Wow! So this was place was recommended by my HR manager and she suggested we try it for our birthday celebrations we do each month. I ordered my mother in law one of there ready-to-go cakes last month. She loves chocolate so I ordered the triple chocolate ready-to-go cake. It was a single layer chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream. I'm not the biggest chocolate person but I was obsessed! It was so good and wasn't overly rich like some chocolate cakes are. However, I also asked them for a birthday cake for a person who is very ill and has difficulty swallowing. Their wish was a birthday cake from the cakery. I was told that they cannot do anything special, but that I could buy one of their plain cakes, take off the frosting myself and then put on whipped cream. Uhm, no, thank you. It is a full week before Christmas. I went to The Cup in the CWE wanting to order a simple red velvet cake with cream cheese icing and Christmas sprinkles for Christmas Eve. I was informed that the only way to obtain this "custom" cake was through the Cakery, the Cup's custom bakery. Drove over to the Cakery on Tamm Ave, where I was told that, no, actually, they are NOT taking any custom orders "so close to Christmas." Is red velvet with cream cheese really considered custom? Is it really that difficult to let the staff at all locations know that there are no more custom orders before Christmas? So even though I would much rather support a small business in the city, I can't because they are disorganized as well as limited in what they have available. It's too bad, because a few minor management changes would make all the difference for this company. I was able to order a ready-made caramel cake a few days ahead of time, pay for it online, and pick it up the day of the celebration. They even customized it with writing for me, and I had the option to add candles, toppers, sprinkles, and more. The cake itself was one of the best cakes I've ever had.
