Ugggggggh this bakery is so gooood. They have a pavlova cake (my favorite) but we already exceeded our baked goods budget and that was a $45 cake. We stopped by on a whim once I realized how relatively close it was and not in the city. The parking lot is very small and shared with other businesses so depending on when you arrive, it can be full. We were greeted by the team! There is only window seating (maybe 6 chairs total) so majority ordered to go The pastry case was a gold mine of treats and various cakes! While my husband and I thought about our order, they got drinks started for us: an iced tea and a vanilla latte. We ended up with: smoked pork sandwich, prosciutto sandwich, caia (vanilla bean mousse cake), a chocolate croissant, a cheesy focaccia roll. The breads for the sandwiches were great and soft after being warmed up! My toddler loved the caia and refused to share with us. I know it sounds strange to go to the bakery of an award-winning pastry chef/ baker and get the Roast Beef sandwich, but there it is. I love this sandwich! Roast Beef, horseradish aioli, white cheddar, red onion on a poppy seed challah, oh my. On this day, they had something on the sweet side that caught my eye, a blueberry cream cheese Danish. I am always drawn to blueberry so I couldn't pass it up. I am not much of a sweet eater, hence the Roast Beef sandwich love but every once in a while, there is a sweet treat that I really love and this was one of those times! It was sweet, flaky, and delicious! I had a taste in the car and would have had another 1/4 after the sandwich but I ate the whole thing, I just couldn't stop. Seriously, Five Stars is not enough for Nathaniel Reid Bakery. I'd give them a 10 Star rating if I could. The shop is pristine. The display cases are filled with works of art, that taste delicious. The staff is cheerful, friendly and all of them dressed in uniforms gives a feeling of professionalism. I enjoyed a Smoked Ham and Gruyere Croissant and a black coffee in house. I was to have a seat at the counter in their front window and relax while my dogs were at the doggie spa up the street. The croissant was super-super flakey and the smoked ham paired beautifully with the gruyere cheese. I couldn't come to NRB and not take home a couple of sweet treats. My favorite treat was the Raspberry Lemon Financier. It was so good the next morning with my home brewed coffee. Then that evening I enjoyed a Lemon Cake whose name I cannot recall. It exceeded moistness and the strong lemon flavor was just what I like. In addition to my treats, I got a Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookie for my fur-babies pet stylist as part of her tip. My only dislike and it's minor, is that they serve Kaldi's Coffee. I'm glad they are supporting another local small business, but I am not a fan of their product. The chocolate didn't blow me away, but my son loved the regular butter croissant! Was visiting a friend who lives here who raves about Nathaniel Reid's kouign amann- and he did not lie. This is maybe one of the best I've ever had. Worth a trip for this alone. Everything else I tried was good or okay. The honey cheese focaccia (good balance of sweet and savory and very fluffy), orange almond cake (a little dense but loved the passionfruit glaze), and the Caia cake (pretty). Line is long but moves quickly. We had about a 10 min wait on a Saturday morning which is not bad at all. Some seating by the windows, but def a more grab and go type spot. read more

There's no better bakery in this area for unique and delicious pastries. Went in for a dessert for a dinner we were hosting and walked out with enough pastry delight to take us into the next day. Of what I've tried so far, it's hard to pick a favorite. The smoked pork sandwich was on a soft, salty focaccia-type bread. Plenty of pork and slaw. It disappeared very rapidly. I then chased it with an Americano and chocolate croissant. What to say about this croissant? Probably the flakiest I've ever eaten. It is safe to say that NRB really is the best of the best! My friend and I have a bi-monthly off campus meeting and we always start with a stop at NRB for treats for the day. The workers are always so helpful and friendly. And I think it's safe to say some of them may even remember us since we have become regulars. I always start with ordering the chicken salad croissant to take for lunch and then I usually order other treats. I can't say no to the chocolate-almond croissant as it is my favorite! And there was one time where I had to introduce my friend to the kouign amann since she had never had one - she is a fan! I sometimes order a danish and the other day I ordered their new blueberry cheese danish which was just perfect and I am still thinking about it. The macarons are also divine and I like to get a few from time to time. Read about this place when I was doing research and everyone on Reddit was recommending this place. Came here on a Thursday afternoon and walked out with $120 worth of goodies. The store is fairly small and there are lots of people there but the line moves fairly quickly. I got one of each cake, croissants, and some of the chocolates / goodies they sell on the side. The honey focaccia was good - light and fluffy - more cheesy than honey, I actually wish it was a touch sweeter. The chocolate croissant is probably the best I've ever had - better than the ones I had in Paris. It's pillowy soft and insanely flakey and perfect amount of sweetness. Finally, I came all the way from California visit St. Louis again. On of my list for this short trip is to visit Nathaniel Reid bakery because I heard so much of them. I was not disappointed at all. They are super busy even on a Wednesday. We had turkey and cheese croissants and bacon and cheese quiche. Both are delicious! It's flaky and very fresh! Their staff is top notch and the bakery is super clean and organized. There's so many goodies in their showcases and we bought so many items.... Will eat it for the next few days. Btw, I noticed there are so many awards on the wall, all over the bakery... so impressive! I wish they had something like this in Orange County/California. I had so been looking forward to coming here as I have heard wonderful things. When we got there I was a bit surprised because it is in a location that I have probably driven by a million times a d. Ever noticed, it is that unassuming. However when you get in the bakery. Your senses are assaulted by the delicious smells and beautiful sight of well displayed goodies. The lady who waited on us was extremely friendly and helpful. I was there to get brownies for my birthday dinner that evening and they had just enough. While these are delicious, they only have one kind of brownie and unfortunately they are very cakey, not the delicious fudged brownies that I love but taste wise they were fresh, chocolatey and very good. I also got the Jamon, which as a pistachio and raspberry lover was perfect. It was not overly sweet like some pasteries and not huge. It was the perfect amount. I was very sorry that ai had already had breakfast because their quiche and croissants looked divine! The Guyana is for anyone who loves chocolate! Rich and decadent chocolate moouse, chocolate creme brulee and a hazelnut croquant. There's a reason they are well known and highly praised. The products don't only deliver with flavor, they are works of art! I picked up a panna cotta, Ruby, and an orange almond cake. Everything was incredible. The panna cotta was the perfect texture and sweetness, I'm not sure if I made it out of the parking lot before finishing it. The orange almond cake was so moist, it's also gluten free! My family and I are still talking about The Ruby, not only was it almost too beautiful to eat but the mix of textures and perfectly balanced flavors blew us away. I can't wait for my next visit to try more creations! The Caia cake is SO special, I think it's perfect for any occasion. It is a delectable symphony of flavor and texture--delicate flavors of raspberry and white chocolate I believe, with an amazing shiny, sticky icing on top that is an ideal thickness. It's small for $45 but dense, so serving regular sized pieces isn't necessary. It's my favorite cake there. And there is a reason that the Kouign-amanns ("queen a-MONs") get cleaned out every day. They are a dreamy cross between the best croissant you've ever had and an almondy bear claw. I took my husband here for his bday breakfast; we arrived just before 9 am and beat a 10 or so person lineup that appeared shortly after us. It was our first visit based on an enthusiastic reco from a foodie friend. It lived up to the hype. Lots of pretty items in their display case made decision making tough. We came to Nathaniel Reed upon the recommendations of so many people. It seems that everyone that we talk to said that this bakery is a must try in St. Louis. When we arrived, we were delighted to find a cute little store with very nice staff. We ended up choosing the kouign amann and the chocolate almond croissant. Both pastries were pretty good. They were definitely in the upper tier for bakeries in St. Louis, but likely only above average when compared to the other major food cities in the United States. The kouign amann I tried was genuinely enjoyable. Its layers were nicely buttery and had a good crispiness on the outside, while maintaining a soft inside. The caramelized sweetness wasn't overwhelming, making it a pleasant treat without being overly rich. The chocolate almond croissant was also decent (although not as good as the kouign amann). The croissant itself was flaky, and chocolate and almond flavors were more subtle than I expected (not in your face). The mix of textures--crispy layers, gooey chocolate, and that almond crunch--hit the spot. Not too sweet, just the right amount of indulgence. Overall, not bad! Our friends got the savory sandwiches, and they thought that was good as well too. 4/5 stars! read more

The line was out the door, but moved quickly. Some customers were dining in the small counter space, others grabbing sandwiches, pastries and orders for cakes and desserts. This wasn't my first time to enjoy Nathaniel Reid's and I knew what I wanted. I resisted the fancy pastries, WILLPOWER....!!!, and ordered the baguettes I had come for. And, of course, I had to order a chocolate croissant along with a prosciutto sandwich. I would have ordered a cappuccino, but to be honest I felt bad with so many waiting in line. It only took me minutes to get in my car before I had to take a bite of that incredible croissant. I felt like I was in Europe tasting an airy, buttery and decadent delight. I LOVE their chocolate almond croissant. It is so flaky and buttery, has the perfect amount of chocolate and a delicious almond filling. We came on a Friday and on Fridays they have their Croque Monsieur breakfast sandwich so we had to try it. It was delicious - thick ham with the perfect level of saltiness and a really nice béchamel sauce. They offer to heat it there but we opted to wait until we got home. The staff is always really friendly and even though they almost always have a line they do a great job of keeping it moving.
