Best bakery in town! Highly recommend the cookie cake. I have ordered for countless celebrations; it is super tasty and extremely reasonable price. Everyone always raves about it when eating it. The cakes are really good too. I love the ability to customize and the handwriting is always so elegant. The bakery itself is essentially a checkout counter. I've purchased Cakery cakes from Straub's before, but this time I bought directly from the actual bakery and was completely blown away by the selection. They even offer same-day ordering and customization, which is impressive. The vanilla bean cake with vanilla buttercream is hard to beat. Highly recommend. read more

Wow! So this was place was recommended by my HR manager and she suggested we try it for our birthday celebrations we do each month. I opted to get the three cakes chosen below, the French vanilla ready-to-go, the chocolate chip ready-to-go, and the Christmas confetti ready-to-go. Each cake is customizable, is 9 inches and serves approx. 10. Ordering was simple as it's all done online; however, if you do have questions, you'll need to call and leave a vm. Other than that, it was a seamless process. Now to the cakes.... They're delicious! Absolutely delicious! I'm going to use a word that makes most people cringe and it's moist. The slices I had were moist, fluffy, airy and all around decadent. There were at least 5 people who all said, "mmmmmm, this is GOOD!" At the same time, so if you have that many people oohing and awing over cake, you're def. doing something right. I can't wait to try them again! read more

Best cake in stl!! I used The cakery for my wedding and they were very easy to work with and achieved my exact vision of what I wanted! In addition, to the looks the cake itself is even better! We did a custom three tier wedding cake with three different flavors with vanilla buttercream (chocolate, caramel, and golden yellow). We saved our top tier for our one year anniversary and it was still AMAZING!! I've heard people say that it's not good a year later but not ours! Since my wedding we have been back many times. I ordered my mother in law one of there ready-to-go cakes last month. She loves chocolate so I ordered the triple chocolate ready-to-go cake. It was a single layer chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. I'm not the biggest chocolate person but I was obsessed! It was so good and wasn't overly rich like some chocolate cakes are. They also added words and gold sprinkles for free! There were additionally options, that's just what I picked. The online ordering system was really easy to use and pick up went smooth. They brought the cake to my car. One of my other favorites is the cake in the cup. It's 1 pint of cake which seems like a lot but it's so good you can't stop eating it. I usually buy one golden yellow and one chocolate and then mix it together and give my mom one. I'd definitely recommend the cakery for all your cake needs! read more

The Cakery offers a seamless online ordering experience. I ordered a cake for my mom's birthday via their website, and was able to pick it up easily on the arranged day. They even waited to ice the "Happy Birthday" portion so they could clarify the wording with me first. Will definitely order again! I usually grab these cakes from Straub's, but I had such a pleasant experience in-shop and online that I will do this moving forward. read more

3 stars, because when I ordered one of their generic birthday cakes the recipients really loved everything about it. However, I also asked them for a birthday cake for a person who is very ill and has difficulty swallowing. Their wish was a birthday cake from the cakery. I was told that they cannot do anything special, but that I could buy one of their plain cakes, take off the frosting myself and then put on whipped cream. Uhm, no, thank you. That left a bitter taste for me (no pun intended). read more

Still 5 stars! We order a cake each year for my daughter's birthday. This year, we ordered a Frozen II themed cake. Because of COVID-19, they had to cancel the custom order but was able to sell one of their single layer cakes. We couldn't let a year go by without a cake from The Cakery! They put some sprinkles on it and wrote "happy birthday" to make it as special as possible. I was impressed with the procedures to ensure a contact free pick-up. They were friendly as always. If you do not need a cake, it's worth a stop to get a "cake in a cup" to enjoy! This is the best cake in St. Louis. read more

Needing a Birthday cake in a hurry... I Yelp local bakeries near my work and this little gem pops up. They have 9" cakes to go... Perfect. I ordered a Chocolate Chip Cake..but they needed to ice it first.. fresh baked today!! The Baker iced it and added some melted ganache with some chocolate chips and wrote my Birthday message!!! Everyone was so helpful... The prices are a little steep. $28 for a single layer cake???? I was told that Chocolate Chip was an excellent choice... Belive me..it was. I am not sure I have ever had a Chocolate Chip cake..but I believe it maybe my favorite now. We went here for a last minute birthday cake for our 1 year old. The options were not too limited considering we showed up 24 hours before our small party. We bought a French vanilla cake with vanilla icing. One of the bakers wrote a happy birthday message on the cake for us. The cake turned out to be a big hit. The icing was as delicious as I expected. I heard from other people that have bought cakes here that they are great and I agree! I will certainly go back here for my future cake and cookie needs. It was time for a work birthday party and we discussing cake. One of my co-workers, said how about trying, "The Cakery". I immediately light up and said, YES! YES! I grabbed my smartphone, and showed them reviews and pictures on Yelp to sell them on the idea of ordering the cake from, The Cakery. My enthusiasm sold them and we ordered the birthday cake. The honoree is a big candy lover, so we selected one topped in a variety of sweet treats. The cake was a two tiered chocolate separated by a vanilla butter creme. The top was close to a Tiffany Blue dripping down the sides. Beautiful presentation. Our birthday boy loved his cake and my co-workers who had never experienced, The Cakery were totally impressed. They loved the rich flavor and how moist the cake was. This was a total win. Perhaps we'll celebrate the next birthday with cupcakes from, The Cup. Mostly a custom cake shop, but I stopped in for a quick dessert and found out that they also have "cake-in-a-cup's" and a variety of small cakes available for take out as well. The small cakes have about 10 slices in them, and there is about the equivalent of 2 slices of cake in a cake-in-a-cup. I got a yellow cake cake-in-a-cup and I was very impressed, as it was was very moist and rich. read more

It is a full week before Christmas. I went to The Cup in the CWE wanting to order a simple red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and Christmas sprinkles for Christmas Eve. I was informed that the only way to obtain this "custom" cake was through the Cakery, the Cup's custom bakery. Drove over to the Cakery on Tamm Ave, where I was told that, no, actually, they are NOT taking any custom orders "so close to Christmas." Is red velvet with cream cheese really considered custom? Is it really that difficult to let the staff at all locations know that there are no more custom orders before Christmas? So even though I would much rather support a small business in the city, I can't because they are disorganized as well as limited in what they have available. It's too bad, because a few minor management changes would make all the difference for this company. Sadly, this type of experience is why people end up going to Dierbergs, Schucks or Straubs! read more

Best cake in St. Louis, no debate. Cake is so moist and the butter cream frosting is out of this world delicious. And their design abilities are off the chart amazing. I have given them pictures of decorations from last 4 parties I threw, and they have replicated them on the cakes perfectly. I attached a couple for reference, tiki one is especially outstanding. Great does not sufficiently describe the quality of the cake we ordered from The Cakery! I ordered a 2 tiered baby shower cake with chocolate cake/chocolate ganache top layer and vanilla cake/raspberry filling bottom layer. From the time I placed my order, they communicated with me via email about every detail. I sent them a picture I found and they absolutely nailed it! Best wedding cake EVER! It was perfect, exactly what we wanted and I got so many compliments from our guests about how light, delicious, and moist our cake was. It was so beautiful and the cakery was extremely accommodating of my very specific taste. I had a standard package for my cake, and I had asked if I could alternate standard frosting designs every other tier - which they accommodated! Thank you! If you're like me and not great at planning ahead, ordering a custom cake a month in advance is probably not going to happen. But the Cakery saved the day for my mother in law's birthday! I was able to order a ready-made caramel cake a few days ahead of time, pay for it online, and pick it up the day of the celebration. They even customized it with writing for me, and I had the option to add candles, toppers, sprinkles, and more. The cake itself was one of the best cakes I've ever had. The texture and flavor were unreal, and they nailed the proportion of cake-to-frosting. I'm already thinking of excuses to buy my next cake from them. I normally don't use a bakery for cakes. I'm pretty good at baking and I really enjoy doing it for my guests. One the the issues I've had in the past is bakery cakes usually taste "institutional". This weekend was my 64th birthday. I was planning a dinner party for twelve, two entrees, three vegetables, gumbo and of course birthday cake. I knew the work was going to knock me out. This bakery is the best. First of all, the service is always very sweet and kind. I love the fact that they have ready-to-go cakes. I'm always running behind planning on birthdays. When purchasing a $25-$400+ cheesecake, an additional fee for a task that takes roughly 20 seconds feels unnecessary and, frankly, a bit off-putting. While I understand that rising costs are impacting businesses everywhere, this type of nickel-and-diming can feel discouraging--especially to long-standing, repeat customers who have consistently supported the business. Hank's Cheesecake remains exceptional, and the product is second to none. I hope management reconsiders this policy, as it slightly detracts from what has otherwise been an outstanding customer experience for many loyal patrons.

This was my second time coming to this place…read more The staff is so inviting and friendly and are willing to answer any and every question you have. They made a fresh pot of coffee and even went the extra mile to go get ice as we came in later in the evening and they had run out. I did tell them they didn't need to, but he insisted which I thought was outstanding. This quaint little café is so charming inside. It allows people to gather eat a sweet treat and have general conversation conversations where you can actually hear one another. They do have outside seating too. The chocolate cake was soft and as a non-cake lover I found this very delicious. Definitely worthy of sharing. I ordered a quiche to go. I had mentioned they didn't have the spinach feta pastry that I had before. The gentleman stated we have some in the back, I'm happy to get you one. So I ordered that too. And although this was only our second time coming, the fact that they'll make a fresh pot of coffee in my opinion is key to a great café. I will keep this in my rotation of places to go.

As I was walking to the door, I see a man cleaning the tables. He walks toward the door as I'm walking up to it. We're literally standing face to face with the door in between us. I smile, he is stone faced. I go to open the door as he walks away. The door is locked. I try a few more times, thinking maybe it's me. I look around at the hours again, but next to it is a "we're open" sign. I try maybe 3-4 times more before I give up. I walk to the window and he's sitting at a table toward the back, looking at me. We just look at each other, then he looks at his computer. I turn toward my car, then turn back around and he's still looking at me! I sat in my car, confused. He never looked back up from his computer, so I left. Highly disappointed.

The wine and bourbon list was massive and I recommend that you do your research in advance. It is way too big to really explore at the table. Bourbons were kind of high priced but, "fine dining" so expected. House salad is really good and fresh with nice light, balanced ingredients. We tried the korean cauliflower and bread service for apps. The cauliflower was ok but I wouldn't order again. It was a little disappointing that they charge for bread service. A single order comes with 5 pieces of bread, connected but tearable, and each a pretty small finger-sized piece. The board they served it on had a well full of olive oil and that was a mess. It was hard to pass without spilling and hard to share the oil since you had to pass the whole big bread board with it. Definitely a form over function thing that caused some frustration. Most of my party got steaks and all were very happy. 2 of my party got their steaks tuscan style and although they really liked the flavors on the meat, they wished they had not gotten salads first since the tuscan style plate replaced the usual potato and veg side with an arugula salad (so double salads for those folks). One person got the pork chop and it was massive, seemed like he liked it. I got the tagliatelle ragu and it was a good portion, not obscene but I had leftovers. It kind of tasted like pot roast pasta in a decent way. I don't know if I would get it again but I was not disappointed. 2 in our party ordered dessert, creme brulee and chocolate torte. The chocolate torte was phenomenal and one person said they would have come just for that. Not a lot of non-alcohol after dinner drink options. I ordered drip coffee and it was better than most I have had after dinner at supposedly nice restaurants, although it wasn't amazing. Some at our table ordered port and the bottle was humungous - a very amusing presentation. We were celebrating 4 birthdays among our 6 diners and they brought us a very nice plate of warm, gooey, chocolate chip cookies cut into quarters to share. This was a PERFECT birthday acknowledgement. We didn't need a big dessert per person or one to share with 6 spoons. It was small, delicious, and a gracious gift. If I could do half stars I would give 4.5. There were some small misses that I would not expect from a restaurant of this caliber. I ordered the 4oz filet Oscar style. The meat was tender and very well seasoned, the crab was fresh, and the homemade hollandaise really pulled it all together. My husband had the ribeye. It was a flavorful cut, a little fatty (as ribeye tends to be), but exactly what you'd expect from that cut. The steaks come with a twice-baked potato and vegetable (or you can swap for different vegetables). The potato was flavorful but fairly dense. We also did the bread service - it was good, but felt a bit pricey for the portion. We ended with the flourless chocolate torte, which was very rich and the perfect way to finish the meal - especially on Valentine's Day. Overall, the food was good and the menu is solid. The quality was there, but the portions, bread service and sides didn't fully meet expectations. That said, it was still a lovely experience and a great date-night spot.

This place is so perfect! They were so nice and worked with us in making our wedding cake with in a two week notice. I didn't know what to do about a wedding cake and so I went to Google and emailed several places. The Cakery replied back right away and they were very accommodating. We tried several samples and they were all yummy. But the standout was the rum cake with raspberry fruit filling which is what we picked for our wedding cake. It was delicious. Everyone raved on how great the cake was. We can't wait to thaw out the top tier. I will always order future cakes from them from now on. read more
