A long standing St Louis tradition...the place looks simply neat. And that outside sign is absolutely neat at night and all its neon. The bakery items....not all our favorite. - Iced Cookies: look neat and we wanted them to be good. But the cookie part had that flour-ee taste. - Pettifor: came out of the case with very cold/hardened exterior. Unbelievable Ooey Gooey Butter cake!! We were visiting and wanted to bring some home with us. The smell alone of Federhofer's is incredible. This place is such a staple in our community and I was happy to be able to support local when I needed some cookies for an event! They sell cookies by the pound, and I ended up getting three pounds to go along with a hot chocolate bar. They had an incredible variety of small cookies that literally melt in your mouth. Some were cookies they have all year round while some were holiday themed. Tons of attendees asked where they were from, they were definitely a hit. Parking lot is pretty big right off of gravois, and the staff was super kind and helpful. They have a massive variety of options, definitely recommend checking them out. read more

We have been steady customers for many years, especially at Christmas. For the first time ever, we were disappointed in our cakes, cookies and breads. The rye bread is not the same as in years past. The Swedish crumb (a family favorite) is different; I can't quite put my finger on it. And the Springerle cookies that I eagerly await each year have BARELY a hint of anise. If cost-cutting measures are in place, I would rather pay a little more and enjoy the same quality. We won't discontinue our visits but we now understand why some folks switch allegiance. read more

With a solid German name like Federhofen would have anticipated more German type backers goods I.e., Apfelkuchen, Beliners, and streuselkuchen. Although the latter was available, did not seem to be the same - still very good. Did I mention Obstkuchen would have been great but didn't carry it. The bakery products may be good, but customer service is awful. I ordered a cake and was quoted a price. When I picked up the cake I was charged a 40% higher price. Federhofer wouldn't stand by their quoted price. Instead, they firmly said that they were charging me the correct amount, according to their price book, for the product and would not stand by their quote. If you get a quote from them be very cautious. I will no longer trust Federhofer's word and will not shop there again. read more

Federhofer's Bakery is a St. Louis Institution. This Bakery has stood the test of time. They produce great baked goods, sweet treats, and help make amazing family memories for their customers. Bringing Cake's from Federhofer's to any Birthday or Celebration will have the whole group asking where you got the cake. Our family favorite from here is the Shadow Cake. The Shadow Cake is one layer Chocolate, one layer White Cake with Chocolate Icing that falls over the edges of the cake. Other favorites are the Gooey Butter Pastry, Carmel Pastry, and Cherry Pastry. My mom, sister and I stopped by for a sweet treat while we were in the area. There were so many beautiful desserts in their case and I don't think you could go wrong with any of them! Especially if you have a hankering for one of the best gooey butter cakes this side of the Mississippi you are in the right place. I needed 5 gooey butter cakes to take home with me to Florida. Not only were they able to fill my order but they individually froze prepared and shrink wrapped them for pickup so I could get them home in one piece even though they won't be for long. They had a tremendous selection of colorful, aromatic cookies, cupcakes, pies and other wonderful pastries (many of which we had never before seen). Even the dinner rolls and breads made my mouth water! They also had a huge display of decorated cakes available for pre-order. A small refrigerated case held bottled milk, water, and sodas for purchase. No tables for indoor dining - but that explains the people eating in the cars in their large parking lot!
