service was friendly and attentive, and you can tell they really take pride in what they do. Our food came out fresh, hot, and full of flavor -- exactly what we were hoping for with a late-morning bite. Everything tasted homemade and thoughtfully prepared. Have had this place on my list since we moved to the south side earlier this year! The parking kind of sucks (street parking) but it was worth it. It's a small place but not tiny. They were immediately friendly and it's charming inside. I loved all of the unique decor and couldn't get over the different pans and bowls they used for light fixtures. The food came out pretty fast and was soooo good. My husband had the gumbo shrimp and grits which were packed with flavor! I tried the ham, eggs, and potatoes! LET ME TELL YOU... AMAZING! Nothing needed any additional seasonings and it was so good. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and so fluffy on the inside. Ham was good, and the gravy was great as well. Cute little charming cozy gem in south city. It's seat yourself and order from the menu you download on your phone. The staff is friendly but you do have to constantly grab an employee if you need anything in addition. The BF began with the Shaken Brown Sugar Oat Iced Cold Brew which is cold brew coffee shaken with oat milk and brown sugar, no frills, just straight to the point and well made, reasonably priced. The pancakes are a must try. They are serving the BEST pancakes in the city hands down. Three buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup, homemade whipped cream and blackberry jam are phenomenal. The pancakes taste as if your grandmother was in the kitchen with her cast iron skillet making you breakfast. The quality is superb. Each and every pancake stays hot from the first bite to the last bite. These pancakes are a family favorite. Crispy edges and golden all around with a fluffy interior. I don't care that these pancakes are $15, they are well worth it!!! ABSOLUTELY delicious, so great in fact we turned around and took my mother a few days later so she could experience the phenomenon. We also tried the bbq pork steak over cheese grits. I have been wanting to get here for dinner to try this pork steak and to know that they had it for breakfast with cheddar grits I couldn't pass it up. I wish I would have passed it up. The pork steak was over cooked and you could tell it was from the day prior. The bbq sauce on top of the pork steak was horrible. The cheese grits were some of the worst grits I have ever eaten. They were runny and not seasoned as was the pork steak and the bbq sauce was so nasty that nothing worked together and in addition each item helped to off-set the other. This dish was so awful it should have been sent back. We have since returned since our initial visit because the pancakes are just that good. Grand Pied was lovely. I ordered beignets and biscuits and there was plenty of food for the price, all of which tasted great. It was unique but still classic. The restaurant itself is also super cozy and provides plenty of caffeine options, like matcha and shaken cold brew. I would give a five stars but the service was a bit rude, saying we "got lucky" to have gotten our table while I was apologizing for being one minute late to our waitlist spot among other disinterested behavior. Great brunch spot! Definitely recommend taking advantage of the waitlist feature on their website before coming in because the space is small. I like the ability to order and pay right from my phone. It's BYOB so we grabbed a bottle of champagne from the cute grocery store on the block. I had the loveliest time here with a friend celebrating her birthday. Grand Pied had been on my list for a while, and it's her favorite brunch in the city. I totally get it!! These are the best grits I've found in the area. The gumbo on top was flavorful, perfectly spiced, with tender sausage and shrimp. The toast and jam, so simple, but their house made preserves were divine. Lovely to split for a side. My friend got the Fries and Shine, I had a bite and the fries and sausage gravy were very, very good. Flavorful gravy, and a crispy yet velvety fry. I want to give a shoutout to the staff member who made my friend's birthday special! She loves the pomegranate lemonade, even mentioned it on the drive over, but it wasn't technically "in stock" - when my friend went to the restroom I asked about it, and she whipped up a lemonade to surprise her with before our food came out! We ordered multiple orders of pancakes online for our elopement. When we went to pick them up, there was a sign on the door stating they were closed for the day due to an electrical outage. We called and explained the situation, and the owner, Tony, was extremely accommodating and was able to "whip up" the pancakes for us despite being closed. This place is a hidden gem! We chose it because it was close to the botanical garden and the menu was appealing. It is pretty small and only offers 2 or 4 top tables plus a few seats at the bar so this is NOT a spot for large groups. There are QR menus on each table and you use that to order food/drinks to the table. I got the brown sugar oat cold brew (YUM!) and we each had the sausage egg and cheese sandwich (the jam it comes with is the perfect compliment to the sandwich)Food and drink were delivered quickly and everything was delicious. Generous serving sizes. They also have a table with to go containers for food and drink so you can pack up any leftovers you want to take. Customers use a QR Code to review the menu offerings. Service was a bit inconsistent, but super friendly. They were packed for weekend brunch, so grace given. Drinks were placed on the table and orders taken. The interior vibe is super cool. Lots of vintage decor in the old building with wood floors. A lot of character. Needless to say I absolutely adored the atmosphere. It's a bit loud, but tolerable. Food arrived around 15 minutes or so. My Super Slinger was exactly as described with potatoes, ground beef chili and egg. It was filling and delicious. My son had the mammoth Dirty Burger which he thought was great. My son's friend had the Pork & Cheddar Omelette which she liked. Checkout was smooth. 4.5, but rounding down with a few service hiccups. I would love to return at a less busy time. About three weeks ago, I attempted to visit this establishment after hearing wonderful reviews about their pancakes. Having recently moved back to St. Louis about six months ago, I was genuinely looking forward to the experience. When my partner and I arrived, we were told there was a 30-minute wait. We were given two options: wait 30 minutes or sit at the bar. I politely asked if we could wait at the bar until a table was ready and was told "no -- it's either one or the other." Although I felt some discomfort in that moment, we agreed to sit at the bar. The space was small and crowded, and the bartender seemed to notice that we were uncomfortable. She mentioned that there was an empty table and offered to seat us, which then led to a visible disagreement between her and the manager. At that point, we had not ordered anything and chose to leave. Weeks later, my partner encouraged me to give them another try by placing an online order instead. When ordering, the description clearly stated "and/or queso and gravy." I selected "add queso" to specify my choice. I attempted to call the number listed online to clarify the note and inform them we were on the way, but the listed number appeared to be a personal cell phone and no one answered. Upon arrival, our food was sitting at the bar. We waited until the same owner/manager from our previous visit approached us as the receipt was visible, and I seen my name She asked, "Is that your order?" -- despite there not appearing to be multiple orders present -- I replied yes her response was oh I need to double check. Before leaving, we checked the bag and noticed gravy and queso had been placed on the fries instead of just queso. I politely returned to the counter and explained that I had ordered fries with cheese only and asked if they could quickly remake them. I was immediately told "no" and that I had received what I ordered as she aggressively pointed to the receipt . I calmly explained that we do not eat MEAT (gray contain ham andouille and bacon) and reiterated what my order specified. Her tone became increasingly dismissive and rude. When I asked for a refund, that request was also refused. After my partner intervened due to the escalating tone and unprofessional behavior, and the cook stepping from the back she finally agreed to have the fries remade -- which is all I had initially requested to begin with However, her demeanor remained cold and combative. Each time I attempted to explain that I had tried calling ahead, she insisted they "don't have a phone," despite the number being publicly listed is the one I called. I have never experienced treatment like this at a restaurant. On both occasions, the interaction left me feeling unwelcome and deeply uncomfortable. The hostility, defensiveness, and dismissiveness directed toward me felt troubling but just let me know that bias and prejudice can still surface and some people just can't hide it. As we were leaving -- after the entire confrontation had been witnessed by other patrons -- she loudly said, "Thank you, you're welcome," which felt disingenuous given the prior interaction. Unfortunately, due to these experiences, I will not be returning. Especially when this type of behavior is coming from the owner, who should know that respectful customer service and basic courtesy should not be conditional. read more

Atmosphere is adorable. Restored historic patio with kitschy decor. Side patio with greenery for days, (did have a large amount of bees that were also loving said greenery). Love that the place is BYOB and has a place to buy it a few doors down, you can drink what you want! Menu is made for the munchies or a hangover cure, and I'm loving it. Grand Pied, French for Big Foot they say, is an interesting find. The space is small and indoor seating is limited with Idaho bar decor and background music that didn't feel like it went with brunch. You order off QR codes at your table and they don't serve alcohol but you are welcome to bring your own. They very much have the attitude of, "this is how we run our business, you can come or not." So how does our journey come to 5 stars? The food is delicious. We had the beignets, gumbo, and grits which were all very good but the show stopper was the pancakes. Some of the best pancakes I've ever had. They're almost funnel cake like in their preparation and go excellent with the jam, butter, or syrup they come with. The pancakes are worth the 5 stars by themselves and that's not just me saying that. There were people coming in alone to sit at the bar to get their pancake fix. It's cramped but if you get your kid to sit, it's a good family dining experience, this is especially the case when weather allows outdoor seating. I love restaurants that I never have to worry that the food quality varies, they are always serving delicious, high quality food. Another thing that's never a worry is the experience with servers. I really like that the online waitlist keeps track of how many parties are ahead of you as well as wait-times. While you're waiting, definitely head over to the liquor store down the street and pick up some booze as its BYOB. The most popular combo seemed to be bringing your own bottle of champagne and either bringing along a jug of orange juice, or ordering a carafe of orange juice at the restaurant. By the time we were finally seated, everyone was starving. We each ordered our own entrees and shared a platter of three of their pancakes. I got the Hot Honey Fried Chicken plate which came with two pieces of chicken thighs. While the chicken was not the juiciest piece of chicken I've ever had, I really enjoyed the outside coating on the chicken which was perfectly fried and had just the right balance of sweet and savory. The pancakes that were shared are next level. Never in my life have I had pancakes this fluffy before. I really loved the whipped cream that comes with the stack of pancakes and would recommending smothering that on along with the jam. Service here is top-notch as well. If you only have one opportunity for brunch, you must try out Grand Pied.
