A cute little place right next to Big Sky Cafe. Their menu offers both traditional beignets and savory beignet bites. I had to be different and go for the savory option - "Italian" w/c is Black pepper and green onion beignets topped with Italian cheese & a side of Marina sauce for dipping. The beignet bites reminded me of a fancier version of a pretzel bite only with that soft and lighter texture compared to a pretzel. Glad to also see them offering GF options for those with gluten allergies/ gluten intolerance. The vertical banner with the business name outside along with the Open light up sign were the two things outside that directed me to the entrance door to check out this place. Totally obsessed. This is such a great addition to Webster Groves. They have great options, including a gluten friendly beignet! Although it wouldn't be safe for someone with Celiac as they current share a fryer, I heard the owner is working on incorporating a separate station for the gluten friendly beignets to be prepared and fried. Although my gf beignets did not puff up as much as they hoped, they were still delicious and offered to remake them for me. The gluten friendly beignets were a tad smaller than the regular ones and more expensive, but since this is quite common in the gf world, I did not mind at all! I'm always on the lookout for places in the Lou that serve these heavenly hot pillowy powdered puffs, and was very excited to try this new (to me) find. To say I was pleasantly surprised would be sorely understated. The place is very small but has a spritely ambience. The service is friendly and fun. The beignets are sold in packs of three, so I ordered one traditional and two with apple. The proprietor kindly, and without prompting, put the apple and whipped cream (!!) in separate containers so as to preserve the firmness of the beignets. I was so pleased with his commitment to staving off a soggy experience upon arriving home! I poured myself a molten dark cup of chicory coffee, adding a couple dips of the vanilla sweet cream, swizzled briefly, and headed out the door. I live around 10 minutes from the shop and both the beignets and coffee made it home just as hot as they'd been when the journey commenced. The accompaniment of the Apple compote and whipped cream was a perfect way to start the day. I saved the traditional beignet for later, and it heated up nicely. My sweet topping of apple cinnamon was delicious - pro tip, stuff a piece of glazed apple inside the beignet after you bite into it. We also got savory beignets - same great beignets, but with a savory topping, duh. The sausage gravy option was very good. This is a natural fit to replace biscuits with beignets for a breakfast food - plus they made a tasty sausage gravy. The marinara & parmesan choice was pretty good for what it was, but it's an odd mix that doesn't really seem natural. Regardless, the place is pretty great. I used to LOVE this place, like easy 5 stars it was always a treat, I used to come here probably two times a week last year when the husband and wife were working. I came back for the first time in a few months SO excited to try them again, and I got the strawberries and cream every single time.
