Great Harvest Bread Company is amazing. Located in historic Downtown Kirkwood, this is a great cafe to enjoy a full-fledged meal, or simply pick up a couple of pastries. GHB knocks Panera out of the park! I personally love their BLT, and their sugar cookies are great as well. Their bread on their sandwiches are excellent, so I might have to pick up a loaf next time! Finally, their staff has always been friendly and attentive anytime we've visited.

I have heard such great things about this place, so I decided to stop in for a sweet treat on a Saturday afternoon while I was in the area! I was immediately greeted by the fantastic aroma of bread and baked goods. As you enter, there's a big shelf full of packaged soup mixes and cookie mixes available for purchase. I think they'd make such great gifts! I ended up getting a chocolate chip cookie to snack on later. It was the perfect treat! The kind employee who helped me with my cookie purchase asked if I had ever tried their bread. When I said no, he offered me some samples. I tried their cinnamon bread and cheddar bread. Both were incredible. The cinnamon bread tasted like dessert, and I will definitely be back to purchase a loaf. The cheddar bread was just as delicious, and I was blown away by the softness and freshness. The bread practically melts in your mouth! I would love to go back for lunch sometime to try their soup.

This is a delightful store with delicious loaves of bread, rolls, and a small selection of soups, granola, sandwiches and coffee. You can sit at one of the bistro tables inside or outside to enjoy your purchases. They offer samples of their wonderful white or seeded wheat bread, which helped when it came time for me to decide which bread to bring home. The girl behind the counter was both helpful and sweet. There was parking available right outside the front door, but there was a couple of steps to get in.

Stopped by this bakery while waiting to board the Amtrak. It's conveniently located across the street. It smelt delicious the moment I walked in. They have a variety of made to order breakfast items and a few grab-n-go. I opted for the powerbar and not disappointed one bit. If you're looking for a friendly face and a decent size granola bar made with whole grains, you've come to the right place. It's healthy and taste so good!

i stopped in at 1, to this bakery today and was so pleasantly impressed. the space is organized, very clean, and had lots of seating. to go items were professionally wrapped and labeled. fresh bread was displayed on a lovely rack. there is a menu of breakfast and lunch items- the sandwiches are reasonably priced and sound very tasty! there was one person working the counter and another there to make sandwiches. what a pleasant, neighborhood, spot!

Cinnamon swirl loaf. Deeelicious and buttery

I ordered online and did curbside pickup and it was super convenient. The cinnamon swirl bread was huge, fluffy, sweet, and delicious for days after I picked it up. I sliced and toasted it for an amazing breakfast. And post-dinner snack. And before-bed dessert. I also picked up a turkey bacon club avocado sandwich (8.95). It had lots of turkey which I appreciated, but next time I'll try adding mayo or mustard to make it a little less dry. It doesn't come with any sides. The pastries are probably what will bring me back for another visit. The take-home cinnamon rolls look very enticing!

Love that I get a sample every time we go! The bread is delicious! I always get my staple cinnamon chip bread. That's my favorite. Still need to try lunch but I'm loving all the bread. I got garlic cheddar bread and mocha biscotti to try and will update once I've tasted. Everyone is always nice when we go in too. Trust me, try the bread! I bake bread for my family all the time but I will still go get their bread too!

Okay I see Great Harvest already has high marks on yelp, but I still feel the need to share my experience here today. I needed some afternoon coffee and the nearby coffee shop was closed, so I came here on a whim. I felt welcomed immediately with offers of bread samples. They have such a large selection of breads, scones, cookies, and also banana breads and biscotti were available. I was in heaven. The cashier who helped me was so sweet, patient, and considerate. The service was truly excellent. I didn't feel like I walked into a bakery business, i felt like I walked into grandma's kitchen. I can see this place get busy on a weekend morning but for a week day afternoon, business is steady and still have plenty of seats.

Stopped in here to get a breakfast sandwich before waiting for my Amtrak to get here. This place is perfectly located in downtown Kirkwood with many surrounding shops to check out. You get the immediately yeast smell when you walk in and know fresh bread is being made. They make their bread fresh daily. The cashier wasn't very pleasant but everyone else was very nice I ordered the classic sandwich which unfortunately wasn't impressive. It's small, the bread was greasy which ruined the fresh bread I was washer for. Not sure if they added butter or if it was from the eggs and bacon. Personally, I think you are better off ordering the bread and making your own sandwich at home.

I also love that this space aims to provide front/ back of house skills for adults with intellectual disabilities. We went in the afternoon, so a lot of bakery items were sold out (good sign). They had full size gooey butter cakes and pre wrapped items ready to, so definitely keeping that in mind. They also had their famous smile cookies (I've been eating them since I was a kid). They have a full ice cream bar in here (had no idea) which is great to add to the sweet treat line up. My coffee was great (iced latte) and the service was also good. Parking can be tricky in downtown Kirkwood (if you know you know) but we scored a lucky spot on the street right outside. Check it out!

And I don't remember what I had, lol! I liked it and I'll return to update this review if I remember what it was. A few of the employees -- people perhaps in their early 20s who did not appear to take their jobs as seriously as the cashier -- were engaged in a private conversation behind the counter. The cashier and customers had to wait a moment to get their attention about a menu item that had been discontinued, though the online menu we found had not been updated. We had a group of 8 people. We sat upstairs. I wasn't all over the setup of the space. Perhaps half of the seating is upstairs and the stairs have a bend/turn. The person bussing lost control of the tray. From what I could see, in her attempt to regain control of the tray, she fell and broke something or some glass cut her and she was bleeding quite a lot before she left for treatment. I think smaller trays may be in order, or a dumbwaiter, or perhaps an employee with better upper body control could do this task. Between that and a comment said by one of the waitstaff that I prefer not to repeat, I am hoping I caught them on an "off" day. We need more businesses like this one. The food was good, too, so I will return.

The woman running the window was friendly and peppy for so early in the morning! There was a couple eating at one of the tables and a couple of other people waiting. The neighborhood is lively, with cars on the street, people walking with kids, strollers, and dogs. Nice to see so much activity. One of the staff brought out food for the couple at the next table and chatted with them, telling them she was the newish manager. Next up came my order, and the same manager walked up to my table put down the bag, turned around and walked away. It was pretty off-putting her not saying a word, no smile, no thanks for stopping by. Ok. Three stars for the staff at the window and the food. Zero stars for the manager and her hospitality skills.

We opted to walk the block or two to Spencer's Grill for a late breakfast. It's a classic diner setup; bright, cozy, open grill space and the staff were absolutely delightful. We bellied up to the bar and ordered; their sweet potato hash was such a comfort food drizzled with a little syrup; their hand smashed sausage patties were absolutely flavorful and I love that you can add fixin's to your eggs. Adding some sautéed onions to my scrambled eggs was the cherry on top! My husband ordered their BLT; bright, crisp lettuce, fresh tomatoes and crunchy wholesome bread with a side of hashbrowns which remained piping hot throughout the entire meal. We had been looking for a good diner experience for a while and Spencer's did not disappoint.
