I was remarking to a member of my running group that I've probably driven past this place a million times and never noticed it was there. I'm not sure what I imagined it being. A Kinkos? Some place where I could print off copies of my zine about protecting the environment by committing minor acts of terrorism in America's forests? Turns out, it's a place where you can listen to truly random vinyl records while eating burritos entirely too good to be available in Clayton. Nothing about the latter says this part of town except for the price, which is almost like someone's cruel idea of a joke. I'd suggest that they're the best breakfast burritos available anywhere in the area, but what do I know? I've been eating breakfast burritos since the Reagan administration, when they were invented (as far as I know), but mostly of the microwavable variety. They have the potential to be the best food possible, because they combine the two other best foods, breakfast sandwiches and Mexican food, but no one seems to put any real effort into them. They're less likely than their lunch/dinner counterpart to cause gastrointestinal distress. People suspect that the reason Chipotle gives you the runs roughly every third time you visit is because of the cilantro, which is impossible to wash, but I heard it's really the lettuce. Never get lettuce on a burrito from Chipotle. If you're getting one of those bowls, why are you even going to Chipotle? You're probably already fat, and not eating a tortilla is not going to make a difference. But I digress. Upshot is primarily a coffee shop, and I think it's generally well regarded as far as that's concerned, though I'm no expert. I drink a nice, stiff six cups or so of whatever's on sale first thing in the morning and it usually ends up being the highlight of my day. I don't need any coffee in addition to that. I might get nervous. I've had luck lately with the seasonal selections at other local coffee shops that I've visited, so I figured I'd take my chances with an iced strawberry matcha latte. It seemed like it would be nice and refreshing after getting in a few miles with the homies, and damn it if it didn't hit the spot. You could see the actual seeds in it from where they must have crushed up an actual strawberry to make it, thus justifying the price, at least as far as they're concerned. They spared no expense with the burrito either. It's filled with surprisingly large chunks of bacon and avocado. Can they afford to give you more bacon because they don't cook it to the point where it starts to shrink? I like it when it's still kinda chewy, but I'm sure many would beg to differ. That must be how bacon is served in Clayton. They don't have the lovable old James bring it out to you, but I can understand, with this being 2026. It's not the lengthiest tortilla in the world, but it's stuffed to nearly overflowing with eggs, cheese, potatoes and what have you. I'd suggest bringing a date just to see if she could wrap her lips around it, but who's got that kind of money? It would have to be someone you've already been out with a few times, who's with the program, so to speak. read more

This location is built around a vinyl record/hifi music concept so music is a huge part of the experience. Coffee is pretty consistent (similar to the other locations) with seasonal drinks and house-made syrups. I believe the food options are the same as well although I didn't try any at this location. The parking can be a little tricky and seating is limited, but if you're lucky enough to get a spot, it can be a really relaxing place to hang out or get work done. The vibe is lively, and they always have the best beats playing on the record player, which makes the experience even better. The staff is always so sweet whenever I visit, too. I've tried their iced matcha and hot chai, both are okay, but I definitely love their pastries more. Overall, a great stop if you're in Clayton. read more

Had a great experience at HiFi - Upshot! I didn't get a chance to snap a photo inside because it was busy but the vibe is definitely inspired by music and old records. It was a great atmosphere. There is limited seating but I was able to snag a seat outside on this unseasonably warm day in December. The staff was very welcoming and friendly and offered some suggestions on food. I ended up going with the original croffle (croissant waffle) and was not disappointed. My golden milk latte was also the perfect flavor. I was so excited to try out this new coffee shop in the Clayton area. I have seen many pictures of HiFi - Upshot and I could tell even before coming there that the vibe was going to be dope. I went on a Friday morning and it was popping in the shop. The energy was so vibrant matching with the aesthetic of the coffee shop. You can definitely work here too but it's not your typical co-op working coffee shop so don't expect to take your meeting calls. I ordered the cardamom tonic and it was so refreshing, perfect for a hot summer day. It's a harmonious combo of cold brew, orange juice and sparkling water. I also got a bagel and cream cheese and it was yummy as well. They have a side parking lot behind the building in the neighborhood but it's a bit limited so you can either do meters or street parking in the neighborhood. Watch out for the resident/permit only parking signs. Overall, I do enjoy my experience here a lot and I will return. read more

I saw this place come across my feed and after taking a look at the website, knew it was something I wanted to see in person. I decided to stop here omw to church. I received a warm greeting whilst walking in. The place is smaller than imagined but cozy. After seeing how good their breakfast sandwiches looked, I decided to get the classic and a chocolate chip banana oat cookie. There was one person ahead of me who was waiting on her food, so I assumed it wouldn't be too long of a wait. All of a sudden, a rush of people came in with their dogs. Don't get me wrong, while I love animals, it probably wasn't ideal to have them in such a small place, especially with tables their height. It didn't help once they started barking. After a while, I finally got my food. I was a bit disappointed with my sandwich. While the taste was great, overall, it was much smaller than pictured. Additionally, it was a weird contrast tasting a semi-warm egg to a cold avocado. It would have been nice if everything were the same temperature. As for the cookie, I have mixed reviews. Unfortunately, the cinnamon and oats overpowered whatever chocolate was supposed to be in the cookie. I feel like I tasted everything but the chocolate and the chocolate chip is supposed to be the best part. I enjoyed the food and will more than likely come back, but will try something different next time. read more

I've been coming since they've first opened not too long ago and everything about this place has been wonderful! The staff is always so friendly and the music always on point. Cute coffeeshop and in a great, walkable location, just off the Centennial Greenway from Olive to Shaw Park. I loved my London Fog, and they had my boyfriend's favorite milk alternative, almond milk. It's small inside, but they've got a really cool vibe inside and the barista was very friendly. I'd say pricing is in line with other coffee shops in the area. There's no parking, but you can park in the plaza with The Pasta House and The Original House of Pancakes for free for a very short walk to the coffeeshop. My only complaint is the music seemed a bit loud when we came in and I wish they had couches or armchairs to match the cozy music vibe better. If they had comfier seating, I think I'd be more likely to stay a while and enjoy my coffee, compared to the metal seating options now. Overall, I'll definitely come back and interested trying some of their food offerings! read more

The spot itself is vibey and quaint, good music playing and lots of natural light. I stopped here in between meetings to take some zoom calls and the internet wasn't the strongest, I was unable to take my calls. I also only had one bar (totally not the coffee shops fault) so taking calls wasn't in my cards for the visit. I'm not sure if it's like that all of the time or was just a glitch. Pretty cool cafe here- when I walked in they were playing music from a Japanese vinyl and the vibe was great. There were a few people here and there studying and working with their drinks and the staff made sure everyone there was comfortable while they were working. I was greeted with a lot of enthusiasm when I walked in and I tested out a few of their drinks while I was there. The other downside is that there is only paid street parking. There's a mini mall w free parking down the street. (I have been twice and tried at least 4 different drinks.) This is a tough one. After a lot of back and forth I'll go with 5 stars and start with my complaints, rather than 4 and my compliments. This place is very pricey. Rotating drip I think was at least $4, and I think a single origin cortado cost $5, both plus tax...and it wasn't even single origin, but rather a special blend. Cold brew was $5, although the menu said $4.50. Barista said it was a mistake, but still charged the higher price, and they had only been open two weeks, so a price increase already seemed weird. And while it is a comfortable place to hang out, with the turntables and records a nice touch, would have liked it to be a little more coffeeshop cozy. Finally, I waited for a while while the barista caught up with a friend one day, which is usually fine, but felt like it was a little overboard in this instance. That said, I loved the coffee and, even though I don't even live in St. Louis. I am so thankful to have a great specialty coffeeshop in that area. Previously, I felt like I had to go all the way to Soulard to Goshen for coffee of this quality in St. Louis. The Kyoto cold brew was the best I have ever had. It was the best of the coffee without the overwhelming qualities Kyoto sometimes has. The normal cold brew was also good. I had a drip coffee, kenyan, that was outstanding as well. Okay, this place is phenomenal. I'm not going to lie, I was cautiously optimistic about this place. But boy was I wrong! Upon my entry, the staff were quick to greet me and asked if I needed any help. I told them no, as I had already checked the menu out online, and they left me alone. Nothing worse than a hovering cashier waiting for you to just order and move on. I felt like they were happy to help if I needed anything. Anyway... The vanilla latte I had was WONDERFUL. My drive home from this shop was 10 min, the coffee was gone by then because I couldn't take my mouth away from it. The best part though, was the breakfast burrito.
